A Bad-Hearted Doctor is Unbearably Beautiful - Chapter 7
The massive explosion, accompanied by smoke and fire, shook everyone on the street out of their sleep, yet it didn’t attract much attention. After all, everyone was setting off fireworks and firecrackers all night to celebrate the new year…
Song Laosan’s face was full of indignation, but when he heard that two people were killed, his pupils suddenly widened.
“What! Two people?” Song Laosan’s mouth fell open in shock, his face horrified, as if he had no idea this was the case.
“Don’t you dare pretend you don’t know!” Lu Xiao’s knee controlled Song Laosan, grinding his face firmly into the floor.
“He is a post-op patient!” Shen Zhao’s voice came from behind Lu Xiao. “Just handcuff him to the bed.”
You don’t get it, do you, you saintly doctor? Lu Xiao thought. You’re here again, acting all rational and objective.
With a stubborn expression that said, I won’t do it, what are you gonna do? he looked back at Shen Zhao, but was startled by the sharp look on Shen Zhao’s cold and reserved face.
A rabbit gone mad will bite, too, right?
When Lu Xiao dragged Song Laosan to the bed, the gauze on Song Laosan’s chest and abdomen was already soaked with blood from his wound. His lips were pale, and his eyes became dazed and unfocused.
After getting the man under control, Lu Xiao moved back two meters. Shen Zhao quickly connected another functioning monitor to Song Laosan’s body. As he leaned over to attach the ventilator, he heard Song Laosan mumble on the bed, “I really killed people?”
Song Laosan seemed to be scared witless. He stared blankly at the ceiling, wanting to bury his head deep in the pillow but unable to roll over.
The expression on Song Laosan’s face shifted from panic to fear to pain. Wang Deng and Lu Xiao stood by, a look of confusion on their faces.
What is going on?
Shen Zhao was fiddling with the machine next to him. The air was filled with the pungent smell of disinfectant and a hint of blood.
Song Laosan’s hands and feet were secured to the four corners of the bed with restraints. Lu Xiao glanced at the information Wang Deng had sent and prepared to interrogate him a few more times while he was still awake.
But Song Laosan’s eyes lit up. He writhed everywhere, trying to free himself from the restraints. With a hoarse, red-eyed shout, he yelled, “I’m not guilty! You have no right to detain me!”
“Let me go!”
Shen Zhao was the first to speak. “You say we have no right?”
“During the surgery last night, you used eight bags of plasma alone. Do you know what kind of blood you used?”
Shen Zhao’s surgical scalpel was somehow in his fingers again. Song Laosan watched as Shen Zhao pointed the tip of the knife at him.
“A full eight bags of ‘panda blood.’ Do you know how expensive that is?”
“And that machine you smashed? It cost over a hundred thousand.” Shen Zhao’s scalpel was pressed against Song Laosan’s now-tense throat. “And you still dare to threaten a hospital nurse… I see you like using a knife. Do you know which artery to cut for a slow, painful death?”
“Want me to teach you?” Shen Zhao smiled.
Song Laosan was so terrified by Shen Zhao’s sinister look that he lost control of his bladder. He could only beg for mercy.
“A man with no real skills, but a knack for causing trouble.” Shen Zhao’s gentle tone was laced with malice. “I’m not wrong, am I, Officer Lu?”
Lu Xiao: “???”
Is this guy insulting me indirectly? Why does he randomly brandish his surgical knife? Is he crazy?
Lu Xiao ignored Shen Zhao. Looking at his phone, he glanced at Song Laosan’s information and prepared to interrogate him while he was still awake. “I heard your mother has a serious illness. Which hospital is she being treated at? Do you want me to go and check on her for you?”
Song Laosan’s body immediately tensed up, his hands instinctively clenching, and his emotions fluctuated greatly.
“What do you mean by that!”
Lu Xiao remained silent.
Song Laosan was like a volcano erupting after a switch was flipped. “Don’t drag my family into this!”
“I just want the truth! Last night, you went to the Ren’ai Physical Examination Center. How long were you there, and what did you do? Why did you have a bomb? What were you trying to hide?” Lu Xiao put one hand on Song Laosan’s bed and stared at him intently.
The air became heavy.
Song Laosan turned his head away to look at the ceiling, his lips pressed tightly together, unwilling to say a single word.
Lu Xiao stood up straight, his arms crossed over his chest, looking down at him. “You’re being stubborn. Unfortunately for you, your Grandpa Lu doesn’t have time to play with you.”
He started to walk out. “Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to your mother. I’ll just tell her the fact that you killed two people.”
Song Laosan shouted, “Wait!”
Lu Xiao paused and turned around. “Is there anything else you want me to pass on?”
It took Song Laosan a long time to utter a sentence: “Believe it or not, I really didn’t kill anyone. I never knew there was anyone else in that building…”
Lu Xiao pulled up a chair and sat down in a relaxed, dominant manner, looking as if he were watching a show. “Is that so? Tell me about it.”
Song Laosan’s gaze shifted, and he stammered, “I was just short on money and wanted to steal some valuables to go home for the New Year… Who knew I’d get discovered by the security guard before I even started stealing.”
“You’re full of shit!” Lu Xiao said with a fake smile. “This big of a scene just to steal money? Tell me, who brings a bomb to steal things! You must have been afraid people wouldn’t notice, huh?”
“I advise you to be honest. What was your real purpose? Was it to kill people!”
Hearing the word “kill,” Song Laosan’s heart felt like a collapsing building, the sound of concrete, steel, and tiles smashing to the ground. His pupils constricted instantly, and his breathing became rapid.
“How could that be…” Song Laosan coughed a few more times.
“Do… Do you have any evidence that I killed them?”
“You’re really stubborn. Never mind.” Lu Xiao stood up, not giving Song Laosan a chance to change his mind, and kicked over the chair he had just been sitting in. “I’ll just go have a chat with your mother. That seems more reliable.”
“Don’t go!”
“I did go to the building, but I really just wanted to steal some valuables. Those two people you mentioned have nothing to do with me. How was I supposed to know there would be people in the building… How could there be…”
Lu Xiao’s expression grew grim.
Sweat beaded on Song Laosan’s forehead. “I don’t know… I really don’t know! How could I dare to kill someone… how could I… Let me go! All of you, let me go! You’re all trying to frame me, it’s a conspiracy!”
Lu Xiao narrowed his eyes, a theory forming in his mind. “You don’t know? The bomb exploded as soon as you got in the car. You’re telling me you didn’t detonate it?”
Song Laosan’s earlier shouts seemed to have used up all his strength. His voice was now as faint as a wisp of smoke. “Yes…”
“Why did you bring a bomb there?”
“…To… to escape… I, I don’t know!”
“Nonsense!”
“I’ll ask you one last time. Think carefully before you answer. Did you place that bomb?”
Song Laosan closed his eyes and slowly shook his head.
“Who is your accomplice! What about that scar-faced man who caused trouble at the hospital! Was he there to help you or to kill you?”
“…”
“What are you so afraid of!”
“…”
“What secret is hidden in that physical examination center! If you don’t tell me now, do you think they won’t come to silence you someday?” Lu Xiao slammed his hand on the table next to him, his voice echoing throughout the room.
