Yet, This Evil God Only Knows How to Draw Cards - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
If Su Ye had previously been floating on cloud nine under Tonatiuh’s petting to the point of nearly wagging his tail, then right now, he felt as if a bucket of ice-cold water had been poured over his head in the dead of winter.
Chilled to the bone, his spirit went flying.
Seeing the cub in his arms—who had been well-behaved and adorable just a moment ago—suddenly bristle all over, Tonatiuh immediately showed a look of concern.
He lowered his eyes to look at Su Ye, rubbing his belly with one hand and then scratching his chin.
“What’s wrong?” Tonatiuh asked softly. “Did I startle you just now?”
Su Ye wagged his tail.
While he was indeed startled by Tonatiuh’s words, the source of his shock was perhaps quite a billion bits different from what Tonatiuh imagined…
But it had to be said, sitting in Tonatiuh’s embrace, Su Ye had begun to feel a bit restless.
Looking at the cub in his arms, Tonatiuh found himself in a slight predicament.
As Shuloel had said, he had obtained this egg a long, long time ago—so long that he could barely remember.
The moment he obtained this egg, Tonatiuh knew that this child would be his successor—the “Sun” who would one day inherit all his status and authority to open the next era.
Tonatiuh looked forward to that day with all his heart and had imagined countless times how he should teach this child.
Teach him responsibility, teach him justice, teach him growth.
Teach him power, teach him to balance grace with authority, and teach him how to become the “Sun” for all humans and gods. Just as the previous “Sun” had done, he would carefully nurture and guide the newborn cub; such was the transition and inheritance between deities.
However… this egg showed no signs of hatching for the longest time. Countless “millennia” passed, until even Tonatiuh himself had lost hope that the egg would ever hatch.
Today, upon hearing that Shuloel had actually stolen this egg from his palace, Tonatiuh—who was originally away—immediately rushed back. Even if it truly were a dead egg, it once possessed the qualification to become the “Sun,” and Tonatiuh could not allow it to be insulted in Shuloel’s hands.
Who knew he would receive such a massive surprise? When Tonatiuh held Su Ye in his arms, no one knew that his arms were actually trembling slightly.
This was… his successor. The next “Sun.”
Despite the fact that Tonatiuh and Su Ye shared no biological relation in essence, at this moment, Tonatiuh still felt the deep satisfaction of a man having a son in his old age.
Precisely because of this, the Lord of Gods and “Sun” of the Fifth Epoch—who usually appeared gentle but never hesitated in matters of life and death—felt a stiffness as if his limbs didn’t belong to him while holding Su Ye.
Don’t be fooled by how Su Ye was immersed in Tonatiuh’s superb petting skills. Only Tonatiuh knew that he had practiced this single motion for several thousand years.
The furry mythological creatures kept at the entrance of the Sun God’s Palace, who had suffered as Tonatiuh’s experimental subjects and nearly went bald, all felt they had a word to say.
And now was no different.
No matter what, Tonatiuh intended to settle the score with Shuloel. But he was worried that Su Ye would be frightened, so he did not intend for him to witness the scene.
Thus, Su Ye saw Tonatiuh draw a circle in the air with his free hand, and an incredibly dazzling light burst forth from that circle. The center of the circle gradually blurred, looking like a passage to somewhere else.
Tonatiuh placed Su Ye inside this circle, lowered his head, and gently kissed his pink little nose.
“Wait for me for a bit; I need to handle some matters here first.” He showed a smile that couldn’t be more gentle toward Su Ye. “I’ll be back very soon.”
The portal closed.
Su Ye felt a flash of white light before his eyes, and then he appeared in a magnificent, grand, and splendid palace.
However, right now, neither the beautiful, crystal-carved, nearly transparent flora nor the sparkling springs that seemed to mingle with golden sunlight—not even the palm-sized fairies flying in the air—could attract Su Ye’s gaze.
His mind was filled only with Tonatiuh’s handsome face, which had been infinitely magnified before him just now, and that hint of warmth and moisture that seemed to linger on the tip of his nose.
…Ahhhhhhhh!
If he were in human form rather than an animal’s right now, Su Ye thought his face would surely be as red as a ripe tomato.
How, how did…! This was far too intimate!
Su Ye’s fur bristled all over, looking from a distance like an overly fluffy ball of wool. He buried his face into his long tail, as if he could ignore everything that had happened like an ostrich burying its head in the sand.
Before Su Ye could smother himself in his own fluff, another voice appeared by his ear.
“Little Highness, you must be the Little Highness!” the voice said cheerfully. “I am the God of Atmosphere, Soka. I have been ordered by Lord Tonatiuh to come and take care of you.”
Su Ye raised his head from his tail.
Standing before him was a gray-haired, blue-eyed deity, currently looking at him with a kind and bright smile. Those blue eyes were like a clear, cloudless, and boundless sky.
Su Ye repeated hesitantly: “Little Highness?”
Is he calling me?
The youth’s smile deepened. He didn’t seem to care that Su Ye currently looked no bigger than a kitten; he knelt on one knee, trying to keep his gaze level with Su Ye’s.
“Yes. You were brought back by Lord Tonatiuh, and you are destined to take over the authority of the ‘Sun’ in the future, becoming our master—and even the master of the world.”
Su Ye: .
It would have been better if the other hadn’t mentioned that. Now that he had, Su Ye couldn’t sit still.
Because he knew his own situation best. Although Su Ye still hadn’t figured out what his ability as a deity was, one thing was certain: he was definitely an Evil God! A textbook Evil God! He didn’t have a shred of connection with a Righteous God like the Sun!
If it were discovered that he wasn’t actually the Sun, would Tonatiuh stop providing him with sanctuary and protection? Would he have to go back to Shuloel’s oil pan?
Just thinking about this made the fur on Su Ye’s tail stand on end.
No way, absolutely not! Having finally gained a second life—and as a deity no less—how could he accept this life ending so haphazardly?!
Su Ye flicked his tail and started tentatively asking Soka: “The ‘Sun’?”
In the memories he received at birth, there was no information related to this, so it should be okay to ask, right?
Fortunately, Su Ye’s guess was correct. Soka didn’t become suspicious because of Su Ye’s question. Instead, he patiently explained the situation.
—Just as Su Ye had previously learned, this was a world with deities.
And among all deities, the Sun was the most noble and dazzling existence—the King of Gods. Whether it was the Righteous Gods above the heavens or the Evil Gods beneath the earth, all acted according to the orders of the Sun. He also possessed the largest following among humans.
The world had been born anew four times and destroyed four times. In each new epoch, a new Sun would be born.
Until the next era and epoch arrived, the world would move forward under the illumination and guidance of the Sun.
“And Lord Tonatiuh is the ‘Sun’ of the Fifth Epoch.” Soka announced in a slightly proud tone. “He is our most respected King.”
“Ah, right—”
Perhaps because his appearance was that of a youth, Soka’s demeanor wasn’t like a deity who had lived for thousands of years. Instead, he was as light and lively as a real teenager.
He reached out both hands, grabbed Su Ye under the armpits, and held him up high.
“Little Highness, won’t you transform into human form? Or do you prefer your mythological form?” Soka’s voice sounded a bit excited at this point. “In that case, I’ll personally make a cat bed for you… no, please allow me to personally build a residence for your rest!”
Su Ye’s gaze was very subtle.
You just said it, didn’t you? You just said your true inner thoughts out loud, didn’t you? You really are treating me like a cat, aren’t you?!
“No need.” Su Ye decisively rejected Soka’s proposal. “Just arrange a normal sleeping palace for me.”
“Ah, okay.” Soka looked quite disappointed.
Su Ye paused, and paused again, before finally unable to resist asking: “How do I… transform into human form?”
Soka didn’t expect him to ask such a question; this should have been an instinct flowing through every deity’s body that they knew without being taught. But his personality was the carefree type, so he didn’t suspect Su Ye’s question. Instead, he said seriously: “You imagine the power in your body extending outward, first go ‘bang!’, and then ‘poof-poof’ and stretch it out!”
Su Ye: …Do you hear yourself? Is that even human language?
But since things had come to this, Su Ye could only force himself to try as Soka said.
First “bang,” then “poof-poof”…
Su Ye originally thought this was just a nonsensical description, but when he imagined doing so in his mind, a strange warm current actually spread through his body.
Immediately following that, suddenly and without warning, Su Ye realized his eye level had heightened in an instant.
He turned his head and saw his reflection in the crystal-clear trees nearby.
The youth had long silver hair and purple pupils. Beneath his right eyelid were three diamond-shaped patterns of the same color as his eyes, arranged in sequence. From his hair emerged feathered ears like a bird’s wings.
He wore a black-purple wide-brimmed top hat, with a cluster of blue flowers, purple gemstones, and decorations like butterfly wings on one side. He was dressed in clothing combining blue, purple, and black, with cuffed long boots that completely covered his calves.
“…” Su Ye closed his eyes once, then twice.
This was a face overflowing with wicked aura to the point that Su Ye’s own heart skipped a beat upon seeing it. No matter how you looked at it, it had zero connection to a Righteous God. Instead, it was the textbook appearance an Evil God should have.
“Soka,” Su Ye asked sincerely, “if Tonatiuh sees me like this, will he really not throw me into the Evil God’s Domain immediately?”
The Evil God’s Domain was the gathering place beneath the earth where Evil Gods usually stayed and resided.
“What are you saying?” Facing Su Ye’s question, Soka showed very obvious shock. “How could Lord Tonatiuh do that?”
“Little Highness, although the time I’ve spent serving by Lord Tonatiuh’s side isn’t very long, it’s been several thousand years. I have witnessed with my own eyes how much Lord Tonatiuh looked forward to your birth and arrival.”
He said to Su Ye very seriously: “If Lord Tonatiuh is the ‘Sun’ of the Fifth Epoch, then to him, you are his ‘Sun’.”
Soka said this to comfort Su Ye and tell him not to be nervous, but little did he know that after hearing these words, Su Ye became even more anxious.
You’ve said it well, but please stop talking.
Because the premise for everything you said is that I’m actually a deity of the ‘Sun’—ahhhhhhh!
