- Chapter 19 - The Sickly Alpha Who Sows Discord (Part 19)
Li Rangnian was nearly submerged in this sea of stars.
“System, is this how the world looks to you?” After a long time, he suddenly asked, his voice so soft it was almost inaudible.
051 replied immediately: [Yes, in our eyes, the world is the shape of the universe. Every small world is just an inconspicuous planet.]
Hearing the reply, Li Rangnian wasn’t surprised. He gave a faint nod. “I see.”
Coming back to his senses, he changed into his work uniform. The silver-white attire was tight and form-fitting, outlining his seductive physical lines. Similar to a denim design, it gripped his thighs a bit tightly; with every step, his hips swayed in a way that would make anyone’s gaze freeze.
With tightly pressed lips, his beautiful and exquisite small face wore a serious expression, his brows slightly furrowed, giving him an air of cold detachment.
Stepping out the door, Li Rangnian met up with several staff members, and together they took the lift down to the bottom of the hold.
Humans, as small as ants, walked across the floor, occasionally looking up at the mechas standing in silent standby.
“Damage at the joint interface of B-13!”
“B-54 response time is too slow!”
Several Betas scurried between the mechas, running until they were drenched in sweat. Li Rangnian piloted a small transport craft, ferrying repair tools back and forth, keeping busy the entire morning.
Once the work was finished, a colleague invited him to dine together. Li Rangnian shook his head with a smile and returned to his room to bathe.
The water cascaded down. He brushed his wet hair back from his forehead, revealing a face adorned with water droplets. His skin was translucent, and his eyes were brimming with a watery light.
Inside the bathroom, the rising steam obscured a well-proportioned and graceful body, which was only vaguely reflected on the mirror’s surface.
After a simple wash, Li Rangnian emerged wrapped in a bathrobe, bundled up tightly, revealing only his exquisite collarbones and a section of calf as white and smooth as jade.
He didn’t have much of an appetite, but adhering to healthy principles, he forced himself to eat a sandwich.
The second he managed to swallow it, his stomach churned violently. “Barf!!!” All the food he had just eaten was thrown back up.
His eyes instantly filled with physiological tears that threatened to fall. After vomiting, he continued to dry heave, feeling as though something was wriggling in his throat an itchy, disgusting sensation.
“Ugh…” His body shuddered as he couldn’t stop vomiting. Li Rangnian knelt on the floor, his arms propping up his weight weakly, his head hanging low, unable to lift it.
His vision went dark, everything before him becoming a blur. A roar filled his ears until he could barely hear anything, save for the piercing scream of 051 echoing through his eardrums:
[Aahhh!!! Host!! Xenomorph! It’s a Xenomorph!]
Once the discomfort subsided, Li Rangnian looked at the vomit through tear-blurred eyes. To his horror, it was thick, transparent mucus mixed with scattered fragments of tentacles that were still slightly curling.
Li Rangnian’s face went pale instantly. He took a step back, closed his eyes, and swallowed the disgusting sensation in his mouth.
“Don’t worry. I’m just infected; I’m not dead yet.”
[What do we do? What do we do? Host, how did you get infected?] 051 spun around in a panic. [Quick, let’s go to the healing pod!]
“You forgot Shen Yiqing is in symbiosis with the Xenomorph. I’ve done it with him so many times; there’s bound to be a moment of carelessness.” His lips were pale, yet he forced a smile to comfort the system. “It’s for the best. The protagonist Omega’s infection needs a plausible excuse. If I become the scapegoat, won’t it perfectly fulfill my character’s mission?”
From the moment he learned of Shen Yiqing’s physical mutation, he had been thinking about how to “whitewash” the protagonist Omega in a way the World Consciousness would accept.
Later, he had a sudden inspiration: if he were also infected, and then everyone believed he had intentionally sought revenge on the protagonist Omega, then his character arc could develop just like the original plot.
As for what would happen to the protagonist Omega once his special constitution was exposed, he hadn’t thought about it. In his subconscious, the protagonist is the darling of the World Consciousness; no matter what, they wouldn’t fall into a tragic end like a villain.
Li Rangnian pressed his abdomen. That nauseating feeling hadn’t yet vanished, so he chose to follow the system’s advice and lay down in the medical pod.
Anesthetic mist instantly filled the space, and the laser instruments initiated automatically. Li Rangnian closed his eyes dizzily, quietly awaiting the treatment results.
[Thank goodness, thank goodness. There are only residual fragments in the stomach; they haven’t entered the bloodstream yet. But it’s only a matter of time.] 051 found the scan results horrifying, but when it looked at its host’s face, it found him unexpectedly calm.
Once the Xenomorph’s regenerative cells entered the blood, they would immediately devour the body’s flesh, eroding it from the inside out until they completely controlled the shell.
Li Rangnian is a villain; the protagonist’s luck would not fall upon him.
Fortunately, there was the system. “Turn on the pain-blocking now,” Li Rangnian said. “And don’t let me die too hideously. Can you control the growth of the Xenomorph so it can’t enter my blood?”
“I don’t want to turn into a shriveled corpse when I die, nor do I want such an ugly monster occupying my body.”
[Okay, Host.] 051 felt heartbroken. [Sob sob sob, Host-dada, just hold on a bit longer. we can leave very soon.]
“Mwah, thank you, System.” Li Rangnian cupped the small light ball and gave it a kiss.
After four jumps across a million light-years, the freighter finally arrived in the logistics area half a month later.
Planet B-1233 was currently at sunset. The sun dipped below the horizon, the twilight red as blood, and the whistling wind carried a mournful cry.
This planet was only one jump point away from the front line. If the front fell, this would be the first place the Xenomorphs invaded.
Ripples surged across the protective shield surrounding the planet. Countless aircraft carrying wounded from the front line crossed through the jump point, flying toward the hospitals for emergency treatment.
Upon landing, the military immediately came to hand over duties. The two parties met in the reception hall, with Bai Yan representing the Bai family for combat discussions.
Li Rangnian was assigned as an adjutant, following by Bai Yan’s side with a small notebook, listening to their combat status and taking occasional notes.
Finally, the meeting ended. The military official personally escorted the group to their residence. Li Rangnian’s room was right next to Bai Yan’s.
“What’s wrong? Your complexion is so poor. Are you still feeling unwell?”
Long silver hair cascaded down his chest, the tips playfully brushing against Li Rangnian’s cheek. He was curled up in the Beta’s arms like a cat, his eyes closed contentedly under the other’s gentle massage, looking half-asleep.
Bai Yan’s embrace was very warm, with a faint, refreshing scent of lemon. His muscles were full and firm; it was incredibly comfortable to use him as a pillow.
A ‘Male-Mom’ is truly the best. Li Rangnian nuzzled the other’s fingertips, allowing the man to stroke his body without defense, filled with total trust.
The Beta’s fingers reached the back of his neck, lifting the collar to reach inside, rhythmically pressing around the gland.
“Mm… ah…” The person beneath his hands was already soft; under his touch, he began to tremble sensitively, letting out small moans.
A Beta cannot smell pheromones, but just by looking at the beauty’s reaction, he could already imagine how the concentration of pheromones must be overflowing.
Strawberry-scented, sweet and sour, soaked in juice; even his voice was cloyingly sweet.
Little Li still trusted him so much. Bai Yan let out a low sigh. His gaze moved away from the red, swollen gland that still bore teeth marks. While his expression appeared gentle, his eyes grew cold inch by inch.
Is this how Qin Yuan ‘takes good care’ of Little Li?
His fingers slid down the back, exploring deeper.
“I’m… not… un… comfortable…” Li Rangnian gripped the other’s hem tightly, answering in fragments as his eyes grew glazed. “Don’t touch… th-there…”
Betas do not have a rut; they are indifferent to pheromones, which are as plain to them as clear water.
But when he took pleasure in exploring certain things, the other party would find it very difficult. He wanted relief, yet was forced to accept the other’s malicious teasing over and over, while the Beta maintained a calm expression, admiring the beauty’s broken and wretched appearance.
After another round of torment, Li Rangnian was panting, collapsing in his arms without the strength to move a finger.
“Why is there so much, Little Li?” Bai Yan raised his wet palm, silver threads connecting his fingers. While he wiped them carefully, he said with a light laugh, “If you’re really craving it, don’t hold back. Come find me, okay?”
“…” Li Rangnian’s face was incredibly red. He buried himself in the other’s embrace, pretending not to hear, neither saying yes nor no.
From childhood to adulthood, Bai Yan had always played the role of a protector in Li Rangnian’s life. Now, this rose that he had pampered in the palm of his hand had been plucked by others first; naturally, he was angry.
But the anger eventually transformed into another thought: If others can, why can’t he?
He knew everything about Li Rangnian; he was someone worthy of trust and reliance.
And because of this, Li Rangnian didn’t feel angry at his offense only lost and dazed and then obediently accepted his actions.
To Li Rangnian, this was like friends playing around like comparing sizes in the restroom completely unrelated to desire.
Recovering himself, Li Rangnian suddenly discovered that in his muddle, he had unknowingly taken a lock of the other’s silver hair into his mouth. Feeling a bit guilty, he spit it out quietly; that lock was now soaking wet.
Bai Yan spoke to him in a soft, gentle voice about precautions: “It’s not safe lately. You must take guards when you go out; I’ll assign a few to you, okay?”
“Also, there are some places you can’t go. I’ve drawn a map; remember to take it with you.”
His words were measured perfectly. Li Rangnian didn’t feel restricted; instead, he very obediently followed his advice. “I know. Thank you, Bai Yan.”
The Beta smiled and ruffled his hair, then crooked his knuckle to lightly scratch his nose. “Little Li, you don’t need to say thank you to me.”
Bai Yan had come on behalf of the family to handle military funding, so he was busy with affairs. After squeezing out time to accompany Li Rangnian for a few days, he was forced to attend meetings daily and had no time to look after him.
Li Rangnian couldn’t sit still and applied to the higher-ups to serve as a temporary medical staff member to help care for the wounded. Once he received approval, he immediately went to the hospital. In just a few short days, he witnessed the cruelty of war.
Every one of these wounded had fought with their lives to escape the jaws of the Xenomorphs. Their faces and bodies were scarred by corrosion and blood, with some injuries so severe that white bone was visible. Some had limbs brutally bitten off. According to their accounts, there were too many Xenomorphs; their mechas were submerged by the tide, and they had watched their comrades being chewed and swallowed, blood splashing everywhere, leaving not even a corpse behind.
One day, after an aircraft arrived at the hospital and the hatch opened, what came out was not a human, but an infected larva that had eaten all the internal organs.
The soldiers immediately killed everyone inside the aircraft. The bodies were dragged to a specialized clearing area for centralized cremation, and even the aircraft was thoroughly processed.
The hospital had no days off; every day it was packed to capacity. The air was filled with the painful groans of the wounded. Li Rangnian was initially scared, but now he could change dressings without changing his expression.
Compared to the front line, his work was truly light, but he had no intention of slacking off. He only hoped that while he could still remain conscious, he could help as much as possible.
The pain-blocking effect was significant; Li Rangnian couldn’t feel the internal pain, but he could clearly sense his physical condition worsening.
Occasionally, while washing up, he would get a nosebleed, the droplets on the sink a shocking bright red. He had less and bottle appetite, feeling the urge to vomit at every turn and what came out was always sticky.
If it weren’t for the system’s intervention, his body would have long been eaten hollow by the Xenomorph. Fortunately, he still maintained a normal state, with only his stomach being affected. The battle between his stomach acid and the Xenomorph’s regenerative cells caused him to vomit uncontrollably every day.
Li Rangnian kept himself busy in this way until half a month later, when a wormhole formed near the planet and the Xenomorphs invaded the logistics area.
