- Chapter 47 - Just Can't Stand You
Nanxi quickly rushed to the hospital.
By the time she arrived, the old master had already been wheeled into the emergency room.
Outside the emergency room, Qin Xiaozhe was questioning Qi Zhengchu, “What exactly happened? Wasn’t his condition stable? How could Grandpa suddenly faint?”
The old master’s health had always been Qi Zhengchu’s responsibility. During this hospitalization, he had been even more attentive, checking on the old master’s condition multiple times a day, with nurses and caregivers looking after him. The situation had been relatively stable, so no one understood why the old master had suddenly lost consciousness.
“The old master’s condition was stable. We need to investigate why this sudden change occurred.”
“What’s the point of investigating after something has already happened?” Qin Xiaozhe demanded.
Qi Zhengchu’s expression turned colder.
Back then, he had taken charge of the old master’s health because Qin Xiaozhe was his brother. Over the years, he had been diligent in caring for the old master’s well-being.
Yet his dedication had not earned Qin Xiaozhe’s acknowledgment. Instead, at the first sign of trouble, he faced nothing but suspicion.
Qi Zhengchu felt a chill in his heart.
“If I’m responsible, then what about you? You’re his family, what have you done?”
Qin Xiaozhe, filled with anger, glared at Qi Zhengchu, his features twisting with displeasure.
Qi Zhengchu met his furious gaze without flinching.
Just as the two were locked in a standoff, the door to the emergency room opened.
Qin Xiaozhe stepped forward. “Doctor, how is my grandfather?”
“The patient’s blood pressure spiked, combined with emotional agitation, leading to a stroke. He may face paralysis.”
Upon hearing this, Qin Xiaozhe was completely stunned.
Not far away, Nanxi’s legs instantly went weak, and she staggered backward.
Mu Yichen steadied her. “Don’t panic. The old master will recover.”
Tears were already streaming down Nanxi’s face.
Grandpa had suffered a stroke. Just a couple of days ago, he was fine, how could this have happened?
Qin Xiaozhe, unable to accept the news either, scanned the room before his eyes finally settled on Qi Zhengchu’s face. “Why? Tell me why! My grandfather was perfectly fine, how could he suddenly have a stroke?”
Qi Zhengchu understood Qin Xiaozhe’s concern. He recalled the details leading up to the incident, and his gaze swept over Deng Xiu, who was sitting on a bench.
“After Auntie visited the old master, his condition took a turn for the worse.”
Qin Xiaozhe turned to look at Deng Xiu.
Nanxi’s eyes also fixed on her.
Under everyone’s scrutiny, Deng Xiu grew furious. She jumped up and shouted, “Why are you all staring at me? I just came to see the old master. His poor health has nothing to do with me!”
Qin Xiaozhe looked at her with a complicated expression.
Noticing Deng Xiu’s clenched hands, Nanxi walked over and asked, “What did you do to Grandpa?”
Deng Xiu shrugged indifferently. “I didn’t do anything.”
“If you did nothing, then why did Grandpa have a stroke?” Nanxi demanded angrily.
Deng Xiu flared up. “How should I know? I’m your elder is that any way to speak to me? Where are your manners? No wonder my son left you.”
“Mom!” Qin Xiaozhe warned coldly.
Deng Xiu shot Nanxi a disdainful look and said no more.
After Grandpa was admitted to the hospital, his blood pressure had stabilized. Such a sudden turn of events couldn’t have happened without Deng Xiu’s involvement.
When the old master was wheeled out, Nanxi approached. Seeing his tightly shut eyes and slightly tilted mouth, her nose tingled with sorrow.
Grandpa had always been a strong-willed man, but now he lay confined to a hospital bed, facing the risk of paralysis. Nanxi watched, her heart twisting as if pierced by a knife, overwhelmed with anguish.
Seeing the tear stains on Nanxi’s face, Qin Xiaozhe bent down and helped the nurse wheel the old man into the ward.
Once Grandpa was settled in the room, Mu Yichen turned and left.
Nanxi sat by the bedside, watching the array of monitoring equipment attached to her grandfather. As she tidied things up, tears streamed down her cheeks.
Qin Xiaozhe tried to console her, “Don’t be too upset. If Grandpa knew how heartbroken you are, he’d be distressed.”
Nanxi ignored him. Noticing that the urine bag was full, she crouched down to empty it.
“Let me do it,” Qin Xiaozhe insisted, stepping forward to take over.
Nanxi pushed him away, her eyes blazing with fury as she glared at him, then continued with her task.
Her gaze was sharp as a blade, and Qin Xiaozhe flinched inwardly, withdrawing his hand without another word.
Grandpa had suffered a stroke, and he was just as grief-stricken as Nanxi.
“I know you’re hurting, but I’m Grandpa’s grandson too. How could I not be in pain? Rest assured, I will find the person responsible for this and bring them before Grandpa to give him an explanation.”
Nanxi’s eyes were red from crying as she glared at him. “The one who harmed Grandpa is Deng Xiu.”
“My mother may have a sharp tongue, but she means no harm. How could she”
“A sharp tongue reveals a malicious heart. If she can’t even control her words, how good can her heart be?”
Qin Xiaozhe fell silent.
Seeing that Nanxi wouldn’t even spare him a glance, his heart ached with bitterness. After a moment’s hesitation, he spoke again, “Nanxi, I know you’re angry, and I don’t blame you. I promise you, once I’ve investigated thoroughly, no matter who it is, I won’t let them off easily. Grandpa will get the justice he deserves.”
Nanxi let out a cold laugh.
“You don’t believe me?”
“Why should I?”
Qin Xiaozhe reached for her hand. “Even if we’re no longer husband and wife, can’t we at least be friends? Do you despise me that much?”
“Yes, I despise you. From the moment you hurt me, I’ve loathed you.”
“I’ve already given up on Lin Rufe. I won’t marry her. Why can’t you forgive me?”
Hah.
Nanxi sneered.
Such bandit logic.
According to him, as long as he admitted his mistakes, he deserved forgiveness and if he wasn’t forgiven, it was the victim’s fault.
“Qin Xiaozhe, I’m married now. Lin Rufe is your girlfriend, and she’s carrying your child.”
“That doesn’t matter. After she gives birth, we can raise the child together.”
“Qin Xiaozhe, what did you say?” Lin Rufe had just entered the room and overheard Qin Xiaozhe holding Nanxi’s hand while uttering those words.
She rushed over and shoved him. “You don’t want me, and now you want to take my child and raise it with her? Why?”
Caught off guard by Lin Rufe’s sudden appearance, Qin Xiaozhe’s expression stiffened briefly before he composed himself. “Since you heard, I’ll tell you now, I won’t give up on Nanxi. I’m going to remarry her. As for the child you’re carrying, Nanxi and I will raise it together.”
Lin Rufe pointed an accusing finger at Nanxi. “You’re already divorced from Xiaozhe! Why are you still clinging to him? Now you want to steal my child too? How shameless can you be?”
Nanxi rolled her eyes. “Are you out of your mind?”
The divorce had finalized everything. She and Qin Xiaozhe were strangers now, she wanted nothing to do with him, let alone raise a child with him. She wasn’t that foolish.
“You did it on purpose. You think by doing this, you can steal Xiaozhe away? Dream on!” Lin Rufe said, about to take action.
Qin Xiaozhe grabbed her hand. “Enough, this has nothing to do with Nanxi.”
Qin Xiaoze was actually defending Nanxi, which made Lin Rufe even more upset. “You’re actually protecting her?”
“If it weren’t for you deliberately getting close to me, would I have separated from Nanxi? Be good and give birth to the child. Nanxi and I will raise it together.”
” you two.” Lin Rufe’s sorrowful gaze shifted between Qin Xiaozhe and Nanxi’s faces, her eyes filled with disappointment.
Nanxi was speechless and couldn’t bear to listen any longer. “I have no interest in raising your child for you. I have my own husband.”
