- Which Fierce Alpha Disguises as a Beta to Abduct a Wife?
- Chapter 49 - At This Very Moment, Shouldn't We Have Something More Intense?
A single, simple word caused Zhou Yunqiu’s heart to thump wildly, instantly making him forget all their previous unpleasantness. He immediately placed a video call to Jiang Huaiyan.
Jiang Huaiyan answered quickly, and his handsome face appeared on Zhou Yunqiu’s screen.
Zhou Yunqiu’s flirtatious talk came naturally: “I think I’d be even happier if you let me see somewhere else.”
Jiang Huaiyan: “…”
“Hmm? Will you let me see or not?”
“See where?”
“You decide.”
In the next second, Jiang Huaiyan stood up and lifted his shirt, revealing eight sexy abdominal muscles to the camera.
Zhou Yunqiu’s mouth instantly formed an “O” shape, wide with surprise. Jiang Huaiyan actually let him see his abs! Is this really Jiang Huaiyan? It must be… those muscle lines are so familiar!
After a long pause, he finally gave his sincere praise: “So handsome, so sexy. If only I could touch them.”
“You can’t touch them.”
“Then come over here and let me touch them, please?”
“Okay,” Jiang Huaiyan said, already moving as if to come find him.
Zhou Yunqiu was startled by this level of decisiveness. “Wait, you’re acting strange today. Why are you being so obedient?”
“You’re unhappy.” From the first moment Jiang Huaiyan saw him, he could tell Zhou Yunqiu was upset.
Zhou Yunqiu’s heart skipped a beat, but he refused to admit it. “I am not unhappy; I’m perfectly happy.”
“I know what you look like when you’re actually happy.”
Zhou Yunqiu: “…Fine, I am indeed a bit down. So, can you coax me?”
Jiang Huaiyan paused for a long time before asking cautiously, “Shall I sing a song for you?”
“Mhm. I want to hear ‘Steal My Heart’ (Tou Xin).”
“Okay.”
“It is loneliness slowly occupying my heart, the long night growing colder and more desolate…”
The sexy, low-pitched voice allowed Zhou Yunqiu’s restless heart to settle down slowly. He lay on the bed, listening to Jiang Huaiyan’s singing until he fell asleep.
Listening to the steady breathing coming through the phone, Jiang Huaiyan’s heart felt like it had turned into a pool of water, ready to melt around Zhou Yunqiu at any moment.
The Next Day.
Jiang Huaiyan escorted Zhou Yunqiu to the Zhou Group for a meeting.
As expected, many people in the company were dissatisfied with Zhou Yunqiu’s appearance, feeling he knew nothing and shouldn’t be sitting in the head seat on behalf of Zhou Yunqing.
“You all seem to have forgotten that I am the largest shareholder in this company,” Zhou Yunqiu said with a cold sneer.
“So what? Without President Zhou here, those shares are useless to you.”
“Who says they’re useless? I could exchange these shares for cash and crush you to death with the weight of it.”
The manager: “…”
“Can we actually hold this meeting properly or not?” Zhou Yunqiu asked, spinning in the executive chair with a cavalier attitude.
“You understand nothing. How can a meeting be held? Better to not hold it at all.” Someone stood up to leave.
Jiang Huaiyan walked over and pressed the man back into his seat. His strength was so great that the man was completely unable to move.
“What… what do you think you’re doing?” the director questioned angrily.
“Director Wu, my bodyguard has quite a temper,” Zhou Yunqiu’s face suddenly went cold, a chilling light flashing in his beautiful eyes. “And of course… my temper is even worse. If I’m unhappy, I can make you all get lost at any time. My brother’s purpose in sending me here was to let you know that I am the boss of this company. Even if something happens to him, it won’t be any of your turns to inherit it, I am still here.”
“If you want to try and make a move against me, you’ll have to see if my bodyguard agrees. He is, after all, going to be with me for a lifetime.”
The moment Zhou Yunqiu said this, the other dissatisfied participants fell silent. With the assistance of the secretary, the meeting proceeded very smoothly.
On the way back, Zhou Yunqiu asked Jiang Huaiyan excitedly in the car, “Did I look handsome in the conference room?”
“Handsome.”
“You were so handsome too! As soon as you stepped in, they all got scared.” Zhou Yunqiu’s eyes sparkled with admiration.
Jiang Huaiyan’s heart pounded, and he didn’t dare look Zhou Yunqiu in the eye.
Zhou Yunqiu suddenly leaned in and kissed the corner of his mouth. “Jiang Huaiyan, do you have any objections to what I said during the meeting?”
Jiang Huaiyan’s body stiffened, his breathing growing shallow. “What words?”
“The words about you being with me for a lifetime.” Zhou Yunqiu cupped his face, forcing him to look into his eyes. “I can tell that you like me very much. Since you love me this much, I don’t want to give up on you.”
Jiang Huaiyan’s heart beat even more violently, but he pulled away from Zhou Yunqiu’s hands and retreated slightly. “Young Master, I cannot make a lifetime promise to you again.”
“Why? Because of the conflict between you and my father?”
Jiang Huaiyan’s eyes widened in surprise; he hadn’t expected the boy to know so clearly. He thought Zhou Yunqing wouldn’t have told him.
“Then tell me exactly what conflict you have with my dad. Why have you been investigating him?” Zhou Yunqiu was full of sincerity, looking like he wanted to have a serious talk about the matter.
But Jiang Huaiyan didn’t want him to know. He was afraid—afraid that Zhou Yunqiu would ignore him because of this.
“Jiang Huaiyan, do you really think I’m such an unreasonable person?” Zhou Yunqiu saw right through his thoughts. Having spent two years together, he understood Jiang Huaiyan just as well.
“No.”
“Then tell me. I can distinguish right from wrong for myself.”
Jiang Huaiyan still looked hesitant.
“I’m going to be heartbroken,” Zhou Yunqiu feigned being hurt. “You won’t even tell me something this important; you’d rather keep it buried in your heart. Do you know how much that hurts me? I worry all day and night that you’ll abandon me because of this, all while I remain in the dark, being discarded without even knowing why.”
Looking at his face, Jiang Huaiyan suddenly stopped insisting and told Zhou Yunqiu about his suspicions.
After hearing it, Zhou Yunqiu’s mind went blank for a moment. He didn’t know who to believe. His father, Zhou Yushen, was indeed not a good man, but he didn’t think he was so bad that he would take someone’s life. Yet, the evidence Jiang Huaiyan produced forced him to wonder if his understanding of his father was flawed.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have told you this.” Looking at Zhou Yunqiu’s crumbling expression, Jiang Huaiyan suddenly felt deep regret. No matter how bad the man was, he was still Zhou Yunqiu’s father. Saying this had undoubtedly shattered the image of his father in his heart.
“You don’t need to say sorry to me. We will investigate this together,” Zhou Yunqiu’s voice trembled slightly. “But before we find the truth, I want to date you.”
The bleakness in Jiang Huaiyan’s eyes was instantly replaced by light.
“Once the result comes out, I will accept whatever decision you make.” Zhou Yunqiu knew deep down that if his father really was the killer, a permanent chasm would exist between them. He wouldn’t be able to force Jiang Huaiyan to be with him like before; that would be like carving out his heart. But he didn’t want to miss out now. At least until the truth was clear, they still had time for a profound romance.
“I’m not afraid of a future breakup; I’m only afraid you won’t even give me a beginning.”
Jiang Huaiyan could no longer suppress his excitement and pulled Zhou Yunqiu into a tight embrace.
“By doing this… you agree?”
“As long as you don’t regret it…”
“I don’t regret it.”
Jiang Huaiyan held him even tighter, as if trying to melt him into his very blood and bone.
Zhou Yunqiu, however, reached out to feel around on him. “At this very moment, shouldn’t we have something more intense?”
