Your Boyfriend is Great! He's Mine Now - Chapter 16
The two exited the elevator one after the other. As Shen Xubai entered his passcode, he could feel Gu Linyuan watching him. He met the other man’s gaze calmly until the door shut completely.
Gu Linyuan stood there for a while, waiting until the voice-activated lights went out, before turning to unlock his own door.
He placed the pork rib porridge on the dining table, staring at it intently. Whenever he thought about the fact that Shen Xubai had bought this for him, he wanted to treasure it forever. But the moment he remembered that it was also proof of Shen Xubai’s rejection, he wanted to flip the table and throw it in the trash.
The two little voices in his head fought it out for three hundred rounds before finally reaching a truce. Gu Linyuan opened the bag, his brows drooping, and began to eat with a look of unhappiness.
If I eat the evidence, there won’t be any evidence left.
Halfway through the meal, he unlocked his phone, snapped a photo, and sent it out.
At the bar.
As the bartender wiped water droplets from the side of a glass, the jazz drumbeats surged. A liquor bottle happened to spin along with the rhythm. A group of young people huddled in a leather booth, staring unblinkingly at the bottle’s neck. A moment later, it stopped in front of a young man. The group began chattering excitedly about something, followed by a kissing scene; the onlookers jeered and cheered, while one girl bit her straw, frequently glancing at another young man.
That young man was laughing a pure, sweet smile with dimples that made him look like a well-behaved “goody two-shoes.”
But when that “goody two-shoes” drank, he was quite heroic. The moment he raised his arm, his shirt rode up, revealing a flash of fair, dazzlingly slender waist.
So, he not only has dimples, he also has waist dimples.
The sound of cheering was deafening; the scent of whiskey and perfume intertwined at the rims of the glasses.
Chen Yanzhi withdrew his gaze and looked at his WeChat.
[G-Crazy]: [Photo] [G-Crazy]: He bought this. He really does care about me.
In the photo was a portion of pork rib porridge and a bottle of Ba岁shan (Baisui Mountain) mineral water.
Chen Yanzhi typed back nonchalantly: Then you’re pretty impressive.
There was a moment of silence from the other side.
[G-Crazy]: He’s so hard to pursue.
Chen Yanzhi thought for a moment and gave earnest advice: You don’t have to pursue him.
[G-Crazy]: Then he won’t buy me porridge anymore. [Chen]: But you could make him drink porridge every day. [G-Crazy]: I’m a little tempted. [G-Crazy]: Xiao Yu called me an “illicit lover.” I need to make that title official. [Chen]: Sounds exciting.
“Hello.”
A crisp voice came from in front of him.
Chen Yanzhi tapped his phone screen to lock it, looked up, and said coldly, “Need something?”
The man had a sharp, stylish haircut, with chiseled, rugged features. His tall, imposing frame felt incredibly oppressive. Just that one casual glance made Su Chen feel nervous for no reason.
He weighed his words carefully. “Can I have your contact information?”
The man didn’t answer immediately.
This was Su Chen’s first time asking a man for his contact info, and yet this guy neither refused nor agreed. He just tapped his right index and middle fingers against his phone incessantly, as if weighing the decision.
Su Chen felt incredibly awkward, wanting nothing more than to find a crack in the ground and disappear into it.
“If it’s inconvenient, then—”
Before the words “forget it” could leave his throat, he was interrupted.
“Are you an adult?”
Mockery! That was absolutely mockery!
“I’m already twenty-two!”
Su Chen hated it when people called him young. He took after his mother’s side, with a very delicate, youthful face, but was that his fault?!
“Why do you want my contact info?”
There was nothing he couldn’t say; Su Chen was very honest. “I lost a game of Truth or Dare.”
“Is there a designated target?”
“Yeah.”
“How was the target chosen?”
Su Chen was getting annoyed. “Are you taking a census? Just give it if you want, and forget it if you don’t. Why ask so many questions?”
“Do you have this same attitude when you ask girls for their contact info?”
“That’s different, isn’t it? Girls are so cute, and I’m a gentleman.”
But facing a rigid, tough man one who looked like he could knock him out with a single punch Su Chen couldn’t be a gentleman to save his life.
Chen Yanzhi righteously condemned him. “So, you’re discriminating based on gender?”
“No, man, you—” Su Chen hammered his own weak, powerless chest muscles, then went to hammer the stranger’s.
The muscles under his knuckles were firm and powerful. Su Chen looked both envious and helpless. “For someone like you, do you really need me to be a gentleman?”
Chen Yanzhi lowered his eyes for a second, a playful smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. “You’ve convinced me.”
“Should’ve done that a while ago.”
Su Chen stared at the male strength hidden beneath the black shirt and couldn’t resist picking his brain. “Hey, man, how do you train like this?”
Chen Yanzhi looked him up and down and said bluntly, “You couldn’t train for this.”
Su Chen choked, his almond-shaped eyes widening into perfect circles; clearly, he was thinking some very dirty thoughts.
Great, his ego was bruised.
As he turned to leave, his arm was grabbed. The man pulled up a QR code. “Add me.”
Su Chen glared at him, but the man didn’t budge. Fine, he was a magnanimous man.
With a ding, he scanned it, and the request was immediately accepted.
“No nickname?”
“Su Meng.”
Chen Yanzhi’s fingers paused, his expression a mix of oddity and complexity. “Meng-Meng (Cute/Adorable)?”
Su Chen suspected he was doing it on purpose.
“It’s the ‘Meng’ from ‘Tough Guy’ (Meng-Nan)!”
A little cat showing its claws, yet calls itself a tough guy.
Chen Yanzhi couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “Got it. Chen Yanzhi.”
It took Su Chen a few seconds to realize that was his name. He didn’t know what he was thinking, but he started giggling.
Chen Yanzhi narrowed his eyes, confused. “What are you laughing at?”
“Cough, nothing. ‘Swallow’ (Yanzhi sounds like Swallow), bye.”
Su Chen scurried off as soon as he said it, and couldn’t stop laughing until he returned to the booth.
“It was just asking for a number, not a pretty girl. Why did you talk for so long?”
Su Chen giggled. “He was so fussy, asking for a number like he was taking a census.”
One of the guys remarked, “Hard to tell. He looked so cold and aloof.”
Su Chen used what he had just learned: “You can’t judge a book by its cover. That’s appearance discrimination.”
“…”
Qin Yuze returned from the restroom and plopped down. “So, did you get it?”
“Of course! I saw that guy turn down several people who went to ask for his contact info all night long. Our Brother Chen still has the most charm you get it on the first try.”
Su Chen huffed. “Of course. When I, your lord, make a move, it’s a done deal.”
“Tsk, look at you.”
One girl’s face turned slightly red. “Brother Chen, could you push that guy’s WeChat to me?”
“Of course I can, but I don’t know if he’ll add you.”
“It’s fine, just try. If he doesn’t add me, forget it.”
Su Chen quickly forwarded the contact card and subconsciously glanced in that direction; the man happened to be standing up to leave.
Qin Yuze followed his gaze, seeing only the back of a stranger. “What are you looking at?”
“The ‘swallow’ has flown away.”
“What kind of nonsense are you talking about? Drink, drink!”
Su Chen clinked glasses with someone. “Are we still playing?”
“Let’s rest a while.”
Qin Yuze draped an arm over his shoulder, remembering something. “My family’s resort is having a soft opening this Saturday. Want to come play?”
“Sure. Who else is going?”
“Just the usual crowd. Everyone’s familiar.”
Su Chen turned his head. “Can I call Brother Shen? He’s been heartbroken lately; he needs to go out and clear his mind.”
“No problem. If Brother Shen is willing, of course I’d welcome him.”
“Then I’ll ask him.”
He couldn’t wait to make the call. “Hey, Brother Shen, are you free this Saturday?”
“Hey? Wait, it’s a bit noisy here. Let me go outside to talk.”
Su Chen held the microphone, pushing through the crowd of dancing people, turned, and walked further away.
“I said, are you free this Saturday? You’re holing up at home again… You’re only twenty-five, don’t live like you’re fifty-two. You need to relax properly… It’s just me and Yuze’s friends… Brother Shen, the best way to forget an ex is to find a next one. Meeting more people is never a bad thing… I don’t care, you have to keep me company. It’s settled then, see you Saturday, bye-bye!”
After hanging up, Su Chen flashed a smug smile. “When I, your lord, make a move, it’s bound to be a success!”
Having easily handled Shen Xubai, Su Chen walked with a swagger, completely unaware of a black car parked by the roadside. The front passenger window was halfway down, and someone hidden in the darkness had heard the entire conversation.
[Chen]: I’m sitting at the head table at the wedding.
