Wife, Are You an Alpha Pretending to be an Omega? - Chapter 1
Xie Jingyu was getting married. However, it was not a union of mutual affection or a long-awaited romance reaching fruition; it was a transaction cloaked in the guise of a family alliance.
Worse still, he was an Omega masquerading as an Alpha, destined to never provide happiness to his Omega wife.
Originally, Xie Jingyu intended to refuse the marriage. That was until he saw Wei Xia at the banquet, cramped, ridiculed, and broken.
Wei Xia was the illegitimate son of the Wei family. True to his name, he was fair-skinned and arguably beautiful, possessing a bright, summery charm that earned instant favor from anyone who looked at him. At that moment, his brows were slightly furrowed, and the vulnerability and sadness in his eyes made him look like a small white rabbit hunted by wolves. Seeing him, Xie Jingyu felt a sudden surge of compassion.
“So, his life is that difficult,” Xie Jingyu thought.
The playful voices of those around him chimed in: “Yo, Jingyu, isn’t that your blind date? What do you think?”
The group burst into laughter. Not far away, Wei Xia’s face flushed with embarrassment. He glanced toward them, his eyes meeting Xie Jingyu’s.
Xie Jingyu frowned. “What are they doing?”
“You don’t know? Wei Xia is the Wei family’s illegitimate son. They brought him back five years ago, but word is the kid has some backbone and refused to acknowledge his roots. Not sure what happened recently, but he’s finally willing to return. The eldest Wei son is taking every chance to humiliate him in front of a crowd. Master Xie, it seems you aren’t paying much attention to your fiancé either.”
Those seated around were the young masters and ladies of this social circle. For people of their status, the prejudice and taboo surrounding illegitimate children were significant, so their tone was naturally mocking and full of banter.
In their eyes, the Wei family acknowledging him was a supreme act of grace. The rumors that he was playing hard to get were seen merely as a tactic to gain more leverage. How could someone like Xie Jingyu ever marry a person like that?
However, to everyone’s surprise, Xie Jingyu stood up and walked toward them.
No one dared to disrespect the young master of the Xie family. The Wei son, shocked that Xie Jingyu actually intervened, left in a fit of resentment. Xie Jingyu turned to look at Wei Xia, feeling a sudden sense of awkwardness.
He did not know why he had stepped in, but by the time he snapped back to reality, he and Wei Xia were standing on the outdoor viewing deck.
The man before him was lean but not short, handsome and elegant. There was a constant, fragile glimmer in his eyes that looked particularly pitiable under the night lights. As the night breeze blew, Xie Jingyu caught a scent of mellow red wine, so fragrant it was almost intoxicating.
He felt he had been blinded by beauty. Yet, he did not stop himself: “Are you willing to marry into my family?”
Wei Xia looked deep into his eyes and said, “I am.”
And so, the marriage was settled.
Later, Xie Jingyu reflected on why he wanted to marry Wei Xia. He had initially assumed his blind date was a pampered Omega who had grown up in love, never knowing hardship, and who would harbor unrealistic fantasies about an Alpha husband, which is why he had not wanted to ruin someone’s lifelong happiness.
But Wei Xia was different. His life had been just as difficult as Xie Jingyu’s once was, struggling within the family. If he married Xie Jingyu, he would at least live well.
As for love, Xie Jingyu made things clear to Wei Xia.
“I cannot give you love, and I won’t even give you a temporary mark. Are you still willing, even then?”
At the time, Wei Xia simply widened his eyes, his beautiful brows furrowing slightly as if filled with confusion.
Xie Jingyu added: “Of course, I won’t stop you from finding love freely. If one day you find your true love, tell me, and I will readily divorce you and give you a portion of my assets.”
“I, may I ask why?”
In a moment of mental lapse, Xie Jingyu fabricated a person who did not exist. “I have a long-time lover whom I love deeply.”
He did not explain further, simply looking at Wei Xia calmly. When he did not smile, he often carried an air of natural authority. Realizing this, Xie Jingyu tried to adjust his facial muscles to look less stern, so as not to scare the Omega away.
“We are having a marriage of convenience. I won’t interfere in your private life, so long as rumors do not get out that I am being cheated on.”
He tried to make a joke to lighten the mood, but it did not seem very funny. Wei Xia appeared troubled, yet he did not hesitate: “Okay, I am willing.”
Thus, they were married, a union that shocked many in their social circle.
Everyone knew the Wei family was in trouble, which was why they had dragged back an illegitimate son and had the audacity to shove him toward Master Xie. What was even more unthinkable was that Master Xie had agreed.
Could it be that the Wei family’s illegitimate son truly possessed some kind of magic?
The Xie Residence
In the traditional Chinese-style wedding, the bridal chamber was decorated with festive cheer. Xie Jingyu had been pressured into drinking quite a bit. He wore a wedding robe embroidered with gold and red thread, which accentuated his strikingly handsome features. As the alcohol took effect, the gland at the back of his neck began to itch. When no one was looking, he pressed his hand against it, stood up, and went to the bathroom to inject a vial of potent suppressant.
His secondary differentiation had occurred very late, and his pheromone secretion had been sparse, so he had always thought it would not be an issue. However, over the last two years, as his gland matured, his pheromones finally “awakened,” becoming dense and rich. The intervals between episodes were becoming shorter. Xie Jingyu had to admit that his body was becoming difficult to manage.
Now, he needed an injection of potent suppressant every two weeks. Fortunately, the suppressants were still effective.
Xie Jingyu looked at himself in the mirror. His expression appeared normal. He straightened his clothes and headed back.
Wei Xia had already been sent to the bridal chamber. Xie Jingyu drank a few more glasses before returning to the bedroom, feeling lightheaded. He paused as he opened the door.
Wei Xia, also in wedding attire, was sitting upright on the large bed. Someone had arranged for him to wear a red bridal veil.
Xie Jingyu had intended to suggest they simply wash up and sleep, but after a moment of hesitation, he stepped forward and lifted the veil. Looking at the beautiful, delicate face beneath, he smiled slightly: “Let’s rest.”
What Wei Xia saw were Xie Jingyu’s eyes, hazy with intoxication and very beautiful.
“I will help you wash up,” Wei Xia said.
“It is fine, I can do it myself.”
Xie Jingyu’s gait was a bit floaty, but his mind was clear. He slowly washed up, then came out and sprawled across the bed. His head was heavy, yet he could not fall asleep. Seeing Wei Xia busy tidying up, he felt satisfied with this sensible and tactful wife.
Wei Xia was good-looking, did not have a spoiled personality, and was not clingy. The atmosphere between them was quite pleasant.
Once Wei Xia finished washing up, he had changed out of his wedding clothes. He emitted a calm, peaceful scent. He carefully lifted the covers to lie down, then turned his head to watch Xie Jingyu’s profile.
“Why are you looking at me? Hmm?” Since Xie Jingyu could not sleep, he figured they could chat.
Wei Xia smiled. “I think you are handsome.”
Xie Jingyu said, “Wei Xia.”
“Yes?”
“This is your home now. You do not have to be too formal with me. Although this is a marriage of convenience, you have all the rights of my wife.” After saying this, Xie Jingyu felt his tone was a bit too stiff. He looked at Wei Xia and intentionally softened his voice: “Whatever you want, I will support you.”
Wei Xia blinked. “Anything I want?”
Xie Jingyu nodded, then added with a smile, “Except for a mark.”
He was not sure if it was an illusion, but after saying that, he felt Wei Xia’s expression dim slightly.
“Then, your significant other,” Wei Xia spoke cautiously. “Will he be jealous?”
The “he” referred to the lover Xie Jingyu had made up. Xie Jingyu had not actually thought that far ahead. He paused, his alcohol-dulled brain turning slowly as he spun a mediocre lie: “He knows. We have reached an agreement. He will not cause you any trouble.”
“Okay.”
“Will you be coming home in the future?”
Xie Jingyu: “I will.”
“Good.”
