- Chapter 53 - Dog Bites Dog
Grandpa’s stroke this matter absolutely cannot be left unsettled.
Nanxi confronted Qin Xiaozhe, “Qin Xiaozhe, if you want to protect your mother and your wife, what about Grandpa? Who will protect him?”
They were the ones who harmed Grandpa, yet they were trying every possible way to escape punishment.
Qin Xiaozhe guiltily lowered his head. Upon hearing Nanxi’s words, he hurriedly corrected her, “Lin Rufei and I are not married. She is not my wife. In my heart, you are.”
Nanxi didn’t want to hear any of this. “I am Mrs. Mu and have nothing to do with you, Qin Xiaozhe. Grandpa is still lying in the hospital. If you have even a shred of conscience, you shouldn’t let them evade punishment.”
Qin Xiaozhe’s expression turned troubled.
One was his biological mother, and the other was carrying his child. Although he no longer had feelings for Lin Rufei, he hoped to resolve this issue peacefully.
Seeing Nanxi pressuring her son so relentlessly, Deng Xiu angrily scolded, “You’re an outsider. What right do you have to meddle in our family’s affairs?”
For once, Mrs. Lin stood on the same side as Deng Xiu, sneering at Nanxi, “A divorced woman still meddling in her ex-husband’s family matters, how shameless.”
Qin Xiaozhe stepped forward, wanting to shield Nanxi.
However, before he could speak, a tall figure stepped in front of Nanxi first.
His gaze swept over Deng Xiu and Mrs. Lin, his eyes dark and intense. “Who gave you the audacity to speak ill of my wife, Mu Yichen? Before criticizing others, you should worry about yourselves.”
Nanxi felt much more secure seeing Mu Yichen standing protectively in front of her.
Mr. Lin, afraid of offending Mu Yichen after seeing his anger, pushed Mrs. Lin aside and said, “Mr. Mu, I’m truly sorry. That’s not what we meant.”
But as soon as he finished speaking, his phone rang.
“What? All our contracted partners have breached their agreements and refuse to cooperate with us?” After hanging up, Mr. Lin’s face turned pale. He no longer had time to deal with the trivial matters at hand and left the police station.
Mrs. Lin stopped him, “Where are you going? Can’t you see our daughter is being bullied?”
“It’s all because of your constant meddling. Who knows who you’ve offended? Now, the company is about to collapse.” With that, Mr. Lin shoved Mrs. Lin aside and stormed off.
Mrs. Lin felt humiliated. She knew Qin Xiaozhe had turned his back on them, so she had to find another way to protect her daughter.
She glared at Deng Xiu, “You old hag, think carefully. If you insist on dragging my daughter down with you, then don’t ever expect to get your hands on the child in her belly.”
Deng Xiu was instantly cornered and immediately softened her tone. “No, let’s discuss this calmly. The child is what matters. If there’s any responsibility to bear, I’ll take it.”
“No,” Qin Xiaozhe disagreed. “Lin Rufei started this. It has nothing to do with you!”
The child he had with Lin Rufei was not that important to him. In his view, this child was an obstacle to his relationship with Nanxi. If not for this child, Nanxi wouldn’t still resent him and agree to marry Mu Yichen.
He didn’t care about this child at all. In fact, he even thought that if Lin Rufei were to lose the child this time, it might not be such a bad thing.
Qin Xiaozhe’s words brought Lin Rufei to tears. “Qin Xiaozhe, have you forgotten how you used to coax me? You said I was the most important person in your heart, that you wished me the best. How could you be so cruel now?”
“You still have the nerve to say that? It’s because of you that my relationship with Nanxi was ruined.”
“It’s your own inability to let go of me, what does that have to do with me? You’re the most selfish person. Claiming to care about Nanxi is nothing more than your unwillingness to accept losing her and not being able to have her anymore. Just like when I left you, you said you couldn’t forget me and found Nanxi, who resembles me. But it was never because you loved me it was just to soothe your own sense of loss.”
With his innermost insecurities laid bare, Qin Xiaozhe lunged at Lin Rufei like a madman, grabbing her by the neck and roaring, “Shut up! I told you to shut up!”
Lin Rufei was nearly suffocating. Lin’s mother and Deng Xiu hurriedly intervened to stop him.
The police immediately stepped in and restrained Qin Xiaozhe.
But Lin Rufei was already severely agitated, clutching her stomach in pain and crying out.
Lin’s mother, heartbroken, saw the blood trickling down her daughter’s leg and screamed in panic, “What’s happening? Quick, take her to the hospital!”
However, Lin Rufei was suspected of harming others and could not leave.
Fearing she might lose her grandchild, Deng Xiu could no longer hold back. “It was me who harmed the old master. I’m the only one to blame.”
She took full responsibility, accepting all the blame, and was detained by the police.
Lin Rufei was rushed to the hospital.
Qin Xiaozhe had intended to help his mother evade blame when the company’s finance department called. “It’s bad, President Qin. Our accounts have been frozen by the tax authorities.”
Qin Xiaozhe felt his vision darken. Steadying himself, he had no time to deal with Deng Xiu’s situation and rushed straight to the company.
At the entrance, he spotted Nanxi standing by the door. He paused for a moment but didn’t have time to say anything before driving off.
The chaotic scene quickly settled into silence.
Mu Yichen led Nanxi into the car. On the way back, reflecting on the earlier turmoil, Nanxi couldn’t help but sigh.
“Before, Qin Xiaozhe treated Lin Rufei like the apple of his eye, but now he can’t even stand the sight of her.”
It seemed he truly no longer loved Lin Rufei.
Or perhaps he never had. Maybe it was just that after Lin Rufei abandoned him back then, he couldn’t let go, and over time, it turned into an obsession. Now that the illusion had shattered, the idealized memory of her didn’t live up to reality, and she became an eyesore.
Even the child in her womb no longer mattered to him.
Mu Yichen held Nanxi’s hand, his eyes filled with deep affection. “You will always be the apple of my eye.”
Nanxi hadn’t expected someone as aloof and proud as Mu Yichen to speak such sweet words. She couldn’t help but laugh and asked him, “Was it you who arranged for the Lin family’s collaborations to be canceled?”
A faint smile tugged at Mu Yichen’s lips. “You prepared Qin Xiaozhe’s financial troubles. Naturally, I had to follow your lead.”
Nanxi chuckled. “Well, they’re in for a headache now.”
Nanxi was right.
When Lin’s father returned to the Lin Corporation and saw the stack of breach-of-contract notices in the folder, his head throbbed with pain.
Recently, deals that had already been finalized were inexplicably canceled. Now, even distributors who had collaborated with them for years were terminating their partnerships and demanding compensation for breach of contract. If this continued, the company was likely to collapse.
Overwhelmed with frustration, he pondered and finally realized: the Lin family had thoroughly offended Mu Yichen, and these measures were his way of teaching them a lesson.
Just as Lin’s father was contemplating how to resolve the situation, his phone rang incessantly.
Seeing it was his wife calling, he answered.
On the phone, Mother Lin’s commanding, almost frantic voice rang out, “Lin Xiangbin, your daughter is on the verge of a miscarriage! Go find Qin Xiaozhe and his ex-wife Nanxi right now and settle the score. If it weren’t for her, our daughter wouldn’t be suffering like this!”
Father Lin, already nursing a headache, grew even more irritated at her words. “Stay put at the hospital. Don’t you dare go anywhere.”
“What do you mean by that? Our daughter’s been wronged, and you’re going to hide like a coward? If you won’t go, I will!”
Knowing full well that his fierce wife was capable of anything, Father Lin gritted his teeth and snapped, “Du Qian, shut your mouth! Don’t you dare provoke Nanxi. If you go looking for her, we’re getting a divorce!”
