A Delicate Beauty Holding a Villain’s Script - Chapter 5
An Alpha studying Pharmacology was an absolute novelty. The Omegas in the class couldn’t help but be curious, staring at Li Rangnian as if he were a rare exotic animal.
However, as their gazes swept over the Alpha’s face, even the Omegas, who were famously delicate and fragile, had to admit that his looks were off the charts. Calling him an Omega wouldn’t be an overstatement. His thick lashes fluttered like butterfly wings, his peach blossom eyes were shimmering with light, and his lips were full and crimson. He avoided their gaze, looking incredibly shy with a slight flush on his cheeks. He looked so soft.
Ahhh!
The Omegas exchanged smiles, their expressions resembling mothers looking at a precious child, grinning with excitement.
Li Rangnian pretended to bury himself in his textbook, wishing he could tuck his head in like an ostrich, his face burning. They’re… they’re too enthusiastic…
Shen Yiqing appeared to be listening to the lecture, but in reality, his entire attention was focused on the Alpha. Seeing the “predatory” gazes of the crowd, his movements as he flipped the page paused. He pursed his lips slightly, and his fingertips pinched the paper with sudden force.
Rrip! The paper tore.
“Student, you…”
Facing the professor’s inquiry, Shen Yiqing nodded calmly. “I apologize, Professor. My book was accidentally damaged. May I share with someone else?”
The professor naturally agreed. Under the watchful eyes of everyone, Shen Yiqing stood up and sat down right next to Li Rangnian.
“Wait, what’s with him?”
“Everyone else avoided sitting next to the Alpha, why did he just move over there…”
“So, calculating. I bet he’s approaching the Alpha on purpose. Is he that desperate?”
The classroom was filled with whispers. A group of Omegas huddled together, their words dripping with malice. Unlike the “obedient, cute, and innocent” image Alphas had of them, Omegas were actually quite calculating; they thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of being pursued by Alphas. They knew how to use pheromones to entice them and would intentionally navigate between multiple Alphas just to select the most outstanding one.
Since school had just started, the freshmen were all restless. Any Alpha with striking looks or a prominent family background was a prime target for their flirtations. After all, Omegas held a lower social status; aside from bearing children, they seemed to have no other perceived utility.
Li Rangnian peeked up and glanced sideways. Seeing that cold, unparalleled face, he felt an immediate sense of relief. Shen Yiqing must have come over to help me out…
Li Rangnian slowly straightened his back, pushed his textbook toward the side, and whispered, “Sit a little closer, we can look together.”
At this moment, Shen Yiqing automatically filtered out everything else, his ears only catching the phrase “sit a little closer.” He nodded reservedly and then unceremoniously moved a large step over. Now, they were practically shoulder-to-shoulder.
As Shen Yiqing tilted his head slightly, he saw the Alpha’s small, fair ear. Looking closely, there was a tiny black mole behind the ear. Constant warmth radiated from the youth, making Shen Yiqing feel a rare sense of restlessness. His gaze was now undisguisedly intense.
“What are you looking at me for?” Li Rangnian looked up, meeting that burning gaze. His ears instantly turned red.
Shen Yiqing’s expression remained calm, though the corner of his mouth hooked into a minute arc. “Am I disturbing you?”
“Well, not really…” Li Rangnian acted fidgety, his lashes trembling like a small animal’s.
Shen Yiqing’s heart itched; he only wanted to reach out and touch him, but the setting was inappropriate. He could only rub his fingers together restlessly
051 was bored. The little ball flopped onto Li Rangnian’s head, pressing his soft hair into a little nest.
(Host, do you have some kind of ‘Heartthrob’ aura on you?)
Li Rangnian kept his eyes on the book, sparing a sliver of attention to reply. “Hm? Why do you say that?”
(I just feel like regardless of whether they are main characters or side characters, everyone seems to really like you.)
The system was baffled. Wasn’t this the treatment usually reserved for a “Universal Beloved” protagonist?
“Ah, I don’t know what’s going on either,” Li Rangnian smiled softly, his eyes brimming with affection. “If I had to say, maybe it’s just my personal charm?”
“Besides, it’s not a bad thing. After all, my mission is to obstruct the protagonists’ relationship line.”
051’s chubby body pressed down as it found a better position to lie in. After thinking it over, it decided this made sense.
(True! That’s great, Host! I’m sure we’ll finish the mission in no time!)
So easy to coax. Li Rangnian turned his full attention to the textbook.
The biology of this world was entirely different from Earth, and the names were quite peculiar. There was a plant called the Milk Fruit, a tree-like plant with oval leaves that grew 1–2 meters tall. Its fruit was the size of a chicken egg and entirely milky white. The flesh was sweet and juicy; once juiced and processed, it became the most popular dairy product for babies on the market.
Then there was the Fire Tree, a shrub with needle-like leaves covered in flammable substances like phosphorus. If the surrounding temperature rose, the plant would spontaneously combust. The book noted that Fire Trees only existed on the distant asteroid B-1457, which had now become a famous Federation tourist attraction.
The animals were even more bizarre: Unicorns actually existed, alongside giant caterpillars and the tender-fleshed Four-Eyed Heaven Chicken… it was essentially a bootleg version of the Classic of Mountains and Seas.
The book included pictures, and though it was a paper book, it utilized high technology. Pressing and holding an image would immediately project it into the air, and swiping would reveal more data.
Li Rangnian had never taken a mission in a futuristic world before, so he found everything fascinating. He looked up with a focused expression, staring at the blue projection, his clear eyes reflecting the faint blue light.
Shen Yiqing also looked up, but he was simply watching the person beside him, silently carving the image of the youth’s serious face into his heart, stroke by stroke. His heart was pounding wildly. Shen Yiqing raised a hand to his chest; his features filled with an inexplicable joy.
This was the first time he had felt happiness from something other than mechs.
Shen Yiqing was born into a wealthy aristocratic family, but his childhood was not beautiful. His mother was the eldest daughter of the Shen family, a great beauty of an Omega built upon endless wealth and pampering. However, she had fallen for a poor Alpha from a remote planet. Facing opposition, she ignored her dignity and eloped with him.
In Shen Yiqing’s childhood memories, there were only dilapidated rooms, a family portrait on the wall, and a female Omega who held him in her arms while humming nursery rhymes. She was no longer delicate; her exquisite features showed the exhaustion of being battered by life, and she no longer wore jewelry.
At first, his father in name still loved her. But after years of wandering, the man changed. He became unpredictable and moody, developed a chronic drinking habit, and eventually became abusive.
Later, his mother died of illness. The man was sent to a Federation poorhouse after his legs were broken by debt collectors. Eventually, his mother’s family found him and brought him back to the Shens, where he became the Young Master of the family.
Except for his grandfather, everyone in the Shen family pitied him. That prestigious old man was never close to him; he would only look at him from a distance, his eyes hiding a sadness that the young Shen Yiqing couldn’t understand.
At age 16, Shen Yiqing differentiated into an Omega. Thinking of the late eldest daughter, the Shens tightened their control over him. Floral arrangement, dance, fashion design… Shen Yiqing was suffocating. He didn’t like these things; he wanted to be free like an Alpha.
By chance, he made contact with figures in the black market. Using money to trade, he entered a territory he had never seen before. From then on, he became a regular customer and opened a small shop there specifically to study mechs. Perhaps it was talent; he quickly mastered professional knowledge, began independent design, and soon made a name for himself.
Shen Yiqing never considered himself an Omega. Whenever his heat cycle arrived and he lay on the bed tortured by desire, he would crazily jab the gland on the back of his neck with a small knife, his hands covered in blood. He knew his fate was an arranged marriage, but he would never accept it. If he had to be an Alpha’s appendage, he would rather die.
Alphas were generally conceited, arrogant, and loved to fight, they were a source of social instability. But Li Rangnian was truly different. He had never seen an Alpha like this, so obedient and cute, like a doll. It sparked a sense of possessiveness in him.
Shen Yiqing stared at Li Rangnian’s profile, his eyes crinkling slightly with a look of absolute determination.
051 looked down at the Protagonist Shou, seeing his gaze shift back and forth, and simply wanted to laugh. The Host didn’t even need to do any seducing; the Protagonist Shou had practically come crawling over on his own.
But if this continued, was it even possible for the Protagonist Shou to fall for the Protagonist Gong later? 051 felt that the Protagonist Shou was the type of person where if the Host slapped him, he would smile and lick the Host’s hand.
At that image, 051 found it even funnier.
