Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 44.2
She exchanged a look with Shen Jueshu. No wonder things had been oddly quiet lately. Turns out, the major players were too busy fighting each other to spare them any attention.
“How long do these battles usually last?” Sui Yu asked cautiously. After all, that strange man, “Male A,” seemed like he had already begun to make moves.
“Who can say for sure?” Uncle Li replied. “But in the short term, I don’t think either side will act too boldly. They’re watching each other too closely. One wrong move, and the other side will immediately strike to interfere.”
As he spoke, Uncle Li pulled out two wristbands and handed them over. “These bracelets will block their systems’ functions. Keep them on at all times.”
Sui Yu and Shen Jueshu exchanged a look. Sui Yu broke into a wide smile. They’d originally come here hoping to learn more about the mysterious man and to see if Uncle Li had any tools to help them avoid system tracking. They hadn’t even gotten around to asking before Uncle Li had already offered his help.
“Thank you, Uncle Li,” Sui Yu said sincerely. Shen Jueshu also nodded, her expression serious.
“If you really want to thank me, then focus on getting through this ordeal safely,” Uncle Li said, sighing once more.
“We absolutely want to get through it,” Sui Yu said firmly.
She, more than anyone, had no intention of returning to the original storyline. She had been brought into this world as the villainous, scummy Alpha—and now she had fallen for Shen Jueshu. How could she possibly go back?
Uncle Li smiled faintly, then stood up and left the room, giving them space.
After he left, the two of them looked down at the bracelets in their hands. Plain black, nothing special at first glance. They turned them over a few times but didn’t notice anything unusual.
“Doesn’t matter. Just wear it,” Sui Yu said, gently placing one of the bracelets on Shen Jueshu’s wrist. Against her fair, delicate skin, the black band unexpectedly looked elegant and refined.
“It looks good,” Sui Yu said softly.
Her wrist was so pale and delicate, the veins faintly visible beneath the thin skin, adding a fragile beauty to the sight.
Shen Jueshu’s lips curled into a gentle smile. She picked up the other bracelet and fastened it on Sui Yu’s wrist. Looking into her eyes, she said, “If we really do have a stretch of peaceful days ahead… let’s go on a trip together.”
Like a final celebration before the world ends—one last chance to savor the time they had.
“Huh? But it’s the end of the year… Aren’t there a ton of things to do?” Sui Yu asked nervously. She could afford to slow down her research, but for Shen Jueshu, work only got busier around this time.
Shen Jueshu held her hand and looked into her uncertain eyes. “I can hand things over to someone else for a while.”
She didn’t know what the future held for the two of them, but as long as they still had control over their lives, she wanted to spend that time with Sui Yu—making memories, cherishing every moment.
Hearing those words, Sui Yu felt a sting at the tip of her nose. She didn’t want to cry—especially not in front of Shen Jueshu, or she’d look weak again. She held it in, but her eyes reddened anyway, looking even more vulnerable than if she had actually cried.
Shen Jueshu leaned in and pulled her into a gentle hug. “What’s this? You’re already crying?”
All she said was that they’d go on a little trip, but Sui Yu looked like she’d just been handed something priceless—something she never thought she’d have.
Sui Yu buried her face into Shen Jueshu’s neck and mumbled, “I’m not crying. I’m an Alpha, remember?”
That made Shen Jueshu laugh out loud. “An Alpha for three months, maybe?”
Sui Yu: “…”
Was she seriously mocking how short she’d been an Alpha?
“You can’t underestimate me,” Sui Yu protested. “I’ll grow into a proper Alpha, just watch!”
Shen Jueshu chuckled softly and tightened her embrace around Sui Yu. “You’re already wonderful. You’re my favorite Alpha.”
Unlike most Alphas, who were often arrogant and domineering, Sui Yu’s gentleness made her even more appealing in Shen Jueshu’s eyes.
Hearing those words, Sui Yu’s lips curled into a quiet smile. It seemed all she needed to do was stay true to herself.
Without delay, the two got to work on their plans. Shen Jueshu went home and began rearranging her work. Just one day later, with everything sorted, the two boarded a flight headed south.
Their plan had been simple: the weather was getting colder, so why not head south to escape the winter chill?
But reality, as always, rarely aligned perfectly with expectation. When Shen Jueshu saw the person standing in front of her, her expression immediately turned cold.
“What are you doing here?” Her voice was like ice.
Ding Qisi looked at the elegant Omega before her, a trace of obsession hidden deep in her eyes. “I’m from this area. Something came up at home, so I took time off to return,” she explained.
Shen Jueshu studied the girl in front of her. Her features still carried youthful sharpness, not yet fully matured, but already hinted at the composed confidence of an Alpha in the making.
Sui Yu was off collecting their luggage at the time, so she wasn’t nearby.
“Are you here on vacation, President Shen?” Ding Qisi asked earnestly. “I know the area very well. I could show you around?”
Her hand, resting at her side, was nervously gripping the edge of her pants.
Shen Jueshu’s gaze remained frosty. She looked past Ding Qisi to where Sui Yu was approaching with their suitcases. Her expression softened slightly, but her tone remained just as cold and dismissive.
“No need. We’ll explore on our own.”
Without waiting for a reply, she walked briskly toward Sui Yu and gently wiped the sweat from her forehead, the result of rushing to meet her.
Sui Yu beamed at her, like a warm, golden retriever wagging its tail at its beloved person.
But the moment she caught sight of Ding Qisi standing behind Shen Jueshu, her smile faded. Her gaze turned cold, and she cast a dismissive glance at Ding Qisi before taking Shen Jueshu’s hand and leading her toward the exit.
Ding Qisi stood frozen, watching the two of them walk hand in hand. Her jaw clenched, the muscles in her face stiff with suppressed emotion. Her eyes brimmed with frustration and unwillingness.
That was supposed to be mine.
After leaving the airport, they arrived at their hotel. Sui Yu pulled back the curtains and looked out at the nearby lake. She opened the window slightly, letting in a cool breeze that helped ease the fatigue of travel.
Shen Jueshu walked up behind her and wrapped her arms around her waist, resting her chin on her shoulder. “Aren’t you cold?” she asked gently.
Sui Yu turned in her arms, facing her. She leaned down and placed a soft kiss at the corner of Shen Jueshu’s lips, then smiled. “Not cold. I can handle it.”
A faint smile tugged at Shen Jueshu’s lips. Her voice grew soft and lazy, carrying a teasing charm that made Sui Yu’s heart skip. “My Alpha is that confident in her constitution?”
“Ugh~” Sui Yu let out a tiny groan, flustered. Shen Jueshu’s “my Alpha” had made her chest heat up with happiness, but the follow-up jab at her physical endurance stung a little too.
Okay—yes, Shen Jueshu did have a stronger constitution.
So what?
Sui Yu’s expression fell a little.
Shen Jueshu kissed the center of her furrowed brow, stroking her hair gently like she was soothing a sulky puppy. “Go wash up and get some rest,” she said softly. “You must be tired.”
“Mm, okay,” Sui Yu nodded obediently. Before heading off, she stole one more kiss from Shen Jueshu’s lips and then, satisfied, grabbed her clothes and went into the bathroom.
Once she was alone, Shen Jueshu moved to the window and gazed at the wind-ruffled lake outside. Her expression remained tense and unreadable.
She wasn’t naïve enough to believe Ding Qisi’s explanation. What were the odds that they just happened to come here on vacation, and Ding Qisi just happened to be returning home—and that they’d meet at the airport?
That was far too convenient.
And there was something else—Ding Qisi had ties to that man from the Traverser Association. Why were they connected? What had that man said to her? What plot was he trying to change?
All of it tangled together like a net, weighing heavily on Shen Jueshu’s mind.
Maybe it wouldn’t have been so overwhelming if she hadn’t awakened—if she’d remained unaware.
But then the off-key singing from the bathroom reached her ears, and despite the chaos outside, she felt thankful.
Thankful that she had awakened.
Thankful she had discovered the truth.
And thankful she had chosen the person her heart truly wanted.
Still…
Her gaze on the lake darkened.
There was something she hadn’t told Sui Yu. Even though she had awakened, she hadn’t fully broken free of the plot’s influence. Otherwise, she wouldn’t keep having the same disturbing thought—wanting to lock Sui Yu away in a basement.
That desire wasn’t just born from her possessiveness—it was the plot trying to twist her. Filling her with violent, obsessive thoughts.
Even her feelings toward Ding Qisi were being distorted, nudged by the storyline to respond emotionally to her in ways she didn’t want.
But she hadn’t sensed any of that influence in Sui Yu.
Sui Yu had truly broken free.
Shen Jueshu remembered how, on the very first day Sui Yu arrived in this world, she’d undergone a pheromone replacement. Could that be what tricked the story’s logic? Made it believe Sui Yu was no longer “herself”?
And if so…
How could Shen Jueshu do the same?
She couldn’t bring someone else from another world to take her place, like the original character did. She didn’t have the power. And even if she did… what would happen to her? Would she disappear? Be erased?
Let someone else use her body to fall in love with Sui Yu?
