You Are the Star I Cannot Touch - Chapter 36
Chapter 36: She Protects Her
Mù Yán looked out the window at the school field. There were students scattered here and there, and she also noticed couples. Dating in junior high; even elementary school students were doing it. She hadn’t understood back then, but now in junior high, she understood and was very curious. Watching them, she felt quite envious.
“Aren’t you going to sleep?” Gōng Yǔ Tóng came out of the bathroom, having just finished showering, her hair only half-dry.
“Does this school not care about students dating?” Mù Yán turned to see Gōng Yǔ Tóng in a white nightgown. For some reason, she felt nervous, and her heart rate sped up.
“You knew before you came what kind of students are in this school and who their families are, so naturally, they won’t interfere. As long as it doesn’t affect their studies, no teacher will intervene. The school is famous because the students here are all from wealthy and powerful families. Naturally, their families are strict about their studies, so their grades are good.”
“I see, no wonder they don’t bother you either.”
“Me? They can’t manage me.” She took milk out of the fridge, poured two glasses, and handed one to Mù Yán. “Get some rest early.” She lay down on her own bed.
Mù Yán showered and came out before drinking the milk. “Are you… not lonely being alone?”
“No,” she closed her eyes.
Mù Yán watched her, then reached out and poked her cheek, quickly withdrawing her hand, turning off the light, and going to sleep—all in one smooth motion.
Gōng Yǔ Tóng opened her eyes, not understanding why Mù Yán poked her.
Mù Yán had to wake up early for morning exercises, but Gōng Yǔ Tóng didn’t. She put on her clothes. Other students wore uniforms, but Gōng Yǔ Tóng was an exception; her uniform hadn’t arrived yet. She put on her own clothes and went downstairs.
Although Mù Yán wasn’t very skilled in fighting, Chī Yuè often made her exercise, so running wasn’t too tiring for her. The person behind her pushed her, and she fell. She scrambled up, turned around, and slapped the girl—she wouldn’t tolerate that.
“Why did you push me?” She wasn’t the type to be submissive, or she wouldn’t have left home.
“How dare you hit me?” The girl slapped her back without hesitation. “Don’t you know who you are? Why do you think you can hit me?”
Mù Yán was truly angry now. Since she was little, no one had ever hit her face. She slapped the girl twice more and also kicked her.
More students naturally sided with the other girl, and it also drew the attention of a teacher.
The homeroom teacher saw the scene. “Mù Yán, why are you hitting a classmate?”
Mù Yán looked at the teacher. “She pushed me.”
“But hitting people is wrong, isn’t it? Apologize to Xiàng Yù.”
Mù Yán had no background; she was a transfer student. Naturally, the teacher wouldn’t favor her. And staying with Gōng Yǔ Tóng didn’t mean Gōng Yǔ Tóng would care about her. After all, that girl had a cold, aloof personality—she clearly seemed heartless.
“I won’t. She was wrong first.”
“Teacher, I didn’t push her. She just fell accidentally. Isn’t falling normal? They can all testify.” Xiàng Yù opened her mouth tearfully. “Teacher.”
“Yes, yes, Xiàng Yù didn’t push Mù Yán,” the students behind her chimed in.
“You’re… slandering me, I didn’t!”
“Who saw it?” Xiàng Yù looked at her. “You’re clearly just taking advantage of Miss Gōng to run wild.”
“I saw it,” Gōng Yǔ Tóng’s cold voice rang out. The weather, which wasn’t too cold in the morning, suddenly felt like the dead of winter, making everyone shiver.
The homeroom teacher was stunned. How did she… get involved? And… he absolutely could not offend Gōng Yǔ Tóng. And why would she come to the field?
She had been reading by the window, looking out at the field, when she saw the scene, so she came down.
“There are surveillance cameras on the field, which can be checked. Teacher, not distinguishing right from wrong easily misleads students.”
“Y-yes, yes,” the homeroom teacher nodded repeatedly. “I’ll go check the surveillance footage right away.”
He feared the Gōng family behind Gōng Yǔ Tóng, but he also feared Gōng Yǔ Tóng herself. She was too cold, and her presence was highly intimidating. This fourteen-year-old girl was so formidable; she would be incredible in the future.
Mù Yán had been fine, but the moment she saw Gōng Yǔ Tóng, she instantly felt wronged. Waaah she cried, sobbing with great grievance, holding Gōng Yǔ Tóng and crying breathlessly, as if she had suffered a huge injustice.
“It hurts,” she continued to shed tears, looking pitifully at Gōng Yǔ Tóng. “My leg hurts, my knee hurts.”
Gōng Yǔ Tóng then noticed her arm; the skin was scraped. She crouched down and rolled up Mù Yán’s trouser leg. Her knee was even worse. She stood up.
Slap! Gōng Yǔ Tóng’s slap stunned everyone, even Mù Yán.
The homeroom teacher’s expression instantly soured. She was protecting Mù Yán so fiercely, even crouching down to look at her injuries. Since she was so high and mighty, he absolutely had to treat Mù Yán well from now on.
Xiàng Yù was rooted to the spot, her face full of disbelief.
Mù Yán was also stunned, then immediately looked triumphant. “Serves you right for bullying me. I have someone protecting me,” she pouted, looking particularly smug.
Gōng Yǔ Tóng looked at them, her gaze ice-cold and biting, like the dead of winter. “I don’t want there to be a next time.” She picked up Mù Yán and left.
The entire field was silenced by that one slap. From that moment on, no one dared to provoke Mù Yán, as it was the first time they had seen Gōng Yǔ Tóng lose her temper and hit someone.
Gōng Yǔ Tóng carried Mù Yán to the infirmary. The doctor dressed the wounds and gave her some medicine. She then carried her to the classroom.
Mù Yán was incredibly happy, her eyes filled with laughter. It wasn’t until two periods later that she reached out and hooked Gōng Yǔ Tóng’s ring finger. “I want to go to the bathroom.” She just looked at her, her eyes incredibly bright and watery, and her voice soft, gentle, and a little childish.
Gōng Yǔ Tóng looked at her. Pouting, this girl was charming, yet she didn’t know it herself, so her soft pleas were irresistible.
“Mhm.” Gōng Yǔ Tóng stood up, carried her to the bathroom, and watched her. “Do you need me to undress you?”
Mù Yán’s face flushed crimson, even her ears were red. “N-no… no need,” she hurriedly went into a stall.
Gōng Yǔ Tóng leaned against the wall with her legs crossed. The girls who saw her kept their distance. No matter how pretty or beautiful she was, they could only look, not approach. And today, she had hit someone. While they feared the Gōng family, they feared Gōng Yǔ Tóng herself even more. She was cold—terrifyingly cold, especially when she looked at you. It brought a sense of dread; those eyes were scarier than a ghost.
“Done,” Mù Yán came out and held her hand.
“Want a hug,” Gōng Yǔ Tóng looked at her.
“Mhm, want a hug,” she held out her arms, her eyes full of expectation.
Gōng Yǔ Tóng couldn’t refuse her and had to pick her up and carry her back to the classroom.
Mù Yán remembered something. “Why haven’t I seen Xiàng Yù these two periods?”
“She transferred schools,” Gōng Yǔ Tóng replied.
Mù Yán looked at her. “You did it?”
“Mhm. If I let her stay, she would bother you again. If she’s obedient, she’ll have an education. If not, her education will stop at junior high,” she said without emotion.
“Thank you,” Mù Yán affectionately hugged her again, not forgetting to rub her head against her, looking entirely like she was flirting.
She didn’t see the sliver of tenderness in Gōng Yǔ Tóng’s usually icy eyes.
For the next few days, Mù Yán did not go to morning exercises because Gōng Yǔ Tóng had spoken to the teacher. Also, the school rule was that students couldn’t wear skirts, but because of her leg injury, and because of Gōng Yǔ Tóng, she wore a skirt. They were the only two girls in the school wearing skirts.
