Did Scumbag A Get Divorced Today? - Chapter 44.1
“What are you looking at?” Shen Jueshu asked as she followed Sui Yu’s gaze. All she could see was the back of a man in a black trench coat. He looked thin and slightly hunched.
Why was Sui Yu staring at a man?
“Is that the person you said disappeared?” Shen Jueshu quickly connected the dots.
Sui Yu looked at her and nodded seriously. “Can you wait here for a moment? I want to go check it out, just for a bit—is that okay?”
“No way!” Shen Jueshu’s face darkened immediately. They didn’t even know how strong that man was, and if he really had some sort of system, there was no way she’d let Sui Yu take such a dangerous risk.
“Wife~” Sui Yu pleaded softly, her tone almost melting Shen Jueshu’s resolve. “I promise I’ll stay hidden and watch from a distance. He won’t even know I’m there!”
That single word—wife—nearly tore down the defenses Shen Jueshu had so carefully built. She gave Sui Yu a helpless look. “Why do you insist on following him yourself in a place full of surveillance cameras?”
As she spoke, she took out her phone and began tapping on it. Within moments, she pulled up a camera feed and leaned closer so Sui Yu could see it too.
Sui Yu moved in, her eyes widening as she saw the familiar figure on the screen…
She hadn’t expected Shen Jueshu to tap into the company’s surveillance system.
Noticing Sui Yu’s surprised expression, Shen Jueshu explained calmly, “Don’t worry. I checked earlier—there isn’t a single blind spot in the entire underground parking lot.”
In other words, the man had nowhere to hide.
Sui Yu gave her a silent thumbs-up. She hadn’t expected Shen Jueshu to think this far ahead.
The two fell into a quiet understanding and focused on the screen. They watched as the man walked to a corner and stood still, completely unfazed by the cameras around him.
Soon, another person entered the frame.
The moment they saw who it was, both Sui Yu and Shen Jueshu widened their eyes in shock.
It was Ding Qisi.
Why was she meeting with this man?
Their expressions grew serious. Shen Jueshu tapped a few buttons, and the phone began playing audio from the surveillance feed.
The sound of footsteps echoed loudly through the empty garage, picked up by the microphones and transmitted to them. They watched as Ding Qisi walked closer to the man, then obediently lowered her head like a child, allowing him to gently pat her head.
“How’s work going?” the man asked in a low, raspy voice.
“It’s going well,” Ding Qisi replied softly.
“Have you met anyone interesting?” he asked again.
This time, both women noticed the change in her expression. Ding Qisi’s face fell, and her voice dropped so low they could barely hear it.
“Yes. She’s really nice.”
“Hm?” The man seemed about to ask something else, but his eyes suddenly shifted to a red light blinking on one of the cameras.
In the next moment, Sui Yu and Shen Jueshu could no longer hear anything.
Sui Yu sat up straight, lowering her voice. “Did he figure out we were listening?”
Shen Jueshu shook her head, her eyes glued to the video feed, watching their mouths move. She could’ve sworn they were saying her name.
Was this meeting about her?
Her brows furrowed tightly.
What exactly was Ding Qisi’s role in all of this? Aside from being her official love interest in the novel—was there something more?
Although Sui Yu desperately wanted to know what they were talking about, that man’s reaction made it clear—any rash move now would be dangerous.
At that moment, Sui Yu was completely certain that the man had a system.
Otherwise, how could he block the microphone with just a glance?
They continued to watch the footage. Ding Qisi gradually transformed—from discouraged and downcast to bright-eyed and confident, as if something the man said reignited her spirit.
The two eventually parted. Ding Qisi quickly ran toward the elevator, while the man strolled back to his car. A few seconds later, the sound of an engine starting echoed through the garage, and the car drove away.
Then, suddenly, Shen Jueshu’s phone screen flickered black for a second before returning to normal.
She quickly tapped through the surveillance history and rewound to the time they had just watched. But to her shock, the man’s figure had vanished from the footage. Even Ding Qisi’s image had been erased.
Seeing this, Shen Jueshu finally understood the chill Sui Yu had once described.
Just this ability alone was terrifying. What other powers could he possibly have?
She turned and met Sui Yu’s gaze—both of their eyes filled with concern and unease.
“I’m starting to think… maybe he knew we were here from the beginning,” Sui Yu said quietly.
After all, in novels, systems often had exact knowledge of their target’s location.
Shen Jueshu’s expression turned serious. “Maybe it’s time we returned to the old house.”
Perhaps Uncle Li would know how to deal with this.
Sui Yu nodded. Neither of them got out of the car. They started it up and headed straight for the old family residence.
Back at the old house, they met Uncle Li again. This time, Sui Yu didn’t waste any time.
“Uncle Li, is there another group watching us? Do they have a system?”
The moment Uncle Li saw them, he could tell something had happened. When he heard Sui Yu’s question, his face shifted slightly.
“What did you say? You ran into someone with a system?”
Sui Yu nodded, her face tense.
Uncle Li’s expression grew dark. “This is becoming more serious than I thought.”
“Who are they? What do they want?” Shen Jueshu asked, her tone firm.
Uncle Li motioned for them to stay calm, then walked to the side. A glowing screen appeared in front of him, though they couldn’t see what was on it. About ten minutes later, he returned and sat down across from them, his face somber.
“If you’re certain they have a system, then they’re likely from the Traverser Association.”
“The Traverser Association?” the two asked in unison.
Shen Jueshu looked puzzled, but Sui Yu seemed to catch on. “Do you mean people who travel between different worlds to complete missions?”
Like in those quick-transmigration novels?
Uncle Li sighed. “Something like that. But unlike what you’re imagining, their goal isn’t just to complete missions. They travel to different worlds to rewrite the stories—to change the plots however they want.”
“What?!” Sui Yu’s voice rose sharply, her expression full of disbelief.
Uncle Li looked troubled. It was clear now that these traversers were likely enemies of his faction.
“A novel, once written, will always have readers dissatisfied with certain plotlines. So some of them joined forces and created a super AI brain capable of traveling through time and space. Each tasker is then equipped with a mini-system to help them ‘rewrite’ the story,” Uncle Li explained.
Sui Yu and Shen Jueshu: “…”
“Wouldn’t that throw the entire world into chaos?” Sui Yu frowned deeply. A plot maintenance bureau, a traverser association, and now Uncle Li with his mysterious background—if all these forces clashed, wouldn’t it just turn into a giant mess?
Uncle Li let out a soft sigh. “Exactly. That’s why it’s all becoming such a headache.”
“Then, isn’t there any authority to manage these organizations?” Shen Jueshu spoke up, her brows lightly furrowed. “Surely, people in the real world would sense something wrong. If the plot maintenance bureau exists to protect authors’ intentions, how could they stand by while traversers blatantly twist their stories?”
Could any author really stay silent while strangers rewrote the world they painstakingly created?
“Wife, not every author even realizes that their novel could become a real parallel world,” Sui Yu said softly.
Though she heard Sui Yu’s words, Shen Jueshu kept her eyes on Uncle Li. “Even if the author doesn’t know, someone must. And this kind of reckless time-space travel can’t possibly go unregulated. If there are violators, there should be enforcers.”
Uncle Li met her gaze, then gave a bitter smile. He looked toward Sui Yu, and for a brief moment, his expression softened with something like pity. He shook his head and said, “Be careful in the days to come.”
Sui Yu blinked. “???”
What was that supposed to mean? She already felt like she was being as careful as humanly possible!
She didn’t understand what Uncle Li meant, but Shen Jueshu seemed to sense something. She didn’t say anything out loud, but based on his reaction, she began to form a guess.
Uncle Li’s organization—very likely—was part of that managing force.
“But for now, you can rest a little easier,” Uncle Li continued. “If traversers have shown up, then you’ll have a bit of peace for the time being.”
“Huh? What do you mean?” Sui Yu asked quickly.
Uncle Li looked at her and sighed. “The Plot Maintenance Bureau is always trying to steer the storyline back on track, right? But their ideology directly clashes with the Traverser Association. The traversers want to rewrite the plot however they please. That means they’ll have to face off with the bureau before doing anything else—and that kind of fight requires their full attention. They probably won’t have time to bother with you right now.”
Sui Yu: “…”
