You Are My Omega - Chapter 103
There were more visitors at the house than usual today.
Ling Mian hadn’t even left yet when another group arrived. This time, it was three people. Compared to most days, today felt unusually crowded.
The visitors were from the Lin family: the family head, Madam Lin, and Lin Zhiling.
Xu Manyue immediately frowned and asked coldly, “What are you doing here?”
She found it ridiculous. She had already warned the Lin family before. Why couldn’t they stay in their place? Now they had the nerve to show up at her door in person. Did they think the Xu family wouldn’t retaliate?
The Xu family had never been known for leniency.
“Miss Xu, we’re here to ask for an explanation,” the Lin family head said, trying his best to stay composed.
“An explanation?” Xu Manyue let out a cold laugh, her eyes dark with irritation. “Do you really think your family deserves one from me?”
What gave them such boldness?
“Miss Xu, with all due respect, it was you who confirmed the DNA test. You had your people oversee the process. In the end, it was you who gave custody of Lin Xinyi to the Lin family. Legally, Lin Xinyi is still our child. If I were to take this matter to court and argue about her household registration and guardianship, the outcome would be uncertain. We’ve kept this quiet out of respect for you,” Madam Lin said firmly.
As Xu Manyue’s expression grew colder, Madam Lin paused but then continued.
“We’re not asking for much. We just hope you can step in and resolve the marriage agreement made when Lin Xinyi was a child. That’s all.”
Madam Lin knew little about business matters. During previous meetings with Xu Manyue, she had always seen her treat them respectfully, which gave her a false sense of confidence.
But that confidence was misguided.
“Come inside. We’ll talk there,” Xu Manyue said, holding back her urge to slap someone. Instead, she calmly led them into the house.
She immediately sent a message to Xu Shijiu, who responded quickly, asking her to bring the Lin family in. She said she would put Lin Xinyi to sleep first, then come downstairs to handle everything herself.
The Lin family elders were delighted by this. Thinking they were making progress, they followed quickly.
They didn’t notice that Lin Zhiling, who had been urging them outside the house to calm down and not act impulsively, had stopped walking. She stood frozen near the entrance, silently locking eyes with an Alpha across from her.
Seeing Lin Zhiling again was something Ling Mian had not expected.
After a long moment, Lin Zhiling finally spoke, her voice hesitant and strained. “What happened to you?”
Ling Mian looked away and shook her head. “It’s nothing.”
How could it possibly be nothing?
Lin Zhiling wanted to challenge her, but no words came out.
Once, pushed by her friends, Lin Zhiling had mustered all her courage and confessed her feelings to Ling Mian. It had taken every bit of strength she had when it came to love. But the response she got felt like a cruel joke.
Even now, she couldn’t forget the expression on Ling Mian’s face that day as she laughed and said, “Did you lose a game of truth or dare? I already like someone. Maybe don’t pick me for these games next time.”
What Lin Zhiling had carefully thought through for many nights, what had taken all her courage, had meant nothing to Ling Mian. Her cheerful tone had felt like ridicule, making her feel foolish and small.
Even after that, Lin Zhiling had managed to hold herself together. But now, after only a few days, Ling Mian looked completely defeated.
“I have things to take care of. I’m leaving now,” Ling Mian said flatly.
“…Alright,” Lin Zhiling stepped aside.
Without hesitation, Ling Mian walked past her. She didn’t pause or look back, her steps steady and without a trace of doubt.
Missing each other was probably the best outcome for them both.
Lin Zhiling stayed where she was, watching Ling Mian walk farther and farther away until she got into the car and it pulled away from the curb. Only when the car disappeared from sight did she lower her gaze.
She didn’t know that this would be the last time Ling Mian appeared in her life.
Inside the car, Ling Mian glanced at herself in the rearview mirror. Her reflection made a wave of sadness and bitterness rise in her chest.
So this was the image she had left behind for Lin Zhiling: tired, pale, and miserable.
If she had known it would end like this, she would have declined Xu Manyue’s invitation and left earlier. At least that way, she wouldn’t have had to see Lin Zhiling. She wouldn’t have left behind such a pitiful memory in someone’s heart.
Lin Xinyi had no idea the Lin family had shown up at the house. At six months pregnant, her belly had grown significantly. Whether she was doing something or nothing, her back ached and her whole body felt sore. At night, the baby kept her awake, so she napped during the day to catch up on rest.
“Did something happen?” Lin Xinyi asked. She had seen how Xu Shijiu’s expression changed after reading a message on her phone.
“Yes. Something came up that I need to deal with,” Xu Shijiu said honestly, though she didn’t explain further.
“Then go handle it. You don’t have to stay with me all the time,” Lin Xinyi said gently.
She wasn’t exaggerating. It was just the truth.
Ever since Xu Shijiu found out about the pregnancy, ever since they got married, she had never left Lin Xinyi’s side. Not even once.
If there was work, she brought Lin Xinyi with her to the company. If Lin Xinyi and Liu Lingyan had meetings with retired directors, she went along too.
They had been teased more than once for being like conjoined twins.
“It’s alright. I’m not in a hurry. I’ll wait until you’re asleep before I go,” Xu Shijiu replied with a smile. She had no problem making the Lin family wait a little longer.
“Then hold me for a while,” Lin Xinyi said softly, her tone playful and affectionate. She didn’t protest her decision at all. She was used to how Xu Shijiu always put her first and knew that no amount of persuasion would change her mind.
“Of course. I’ll hold you from behind,” Xu Shijiu said with a loving smile. She lay down and wrapped her arms gently around Lin Xinyi’s back.
“Your belly is so big now. We can’t even hug face to face anymore.”
Xu Shijiu heard the little hint of disappointment in her voice. She kissed her cheek and whispered, “Once the baby is born, we’ll be able to hug properly again.”
“But that won’t be for a long time…”
“Getting impatient already?”
“No. It’s better for her to stay in longer. It helps with her development.”
“Alright now, Mama needs to sleep. The baby’s been active lately, and by tonight she’ll be up and moving again. You won’t get any sleep then.”
Xu Shijiu’s eyes filled with a trace of pain. The baby was far from obedient. Ever since there had been fetal movement, the baby became active at the same time every night, making it nearly impossible for Lin Xinyi to get any real rest.
Lin Xinyi was already tired. She held Xu Shijiu’s hand and, listening to her soft humming, quickly drifted off into a deep sleep.
Xu Shijiu didn’t leave right away. She waited until Lin Xinyi was completely asleep before quietly slipping out of the room.
When she went downstairs, the Lin family head and Madam Lin had already been waiting for who knows how long. Both looked uneasy, shifting in their seats. Meanwhile, Xu Manyue had kept her eyes on the television the entire time, ignoring anything they tried to say. Lin Zhiling didn’t bother with the TV either; she just seemed lost in thought, staring into space.
“What a rare visit,” Xu Shijiu said calmly as she walked over and sat beside her sister, taking a seat across from the Lin family.
“Miss Xu…” the Lin patriarch began, clearly uneasy. The moment Xu Shijiu appeared, he understood that the Xu family had been waiting specifically for her to arrive and handle the matter.
The atmosphere made that very clear.
Lin Zhiling snapped out of her daze. She gave Xu Shijiu a small nod as a greeting, her eyes full of guilt.
Xu Shijiu completely ignored the gesture. Her gaze was cold, emotionless, almost like ice.
“You’ve come all the way here. What is it you want?” Xu Shijiu asked, clearly already knowing the answer but pressing for it anyway.
The Lin patriarch didn’t stop Madam Lin from launching into another loud complaint, insisting that the Xu family needed to step in and resolve the matter on their behalf.
Xu Shijiu listened without blinking, her expression unreadable. Only when Madam Lin finally quieted down did she suddenly slap a folder onto the table.
“And this is…?” the Lin patriarch asked cautiously. He had a bad feeling in his gut, and cold sweat had already started forming on his forehead.
“This is the original marriage agreement you keep talking about,” Xu Shijiu replied sharply. Her eyes were filled with disdain. “You keep insisting that the Alpha involved is tied to my Omega through some childhood engagement. Since words mean nothing, I had someone retrieve the original copy. Would you like me to open it for you?”
Madam Lin didn’t believe it. The Alpha’s family had claimed that the original document was long lost.
But when it was opened, the truth became undeniable.
The name written in the Omega column of the engagement agreement was…
Lin Zhiling.
“This can’t be true. You must have faked this!” Madam Lin shouted. She refused to accept what she was seeing.
Because if she did, it would mean her daughter was the one meant to marry that Alpha. There was no way she would ever admit that.
“The seals on this document are the private stamps of both families. They’re not something anyone can fake. If you still don’t believe it, we can call in a forensic examiner to verify everything,” Xu Shijiu said. She was barely holding on to her composure, trying not to shatter the teacup in her hand.
Lin Xinyi was resting in the first-floor bedroom. Though the room was soundproofed, Xu Shijiu still worried that if she lost control and raised her voice, it might wake her.
Lin Xinyi finally had a chance to sleep peacefully. She didn’t want to ruin that.
“This can’t be. Say something, will you?” Madam Lin turned to her husband in desperation, but the Lin family head couldn’t say a word.
There was no way an outsider could have obtained those family seals, let alone forged them. Both of them knew the document was real. Arguing now would only make the Xu family even angrier.
“Miss Xu, Miss Shijiu, we’re terribly sorry. We made a mistake. We won’t bother you again. Could we just pretend this visit never happened…”
Lin Zhiling could no longer watch or listen to any of it.
If her parents hadn’t made such a scene, things between her and Lin Xinyi might never have become so awkward in the first place.
