“My hand hurts so much. How could President Mu act like that? We were doing it for his own good, yet he resorted to violence.” Once outside Mu Corporation, Lin Rufei’s eyes reddened with grievance.

Qin Xiaozhe lifted her arm to take a look it was indeed red. “I’ll take you back.”

Lin Rufei didn’t want to leave just like that. Nanxi was nothing but a secondhand item, an orphan with no backing, while she had Qin Xiaozhe’s love and the support of the Lin Group. She was determined to crush Nanxi.

She absolutely could not let Nanxi stay comfortably at Mu Corporation.

“Xiaozhe, do you think Nanxi seduced Mu Yichen? Otherwise, why would he protect her so fiercely? She’s just a project manager, yet he’s willing to offend both the Qin and Lin Groups for her.”

Qin Xiaozhe was already in a somber mood, and at these words, his face instantly darkened.

With a man’s intuition, he had sensed Mu Yichen’s protectiveness when Nanxi was mentioned. At the time, he had barely restrained himself from questioning Mu Yichen, but out of respect for Mu Yichen’s status and the belief that someone like Mu Yichen would never be interested in Nanxi and considering Nanxi had only ever had eyes for him all these years he dismissed the possibility.

But now, hearing Lin Rufei’s analysis, he couldn’t help but feel furious.

An uncontrollable sensation surged from his chest, making him feel increasingly powerless.

Nanxi could not leave him. She could not live without him. Even if she were to be protected, it had to be by him.

“I’m going to bring her back to Qin Corporation myself!”

She had to stay by his side. What could she possibly accomplish without him?

Though Lin Rufei disliked Nanxi and didn’t want her back at Qin Corporation, Qin Xiaozhe loved her. Having Nanxi under close watch was far better than letting her thrive freely at Mu Corporation.

“Alright. If Nanxi finds out you’re willing to give her another chance, she’ll surely be overjoyed. I’ll go call her.”

“No need. Bringing her back doesn’t require her consent!”

Back in her office, Nanxi contacted Zhao Dong and arranged to meet him the next day.

After finishing her work, she left the office and prepared to head home.

“Manager Nan.” Hou Jian approached her and shared some news. “Earlier, Qin Xiaozhe and Lin Rufei came to see President Mu.”

“What were they here for?” Mu Corporation had never collaborated with Qin Corporation. What could they possibly want?

“They came to expose the truth about your dismissal and urged President Mu to fire you.”

“Hah.” Nanxi laughed in disbelief. They must have seen her shining at the banquet and couldn’t bear to see her doing well. That’s why they told Mu Yichen she had been fired and blacklisted in the industry, urging Mu Corporation not to hire her.

Such a malicious move, trying to corner her into a dead end, thinking she couldn’t survive without Qin Xiaozhe, was utterly absurd.

This kind of underhanded scheme had to be Lin Rufei’s idea. She wasn’t satisfied with just stealing the man; she couldn’t stand to see Nanxi doing well and wanted to drive her to ruin.

Qin Xiaozhe, who cared so much about Lin Rufei, would naturally go along with it. It was pitiful that a man of his status would stoop to such petty, behind-the-scenes treachery.

“What did President Mu say?” Nanxi asked.

She didn’t care what those two were up to she only cared about Mu Yichen’s stance.

“President Mu said they overstepped their boundaries and had them thrown out.”

Nanxi hadn’t expected Mu Yichen to trust her so much. Touched, she said, “Please thank President Mu for me.”

“You’re President Mu’s fiancee. Of course, he would protect you.”

Hearing this, Nanxi smiled mockingly.

Mu Yichen, a fiancé she had only known for a few days, knew to protect her and trust her unconditionally. Yet Qin Xiaozhe, her husband of five years, who had enjoyed her care for half a decade without even asking for gratitude only hoping for an amicable parting, had instead teamed up with another woman to falsely accuse her.

After bidding Hou Jian farewell, Nanxi took the elevator downstairs.

Just as she reached the company entrance, a car pulled up in front of her. Before she could react, she was dragged inside.

“Qin Xiaozhe, what are you doing?” Nanxi demanded furiously once she recognized his face.

“I should be asking you the same. Who gave you permission to work at Mu Corporation?”

After leaving the banquet, Qin Xiaozhe had Luo Rongfei investigate how Nanxi had gained entry. Upon learning she had entered through Mu Corporation and was currently serving as a project manager there coupled with Rufei’s words his rage boiled over, and he rushed over without a second thought.

She belonged to him. Even if she wanted to work, it should be at Qin Corporation, not Mu Corporation.

“Did I sell myself to you?” Nanxi retorted. “I’ve already resigned. Where I work is my own business.”

“A measly project manager position, and you’re scrambling to join Mu Corporation? Anyone would think you’re the lady boss of Mu Corporation!”

Nanxi had no interest in arguing. “Stop the car!”

“Don’t stop!”

Luo Rongfei, behind the wheel, was caught in a dilemma. Without Qin Xiaozhe’s order, he didn’t dare pull over.

“Qin Xiaozhe, have you lost your mind? We’re done. Whatever I do now is my own affair,” Nanxi argued.

But Qin Xiaozhe wouldn’t listen.

The thought of Nanxi working at Mu Corporation and appearing at the banquet in a DC haute couture gown gnawed at him. His woman didn’t need anyone else providing for her.

“Is it just because you’re jealous that I showed some concern for Rufei? Quit the project manager position. Come back to Qin Corporation, I’ll give you the role of Assistant Department Manager. Is that enough?” he said.

In his view, he had already made a significant concession. He had offered her a way out; all she had to do was take it, and he would let the matter drop.

Nanxi sneered. “You think an Assistant Department Manager is enough to placate me? I wouldn’t even want the CEO’s position if you offered it!”

“Since you’re so stubborn, let’s see how long you can keep it up.”

Once they arrived home, Qin Xiaozhe confined Nanxi to their marital bedroom.

“Let me out, Qin Xiaozhe! You’re insane! This is illegal confinement let me out!”

No matter how hard Nanxi pounded on the door, Qin Xiaozhe remained cold and indifferent outside. “I’ll let you out once you’ve come to your senses.”

Chen Ma, hearing the commotion, hurried over and tried to mediate. “Sir, perhaps it’s better to discuss this calmly with Madam. Locking her up like this could lead to trouble.”

“Keep an eye on her. Don’t let her leave. I’ll come back for her once she’s made up her mind.”

With that, Qin Xiaozhe confiscated Nanxi’s phone and left the house.

Nanxi remained confined for an entire day.

Qin Xiaozhe returned twice to check on her, but each time, Nanxi refused to yield or agree to return.

“Seems she hasn’t been hungry enough.”

Qin Xiaozhe continued to keep her locked up. The next day, he pressed her again, “Have you thought it through? I don’t have endless patience. Don’t think you’re irreplaceable, Nanxi. Without me, you’re nothing! I’m giving you a chance.”

After Qin Xiaozhe finished speaking, there was no response from inside the room.

He looked at Mama Chen. “Did she run away?”

“No.” Having known her for five years, Mama Chen felt heartbroken seeing Nanxi locked up. Gathering her courage, she tried to persuade him again, “Sir, women are meant to be cherished. How can she change her mind when you treat her like this? If you care about her, you should set boundaries with Miss Lin and live properly with your wife.”

“Enough!” Qin Xiaozhe snapped, cutting her off sharply. “Did Nanxi put you up to this!”

“No.”

“I knew she couldn’t tolerate Rufei. She’s trying to force my hand.” Qin Xiaozhe pushed the door open and stormed inside.

But the moment he saw the person collapsed on the sofa, he froze completely.
