- Which Fierce Alpha Disguises as a Beta to Abduct a Wife?
- Chapter 8 - This Bodyguard Doesn't Look Simple
Jiang Huaiyan didn’t answer Zhou Yunqiu’s question directly. “I’m busy out here. Give me an hour; I’ll come to fetch you once I’ve handled things on this end.”
Zhou Yunqiu took several deep breaths just to keep himself from exploding on the spot. He sneered, “Don’t bother coming. I’ll find someone else.” He hung up immediately after finishing his sentence.
However, after hanging up, he realized he didn’t know who to call. For the past two years, Jiang Huaiyan had been with him constantly; he had never once had to worry about how he was getting home.
Just as he was about to call a cab, his childhood friend, Young Master Yu, called him. “Qiuqiu, come out and play! You haven’t seen Xiao Yi since he returned to the country. Let’s have a get-together.”
“I don’t have a car to get there right now.”
“That’s easy. Send me the address; I’ll pick you up.”
“Then come to the ancestral estate to get me.”
After hanging up, Zhou Yunqiu waited by the main gates. Fine if Jiang Huaiyan wouldn’t come—he would go play by himself. Without that man around, he could be even more reckless and uninhibited. Perhaps he would even run into an Alpha who caught his eye.
Since he wasn’t their “only one,” they naturally shouldn’t expect to be his either.
About fifteen minutes later, Yu Shaoqin appeared at the gates of the Zhou estate driving a cool Pagani. “Is she a beauty or what?” He raised an eyebrow and patted the car. Though he was an Omega, he bore a striking resemblance to a philandering Alpha.
“A beauty. More beautiful than you,” Zhou Yunqiu praised with a laugh.
Yu Shaoqin loved cars more than life itself; praising his car made him happier than being praised himself.
“Absolutely! This is my new wife.” Yu Shaoqin excitedly kissed the steering wheel. “Quick, get in. I’ll take you for a few laps.”
“Aren’t we going to hang out?” Zhou Yunqiu asked as he got in and buckled his seatbelt.
“Xiao Yi was caught by his dad just as he was about to head out. He won’t be able to leave the house for at least two weeks this time.”
Zhou Yunqiu: “…What happened?”
“He fell in love with a Beta. He’s insisting on breaking his engagement with his fiancé.”
Zhou Yunqiu’s gossip-loving soul instantly caught fire. “Who? Who has such immense charm that they could make our ‘Goody-Two-Shoes’ defy his father’s orders?”
Xiao Yi was also an Omega who had grown up with them, but he had always been very obedient, hence the nickname. Three years ago, he followed his father’s orders and got engaged to an Alpha the family introduced. He hadn’t married immediately, opting to go abroad for further studies. He only returned last week to prepare for his wedding to his Alpha fiancé.
And now he had suddenly had a change of heart?
“Don’t get angry when I tell you,” Yu Shaoqin said, feeling a bit apprehensive.
“Why would I be angry? It’s not like the person he fell for is—” Zhou Yunqiu cut himself off mid-sentence, looking at Yu Shaoqin in disbelief.
Yu Shaoqin understood his suspicion instantly and nodded.
Zhou Yunqiu’s face went black.
Jiang Huaiyan! The Beta Xiao Yi loved was actually Jiang Huaiyan!
What on earth is going on?!
“Don’t get agitated. This won’t work out. Leaving aside whether your bodyguard is interested in him, even if he were, the Xiao family would never agree to it.”
“When did they even meet?” Isn’t Jiang Huaiyan with me all the time? When did he have time to meet other Omegas?
“That, I don’t know. I only know that the person he likes is your bodyguard.” Yu Shaoqin patted Zhou Yunqiu’s shoulder. “Look on the bright side. Your bodyguard might be a Beta, but he’s more fierce than an Alpha. It would be abnormal if Omegas didn’t like him.”
Zhou Yunqiu’s hands clenched into fists, his teeth grinding together so hard they almost shattered.
“Want to go for a couple of drinks?” Seeing Zhou’s foul mood, Yu Shaoqin drove straight to The Summit.
Zhou Yunqiu initially didn’t want to go, but his heart was incredibly stifled. If he went home alone, he would only feel more miserable; he might as well stay with Yu Shaoqin.
The two took the elevator and swiped their cards to reach their usual floor. But the moment they stepped out, they saw a familiar figure.
“Isn’t that… your bodyguard?” Yu Shaoqin asked.
Zhou Yunqiu’s eyes sharpened as he watched the figure. It was indeed Jiang Huaiyan!
He quickly pulled Yu Shaoqin behind a corner, poking his head out to watch.
Jiang Huaiyan had shed his bodyguard attire and changed into a black suit. The suit was ordinary—the kind you could find anywhere on the street but on him, it exuded the powerful aura of a superior. At a single glance, one would think he was a high-ranking executive used to giving orders.
Standing next to him was Duan Mingxu. The club owner had also dropped his usual casualness, replaced by an air of seriousness. The two were being ushered out by several men, each of whom bore a look of absolute respect.
“Qiuqiu, this bodyguard of yours… he doesn’t look simple.”
“I’m not blind,” Zhou Yunqiu snapped.
Jiang Huaiyan’s current identity was clearly not that of a mere bodyguard! So, who was he really?
Zhou was furious that his hearing wasn’t good enough; he couldn’t hear what they were saying. He could only watch their movements.
Jiang Huaiyan checked his watch several times, seemingly in a hurry to leave. But the people surrounding him wouldn’t let him go; they even called over a beautiful Omega to join him in the elevator.
Watching that Omega stand next to Jiang Huaiyan with eyes full of flirtation, Zhou Yunqiu instantly blew a fuse.
How dare they push an Omega onto my bodyguard! They really don’t have any respect for me as his employer!
He was about to rush over and drag Jiang Huaiyan away from that group when his arm was suddenly grabbed.
“What do you think you’re doing? Let go—” He thought it was Yu Shaoqin, but turning his head, he saw Fang Yanting.
He quickly checked his voice and adjusted his expression. “Yanting? What are you doing here?”
“I came here with some friends for a drink. What about you? You look like you’re in quite a rush.”
Zhou Yunqiu pulled his hand away. “I am in a rush. Go have your drinks; I have an urgent matter to handle.”
He tried to leave, but Fang Yanting pulled him back again. “What could be so urgent this late at night? Since we’ve run into each other, let’s have a few drinks together.”
“I’m not drinking. I really have things to do.”
Yu Shaoqin immediately grabbed Fang Yanting’s hand, forcing him to let go. “Master Fang, how about I accompany you for a few drinks instead? I just happened to get a craving.”
Zhou Yunqiu took the chance to turn and run.
But Jiang Huaiyan and the others had already taken the elevator down, and there was no telling which floor they had stopped on. He entered the elevator and dialed Jiang Huaiyan’s number directly.
This time, it was answered quickly. “Little Master?”
“Get your ass out here. I’m waiting for you at the first-floor entrance right now.”
“You’re here?”
“I’m right here at The Summit. If I don’t see you in five minutes, you’re finished.” He hung up angrily and walked out as soon as the elevator reached the lobby.
Every extra minute of waiting caused his fury to grow. Five minutes passed, and Jiang Huaiyan still hadn’t appeared. Zhou Yunqiu’s rage had reached its boiling point.
Just as he was about to rush back in and tear the place apart, his phone rang. Thinking it was Jiang Huaiyan, he answered immediately.
But the voice on the other end was a doctor’s: “Mr. Zhou’s heart has stopped. Please come to the hospital immediately.”
Those words made Zhou Yunqiu feel like he had been plunged into a cellar of ice; all his rage was instantly frozen away.
Dad… is he dying?
He didn’t have time to think. With trembling hands, he called Jiang Huaiyan, begging him to come down quickly and take him to the hospital.
But at the critical moment, no one answered the phone.
