- Wife, Are You an Alpha Pretending to be an Omega?
- Chapter 19 - Extra 3: Permanent Marking (Part 1)
The permanent marking between Wei Xia and Xie Jingyu occurred much later than anyone would have imagined.
It was only during the first year after their marriage that Xie Jingyu gradually began to understand intimacy in depth. When he found out about the concept of permanent marking, he was shocked for a very long time.
The books stated that permanent marking carried a 99% probability of pregnancy.
Pregnancy.
For the first twenty-odd years of Xie Jingyu’s life, he had never been able to associate this word with himself. Therefore, when he realized that he was actually capable of conceiving, Xie Jingyu was completely dazed for a full half hour.
Afterward, he contacted his private physician, who was the third person in the world to know that he was an Omega.
The doctor replied, “Years of regular suppressor injections have caused a delay in the developmental functions of your glands. Becoming pregnant and giving birth will be more difficult for you than for an average person, but theoretically, it is possible.”
Theoretically, it is possible.
Xie Jingyu stared at this single sentence for another half hour.
He directed a question to the doctor, “Is a permanent mark different from a temporary mark?”
The doctor replied within seconds, seemingly long accustomed to the grand president’s ignorance regarding biological matters, and did not show any signs of exasperation.
“It is different. A temporary mark can be completed solely through the glands, but a permanent mark requires opening the reproductive cavity.”
The reproductive cavity.
This was yet another massive blind spot in Xie Jingyu’s knowledge.
However, he did not ask about it this time. Instead, he searched for it online.
It would have been better if he had not searched at all, because the moment he did, he felt his entire world view take a massive hit. How could he have lived all this time without knowing he possessed such an organ?
Phrases like “opening the reproductive cavity” and “forming a knot inside the cavity” flashed across his screen. How exactly was it opened? How was a knot formed?
Xie Jingyu fell into a state of deep self-doubt.
Even when Wei Xia returned home, he felt too embarrassed to bring the matter up.
Perhaps Wei Xia did not know about it either. Yes, that must be it. Wei Xia was his first love, and he was Wei Xia’s first love as well. Wei Xia had never dated anyone else before, so where would he have learned about these things?
Xie Jingyu convinced himself with this reasoning, and consequently, he never asked Wei Xia about it.
Just like that, another year passed.
Normally, Xie Jingyu would occasionally have to go on business trips. Whenever he was about to leave, Wei Xia would deepen the mark on him, explaining that as time passed, the mark would fade. Wei Xia did not want his own mark to disappear from Xie Jingyu’s body, so he always urged him to return as early as possible.
Xie Jingyu had always believed this was just Wei Xia acting spoiled to coax him into an early return, until one day, he could not resist asking a casual question.
“Is there no way to settle this once and for all?”
He had merely spoken on a whim, but the very instant the words left his mouth, he felt Wei Xia’s entire body stiffen for a brief moment. This caused Xie Jingyu’s sensitive nature to detect that something was amiss. Consequently, he checked online, and sure enough, after a permanent marking, temporary marks were no longer needed. The two individuals would be permanently branded with each other’s imprint until death.
Xie Jingyu pondered deeply for a long time. He suddenly realized that Wei Xia might have known about the existence of permanent marking all along.
But why did Wei Xia not permanently mark him?
It would be understandable if he was afraid of pregnancy, but why had he never even mentioned it?
Given the momentum of Wei Xia’s sweet words at that time, Xie Jingyu had heard things far more face-flushing and heart-racing than this. Why then had Wei Xia never made a single joke regarding pregnancy?
A knot formed in Xie Jingyu’s heart.
This was no longer a question of whether he wanted to give birth or not; it was a matter of Wei Xia’s attitude. As a married couple, why did Wei Xia never discuss this aspect with him?
Was it because Wei Xia did not want to have a child with him?
When Xie Jingyu came to this realization, his heart ached terribly. He turned his head to look at Wei Xia’s peaceful and beautiful sleeping face, but he could not control his rising anger and pushed the man away with a sharp shove.
Sensing his partner pulling away from his embrace, Wei Xia instinctively reached out with his arm and hauled him back, locking him in a tight grip that made escape utterly impossible.
Wei Xia mumbled in his sleep, “Jingyu, let us sleep.”
Xie Jingyu was left speechless.
What on earth was the reason?
Another two months passed by.
Xie Ci returned to the country. He had still failed to graduate, but Xie Hai’s lineage could no longer stir up any trouble within the Xie Corporation. Moreover, Xie Ci brought a child back with him this time. A foreign Omega had given birth to the child during his time studying abroad.
Xie Hai was nearly driven to death by anger, but a grandson was still a grandson. Xie Hai approached Xie Jingyu, begging to allow that brat Xie Ci to bring his grandson back, and Xie Jingyu granted permission.
Today was the one-year-old banquet for Xie Ci’s son. An invitation had been delivered to Xie Jingyu, though no one had actually expected him to show up.
He arrived together with Wei Xia, catching sight of the rumored eldest grandson of the Xie family born to the foreign Omega.
The little fellow had blonde hair and blue eyes, carrying half of the foreigner’s bloodline, but the structure of his facial features strongly resembled Xie Ci. He babbled as he tried to mimic human speech, looking incredibly adorable while surrounded by everyone like stars cupping the moon. Xie Jingyu could tell that Xie Hai and Ruan Zhi cherished this grandson immensely.
Indeed, the child was far more likable than his father.
“Yaya!”
As Xie Jingyu sat to one side, he suddenly noticed the little thing crawling toward him.
The child tossed the toy in his hand away with a clatter and hugged Xie Jingyu’s lower leg.
Xie Hai and Ruan Zhi instantly felt somewhat awkward, deeply fearing that they would arouse Xie Jingyu’s annoyance. They made a move to pick the child up immediately, but to the utter shock of everyone present, Xie Jingyu lifted the child into his own arms.
The entire venue fell into a stunned silence.
Xie Jingyu did not know how to hold a child, yet his movements were extremely gentle. Even after picking the boy up, his face remained a deadpan mask that concealed all joy or anger as he asked, “What is his name?”
Xie Hai looked as though he was facing a formidable enemy. “That, well, that is…”
Xie Jingyu cast a glance at him.
“His name is Xie Qiu!”
In reality, the little fellow had not been officially named yet. This name was given by Xie Ci, who had personally left the child the very next day to chase after his wife abroad. It was said that the little fellow’s Omega mother had a Chinese name meaning autumn, but it was clear that Xie Hai and Ruan Zhi had not agreed to it yet.
In the next second, Xie Jingyu spoke, “Qiuqiu.”
The little fellow giggled and laughed merrily in his arms.
Xie Hai, Ruan Zhi, and Wei Xia were all left utterly speechless.
Xie Jingyu turned his head to Wei Xia and asked, “Is he cute?”
Xie Jingyu had been throwing a tantrum and giving him the cold shoulder recently, so this was one of the very few times he had initiated a conversation. Wei Xia sat on pins and needles, answering instantly, “He is cute!”
Xie Jingyu said, “You hold him.”
Wei Xia complied. He took the child from Xie Jingyu’s arms with movements that were much more practiced. He kept observing Xie Jingyu’s expression, completely unable to read it.
Xie Jingyu observed the way Wei Xia held the child, noting that the little fellow was visibly more comfortable in his embrace. The nameless fire burning in his heart flared up even more fiercely.
What did this mean? He liked children?
But he did not plan on having one with him?
Then who did he plan on having one with?
Xie Jingyu let out a cold laugh.
Xie Hai and Ruan Zhi shuddered instantly, forcing themselves to appear composed as they took the child back from Wei Xia’s hands.
In an instant, Wei Xia sat up even straighter.
The surrounding people immediately laughed and dispersed, leaving the two of them alone at this moment.
Wei Xia approached his partner’s side in a pleasing manner, nudging his head against the man’s chest.
“Jingyu…”
Xie Jingyu turned his back completely.
Wei Xia thought to himself that it was a disaster. How could he fail to coax him down this time? He felt a bit at a loss, leaning forward to hug the man tightly, refusing to let go even if it meant death.
“Jingyu!”
“If you have someone else, you can tell me directly.”
Wei Xia was stunned on the spot.
It was only when he detected a sob in the tone of the person in his arms that he immediately turned the man around to face him, embracing him tightly from the front.
“What kind of talk is that?!”
The corners of Xie Jingyu’s eyes carried a trace of redness, his gaze filled with dissatisfaction and an unspeakable sense of grievance.
Wei Xia spoke frantically without thinking, “If I ever cheat on you, may Heaven strike me down with five bolts of thunder, and may I never be reincarnated. May I be hit and crushed by a car the moment I step outside today, leaving me so shattered that the forensic doctors cannot even piece me back together.”
“Jingyu, why would you say such a thing?” Wei Xia was practically dying of anxiety. “I really do not have anyone else. You have been avoiding intimacy with me lately. I even thought… Jingyu, you clearly know how important you are to me. Do not scare me, I beg of you.”
He understood Xie Jingyu’s personality. Xie Jingyu would never say such words unless he had been feeling aggrieved for a long time. The emotions had been blocked up and brewing inside his heart for a very long period, and it was all his own fault. He had noticed Jingyu’s abnormality very early on, but he had never dared to ask about it proactively.
Because he was afraid.
He was afraid that there would be a day when Jingyu grew tired of him, a day when the thought of ending their relationship would arise. He preferred to deceive himself.
Xie Jingyu stared into his eyes for a long time, but he could not detect anything amiss at all. During these past two months, his mind had thought about a great many things, imagining countless endings, yet he could not comprehend the panic in Wei Xia’s eyes.
So, what exactly was the reason?
“Why do you not want to have a child with me?”
This time, it was Wei Xia’s turn to be utterly bewildered.
“Ah?”
