A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 13
Luo Panzhi had never felt such a chill surge up from the soles of his feet. He couldn’t even clearly define his emotions, knowing only that when he heard that sentence, a mad thought surfaced in his mind.
He wanted to kill the person who had touched Gu Yuxi.
That person had harmed Gu Yuxi, leading to secondary differentiation out of pain and despair, a defense mechanism that turned him from an Omega into an Alpha—it was a means of self-preservation.
“Your lover’s primary gender was Beta, and his post-injection observation report showed a pheromone concentration above 70%. You are an Omega; you should understand what that concentration means, shouldn’t you?” Gu Yuxi fixed his gaze on the Omega in front of him. Seeing her complexion shift from astonishment to pallor to fear, he was essentially certain that this Omega knew about the matter.
She knew her Beta lover had undergone secondary differentiation into an Omega.
But whether she knew before or after the injection remained unknown.
“Can I trust the Galaxy Group?” The Omega was silent for a few seconds, leaning her back against the door. She looked at the two men, her eyes moist, and spoke very softly. “Can I?”
Gu Yuxi subconsciously glanced at Luo Panzhi.
Then, he felt the hand braced behind Luo Panzhi’s waist get clasped back. He lowered his eyes, his gaze falling on the hand holding his wrist. The coldness etched on his deeply furrowed brow seemed touched, melting and fading away.
Luo Panzhi’s side vision was focused on Gu Yuxi’s face, taking in every subtle shift in the man’s expression. He tapped Gu Yuxi’s wrist with his fingertip, then gripped the cool hand tightly, looking at the Omega with a calm, composed smile:
“Of course you can. Trust me.”
A ripple spread across Gu Yuxi’s eyes.
The Alpha in front of him finished with a rising inflection. The conviction and confidence in his tone were absolutely unquestionable, hitting Gu Yuxi’s heart with a resonant impact.
It made one spontaneously believe that Luo Panzhi was trustworthy.
Based on the fact that Luo Panzhi didn’t touch him when he was having his episode.
Based on the fact that he used a quilt as a barrier when he embraced him to soothe him.
Based on the fact that this Alpha’s pheromones were what he craved.
“Come in and talk. I’m afraid they might have people watching me,” the Omega said softly, leaning on the doorknob. She glanced at the apartment across the hall and quickly withdrew her gaze.
Luo Panzhi and Gu Yuxi exchanged glances simultaneously.
This matter was indeed not simple.
The apartment was large, decorated in a hotel-like style. The furniture and decor looked very new, every area lacking a sense of being lived in, as if they had only recently moved in.
“I know the Galaxy Group has the power to contend with them, but until Little President Luo personally came to find me, I couldn’t concede even an inch. This autopsy must be conducted by the Galaxy Group itself. That is also why I refused to sign the consent form but chose to have my lover’s body preserved in cold storage.” The Omega’s expression changed immediately after closing the door. She was no longer the pitiful, weak woman from moments ago. She looked at Luo Panzhi:
“Otherwise, my fate will be the same as my lover’s.”
She then motioned for the two men to sit down and walked to the kitchen to pour water.
The two men sat on the sofa.
Taking advantage of the Omega’s absence in the kitchen, Luo Panzhi nudged Gu Yuxi with his thigh, leaned over, and whispered, “Have you guessed anything?”
Gu Yuxi had an idea, but decided it was best not to say it. He patted his pocket, indicating the phone was still recording, and gently shook his head, signaling to keep quiet.
Luo Panzhi understood, raised an eyebrow at him, and made a zipping motion across his lips with his hand.
Gu Yuxi’s lips subtly curved.
The Omega walked out of the kitchen with two glasses of water. She walked up to Gu Yuxi, bent over, and offered him a glass. “I didn’t ask, who is this gentleman?”
The white lace slip dress revealed skin that was brightly exposed, and as she leaned over, the whiteness was subtly visible. Gu Yuxi silently averted his gaze. Just as he reached for the glass in the Omega’s hand, another hand was quicker than his.
“He’s my lawyer, Gu Yuxi,” Luo Panzhi said coldly, taking the water glass. “Whether we win the lawsuit depends on him.”
“So it’s Lawyer Gu.” The Omega adjusted the slip strap that had fallen from her shoulder, sat back on the sofa, crossed her legs, and placed her hands on her knees. “My Beta and I were supposed to get married in a month, but he died before the wedding. The aphrodisiac injection required prior hospitalization for a physical exam, followed by a sensitivity test. Everything was normal initially; his physical quality had always been excellent, with no allergic reactions. But on the second afternoon, in the hospital room, he was assaulted by a psychiatric patient.”
Luo Panzhi frowned. The management of Rui Xing Hospital was seriously lacking.
“The top floor of Rui Xing Hospital is the VIP ward. This psychiatric patient is the son of Rui Xing Hospital’s largest shareholder. How could an ordinary person like me fight against such capitalists? After that happened, my lover’s condition became extremely poor. He suffered a violent rejection of the aphrodisiac. The reason was that during the assault, the intense pain stimulated secondary differentiation. The doctor said he differentiated into an Omega to relieve his own pain. However, the pseudo-Alpha pheromones in the aphrodisiac only had a 20% compatibility with the Omega pheromones he differentiated into.”
“I know exactly how he died, and I witnessed it myself.”
“As you can see, this apartment is where I’m being monitored. They’re afraid I’ll reveal the truth and are coercing me to pin my lover’s death on the Galaxy Group’s aphrodisiac, or else they won’t let me go.”
Luo Panzhi largely understood the nature of the conspiracy. It was yet another market struggle between the Galaxy Group and rival capitalists. The Galaxy Group’s scientific achievements over the decades were truly brilliant, making them stand out in technology.
That was one aspect.
Another aspect was still full of doubts, such as why this woman hadn’t let him in when he came alone, but opened the door when Gu Yuxi arrived, and was overly attentive to Gu Yuxi.
And she asked if she could trust the Galaxy Group. If her lover hadn’t just passed away, he would have suspected she was making a move on his lawyer, Gu Yuxi.
He still couldn’t fully trust the Omega’s side of the story, at least not until the autopsy results were in.
Luo Panzhi leaned back on the sofa, crossed his legs, and looked directly at the Omega. “Don’t worry. As long as you agree to the autopsy, you will receive protection from the Galaxy Group starting now.”
The Omega nodded. She then looked at Gu Yuxi, her eyes flashing. “Lawyer Gu, their forensic reports are also faked. Can you truly win this lawsuit?”
Gu Yuxi met the Omega’s unusual gaze, his face cold and composed. He nodded. “Yes.”
Why was she looking at him like that?
Did they know each other?
Luo Panzhi was confused as to why the Omega kept staring at Gu Yuxi. When he heard her question, he gave a cold laugh. “Don’t worry. Lawyer Gu is a professional at fighting fakes. He’s previously gone up against the forensics institution, provided you are telling the truth.”
With that, he took out his phone, stood up, and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, beginning to give instructions to his subordinates.
This Omega was extremely important and had to be kept within his controllable range. As for the shareholders behind Rui Xing Hospital and that psychiatric son, he needed to investigate who dared to commit such atrocities and toy with human lives right under the nose of the law.
And they dared to frame the Galaxy Group?
And delusionally thought they could take the aphrodisiac formula from him?
They probably thought he was undeserving of his father’s position and honor, but did these people with dirty motives really deserve to challenge him?
The moment Luo Panzhi stood up, Gu Yuxi saw the Omega staring intently at him. He knew she had been watching him throughout the conversation, but why with that look?
It was as if she recognized him.
“Lawyer Gu, if I may be so bold, were you ever at the Feng Fei Orphanage?”
A look of confusion crossed Gu Yuxi’s face. “Who are you?”
“I’m Song Yinling. Do you remember me? The little girl who helped you open the door.”
Gu Yuxi certainly remembered that name. If the girl hadn’t helped him smash open the locked warehouse door back then, he might have lost control and killed that scumbag.
“I remember you were clearly an Omega. So you became an Alpha because of that?”
Gu Yuxi gave a silent nod, confirming it.
The Omega chuckled softly, her tone difficult to read. “Your incident caused a huge commotion at the orphanage back then. Until the orphanage was acquired by the Galaxy Group and you were taken away by people from the Galaxy Research Institute, we all heard stories about you. It seems you’re doing very well now, becoming an invincible lawyer.”
“But do you know? The person who caused your secondary differentiation back then… he killed my lover.”
“Mo Wenbin. He’s appeared again.”
Gu Yuxi’s face turned instantly pale. The nausea surging from his stomach intertwined with the buzzing in his head. The image of that green shirt flashed in his mind again, like a lingering nightmare.
—I just love pretty Omegas like you. Let me bite you once. Gently. It won’t hurt, I promise.
—It’s fine. No one can see us here.
The Omega saw Gu Yuxi’s reaction, clearly recalling the past. “I don’t want to rub salt in your wounds. I just want to ask you to help me, help my deceased lover. In doing so, you’ll also be getting justice for yourself. That lunatic, he’s the one who should die.”
“If you are willing to help me, I will testify in court.”
Gu Yuxi hadn’t expected to hear that name after so many years, nor did he expect that after all this time, the man had become a ‘psychiatric patient.’
Back then, he was an orphan, helpless and alone in the orphanage. Bullied, enduring the resistance and disgust, he gritted his teeth and differentiated into an Alpha. If he hadn’t, he likely would have been sexually assaulted long ago.
Now, that beast had reappeared.
After finishing his instructions, Luo Panzhi walked back and sat on the sofa. He subtly noticed the atmosphere between the two had become somewhat tense, and his expression darkened further because of it.
“Miss Song, is this your residence?” Gu Yuxi asked again.
The Omega shook her head. “No.” She then pushed the already prepared autopsy consent form toward Luo Panzhi. “Little President Luo, Lawyer Gu, I’m counting on you.”
Finally, she gave Gu Yuxi a long, deep look.
Luo Panzhi: “?” Why all the eye contact?
With the autopsy consent form secured, the two men left.
Luo Panzhi naturally arranged for people nearby to protect the Omega’s safety. She was the most crucial witness. Even though many details remained unclear, she absolutely had to be protected.
Downstairs, the two walked in silence for a stretch.
Luo Panzhi’s heart felt heavy, knowing that this issue with Gu Yuxi far outweighed the issue of him having a boyfriend.
They stopped in front of their respective cars.
Luo Panzhi opened his car door.
“The psychiatric patient Miss Song mentioned is the person who caused my secondary differentiation at the orphanage back then.”
Luo Panzhi’s hand gripped the car door, and his face instantly darkened. He turned his head to look at Gu Yuxi by his car, his eyes black like an abyss:
“What?”
“I differentiated into an Alpha during the struggle, so he didn’t succeed,” Gu Yuxi looked at Luo Panzhi. “Back then, I was weak, powerless, and had no parents, so the matter was simply dropped.”
They stood across the cars, gazing at each other, their understanding of the coming battle unspoken.
Luo Panzhi braced his hand on the car roof, looking at Gu Yuxi across the way. He smiled, hooking his lips. “Lawyer Gu, you promised me, didn’t you? With you here, I will win. I trust you.”
He would not let go of anyone who dared to challenge the Galaxy Group, and he certainly wouldn’t let go of anyone who had harmed Gu Yuxi.
Putting everything else aside, he admired Gu Yuxi. He trusted his gut feeling.
Gu Yuxi’s gaze fell on the slightly wild, mischievous smile on the other man’s lips. Beneath the suit and tie, the mix of righteousness and roguish charm seemed to mesmerize him, making it impossible to look away.
Why was that?
