A Fatal Attraction from Lawyer A - Chapter 11
Gu Yuxi thought Luo Panzhi would return after the meeting, but in the end, he only saw the assistant, Xu Wen, come back.
When Xu Wen saw that Gu Yuxi’s complexion was better and that he was wearing Little President Luo’s suit, he silently affirmed his earlier guess. “Lawyer Gu, are you feeling better? You fainting earlier really scared Little President Luo.”
“I’m better, thank you for your concern.” Gu Yuxi hesitated for a moment and asked, “Did Little President Luo not come up?”
“Little President Luo said he had something to go out for. Does Lawyer Gu need to consult with him about anything?”
Gu Yuxi knew he couldn’t say that he wanted to consult Luo Panzhi about personal matters. “I missed this morning’s meeting. The content was…”
Xu Wen immediately understood and quickly gave Gu Yuxi a summary of last week’s work and this week’s schedule, then handed the documents to Gu Yuxi.
“Rui Xing Hospital has submitted all valid reports for the deceased during his time in the hospital to the court. Following forensic examination, the reports have been verified, and the lawsuit against Galaxy Group for wrongful death due to abnormal components in the BO aphrodisiac has been established.”
Gu Yuxi took the documents from Xu Wen. This was the same hospitalization report of the deceased he had looked at before. He flipped to the aphrodisiac sensitivity test data and found that one data point still showed a pheromone concentration of 75.23%, and the other 75.32%.
Yet, no one had raised any objection to this crucial, significant change in pheromone concentration. Even if many hospitals hadn’t encountered the concept of secondary differentiation, it was an extremely rare genetic defect and occurred under specific conditions. So far, Gu Yuxi was the first known case, but people shouldn’t be so insensitive to this data.
When a Beta injects a BO aphrodisiac and differentiates into a pseudo-Alpha pheromone, the pheromone concentration should absolutely not reach the level of an Omega pheromone concentration.
This only suggested that Rui Xing Hospital had issues.
And the forensics institution also had issues.
The Galaxy Group was a big target. Gu Yuxi had handled several such cases over the years, but this one was trickier because it involved a death, leaving the group in a passive position.
“Have the deceased’s family agreed to an autopsy report?” Gu Yuxi asked.
The autopsy was now the most critical piece of evidence. Even though a week had passed, if the body had been properly preserved under freezing conditions, it would still be possible to detect the deceased’s secondary differentiation.
He thought that the concept of secondary differentiation might finally become public knowledge through this case.
And it was essential that everyone know about the genetic defect problem associated with secondary differentiation. If such a genetic defect wasn’t discovered in time, cases of accidental death due to the BO aphrodisiac would continue to happen.
“No, the deceased’s family is still unwilling to have an autopsy.”
“And they agreed to cold storage preservation?” Gu Yuxi found it somewhat ridiculous. He didn’t understand what they were still trying to gain at this point, but he didn’t need to understand. He knew he would win this lawsuit. “Can you give me the contact information for the deceased’s partner? I’ll go speak with the family as a lawyer. I might be able to get helpful information.”
Xu Wen paused for a second. “Lawyer Gu, you’re going to see the deceased’s family too?”
“Too?” Gu Yuxi caught the word.
Xu Wen realized he had likely let something slip.
Gu Yuxi smiled knowingly. “Alright, I understand. I’ll go see him. Assistant Xu, please send the contact information to my phone. Thank you for your hard work.” With that, he turned and left.
It was the first time Xu Wen had seen Gu Yuxi smile. His mind went blank, and he didn’t even know what he was saying. “Oh, okay. I’ll send it right away.”
Only after saying it did he realize: Oops! Little President Luo told him not to reveal where he was going, but Gu Yuxi’s smile made him instantly fail.
He was finished.
As Gu Yuxi went downstairs, he felt the subtle glances of his colleagues lingering on him. Unlike usual, these glances carried an air of scrutiny today, but he had no time to worry about what they were scrutinizing, as he had more important things to do.
He took out his phone and called Luo Panzhi.
The call was answered, unexpectedly, in less than three seconds.
“You’re awake?”
Luo Panzhi’s lukewarm voice came through the phone.
“Yes. Thank you, Little President Luo. I apologize for my offense earlier,” Gu Yuxi said, then took his car keys, walking from the group’s revolving doors toward the parking lot. “Where are you now? I’ll come find you.”
Then he heard Luo Panzhi’s trademark cold laugh. “Offense? Lawyer Gu calls the kissing and hugging from earlier an offense? That was assault. I could sue you.”
Gu Yuxi’s lips subtly curved down. He unlocked his car, opened the door, leaned in to sit in the driver’s seat, then placed his phone on the car mount and turned on the speaker. His hands went to the steering wheel, ready to drive away from the group. “I was wrong. Little President Luo, you can do whatever you want to me, just don’t be angry.”
“Heh. You say that easily.” Luo Panzhi on the other end seemed to hear the car door close. “Are you driving?”
“Yes. Where are you? I’m coming to find you. Assistant Xu said you went to talk to the deceased’s family about the autopsy. I thought that if I went, I might be able to persuade him.”
“What will you use to persuade him? Your poor complexion? Or your sickly sweet pheromones? Go back.”
Gu Yuxi steered the car out of the parking lot. Luo Panzhi’s irritated but awkwardly concerned words echoed in the car. He thought that any other Alpha probably would have punched him by now, let alone a privileged, high-and-mighty Alpha who wouldn’t tolerate his repeated closeness.
He wasn’t sure if his BO aphrodisiac containing Luo Panzhi’s pheromones was affecting Luo Panzhi’s feelings toward him. Unexpectedly, Luo Panzhi had no repulsion toward his pheromones and was even getting closer step by step.
He originally thought this behavior was one-sided—that only he, having had the injection, would like Luo Panzhi’s pheromones so much.
But now, it seemed Luo Panzhi was also being affected by him. Because his Alpha pheromone was actually not pleasant at all; even President Luo found it uncomfortable. Back then, when the scent blocker failed to suppress his pheromones, he nearly injured someone.
Only Luo Panzhi had ever said his pheromones were fragrant.
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Am I wrong? Are you angry?”
Gu Yuxi smiled, watching the traffic outside and maintaining a safe distance. “No. Little President Luo is right.”
“Why are you laughing? I’m speaking to you seriously. You’re not needed here. Go back.”
Gu Yuxi could almost picture his young boss on the other end of the phone: hands likely on his hips, an expression of slight impatience, yet saying stubborn, awkward words that were actually full of concern. Why was this person so contradictory?
He was more short-tempered than Gu Yuxi expected and extremely principled, but when he got angry, he was especially cute.
It made it impossible for Gu Yuxi to get angry at all.
“I’m fine now, really. I feel very comfortable after you held me. No need to worry.”
“Oh, ha! Who’s worried about you? I’m not worried about you at all.”
“Then I’m coming to find you.”
“Do you dare to come?”
The light turned red, and Gu Yuxi slowly stopped the car. Hearing Luo Panzhi’s threatening, forceful words, his lips subtly curled. “Little President Luo, you’re so fierce.”
“…Don’t use that tone with me. Be normal, like you usually are.”
“I’m almost there. Yi Xing Mansion, right?”
“Actually, it’s useless for you to come. I’ve already been turned away.”
Gu Yuxi could again imagine his young boss’s frustrated, storming look after being given the cold shoulder at someone’s front door. “So you really need me, don’t you?”
It surprised him that the CEO of the prestigious Galaxy Group would personally handle this matter. Although this Alpha was young, he was very responsible. Gu Yuxi recalled the first time he met Luo Panzhi at the research institute. Back then, his young boss might not have been ten years old, sitting quietly in President Chu’s office, reading profound biology books.
He would frown occasionally, exuding a cool wildness yet possessing a maturity that belied his age.
Now, Luo Panzhi was showing him a different side.
This was an Alpha with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment, and the same applied to him.
Therefore, he was willing to do everything he could to help Luo Panzhi. As long as Luo Panzhi needed him, he would stand by his side.
In fact, Luo Panzhi had indeed been given the cold shoulder at the person’s door and had been standing there for twenty minutes. He was currently holding his phone at the mansion’s entrance, his back to the bright sun, stubbornly talking to Gu Yuxi on the line.
“Even if you come, you might not be able to meet the family. That Omega seems quite unreasonable.”
Just as he finished speaking, Luo Panzhi heard the sound of a car engine behind him. He slowly turned around.
A moonlight-white sedan stopped in a parking spot not far away. The driver’s door opened, and an attention-grabbing long leg stepped out, followed by Gu Yuxi in a silver-gray suit, walking toward him.
The sunlight above was glaring and hot. The man’s skin was cold and pale, looking as if it might melt in the sun, which gave him an air of gentle, cool jade. Even his steps were elegant and refined.
But Luo Panzhi knew that while the man appeared to be a decent, respectable person on the surface, he was anything but underneath.
Gu Yuxi reached Luo Panzhi. Seeing that the younger man had been standing there for a while, a thin layer of sweat gathered on his forehead. Just as Gu Yuxi was about to speak, Luo Panzhi’s face darkened.
“Heh.” Luo Panzhi let out a cold laugh. Now he’s trying to seduce me just by getting out of a car.
His gaze fell on Gu Yuxi’s face, which seemed slightly better than before—thanks to him, no doubt. Then, he took in Gu Yuxi wearing his own suit, and an inexplicable satisfaction welled up in his heart. Hmm, it fits perfectly.
It fits him perfectly.
Pah, no! It fits his clothes perfectly.
Gu Yuxi didn’t know why Luo Panzhi was angry again. A flash of helplessness crossed his eyes. He used the back of his hand to wipe away the bead of sweat tracing down Luo Panzhi’s forehead. “Have you just been standing here? Aren’t you hot in the sun?”
Luo Panzhi reflexively grabbed Gu Yuxi’s hand, frowning with a grim expression. “What are you doing?”
“I saw you sweating and wanted to wipe it for you.”
Luo Panzhi angrily flung his hand away. “Even wiping sweat is so suggestive.”
Gu Yuxi: “?”
