A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 12
Gu Yuxi calmly withdrew his hand, then rubbed his fingertips to remove the wetness of the sweat. He turned sideways to examine the Yi Xing Mansion in front of him. This apartment building was close to the city center, connecting to the business district, and though it was a single building, it was quite expensive.
It seemed that the Beta’s family background was decent, or perhaps the Omega’s was. After all, owning an apartment like this at the age of twenty was 70% likely due to family wealth.
And there must be someone supporting them behind the scenes.
Otherwise, how could a mere private hospital make the Galaxy Group somewhat passive in this lawsuit?
“The price of an apartment here isn’t cheap. One unit probably costs four or five million.”
Luo Panzhi saw him suddenly bring up the price and watched him survey the surroundings. “What’s four or five million? Do you like it?”
Gu Yuxi glanced at his young boss, listening to the breezy “what’s four or five million?” Sure enough, he was a young master who lived a sheltered life and didn’t know the suffering of the common people. He smiled.
“Four or five million is a concept that ordinary people might never be able to touch in a lifetime. What use is liking it? For ordinary people, it’s just a concept.”
Just as his ability to gain Luo Panzhi’s favor was also like a concept.
Luo Panzhi opened his mouth, then closed it the moment his rationality returned, narrowly stopping himself from saying, “I can gift you a few units if you like.” If he had said that, it would not only make him look petty but also insult Gu Yuxi.
Wait, Gu Yuxi was the one insulting him, wasn’t he?!
Why was he thinking for the other man here?
“Heh, well, Lawyer Gu, work hard for me. You’ll have your day of success.” Luo Panzhi raised his hand and patted Gu Yuxi on the chest.
“Then I’ll go find this family member. Perhaps I’ll have common ground with him and can persuade him.” Gu Yuxi’s gaze brushed over Luo Panzhi’s hand touching him, and he withdrew his eyes subtly, then stepped into the mansion.
He shouldn’t be so unrestrained.
How would he manage the fallout later?
Luo Panzhi quickly followed. “Where does your confidence come from that you can persuade her? I, Little President Luo of the Galaxy Group, just got the door slammed in my face. She listened to me and then slammed the door shut again, saying she wouldn’t talk.”
“I have experienced secondary differentiation,” Gu Yuxi said, pressing the elevator button and watching the downward-moving arrow. “Perhaps I can use this to ask the Omega if she knew her partner had secondary differentiation. Did the secondary differentiation occur after the aphrodisiac injection, or did he know he had already differentiated and still went for the injection?”
“Which of those two is more serious?”
Gu Yuxi saw the elevator doors open. He held the door and gestured for Luo Panzhi to enter first. “The secondary differentiation occurring after the injection is more serious. If rejection occurs during the differentiation process, though it won’t cause immediate death, the rejection reaction will be accompanied by organ failure, leading to death within 42 hours.”
Luo Panzhi stepped into the elevator. He turned to Gu Yuxi, his brows furrowed. “I haven’t heard of such a case. I only learned about the concept of secondary differentiation from you. So, what causes secondary differentiation?”
The Omega lived on the 23rd floor. They still had several floors to go.
Gu Yuxi stared silently at the rising floor numbers. The changing green digits were reflected in his eyes. The color seemed to remind him of that person’s clothes and that sickening gaze.
The hand hanging at his side subtly clenched, his thin lips were pressed tight, and his jawline was tense.
The brief silence made Luo Panzhi sense something was wrong. He looked at Gu Yuxi, noticing the man seemed unwell and inadvertently glimpsing the slight tremor in his fingertips and the palpable displeasure radiating from him.
“What’s wrong? Are you uncomfortable?”
Luo Panzhi’s voice brought Gu Yuxi instantly back to reality. Just then, the elevator doors opened. He lowered his gaze to conceal his earlier unease and whispered, “We’re here.”
He went to hold the elevator door.
But Luo Panzhi moved faster, placing his hand on the door, then looked at him with a bewildered expression.
“You don’t need to hold the elevator for me when we’re in private. Let’s go out.” Luo Panzhi looked at Gu Yuxi’s surprised look, tilting his chin slightly and gesturing outward. “Come out.”
The words ‘in private’ fell like a small stone into a calm pond, sending soft ripples through Gu Yuxi’s heart.
Gu Yuxi was somewhat surprised that Luo Panzhi would do that. Although this was a minor detail, and common in superior-subordinate relationships, Luo Panzhi’s action subtly touched him.
He not only loved this Alpha’s pheromones but also his personality.
They walked to the apartment where the Omega lived. Just as Luo Panzhi was about to ring the doorbell, his hand was grasped by Gu Yuxi.
Luo Panzhi stared blankly at Gu Yuxi holding his hand. Suddenly, his heart began to pound.
“Although she’s not the primary party, let’s turn on the phone recorder just in case.” Gu Yuxi put down the hand Luo Panzhi was about to use to ring the bell and looked at him. “Because we are two Alphas coming to see this Omega, it’s a bit sensitive.”
Luo Panzhi raised an eyebrow at his caution and experience. “You’ve thought of everything.”
“I’ve learned the hard way,” Gu Yuxi said with an unconcerned smile. He started the phone recording before pressing the doorbell.
But the words ‘learned the hard way’ left a heavy mark in Luo Panzhi’s mind. Learned the hard way? Someone had bullied Gu Yuxi?!
Who would dare?!
The doorbell rang for a while with no answer. Gu Yuxi persistently kept pressing. He had to handle this. He was confident that with an autopsy, everything would be revealed, and the Galaxy Group could not be burdened with this crime.
Just as he was about to keep ringing, his hand was clasped by Luo Panzhi.
“Forget it.” Luo Panzhi held Gu Yuxi’s hand and pulled it away. “It’s destined that I won’t take over the Galaxy Group so smoothly. This burden is destined to make me endure thousands of difficulties.”
Gu Yuxi let Luo Panzhi hold him, secretly thrilled by the physical contact, which made him feel very comfortable. But he didn’t want to see Luo Panzhi looking so dejected; this person shouldn’t be like this.
He should be spirited and unrestrainedly arrogant.
“I told you, with me here, this lawsuit will be won.” Gu Yuxi intertwined his fingers with Luo Panzhi’s, then placed their clasped hands over his own heart, patting it. He gazed at Luo Panzhi. “Trust me. I won’t let you lose.”
The warmth of their intertwined fingers, the force of the pat on his chest, and Gu Yuxi’s confident smile that met Luo Panzhi’s eyes.
His heart suddenly raced.
He was not normal.
The two stared at each other for several seconds.
Luo Panzhi snapped back to reality. What was this terrible, intertwined-fingers situation?!
He immediately snatched his hand back and folded his arms over his chest, looking at Gu Yuxi defensively. “I think you really are shameless. You have a boyfriend, yet you’re always trying everything to take advantage of me. What, do you think I fit your ideal type so perfectly that you can’t help yourself? How can you face your boyfriend?”
He, the CEO of the Galaxy Group, would absolutely not be a homewrecker.
Gu Yuxi clenched the hand that was left empty, as if yearning for the lingering warmth. He should wait until he had figured things out before speaking.
“My apologies.”
Luo Panzhi saw the man lower his gaze and offer that apology again. He was instantly speechless with anger. If the matter at hand wasn’t so urgent, he would genuinely grab the man’s shirt and demand to know what the hell he was doing.
Suddenly, the door in front of them opened. A small, delicate-looking female Omega in a white lace nightgown stood holding the doorknob, her eyes red and full of resentment as she glared at them, as if they were murderers.
And these two “murderers” had just been arguing in front of her door.
Luo Panzhi & Gu Yuxi: “…”
The atmosphere instantly became awkward.
“Hello, I am Gu Yuxi, a lawyer from the Galaxy Group. We are here today to discuss your partner—”
“Don’t come looking for me again! What is there to talk about? My partner is dead, killed by your Galaxy Group’s aphrodisiac!” The Omega, who had clearly been crying, had a slightly hoarse voice. Her emotional agitation made her look fragile and weak, and she swayed precariously against the door frame, as if about to faint.
Out of gentlemanly reflex, Gu Yuxi swiftly reached out to steady her.
“Be careful.”
The Omega who was supported stiffened for a moment. She looked at Gu Yuxi in astonishment, as if she had discovered something incredible. Perhaps due to her physical weakness, she immediately leaned into Gu Yuxi’s embrace.
She truly looked fragile and helpless.
Gu Yuxi reflexively held his hands up near his ears, not daring to hug the Omega who had collapsed onto his chest. He subconsciously glanced at Luo Panzhi beside him, his expression one of utter, caught-off-guard innocence.
Luo Panzhi’s face instantly turned grim.
Heh, annoying.
“Miss Song, we know you are heartbroken over your partner’s accidental passing, but don’t you want to know the real reason why?”
Luo Panzhi stepped forward and helped steady the Omega, standing subtly in front of Gu Yuxi. “The Galaxy Group’s aphrodisiac has been fully developed over the past twenty years and has undergone countless clinical trials. It is 99.99% safe before being released for use. The 0.01% risk is virtually non-existent.”
The Omega was clearly angered by this statement. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she forcefully shoved Luo Panzhi. “What do you mean! Are you trying to use that 0.01% to shirk responsibility?! My partner’s death was his own fault, is that it! You killed my partner!! You are the main culprit!”
Luo Panzhi stumbled back two steps, his brows furrowed, then felt a strong hand brace his lower back.
Gu Yuxi stood behind Luo Panzhi, his chest close to Luo Panzhi’s arm, his hand supporting Luo Panzhi’s waist to steady him. His expression was no longer gentle; his eyes were tinged with coldness, perhaps because the Omega had pushed Luo Panzhi.
“Miss Song, I’d like to ask you, do you know about secondary differentiation?”
The moment he spoke, Gu Yuxi caught the Omega’s darting eyes. “Miss Song, was your partner already undergoing secondary differentiation before the aphrodisiac injection, or did it occur during the injection? You know, don’t you?”
The Omega’s face instantly went white. She stared at Gu Yuxi in shock, her eyes flickering, as if she recognized someone. If she hadn’t misidentified him…
“Then I also want to ask: did your partner know about the genetic defect problem causing secondary differentiation, and did he know what could prompt secondary differentiation to occur?”
Luo Panzhi’s arm was against one side of Gu Yuxi’s chest. When Gu Yuxi said this, he felt Gu Yuxi’s body tense up, and he frowned slightly.
He had asked this question in the elevator just now, so why hadn’t Gu Yuxi answered—
“Secondary differentiation is a recessive genetic defect. When the primary gender experiences immense harm and suffering, the strong psychological stress response will prompt secondary differentiation to occur. This is a self-protection mechanism, and only one situation can cause such intense suffering to trigger it.”
Gu Yuxi paused, then adjusted himself, looking at the Omega calmly.
“That is sexual assault.”
Luo Panzhi’s confusion screeched to a halt. This sentence was like a huge rock smashing heavily onto his head, making him dizzy and sending a chill up his spine. He violently turned his head to look at Gu Yuxi.
…What?
