- Chapter 81 - Your Mouth is Too Hard, It Pricks
“A toast to us?” The alcoholic fumes in Shen Sisi’s throat hadn’t even subsided before the second cup arrived.
Xu Hongying nodded with a smile, glancing inconspicuously at the wine cups on the table. “This second cup is to wish you a happy marriage, harmony, a quick arrival of a precious son, and to grow old together in domestic bliss…”
Without giving Sisi or Gu Chengfeng a chance to breathe, Xu Hongying clinked her cup against theirs. “I’ve downed mine, hurry up now.”
Perhaps the alcohol was going to her head; Sisi felt hot all over, as if she were about to catch fire, and her face was flushed bright red. This cup represented a blessing from an elder—she certainly couldn’t refuse.
Only… she didn’t know if Gu Chengfeng minded. After all, they were just a fake couple; the person he truly wanted to grow old with wasn’t her.
Sisi stole a glance at Gu Chengfeng. He remained expressionless but briskly raised his cup, waiting for her to clink hers against it. She finally grasped her cup. “Cheers!”
No one noticed that the hand Gu Chengfeng used to hold the cup was trembling slightly.
Sisi took a deep breath, intending to tilt her head back and finish the drink, when Xu Hongying’s voice suddenly rang in her ear: “Wait!”
Xu Hongying grabbed Sisi’s wrist with one hand and Gu Chengfeng’s arm with the other. With effortless strength, she intertwined their arms. Caught off guard, Sisi and Gu Chengfeng’s heads bumped together with a loud thud.
“Ssh… ow!”
Both groaned in pain, exhaling heavy breaths of alcohol. Looking at Gu Chengfeng at such close range, with the wine cup gleaming between them, Sisi instinctively averted her gaze.
Is this… a nuptial cup toast?
Gu Chengfeng was equally shocked. Then, secretly, he leaned closer toward the tip of Sisi’s nose. His gaze fell directly on her fair-yet-flushed skin and those delicate, dripping-red lips. His dark eyes were shimmering and burning, deeper and more dangerous than the night itself.
Sisi instinctively shrank her neck, feeling as if the man before her might swallow her whole at any moment.
Gu Chengfeng is drunk!
Her face was flushed to the limit. Wanting to end this quickly, she didn’t dare look into those predatory eyes again. She simply closed her eyes and swallowed the liquor in one gulp.
Gu Chengfeng, like a hunting beast, leaned his neck forward to catch the cup. With a slight tilt of his head, the spicy liquid slid down his throat. This cup left them both feeling restless. They had only registered their marriage and hadn’t held a banquet yet… this probably counted as their nuptial toast!
Now that she had drunk the nuptial cup with him, Sisi wouldn’t be able to run away. For the rest of his life, he would use all his strength to hold onto her, never, ever letting go.
After the second cup, Sisi started to feel the “buzz.” This liquor had to be at least 100-proof. For someone who didn’t usually drink, managing two cups was already impressive.
However, Xu Hongying had no intention of letting them off. After the second cup came the third. Very satisfied with the couple’s performance, she refilled the wine.
“Sisi, I’m toasting this cup to you alone.” As Xu Hongying spoke, tears actually welled up in her eyes. “Before, I was deceived by that Yang Qiuxia and thought you were some kind of vixen. I did many wrong things.”
“Not only did you not blame me, but you even stood up for me so righteously. Sisi, thank you!”
Xu Hongying wept as she spoke. She insisted on toasting Sisi individually to express her guilt. Since things had reached this point, Sisi felt it would be improper to refuse again.
Seeing her hesitate, Xu Hongying let out a wail: “You still won’t forgive me, right? I knew it…”
Xu Hongying’s temperament was like a thunderclap—she cried when she said she’d cry, and rained when she said it would rain. Sisi panicked, waving her hands in a fluster. “Mom, I didn’t…”
“You didn’t? Then drink! Everything I want to say is in the wine. As the saying goes: if the feelings are deep, finish it in one leap! If you won’t even touch the cup, you must hate me to death…”
Xu Hongying unleashed her full arsenal of “crying, making a scene, and threatening to hang herself.” Sisi looked at the cup with a troubled expression and steeled her heart.
“Stop crying, I’ll drink, okay?” Sisi really had no way to deal with the old lady. She raised the cup to her lips, but it was suddenly intercepted by a large hand.
“I’ll drink it for her!” Gu Chengfeng saw that she reached her limit; her apparent sobriety was just a front.
In her daze, Sisi felt the cup being snatched away. A rough, calloused hand lightly squeezed hers, but her memory became fuzzy after that. She only remembered that Gu Chengfeng seemed to drink a lot more. Xu Hongying really was his biological mother—she kept pouring cup after cup for him while incessantly piling leeks into their bowls.
Finally, when the food was gone and the bottle was empty, Xu Hongying “released” them.
Sisi stood up, intending to check on Niuniu, only to find that Niuniu had turned into two identical little cuties. Everything around her was doubling in her vision. She shook her head forcefully and tried to reach for a glass of water, but her feet felt like they were stepping on clouds. She stumbled and began to fall.
Gu Chengfeng was also somewhat drunk, but he remained conscious. Feeling the woman beside him go limp, he reacted with lightning speed. His long arm hooked around her waist, catching her.
Drunk after only two cups…
He sighed and placed her into the bedding, intending to get her some warm water. Just as he started to get up, a pair of slender little hands grabbed him. Before he could react, those arms wound around his neck.
Under his stunned gaze, a soft kiss landed on the corner of his mouth—and it was slightly off-target.
Thump-thump!
His heart beat so fast it felt like it would jump out of his throat. His eyes widened, paralyzed with shock. “Sisi, you…”
The softness and warmth from a moment ago hadn’t dissipated; they were branded onto his lips.
“Gu Chengfeng, you’re so good-looking…” Sisi’s eyes were misty. The man in front of her was truly handsome—the chiseled face, the arrogant jawline, and the face with sword-like brows and starry eyes was better looking than any movie star. “Do you know? You’re the best-looking man I’ve ever seen!”
“But your mouth… why is it so prickly? Does your mouth have thorns on it?” Sisi wondered aloud in her muddled state. Why does he have thorns on his mouth? Doesn’t it hurt?
Gu Chengfeng froze in place, not daring to move. Sisi is drunk!!!
“Shen Sisi, do you know what you’re doing?” he asked, trying to keep a cold face.
“I know. Kissing. It’s just… your mouth is too hard, it pricks!” Sisi pouted and muttered.
A dark glint flashed in Gu Chengfeng’s eyes. Shen Sisi, you’re the one who threw yourself into my arms… His Adam’s apple bobbed. “Oh, is that so?”
“Yeah…” Sisi reached out a finger and poked the corner of his mouth. The fine, emerging stubble pricked her finger. Then her hand wandered, poking elsewhere. “Strange, it doesn’t prick here.”
Before Gu Chengfeng could react, Sisi pouted her lips and kissed him again…
