Tang Congyue turned the bathroom doorknob and stepped out, enveloped in a thick mist of steam. She had just washed her hair and was drying it with a towel. As she emerged, her gaze swept across the room and landed on the large bed nearby, where she noticed a slightly damp bath towel lying on it, but its owner was nowhere to be seen.
She froze for a moment, instinctively calling out Yun Li’s name, but there was no response.
For no apparent reason, Tang Congyue felt a surge of panic. She glanced toward the kitchen, empty, then hurried over to the balcony, only to find it deserted as well.
How could this be?
Where is A-Li?
Tang Congyue’s composure began to crack. Remembering that Zhu Yaqin lived next door, she wondered if Yun Li had gone to see her.
With that thought, Tang Congyue strode out and knocked on the neighboring door.
Knock, knock!
After a moment, Zhu Yaqin opened the door. She had also just finished showering and was still damp with steam. Seeing Tang Congyue, she looked surprised.
“Tang Congyue, what brings you here?”
“Has A-Li come to see you?”
Yun Li looking for her?
Zhu Yaqin looked confused. “No, Yun Li hasn’t come to see me. Why? What’s wrong?”
Tang Congyue opened her mouth to speak but swallowed her words. A few seconds later, she replied hoarsely, “It’s nothing.”
With that, Tang Congyue turned to go back to her room.
Though Zhu Yaqin was usually carefree, she could clearly sense that something was off with Tang Congyue. This was the first time she had ever seen her so unsettled, and she couldn’t help but feel concerned.
“Tang Congyue, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Tang Congyue forced a stiff smile and returned to her room.
Watching her go, Zhu Yaqin frowned deeply.
“What’s going on?”
Zhao Jinhe’s voice suddenly sounded from behind.
Zhu Yaqin jumped, turning to see him wearing only pants, his upper body bare.
Zhao Jinhe had a good physique, with visible abdominal muscles. After a moment of appreciation, Zhu Yaqin snapped back to reality and answered his question, “It’s nothing.”
“Really? I heard Tang Congyue asking about Yun Li. Has Yun Li gone missing?”
Yun Li missing?
How could that be?
Without a second thought, Zhu Yaqin dismissed Zhao Jinhe’s suggestion. “Impossible. Don’t overthink it, Brother Zhao. By the way, aren’t you cold without a shirt?”
Zhao Jinhe: “…”
He stared at her darkly for a moment before expressionlessly shutting the door.
Zhu Yaqin let out a sigh of relief.
Tsk, that was intimidating. Zhao Jinhe’s glare was pretty scary.
She took one last glance at Tang Congyue’s closed door, frowned slightly, and finally closed her own door.
Meanwhile, back in her room, Tang Congyue searched every corner but still found no trace of Yun Li.
“Where did she go?”
“Where on earth did she go?”
Tang Congyue’s voice sounded calm on the surface, but a closer listen revealed a slight tremble. Even her usually placid face was tinged with panic, a stark contrast to her usual composure.
For a long while, Tang Congyue stood rooted to the spot, having now calmed down. Her gaze fell on the damp towel on the bed, and suddenly, a thought struck her. She hurriedly rummaged through the shopping bag on the coffee table, only to find that the women’s clothing they had bought remained untouched.
The clothes hadn’t been disturbed, which meant A-Li was still in her pajamas. Knowing A-Li as she did, it was impossible for her to leave the room dressed like that.
If she couldn’t have gone out, then…
Abruptly, Tang Congyue’s mind reeled, her expression turning icy and terrifying.
Had someone come in and taken A-Li away?
But how had she not heard any commotion?
Rage surged within Tang Congyue, her fists clenching tightly. It was at that moment her peripheral vision caught a figure materializing out of thin air.
She snapped her head toward it and saw Yun Li, still clad in her pajamas.
Yun Li looked dazed, and when she noticed Tang Congyue staring, she blinked a couple of times.
“Cong…”
Before she could finish speaking, Tang Congyue strode over and enveloped her in a tight embrace.
“A-Li!”
Yun Li’s eyes were filled with confusion. Just as she was about to ask what was wrong, Tang Congyue released her, and then everything went dark as Tang Congyue leaned in, pressing her lips fiercely against Yun Li’s.
“Mmm…”
A soft moan escaped Yun Li, and it seemed to trigger something in Tang Congyue. The kiss intensified, as if she wanted to devour her whole.
Soon, Yun Li felt her tongue go numb.
Unable to bear it any longer, she pushed against Tang Congyue’s shoulders. When Tang Congyue remained unmoved, Yun Li grew angry and bit down hard on the tip of her tongue.
The pain jolted Tang Congyue back to her senses. She released Yun Li’s lips, her usually pale face now tinged with color, a faint hint of desire lingering between her brows.
She gazed at Yun Li, whose lips were red and swollen, her peach-blossom eyes shimmering with unshed tears, the corners tinged with a captivating blush, so beautiful it made one want to consume her entirely.
“A-Li…”
Tang Congyue’s voice was hoarse. She raised a hand to caress Yun Li’s flushed cheek, but an irritated Yun Li slapped it away.
“Tang Congyue, have you lost your mind?!” Yun Li covered her mouth, her peach-blossom eyes blazing with anger.
“I’m sorry, it’s my fault.”
Yun Li was like a treasure lost and found again. Afraid she might not be real, Tang Congyue had resorted to this method to confirm her existence.
Yun Li now noticed Tang Congyue’s unusual state. After hesitating for a few seconds, she finally asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
Tang Congyue shook her head and countered, “A-Li, where did you go just now?”
At this, Yun Li’s gaze faltered, her eyes unconsciously drifting to Tang Congyue’s face.
Ah…
If Tang Congyue finds out she had taken her destined partner’s space, how would she feel? Especially since it was Tang Congyue who had helped her secure it… And when Ou Yunru finds out, what would her reaction be?
Would it lead to a fiery pursuit to win her back?
Yun Li imagined the scene, and though her chest felt a bit tight, she couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly.
Hahaha, am I being too wicked?
Lost in her thoughts, Yun Li suddenly let out a light laugh.
Tang Congyue: “?”
“A-Li?”
“What?”
“You…” Tang Congyue wanted to ask why she was laughing but felt she wouldn’t get an answer. After pondering for three seconds, she changed the subject. “A-Li, have you awakened an ability?”
Yun Li was slightly taken aback. “Why do you say that?”
“You appeared out of thin air just now. Did you awaken an ‘invisibility’ ability?”
If that were truly the case, then A-Li had been here all along. She was present, watching her lose control, and yet she remained silent…
Suddenly, Tang Congyue felt an itch in her teeth, wanting to bite Yun Li’s cheek hard to teach her a lesson for daring to tease her like this.
“No, I haven’t awakened any ability.” Yun Li denied, shaking her head.
“A-Li, don’t lie to me.”
“I’m really not lying!” Yun Li widened her eyes, then, as if remembering something, her gaze toward Tang Congyue deepened with a hint of meaning. “Look.”
Yun Li raised the hand that had previously worn the white jade bracelet.
Tang Congyue’s eyes fell upon it, eventually drawn to the thin crimson line on her wrist.
“What is this?”
Tang Congyue reached out and touched the crimson line, only to feel smooth, delicate skin. She paused in surprise, then looked more closely and realized that the line seemed to be growing within Yun Li’s flesh.
What was this?
Tang Congyue was certain that before today, Yun Li’s wrist had never had such a mark.
Inevitably, Tang Congyue grew anxious.
“A-Li?” She looked up at Yun Li.
“This is that white jade bracelet.”
Tang Congyue froze, then heard Yun Li begin to chatter excitedly: “You know what? Just now! I was touching the white jade bracelet when something seemed to bite my finger, and it even sucked my blood! I thought I was going to die, but then I passed out. When I woke up, I found myself on a patch of black soil as big as a soccer field. Oh, and besides the black soil, there’s also a three-story farmhouse inside!”
Hearing the first part, Tang Congyue was utterly horrified. She didn’t care about the black soil or the farmhouse and immediately asked, “Which hand?”
Yun Li raised the finger that had been bitten.
Tang Congyue quickly grabbed it to inspect, then paused again. “There’s no wound.”
“Right, right? It’s so amazing!”
Such a miraculous thing is mine now. I wonder if Tang Congyue will regret it later?
Yun Li narrowed her eyes slightly, but when Tang Congyue looked over, she returned to normal and continued, “You know, novels don’t lie. Whenever the apocalypse arrives, there’s bound to be a spatial artifact! But usually, these artifacts require the owner to actively offer a drop of blood to bind them, right? Why did it actively suck my blood?”
She paused, then added, “Maybe it’s because I’m naturally beautiful, and the spatial artifact took a liking to me? Hahaha…”
Seeing Yun Li’s excitement and her disregard for her own well-being, Tang Congyue felt both angry and helpless. She didn’t respond to Yun Li’s words and instead asked, “Are you feeling unwell anywhere else?”
Yun Li thought for a moment. “Ah, at first, I felt a bit dizzy, but now it seems like there’s no major discomfort?”
“Really?”
“Really,” Yun Li nodded. “Maybe it was due to blood loss at first? I need to nourish my body properly.”
She had already been malnourished recently, and now, after having her blood sucked, she felt she couldn’t go on without replenishing her health.
Tang Congyue thought the same and decided to go out later to see if she could find anything to help Yun Li recover.
“But let’s not talk about that for now. I want to study this spatial artifact!”
“How do you plan to study it?” Tang Congyue asked patiently.
“Let’s see if the flow of time inside the space is the same as outside!” With that, Yun Li pulled out her phone from her backpack and handed it to Tang Congyue. “Time me.”
Tang Congyue nodded to indicate she understood.
“Then I’m starting now.”
“Mm.”
As soon as Tang Congyue spoke, Yun Li vanished into thin air before her eyes. Despite expecting it, Tang Congyue’s heart still lurched uncontrollably for a moment.
With a single thought, Yun Li found herself back in the space.
She stood on the black soil, the rustic farmhouse not far away.
Since she had already been inside the farmhouse before, she didn’t head in that direction this time. Instead, she gazed at the distant black soil and began counting silently in her mind.
1, 2, 3… 5… 20… 50…
Yun Li counted all the way to two hundred, feeling it was enough, then silently thought, “I want to leave.” In a blur, she was back in the apartment.
“A-Li.”
Almost the moment she appeared, Tang Congyue reached out and grasped her hand.
Yun Li turned to look at her. “So, how many minutes passed?”
“About two minutes or so.”
“Ah, that matches my counting! It means the flow of time inside and outside the space is the same!”
“Mm.”
Tang Congyue’s hand still held Yun Li’s tightly, as if only this could calm her nerves.
“Next, I’m going to test something else!”
“What else?”
“To see if the space can bring people in!”
Tang Congyue instinctively raised an eyebrow.
“Ready?” Yun Li asked.
Understanding her meaning, Tang Congyue tightened her grip on Yun Li’s hand and hummed in agreement.
“Let’s go!”
Yun Li squeezed Tang Congyue’s hand firmly in return. Silently thinking “enter,” her vision blurred once more, and she was back in the space. But almost immediately, a wave of dizziness washed over her, making her unsteady. If not for the person beside her catching her in an embrace, she would have collapsed to the ground.
“You came in too?”
Once the dizziness passed, Yun Li rubbed her temples and looked at Tang Congyue.
Tang Congyue paid no attention to their surroundings, her gaze fixed solely on Yun Li’s suddenly pale face. “Are you okay?”
“I’m actually fine. The dizziness just now might be a side effect of bringing someone in. It passed quickly.” Seeing Tang Congyue’s worried expression, Yun Li patted the back of her hand reassuringly. “Come, look! This is my space!”
Yun Li spread her arms wide, beaming with joy.
Tang Congyue could only sigh helplessly at Yun Li’s enthusiasm. After confirming that Yun Li was physically stable, she followed her gaze. They stood on a stretch of black soil as vast as a football field, with a three-story farmhouse standing not far behind them.
She withdrew her gaze and looked down at the black soil beneath their feet.
Curious, Yun Li asked, “Congyue, what are you looking at?”
Was there something special about this black soil?
Instead of answering, Tang Congyue crouched down, unbothered by the dirt, and scooped up a handful of black soil, rubbing it between her fingers.
Yun Li’s peach-blossom eyes widened slightly in surprise. “Congyue?”
“This soil is very suitable for planting.”
Yun Li was first startled, then thought of the post-apocalyptic novels she had read before, and excitedly clapped her hands. “Space farming! Isn’t that a standard feature of spatial abilities?”
Tang Congyue tossed away the black soil in her hand and stood up. “A-Li, how many novels have you actually read?”
Was this what she’d been reading in the dorm whenever she didn’t reply to messages?
Yun Li awkwardly rubbed her nose. “Not that many, just about ten or so?”
Tang Congyue: “…”
She sighed silently.
“This land can be cultivated. We shouldn’t let it go to waste. Let’s look for farming tools in a few days.”
Yun Li blinked her peach-blossom eyes. “But I don’t know how to farm.”
“I’ll do it.”
“You know how?”
“I used to help my grandparents with farming when I was young.”
Yun Li grew curious. Now that she thought about it, she rarely heard Tang Congyue talk about her family. She only knew that both her parents had passed away, her grandparents who raised her were also deceased, and she now lived alone in Nan City.
“Then this black soil is all yours.” Having said that, Yun Li secretly smiled.
She decided to completely delegate the task. Before their breakup, she would make full use of Tang Congyue’s labor!
She wondered if this would make Tang Congyue consider breaking up with her.
If so, that would be perfect!
Noticing this from the corner of her eye, Tang Congyue had no idea what she was so happily scheming about. She used her clean hand to pinch Yun Li’s cheek.
“If you want to laugh, just laugh. Don’t hold it in and hurt yourself.”
“Pfft…”
Yun Li couldn’t hold back anymore. She collapsed against Tang Congyue, laughing radiantly.
It took quite a while for Yun Li to stop laughing. She cleared her throat and said, “Come on, let’s go check out the farmhouse now.”
“Mm.”
Yun Li led Tang Congyue into the farmhouse. As soon as they entered, Tang Congyue spotted the well in the courtyard.
She had been wondering earlier, while farming in the space was possible, without a water source, she didn’t know how to solve that problem. Now, seeing the well in the yard, she nodded in satisfaction.
Tang Congyue walked straight to the well, first peered down to confirm there was water, then drew up a bucket of clear, clean well water.
Using the well water, she washed her hands that had been dirtied by the black soil.
“Hey, I just noticed there’s a well here.” Yun Li walked over.
Tang Congyue glanced at Yun Li but didn’t say anything.
After washing her hands, she stood up. “What’s next?”
Yun Li had already explored this farmhouse earlier. Now full of enthusiasm, she led Tang Congyue to a corner of the yard, opened a wooden plank on the ground, and said, “Congyue, look! It’s a cellar!”
“Shall we go down and check it out?”
The cellar was dimly lit. Yun Li, being afraid of the dark, hadn’t ventured down when she first discovered it. Now, with Tang Congyue here, she looked at her with hopeful eyes.
Without a word, Tang Congyue understood her expression. She smiled helplessly and took the initiative to go down first.
Seeing this, Yun Li cautiously followed.
The cellar was cool and damp. As soon as she entered, Yun Li shivered.
The cellar was empty. Using the faint light, Tang Congyue roughly estimated its size, about a hundred square meters, enough to store plenty of things.
“That’s enough. We can go back up now.”
Yun Li eagerly agreed and hurriedly climbed up first.
Tang Congyue followed behind her. After going up, she closed the wooden plank.
“You’ve seen the cellar. Now, I’ll take you inside.”
Yun Li made a “please” gesture.
Tang Congyue found it amusing and reached out again to pinch her cheek.
Yun Li, displeased, swatted her hand away. “Be serious.”
“I am being serious.”
Nonsense!
You’re the least serious person there is!
It’s no wonder people outside say Tang Congyue is an unattainable flower, they just haven’t seen her true nature!
While inwardly grumbling, Yun Li led Tang Congyue into the house.
As soon as they entered, the first thing they saw was a spacious living room, completely empty with nothing inside. Next to the living room was a semi-open kitchen, along with a bathroom and a storage room.
Yun Li had already checked the bathroom earlier; it had a squat toilet and a sink, but there was no water, making it clear that the bathroom was merely for show.
After touring the first floor, they went up to the second floor.
The second floor had three rooms and a bathroom, each room completely bare with nothing inside.
After a quick look at the second floor, they proceeded to the third floor, which was identical to the second. Then, they headed straight to the rooftop, where they stood and gazed at the black soil in the distance.
“How does it feel?” Yun Li asked.
“How does what feel?”
“Don’t you think it’s amazing?”
Tang Congyue remained silent for a while and didn’t answer. Instead, she said, “We can simply decorate this farmhouse. If we encounter any danger, A-Li, you must quickly hide in the space, understand?”
Yun Li was momentarily stunned, then snapped back to reality and softly hummed in agreement.
“Let’s go out.”
After a while, Tang Congyue spoke.
“Okay.”
With a single thought from Yun Li, they returned to the apartment.
Bringing someone into the space must have been too draining on her mental energy, as Yun Li now felt utterly exhausted.
“Congyue, I’m so tired. I want to sleep for a while.”
Seeing her slightly pale cheeks, Tang Congyue felt no joy over Yun Li obtaining a spatial artifact. Instead, she feared the artifact might bring danger to Yun Li.
Her heart aching, she gently stroked Yun Li’s warm, soft cheek and leaned down to place a kiss on her forehead.
“Sleep.”
“Will you join me?”
Yun Li had already lain down and was now gazing at Tang Congyue with those captivating peach-blossom eyes.
Tang Congyue couldn’t resist. She climbed onto the bed, lay down, and pulled Yun Li into her arms.
“Sleep, I’ll stay with you.”
“Okay.”
Yun Li found a comfortable position in Tang Congyue’s embrace, nuzzled against her collarbone, and closed her eyes.
She had thought it would take a long time to fall asleep in an unfamiliar environment, but as soon as she closed her eyes, she drifted into a deep slumber.
Feeling the steady, even breaths of the person in her arms, Tang Congyue glanced down and softly kissed the top of her head.
…
Yun Li slept so deeply and sweetly that when she woke, she felt as if she had lost all sense of time.
Mmm, so comfortable…
She sighed inwardly and snuggled closer into Tang Congyue’s embrace.
“Awake?”
Yun Li didn’t respond.
“A-Li?”
“Hmm.”
“Want to sleep more?”
Yun Li opened her eyes and noticed the dim light in the room. “How long did I sleep?”
Tang Congyue picked up her phone and glanced at it. “You fell asleep around noon, and it’s almost seven now.”
Yun Li was slightly surprised.
Huh? Had she actually slept for nearly seven hours? No wonder she felt so refreshed.
Yun Li slipped out of Tang Congyue’s embrace and stretched lazily on the bed.
“Are you hungry?” Tang Congyue asked.
“Starving.”
As if to prove her words, her stomach rumbled loudly.
“But I don’t want to go out.”
While shopping at the supermarket today, they learned that there was a cafeteria in the base where all the survivors usually had their meals. However, Yun Li was feeling too lazy to go out and could settle for instant noodles and compressed biscuits for now.
Tang Congyue frowned slightly but eventually gave in under Yun Li’s gaze. “Alright, let’s just have the instant noodles and compressed biscuits as they are.” she said.
Yun Li smiled. “I’ll go with the instant noodles!”
“I’ll get them for you.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Though she said she was just fetching the noodles, Tang Congyue actually crushed the noodle block, poured in the seasoning, and shook the bag a few times to coat the broken pieces evenly. Only then did she hand the bag to Yun Li.
Yun Li took it, took a deep sniff, and then sneezed.
Tang Congyue: “…”
She chuckled softly.
Yun Li felt a bit embarrassed and shot Tang Congyue a glare before starting to enjoy her dinner.
Seeing this, Tang Congyue still felt a pang of pity that Yun Li, who had lost a lot of blood today, was having to eat instant noodles. She decided she must visit the cafeteria tomorrow to see what food was available, she wanted to help Yun Li replenish her strength.
