- Wife, Are You an Alpha Pretending to be an Omega?
- Chapter 18 - Extra 2: Love at First Sight
Wei Xia had liked Xie Jingyu for a very, very, very, very long time.
Yet Xie Jingyu did not find out about this until the third year of their marriage.
It all started when Wei Xia went to teach a class, and Xie Jingyu took it upon himself to do some house cleaning. As a result, he ended up uncovering two identical crystal balls in the bedroom.
One was a gift Wei Xia had given him on their first wedding anniversary.
The other was a birthday present for Xie Jingyu’s fifteenth birthday.
When the two crystal balls were placed together, they matched each other in an indescribably perfect way.
Xie Jingyu frowned in confusion, and then he noticed a notebook pressed underneath them.
On the very first page he opened, it read:
“When will my husband finally notice me?”
Below it was a crying emoticon face.
Xie Jingyu let out a chuckle, and then, suppressing the answer that was already bursting in his heart, he quickly flipped through the pages that followed.
The notebook was quite old, and the handwriting inside was awkward and immature. It was truly difficult to connect it to the current Professor Wei, but Xie Jingyu knew that this was written by Wei Xia.
To be more precise, this was a secret crush journal.
It was Xie Jingyu’s fifteenth birthday banquet.
At that time, Xie Jingyu had already lost both of his parents and was still young. The so-called celebration of his fifteenth birthday was merely a tool for Xie Hai to conduct business networking. As the birthday boy himself, Xie Jingyu was not important at all.
Xie Jingyu remembered it now. He had found the banquet hypocritical at the time, so he had gone out to the garden to clear his head.
As it happened, that was the very first time Wei Xia’s mother had brought Wei Xia along to make a scene looking for Wei Zhian.
While Wei Xia’s mother was making a scene inside the banquet, Wei Xia had been left outside, and naturally, he became a target for bullying.
Children in their early teens had not yet differentiated their secondary genders. Wei Xia was very thin and small, and his clothes were not refined enough. However, his face was extremely cute, and he was surrounded on the ground by several children who were bullying him.
“My dad said it is all your fault. You are an embarrassment, and you interrupted them while they were discussing business.”
“Exactly, exactly. My mom told me that we hate people like you the most. You are an illegitimate child, and you will grow up to fight us for the property.”
“Why haven’t you gotten lost yet? Does someone with your status deserve to come to the birthday banquet of the eldest young master of the Xie Group?!”
“Who doesn’t deserve it?”
The young Xie Jingyu spoke up at the right moment, stepping out from the shadows.
He was very young, but he already possessed a somewhat mature demeanor. The teenager’s face was full of seriousness and earnestness as he spoke again: “Who doesn’t deserve to come to my birthday banquet?”
The group of children was intimidated and immediately left to run back to their parents.
Xie Jingyu walked over and extended a hand to the dirty child.
“Whose family do you belong to?”
Wei Xia did not dare to speak. He grasped the hand and stood up, standing a full head shorter than the incredibly good-looking older brother in front of him.
“Why aren’t you speaking?” Xie Jingyu asked again.
The child was dirty but very beautiful. Unlike those noisy children who only knew how to complain and argue, he was well-behaved, looking up at him with bright eyes. Xie Jingyu had liked him from the very first moment he saw him.
The beautiful child wiped his hands on his clothes. Hearing what the group of people had just said, he realized that this handsome older brother was the protagonist of today’s birthday.
He knew exactly what his mother had come here to do, so his heart felt even more guilty. He did not want to ruin the handsome older brother’s birthday.
Xie Jingyu felt puzzled, and then he watched the child fumble around inside his backpack for a long time before pulling out a crystal ball. The child said:
“Happy birthday, handsome older brother. This is for you.”
Xie Jingyu accepted the novel trinket in a daze.
Crystal balls were very popular during that era, but Xie Jingyu had never seen one before.
Inside the glass-like little orb filled with water, happy little figurines were dancing. As it was shaken, snow-white flakes drifted down from the sky, creating a snowy atmosphere.
He had received so many birthday gifts, yet this was the only one given truly to himself.
The only birthday gift meant just for Xie Jingyu.
“Is this for me?”
The boy spoke coldly, but the tips of his ears turned red.
Wei Xia nodded and smiled, “Mhm, mhm!”
Xie Jingyu’s hand tightened around the crystal ball over and over again before he finally said, “Thank you.”
“By the way, what is your name?”
Before he could finish his sentence, a woman who seemed to have lost her mind ran out, crying as she ran. She scooped up the beautiful child in her arms and was escorted out by the security guards.
“Wait.” A hand landed on Xie Jingyu’s shoulder, and it was Xie Hai.
“Jingyu, why are you out here? There are so many people inside waiting for you to cut the cake.”
Xie Jingyu’s expression returned to calm. He slipped the crystal ball into his pocket and said coldly, “Who were those people?”
Xie Hai snorted, “Hmph! Just some low-class embarrassments. Jingyu, come quickly.”
“Oh.”
He withdrew his curious gaze. Like a walking corpse, he turned around and stepped back into his birthday banquet.
Amidst the clinking of glasses, only the crystal ball in his pocket was kept warm by his body temperature.
Xie Jingyu suddenly snapped out of his thoughts, completely remembering the whole incident.
This crystal ball was given to him by Wei Xia.
The first half of the notebook was filled with crooked handwriting detailing the childhood experience of meeting Xie Jingyu. That was the first time Wei Xia had ever felt protected. Even if it was a bit of a stretch, he just knew that the Xie Jingyu of that time was cold on the outside but kind on the inside, and he was protecting him.
The second half belonged to Wei Xia during his university years, when he found out that the person he was marrying was Xie Jingyu, filling his heart and eyes with pleasant surprise.
“I really dare not imagine that I would actually get to marry Jingyu in this lifetime.”
“Will he look down on me for being an Alpha?”
“Jingyu said he has a lover. Sigh, forget it. Have you forgotten your original intention? Being able to live under the same roof with Jingyu is already like winning the lottery. Do not be insatiable.”
“I really want to cut out my gland. If I were a Beta, would there be a possibility for Jingyu to accept me?”
“A greedy snake tries to swallow an elephant. But I really love him so much. Will he ever fall in love with me? Even if there is only a one in a thousand chance…”
“Jingyu actually confessed to me! I must be dreaming.”
“Jingyu turns out to be… I, I,” there was a blotch of ink.
“I have no regrets in this life.”
As he read through the journal, Xie Jingyu’s tears fell like a string of broken pearls, pattering down onto the notebook and smudging the ink. He tried to wipe it away in a panic, but the more he wiped, the messier it became.
At this moment, the door lock clicked, and Wei Xia returned home from work.
The scene Wei Xia witnessed was Xie Jingyu looking up at him with red-rimmed eyes. Those eyes were filled with an indescribable mix of emotions, and as Wei Xia looked down, he saw his own notebook.
He froze for a moment, instantly becoming a bit helpless and flustered. He had not expected that Xie Jingyu would actually discover it.
Tossing his coat aside carelessly, he stepped forward to embrace his lover, gently dropping a kiss upon the tears.
“Don’t read it anymore, let’s not look at it anymore. Why are you crying, husband?”
Whenever Wei Xia coaxed him, he would call Xie Jingyu his husband.
Xie Jingyu said, “You liar.”
Wei Xia’s back stiffened for a fraction of a second, revealing his insecurity, but then he immediately held Xie Jingyu even tighter. He buried his head into his lover’s neck, whispering repeatedly, “I didn’t lie to you. It is too late to regret it now. You are not allowed to go back on your word, you are not allowed…”
Xie Jingyu broke free from his embrace and met his gaze, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“If I hadn’t fallen for you, if I really had a lover, if I…”
If I really intended to get a divorce after some time, wouldn’t we have missed each other completely?
The moment his thoughts reached this point, Xie Jingyu’s heart felt as though it were being cut by a knife. He could hardly imagine what kind of painful, struggling state of mind Wei Xia must have been in during that period while facing his cold indifference.
Why didn’t you say anything?
Xie Jingyu’s tears flowed silently like a bursting dam, drop by drop, completely unstoppable.
Wei Xia completely lost his composure. Xie Jingyu had never cried before. Even if he did cry, it was only in bed when he was pushed to his limits by Wei Xia’s wicked sense of humor. This was the first time he had ever shed so many tears.
“I, I…” Wei Xia flusteredly wiped the tears away, truly frightened now.
Then, he quickly captured another layer of meaning.
“Wait, Jingyu, what do you mean by ‘if you really had a lover’?”
Wei Xia asked blankly, looking like a fool.
A faint suspicion surfaced, but he did not dare to uncover it, too afraid that he would be celebrating for nothing. Thus, he grew tense to the extreme, waiting for Xie Jingyu to deliver the final verdict.
He had no idea how pale his own face looked.
Xie Jingyu’s heart melted into a pool of water. He took the initiative to embrace Wei Xia, giving his lover a deep kiss, proactive and burning with passion.
As the kiss ended, their lips and teeth remained intertwined:
“I have never had any lover whom I liked for a long time. That was just an excuse to hide my gender. The subsequent so-called breakup wasn’t real either. It was only because I realized that I seemed to have fallen in love with you.”
“Wei Xia, listen to me. I have only ever liked you, and you alone.”
“When we were little, now, and in the future.”
“I only like you.”
Wei Xia froze for a very long time, and finally, tears fell from his eyes in sheer disbelief.
“Jingyu, what can I possibly say…?”
What can I say to express the surging waves of my love at this moment?
“Then don’t say anything.”
Xie Jingyu’s tears dripped onto his lover’s hand as he took the initiative to strike for the first time. The torrential love was like a tide, determined to submerge them both.
He was only bold this one time, and the words he spoke were bound to lack careful consideration, but by the time he regretted it, it was already too late.
His lover’s beautiful eyebrows knitted together, showing an expression of endurance, knowing exactly how to please him. Thus, he allowed himself to lose all his strength, leaving himself at the mercy of the rising and falling sea and the endless waves.
Responding to him was nothing but the resonance from the depths of his soul.
