- A Bad-Hearted Doctor is Unbearably Beautiful
- Chapter 6 - I Really Want to Dismantle This Cop's Leg
Lu Xiao stared at the walls full of jars and bottles, his scalp tingling. His phone buzzed with a vibration. The caller ID read: Lackey No. 1 – Wang Deng.
“Brother, the suspect is awake! We found his name too. He’s called Song Laosan. I’ve sent his social information to your phone.” Wang Deng said, slurping some instant noodles as he spoke.
“I’ll be right there.”
Lu Xiao quickly hung up the phone. He noticed Wu Di watching him. “Ah, you stay here. The offices of the executives on the third floor haven’t been checked yet. Also, hurry up and get on their case about the surveillance footage. Call me as soon as you get it!”
As he spoke, he turned and limped out the door. Before leaving, he didn’t forget to give Wu Di a wink. “You can do it!”
Wu Di looked like he was on a mission, instantly full of energy, but then he suddenly remembered something. “Sir! I don’t have your number!”

Lu Xiao drove his very expensive, modified Ford Raptor, flooring the accelerator and kicking up firecracker wrappers on the road all the way to the parking lot.
The scattered items on the passenger seat slid and rolled onto the floor. Before the car even stopped, he pushed the door open.
A bandaged leg stepped out first, his left elbow propped on the car door. With his right hand, he strained to pull a bag with a rice ball, fried dough sticks, and soy milk he had bought that morning from under the passenger seat.
He pushed the car door shut with his rear, hoisted the plastic bag over his shoulder, and hummed a tune as he walked to a door.
“Come in,” Shen Zhao said after hearing the knock.
Lu Xiao’s face, a mix of roguish charm and righteousness, appeared at the door.
He pushed the door open, licked his lips, and looked at Shen Zhao, but didn’t know how to speak.
“Where did you get hurt again? Sit down,” Shen Zhao said, rolling his eyes as he prepared to write a medical record.
“Dr. Shen, what are you talking about? I heard that my suspect is… no, that he’s awake. I came specifically to thank you for your miraculous healing, Dr. Shen, you’re so amazing!” Lu Xiao said, clapping his hands for effect, and then reverently placed the bag of breakfast on Shen Zhao’s desk as if it were a treasure.
He said in a passive-aggressive voice: “You’ve worked so hard~~ You haven’t had breakfast yet, have you?~~”
Shen Zhao’s pupils contracted when he saw the crushed mess inside the plastic bag. He pursed his lips and took a deep breath. “The oil from the plastic bag is leaking. You’re pressing it onto my patient records!”
“Also, before you say that, why don’t you check the time? It’s so late. Why are you still eating fried dough sticks? No wonder you’re not thinking straight; I think you’ve had too many fried dough sticks.”
Lu Xiao had noticed Shen Zhao’s nearly compulsive cleanliness a long time ago, so he specifically bought this bag of breakfast as a “gift.”
Lu Xiao looked at Shen Zhao’s annoyed face and couldn’t help but feel smug.
Oh, you’re not all poker-faced and cold as ice anymore? Why are you losing your temper?
“I was mainly just too worried about you, Dr. Shen. That’s why I bought this as soon as I left home this morning, intending to bring it over. Who knew I’d get delayed by another case?” Lu Xiao said with a face full of fake smiles.
The sound of urgent running reached their ears.
“Brother Xiao, you’re here, that’s great!” Wang Deng slammed to a halt when he saw Lu Xiao. “Quick, come inside and have a look. Song Laosan is going crazy in the intensive care unit.”
Lu Xiao and Shen Zhao exchanged a look, and then took off running towards the intensive care unit.
“He’s got a lot of energy. Perfect. I have some questions for him.”
Intensive Care Unit
Before they even entered the room, they could hear the sound of things being smashed inside. Lu Xiao slammed the door open, causing it to swing violently. The moment he rushed into the room with a furious glare, he saw Song Laosan shaking an IV stand and smashing the large monitor by the bed.
The man who had been in emergency surgery just ten hours ago now wore a vicious smile, holding the sharp edge of the broken monitor against a nurse’s carotid artery.
“Stay back!” Song Laosan, his voice hoarse from the blast of the bomb, could only roar.
His body was trembling uncontrollably, and he even had a urinary catheter still in him that they hadn’t had time to remove. The veins on his arms looked like wriggling worms, and his forehead was slick with cold sweat from the pain.
Damn it! He’s using that trick again!
Lu Xiao gritted his back teeth, his fingers clenched into fists, ready to draw blood.
“Song Laosan!” Lu Xiao cursed loudly. “You worthless piece of trash! You’re a grown man. Can you do anything other than kidnap women to get away with it!”
Song Laosan’s eyes were wide and bulging, and the features on his face looked unnaturally distorted. “Shut up! Prepare a car and twenty thousand in cash for me immediately! I want it now!”
As he spoke, he pressed the shard of glass more firmly against the nurse’s neck. The nurse, terrified, started to cry hysterically.
“Dr. Shen, help me,” the nurse cried, her mouth open as she pleaded for help. Song Laosan steeled himself and used the edge of the glass to slice a wound on her tear-streaked face.
“If you want to live, shut up!” Song Laosan threatened viciously.
Lu Xiao had been watching for an opening. This Song Laosan really had some nerve to pull these little stunts in front of him!
As the two men faced off, Lu Xiao still hadn’t found an opportunity to attack, but he saw Shen Zhao walking forward with a seemingly friendly expression. He walked with his hands raised in a posture of surrender.
“Song Laosan, calm down. I’m your attending physician. You’re having a major splenic hemorrhage…”
Song Laosan’s expression froze for a moment. He warily lowered his head to look at his abdomen.
Before he could even register what was happening, Song Laosan came to his senses only to find himself tripped to the ground by Lu Xiao’s leg. Lu Xiao seized the opportunity to pin his hands behind his back and cuff them.
Lu Xiao raised his chin and said to Shen Zhao, “Thanks.”
“Did you think taking a hostage would help you get away?” Lu Xiao pressed the barrel of his pistol against Song Laosan’s jaw. “Looks like the shot I gave you yesterday wasn’t hard enough.”
“You’re lucky that shot didn’t pierce your lung, old man.” Lu Xiao said, moving the gun barrel down from his jaw. The cold, black muzzle, even through Song Laosan’s bandages, made him tremble all over.
“Start talking. Why did you go to the physical examination center last night! Why did you blow up the records room!” Lu Xiao roared almost directly into Song Laosan’s ear. “Do you know you killed two people last night!” As Lu Xiao spoke, the image of chasing Song Laosan last night flashed in his mind again.
Last night.
On New Year’s Eve, not many people were on duty. Lu Xiao didn’t feel like going home to deal with relatives, so he stayed at the station and scrounged for food.
After receiving the alarm call, Lu Xiao thought it was just a petty theft. He volunteered to go with one other person. Who knew that Song Laosan was so well-prepared and had a strong anti-surveillance instinct? He immediately spotted the police waiting at the door.
He tried to escape, finding an opportunity to hold a woman at knifepoint who had just finished working overtime in a nearby building. He got into a car in a hurry and sped off on the road.
Lu Xiao floored the gas pedal to chase him, but after only ten meters, the building behind him was rocked by a thunderous explosion!
