- Chapter 20 - The Sickly Alpha Who Sows Discord (Part 20)
In the early morning hours, a shrill alarm awakened the sleeping planet. Immediately following, the automated defense systems opened fire; the dense sounds of bombardment were loud enough to deafen anyone’s eardrums.
A new wormhole had appeared in the sky opposite the jump point. From development to full formation, it took less than half an hour. The energy fluctuations it caused were so minimal that the monitoring system failed to detect it in time.
The protective shield rose automatically, shimmering with watery ripples as it enveloped the planet.
Countless combat ships took to the sky, as dense as a swarm of bees, rushing toward the vicinity of the wormhole. Endless ammunition and ion cannons were aimed at the rift, venting their fire to obstruct the emergence of the Xenomorphs.
“Mechas in position.”
Five massive transport ships slowly flew into the air. Their bottom hatches opened, and giant mechas leaped out, their shadows swiftly sweeping across the ground.
The engines on the mechas’ backs ignited automatically, high-speed blue flames jetting out. The immense thrust drove the mechas upward, flying toward the wormhole.
The crowds on the ground were as small as ants, screaming and fleeing in all directions as panic permeated every heart.
“Everyone, head to the space transfer station! Evacuate in an orderly fashion!” The soldiers maintaining order were nearly swept away by the surging crowd, shouting themselves hoarse.
Suddenly, it was as if someone had pressed the pause button; the world went still.
Everyone, without exception, looked up toward the sky.
A strange rhythm, possessing a magical quality, pierced through the atmosphere and was transmitted clearly to everyone’s ears.
From within the pitch-black wormhole, a giant circular head poked out. It was grayish-white, with layers of folds piled upon one another. In the center, a wide circular maw split open, filled with rows of teeth.
Countless prolegs wriggled, clutching the edges of the rift, surging in wave-like undulations to slowly transport the massive body out.
Beneath the grayish-white skin, a highly corrosive liquid flowed. One could also clearly see tentacles writhing restlessly around the prolegs like turbulent currents.
Not only that, but summoned by its voice, even more Xenomorphs large and small surged out like a tide, led by the first. They desperately needed food to ensure their reproduction.
Can this kind of monster… really be defeated? Everyone trembled silently, thinking in despair.
While performing his missions, Li Rangnian had always repeatedly emphasized that this was merely a world composed of data streams and that everything happening was fake. But when he witnessed this terrifying scene with his own eyes, his heart and soul shaken, he also unseasonably felt its reality.
He stood on a rooftop, his hair dancing wildly and his clothes fluttering, looking up to observe the war above the canopy of the sky.
“Sizzle… Boom!” A high-speed ion cannon round slammed into a Xenomorph’s mouth, piercing its body before it shattered into fragments! Following that, the combat ships poured out fire without mercy. In an instant, liquid splashed everywhere, and a foul-smelling rain began to fall from the sky.
However, the swarming Xenomorphs soon used their bodies to block the attacks, opening their bloody maws to swallow a combat ship whole. The moment it bit down, a “bang” echoed as a firework exploded inside it, igniting the Xenomorph’s body.
It felt the pain of being scorched, rolling in mid-air before falling straight down. It crashed onto the protective shield and slid off, dragging a wet trail behind it.
The mechas operated with more flexibility. One hand would grab a Xenomorph’s head while the other was raised to condense energy. In the next second a blinding blue beam of light, like a laser, would pierce the Xenomorph’s body. The charred areas were completely unable to heal.
The war lasted for five full days and nights. Countless remains fell; some were Xenomorphs, others were the wreckage of combat ships. At every moment, brilliant fireworks erupted in the sky. Every time one lit up, it represented the sacrifice of a squad.
A long, thin crack appeared on the surface of the protective shield. It could no longer withstand more weight and was liable to break at any moment.
The first batch of residents evacuated, then the second, the third… the last batch to evacuate was the Logistics Department. Li Rangnian pressed against the porthole, his eyes unblinking as he watched. In the distant sky, the remaining mechas faced the overwhelming enemy and continued to fight to the last moment until they were destroyed.
“Boom!” A massive mushroom cloud rose, and high heat instantly swept through the entire space. Death’s scythe swiftly harvested a batch of Xenomorphs.
“Don’t look, Little Li.” Bai Yan’s face carried a touch of faint compassion as he raised a hand to cover the beauty’s eyes. “War is just this cruel. For these soldiers to die in battle can be considered the fulfillment of their long-held wish.”
“The Federation will not mistreat any soldier who paid the price for world peace. Their names will be carved into the monument, shining in the eternal river of history, and their descendants will be treated with great favor because of it.”
It was also at this moment that Li Rangnian glimpsed a silver shadow flashing through the gaps of the fingers.
“!” He instinctively widened his eyes, pulling Bai Yan’s palm away to look into the distance.
In the sky, a mecha with a silver-white shell was moving at full power. Carrying an aura capable of overwhelming thousands of troops, it hacked its way out of the wormhole. Wherever it went, severed limbs and shattered remains flew.
Behind it, countless combat ships followed the bloody path it carved, firing madly. The dense sounds of bombardment were never-ending.
“It’s Brother Qin…” Li Rangnian recognized the mecha. The corners of his mouth turned up involuntarily, and he relaxed for a rare moment.
In the final moments of the battle, Tianjiao aimed a high-speed ion cannon at the wormhole. It was this heavy blow that caused the newly formed wormhole to collapse, slowly closing until it finally vanished.
But the mecha did not stop. Instead, it pushed through all obstacles, heading straight for the aircraft where Li Rangnian was located. Bai Yan instinctively wanted to pull him away, but stopped when the other shook his head slightly, watching quietly.
The distance grew closer and closer. The smooth-lined giant hovered in mid-air, its inorganic eyes fixed on the porthole, seemingly making eye contact with the person inside through the glass.
“Amazing.” Li Rangnian pressed one hand against the window, smiling brightly as he watched the mecha reach out a palm and carefully press it against the other side. Though this one touch completely obscured the entire porthole.
High-five.
After the war, ordinary residents were resettled on safer planets, while the Logistics Department returned once more to Planet B-1233 for cleanup. The staff of the Technical Department, in particular, were busy beyond belief, needing to repair the damaged protective shields and mechas while also redesigning a new generation of weapons.
With his back pressed against the hatch, the Alpha’s fingers slipped under the hem of his shirt. The ice-cold touch made the beauty shiver. Warm breath puffed against his ear: “Little Li, did you miss me?”
Just on the other side of the wall, colleagues were still discussing mecha repair matters, yet he was pinned here, his eyes reddening as he allowed the Alpha to behave wantonly.
Having not seen him for many days, Qin Yuan missed him terribly. He went straight to the point, his movements bold and expansive. He gripped the waist without mercy, completely ignoring the cries and pleas for mercy from the person beneath him.
Pushed to the limit, Li Rangnian threw his head back with a cry. In the next second, his gland was bitten. Like a prey caught by the neck, he instantly went silent, trembling and shaking uncontrollably, his face covered in tears.
Even his cries were suppressed and pitiful, as if he didn’t dare be heard, but this only served to spark the predator’s interest.
“Did you guys hear a sound?” From the opposite side, a strange inquiry faintly drifted over. Li Rangnian bit his lip tightly, not daring to breathe.
The Alpha didn’t care, continuing his own business while teasing him with interest, “Don’t hold back. Cry out. Let them see that the colleague they work with is like this in private, messing around with an Alpha…”
Li Rangnian sobbed, lifting a foot to kick him, but it was grabbed instantly.
Having cried for too long, the beauty began to feel dizzy. His arms hung down, no longer clinging to or scratching the other’s back, merely jolting with every movement.
The gland was forcibly filled with the Alpha’s overbearing scent, radiating a “ripe” signal from the inside out. Currently, he was as soft as a puddle of mud, only able to collapse in the Alpha’s arms, his eyes vacant and his pupils dilated.
Qin Yuan pressed against him and kissed him thoroughly, kissing away the tears on his face. He said with a light laugh, “After so many times, Little Li’s reaction is still so inexperienced?”
“…You…” Li Rangnian truly had no strength left; he couldn’t even manage to glare at him.
After the storm came the calm, shimmering like the surface of the sea. Qin Yuan held him, kissing him bit by bit, gently and without any particular intent.
His hand pinched the person beneath him, only to feel as though he were grasping a handful of bones. His tone immediately turned pained, “How did you lose so much weight? Not eating properly again? Did Bai Yan not look after you?”
Li Rangnian kept his eyes closed. His lips, bitten to a crimson red, were glistening with moisture. His eyelashes flickered as he finally recovered a bit of strength: “I’m not used to life here, and there’s a lot of work. Isn’t it normal to lose weight?”
“I really don’t know what the Li family was thinking, sending you here to suffer.” Alongside his worry, Qin Yuan was inevitably dissatisfied.
“Please~ Brother Qin. With my constitution, I can’t go to the battlefield; I can only do odd jobs in logistics,” Li Rangnian said with a smile. “Now you won’t even let me do odd jobs, so what else can I do?”
Qin Yuan wished he could slap his past self to death. He hurriedly explained, “Little Li, I didn’t mean it that way. I’m worried about you. I’m afraid I won’t be by your side when you encounter danger… the logistics area isn’t safe, just like this time. When I heard the news that a new wormhole had formed, I almost went crazy…”
“I’m afraid, Little Li. I’m afraid of you getting hurt in a place I can’t see.”
The Alpha buried his head in the crook of the beauty’s neck, his voice muffled, “Little Li is amazing in my heart, not useless at all.”
“Why are you as clingy as a dog, Brother Qin?” Li Rangnian didn’t care at all. He was naturally suited to “eating soft rice”; making him work hard was worse than killing him. “I know. Thank you, Brother Qin.”
“Then promise me you’ll eat and rest on time.” Qin Yuan looked up at him, his eyes pitch black like a deep vortex. “You can’t push yourself, and certainly can’t belittle yourself. Okay?”
Li Rangnian pursed his lips, revealing a smile with two cute little dimples faintly visible: “Mission guaranteed to be completed!”
“So good.” Qin Yuan pinched his small face, his heart filled with softness. He had also been researching Little Li’s constitutional issues. His partner had spent over half a month pondering the materials he provided, finally concluding: a congenital physiological disease that was untreatable.
“However, are you really not considering gender reassignment technology?” The scientific madman had winked at him with a feverish look. “He’s truly suitable to be a test subject. He could get pregnant with just an artificial implant! What a great invention this is; it could benefit so many Alphas!”
Qin Yuan had grabbed his collar and slammed him to the floor, leaning down to warn him viciously: “No one can hurt him. You’d better forget this idea; don’t even think about it in the future. Or else…”
“Fine, fine, fine. I won’t touch your precious darling.” The other man’s glasses had fallen to the floor, and he hurriedly raised both hands in surrender. “I was just talking. Don’t take it seriously.”
Seeing Qin Yuan about to leave, he scrambled up and shouted, “Hey! Don’t forget the Xenomorph samples you promised me!”
“I won’t.” Qin Yuan left the lab without looking back, leaving the man alone to complain while clutching his bruised arm, “Always so violent. No wonder no Omega likes him.”
He put on his glasses, walked over to the smart computer, and looked up at the rapidly scrolling data, pausing at a certain spot.
“Strange. The hematopoietic function of the cells is decreasing…”
