Deng Xiu and Lin Rufe were driven out, their expressions sour as they glared at each other and resumed their argument.

Unable to win against Deng Xiu, Lin Rufe stormed off angrily, determined to find Qin Xiaozhe and have him handle the situation.

“Xiaozhe, I don’t know what I did wrong, but your mother went to find Nanxi and suggested she become your mistress. Nanxi made a scene, immediately complained, and the CEO of Mu Corporation had us thrown out.”

As Lin Rufe spoke, she wore a pitiful expression but failed to notice the dark scowl on Qin Xiaozhe’s face.

He had just received a call from Luo Rongfei companies that had previously agreed to collaborate were suddenly canceling their partnerships. He was overwhelmed trying to figure out the reason when Lin Rufe showed up.

“My mother went to Mu Corporation?”

Suppressing her distress, Lin Rufe nodded. “Xiaozhe, you know how much I love you. How could there be room for a third person between us?”

Qin Xiaozhe was too agitated to care about her feelings and pressed for details about what happened at Mu Corporation. “What exactly did you do there?”

“What else? Your mother went to confront Nanxi and asked her to be your mistress. Nanxi said she wasn’t interested, and they ended up in a heated argument. It got so out of hand that Mu Yichen, the CEO of Mu Corporation, got involved.”

“What? Mu Yichen was there too?”

“Yes.” Lin Rufe hung her head, her eyes red as if holding back tears, pretending to wipe them away.

She had expected Qin Xiaozhe to comfort her upon seeing her distress, but instead, he grew furious. “Who told you to go to Mu Corporation?”

Now he understood why the collaborations had been abruptly canceled the root of the problem lay right here.

Lin Rufe was taken aback, tears still on her cheeks as she stared at Qin Xiaozhe in shock. “It wasn’t me! It was your mother. She insisted on going. I had nothing to do with it.”

“I knew you’d blame me! Son, don’t listen to her. She egged me on to confront Nanxi, and things got out of hand. We even offended CEO Mu, which is why we were thrown out.” Deng Xiu had arrived a step later and was infuriated to overhear Lin Rufe shifting the blame.

“Auntie, you’re wronging me! I only went shopping with you for Xiaozhe’s sake. How was I to know you’d confront Nanxi and anger CEO Mu?”

“It was you!”

“If you hadn’t caused such a scene, it wouldn’t have affected anything, and CEO Mu wouldn’t have gotten angry.”

“You’re the one who kept saying Nanxi was in the wrong, using me as your pawn!”

“Auntie, you’re an adult. How could I possibly make you do something you didn’t want to do?”

“Enough!”

Qin Xiaozhe’s cold shout cut through their bickering.

He had been baffled by the sudden cancellation of the partnerships, wondering where he had gone wrong. Now, hearing their account, he was certain their reckless behavior had offended Mu Corporation.

One was his mother, the other his fiancee, and they had both caused a scene at Mu Corporation. No wonder Mu Yichen was furious and had pressured other companies to cut ties with him.

Neither woman understood why Qin Xiaozhe was so angry and looked at him in confusion.

“Who told you to go to Mu Corporation?” Qin Xiaozhe demanded.

Lin Rufe’s gaze shifted to Deng Xiu. “Auntie, you were the one who said Nanxi was out of line and that we should teach her a lesson. I only went with you.”

“Nonsense! It was you who claimed Nanxi was clinging to Xiaozhe and toying with his feelings. That’s why I went. And you call yourself a lady from a good family, how can you lie like this?”

“I did not.”

“Are you saying I’m lying?”

“Smash!”

The sound of shattering glass cut through their argument.

Qin Xiaozhe was furious, his eyes sweeping over the broken glass on the floor before glancing at their faces. “Do you have any idea that companies that were initially interested in collaborating with us have all refused? This is all your doing!”

Upon hearing this, Lin Rufei lowered her gaze slightly and took a step back. She couldn’t understand she had only gone to the Mu Corporation to find Nanxi. Although she had caused a scene, it hadn’t affected the Mu Corporation. How could things have turned out this way?

Seeing the anger on her son’s face, Deng Xiu finally realized she might have caused trouble and grew worried. “Son, I only went to find Nanxi. How could this ”

Mu Yichen interjected, “You caused a scene at the Mu Corporation and offended Mu Yichen. Other companies refusing to cooperate with us is just a word from the Mu Corporation.”

Deng Xiu panicked completely. “What should we do then? Should I go find President Mu and explain to him?”

“Even if I went, Mu Yichen might not agree to see me, let alone you. Who do you think you are?” Qin Xiaozhe sneered.

“Then, what should we do?” Deng Xiu was at a loss. She hadn’t expected that her visit to Nanxi would impact her son’s career.

Turning her head and seeing Lin Rufei standing there silently with her head bowed, Deng Xiu directed her anger at her. “It’s you! You’re the one who dragged my son into this. When Nanxi was here, she handled everything, and we never encountered problems like this. It’s all your fault.”

If Qin Xiaozhe hadn’t been present, Lin Rufei would have loved to slap the old woman.

Suppressing her anger, she shook her head and explained, “I don’t know either. We only went to find Nanxi. It didn’t affect the Mu Corporation. Why would President Mu be angry?”

Her words reminded Qin Xiaozhe of something.

Perhaps it was because Mu Yichen valued Nanxi?

When Nanxi was at the Qin Corporation, she had indeed been exceptionally capable. Maybe it was because of her abilities that Mu Yichen was so angry.

Moreover, from what he knew, the Mu Corporation had once offered Nanxi a vice president position to join them.

“Mu Yichen values Nanxi’s abilities.”

Lin Rufei thought the same. The idea that Mu Yichen would protect Nanxi made her increasingly uncomfortable.

If she had known this would happen, she should never have agreed to let Nanxi leave the Qin Corporation. That way, Nanxi wouldn’t have had the chance to join the Mu Corporation and gain Mu Yichen’s favor.

If things continued like this, Nanxi might soon surpass her.

After a moment of thought, Lin Rufei looked at Qin Xiaozhe. “Xiaozhe, why don’t we ask Nanxi to come back? I’ll let her take my position as vice president.”

Once Nanxi returned to the Qin Corporation, she would be at her mercy.

Qin Xiaozhe thought it made sense and immediately agreed with Lin Rufei’s suggestion. They would find Nanxi and ask her to return. Once she was back, they could leave everything to her to resolve she had always been resourceful.

In the CEO’s office.

Mu Yichen hung up the phone and told Nanxi, “Qin Xiaozhe is in a state of panic right now.”

With the hard-won collaborations being canceled one after another, Qin Xiaozhe was likely going insane.

Nanxi could even picture his frantic expression and couldn’t help but smile.

“Those collaborations were ones I helped him secure when I was still there.”

Mu Yichen looked at Nanxi with admiration. “You were his lucky star. Losing you is his punishment.”

Nanxi looked up, recalling all the efforts she had made, and sighed. “There’s only one week left until we can get the divorce certificate. After that, he and I will have nothing to do with each other.”

The kindness he had shown her back then had been more than repaid over these five years.

Seeing Nanxi so resolute, Mu Yichen asked, “Have you submitted the documents to the legal department?”

“Yes. If he continues to drag this out, he’ll be the one to regret it.”

Nanxi had prepared for both outcomes. If Qin Xiaozhe agreed to the divorce as promised, they could part ways amicably. But if he insisted on dragging her through this, humiliating her, then those financial records would become the bitter medicine she’d force him to swallow.
