Mu Yichen held Nanxi by the waist as they left.

Once in the car, Nanxi shifted slightly to the side, creating some distance between herself and Mu Yichen.

“Thank you for helping me out earlier,” Nanxi said.

Mu Yichen had indeed helped her. Qin Xiaozhe’s face had turned as dark as ink at the time. Though she didn’t know what he was thinking, she was certain he wasn’t pleased.

Mu Yichen, however, studied her carefully. When he noticed the hospital gown she was wearing, his eyes couldn’t hide his concern. “I’m sorry I didn’t pay attention to your situation these past few days,” he said.

He truly hadn’t expected Qin Xiaozhe to go so far as to forcibly take Nanxi away, causing her harm.

Nanxi shook her head. “It’s not your fault. Qin Xiaozhe acted behind the scenes, so no amount of caution would have helped. Still, I really owe you one. If you hadn’t arrived in time, who knows how long he would have kept me trapped.”

“You should thank Zhao Dong for that,” Mu Yichen said, explaining how Zhao Dong had come to his office to inform him.

Nanxi made a mental note of it, her impression of Zhao Dong improving. Regardless of his capabilities, he was clearly a highly responsible person. Even before they had properly met, he had already helped her.

“I’ll make sure to thank him properly,” she said.

Mu Yichen’s gaze shifted away from Nanxi’s hospital gown. “As for Qin Xiaozhe, I’ll handle him.”

He wouldn’t let anyone who harmed someone under his protection get away unscathed.

Hearing this, Nanxi shook her head. “Let me deal with it myself.”

In the past, out of respect for their marriage, she had hoped for an amicable separation, wishing each other well afterward, so she hadn’t wanted to expose anything.

But now, since Qin Xiaozhe had acted without conscience first, she couldn’t be blamed for retaliating.

She took out her phone, compiled the messages Lin Rufei had previously sent her, and emailed them to Qin Xiaozhe.

She was curious to see how Qin Xiaozhe would react once he discovered the things his beloved had been doing behind his back.

Besides that, there was one more thing she needed to do, though it required Mu Yichen’s help.

“Qin Xiaozhe’s company has many financial discrepancies. I need to gather evidence and organize it.”

Seeing how methodically Nanxi was handling the situation, Mu Yichen’s lips curved into a slight smile. “Leave it to me.”

Nanxi gazed into the distance, her eyes narrowing slightly. “With this evidence, Qin Xiaozhe won’t dare act recklessly anymore. Moreover, if he drags his feet about finalizing the divorce, this evidence will be enough to help him make up his mind.”

Mu Yichen couldn’t help but clap his hands in admiration. “Well done. You’re truly someone I’ve set my sights on.”

Praised like this, Nanxi felt a bit embarrassed and lowered her head with a smile. The gloom that had weighed on her after being tormented by Qin Xiaozhe over the past two days began to lift, and she felt much more at ease.

Qin Xiaozhe’s mind was buzzing, so much so that he didn’t even notice Lin Rufei entering.

“What’s wrong?” she asked.

Qin Xiaozhe looked dazed. Mu Yichen’s words had exploded in his mind like a thunderclap. He couldn’t believe it. “Nanxi is getting married? Mu Yichen said Nanxi is his fiancée! How is that possible?”

If Mu Yichen hadn’t said it himself, he would never have believed that Nanxi a woman he had discarded could attract someone’s interest, let alone someone like Mu Yichen.

Hearing this, Lin Rufei immediately laughed. “How could that be? The Mu family is an established lineage, and Mu Yichen is the grandson Old Master Mu values the most. How could a family like theirs accept a divorced woman? With Mu Yichen’s status, how could he possibly be interested in Nanxi? Wouldn’t it be embarrassing for him to be seen with her?”

Qin Xiaozhe didn’t believe it either, and hearing Lin Rufei say this, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

“You make a good point. Then why did Mu Yichen say that?”

“Nanxi is now an employee of the Mu Corporation. Mu Yichen must have said that to save her face.”

It had to be that.

Lin Rufei stared at Qin Xiaozhe’s face. He had been guarding Nanxi these past few days. Although he was keeping her confined, as a woman, she knew very well that he simply couldn’t let go of his ex-wife and wanted to be with her again, just like before.

Lin Rufei would never allow it.

Qin Xiaozhe was hers. Now that she was pregnant, he was the father of this child.

“Xiaozhe.” Thinking of this, Lin Rufei wrapped her arms around Qin Xiaozhe’s neck, looking at him with a shy expression. She freed one hand to stroke his chest, tracing circles over and over.

“Do you remember the first time we met? We fell for each other at first sight. From then on, you were the only one in my heart. Even though we had some unpleasantness later, in my heart, you’ve always been the most special one. I’ve never forgotten you, Xiaozhe. I like you.”

The sudden confession made Qin Xiaozhe’s heart race wildly.

He completely forgot about how Lin Rufei had abandoned him when he loved her the most, going abroad to marry someone else.

His entire body tensed up, his blood boiling with excitement. Feeling Lin Rufei pressed against him, his heart began to beat erratically with emotion. “Rufei.”

Lin Rufei didn’t give him a chance to speak. She raised her finger, pressing her fingertip to his lips, then slowly leaned in closer.

Feeling the warmth of her touch, Qin Xiaozhe could no longer suppress the wild pounding in his chest. He took control, tightly embracing Lin Rufei, turning over, and without a care that they were in a hospital, he pinned her to the hospital bed, moving downward to kiss her neck.

All these years, he had never forgotten her. Even marrying Nanxi was only because her face resembled Lin Rufei’s.

Lin Rufei stroked his collarbone, a smug smile curling her lips, pleased that her plan was going smoothly, when suddenly, Qin Xiaozhe’s phone chimed.

Qin Xiaozhe withdrew the hand that had been exploring.

It was the notification sound for an email. Anyone who had access to his work email must have something important to discuss.

“Sorry.” He got up to check the email.

Lin Rufei was displeased and grabbed his hand. “Xiaozhe, don’t go.”

With that, she took his phone and tossed it aside. “Stay with me, okay?”

She then leaned in and nibbled on his earlobe.

A volcano seemed to erupt inside Qin Xiaozhe, and he could no longer control himself. He pulled Lin Rufei close again.

However, when the phone was thrown, it accidentally turned on, and the voice message began to play.

“Do you know why he married you? Take a good look at your face. He only married you as a replacement. Now that I’m back, it’s time for you, the fake, to get lost.”

Qin Xiaozhe’s back stiffened instantly, and his movements halted.

That was, Lin Rufei’s voice.

He looked at Lin Rufei, his face full of shock, then stood up to check the phone.

Lin Rufei was also startled.

What was going on? Wasn’t this the message she had sent to Nan Xi? How could it,

“Xiaozhe.” Lin Rufei tried to snatch the phone, but Qin Xiaozhe had already seen the picture attached to the voice message, a photo of him proposing to Lin Rufei, kneeling on one knee, confessing his love to her.

The email was sent by Nanxi. Seeing all this, Qin Xiaozhe understood everything.

He looked at Lin Rufe in shock, raising his phone with disbelief filling his eyes. “Did you send this to Nanxi?”

Seeing his anger, Lin Rufe shook her head. “I didn’t, it wasn’t me.”

“At the proposal scene, there was no one else but you!”

“Xiaozhe, let me explain. I, I just accidentally.”

“The proposal was to make you happy, and the divorce agreement too. I’ve already done so much,why are you still playing such tricks?”
