- Chapter 37 - You Want a Baby?
Jiang Huaiyan had medication that could hide his pheromones. As long as he didn’t mark him… it would be fine.
After finishing the movie, the two returned home hand-in-hand. Just as they were preparing for bed, Duan Mingxu suddenly called Jiang Huaiyan.
Jiang Huaiyan frowned and answered.
“Something happened.”
Jiang Huaiyan’s heart skipped a beat. “What is it?”
“The old man caught me!” Duan Mingxu wailed. “I don’t know when I’ll be let out this time. I need to trouble you to keep an eye on things at the company.”
Jiang Huaiyan: “…I told you to stop messing around. Why on earth are you pursuing Zhou Yunqing? There are plenty of Omegas around for you to choose from.”
“None of them smell as good as Zhou Yunqing.”
“Smell?” Jiang Huaiyan felt something was off with Duan Mingxu.
“I really never realized I liked his type before. That cold, indifferent aura of his… it gives me one hell of a reaction.”
Jiang Huaiyan: “…”
“Even if he told the old man, I’m not giving up.”
Jiang Huaiyan rubbed the bridge of his nose helplessly. “A forced melon isn’t sweet.”
“I’ll only know if it’s sweet once I’ve tasted it. Even if it’s bitter, I have to try.”
“You’re truly beyond saving.” He remembered how Duan Mingxu used to be the one telling him to stay sober.
“Back at you,” Duan Mingxu said, giving a few more instructions before hanging up.
Jiang Huaiyan had planned to go straight to sleep, but now sleep was out of the question; he had to handle the matters Duan Mingxu had left behind. He went to the bathroom door and spoke to Zhou Yunqiu, who was currently showering. “Little Young Master, go to sleep once you’re done. I have some work to handle, so don’t wait up for me.”
“Huh? Are you going out?” Zhou Yunqiu pulled the door open slightly, poking his head out. His face was flushed so pink it made one want to take a bite.
Jiang Huaiyan quickly looked away. “Not going out. I’ll be in the study.”
“Then go ahead. Don’t work too late; get some rest early.”
“Alright.”
When Zhou Yunqiu finished his shower, he didn’t go to the study to disturb Jiang Huaiyan. His exams were coming up, so he needed to study. This exam was crucial; he had to pass it in one go. However, as he read, he eventually fell asleep.
In the middle of the night, the temperature dropped, and he was woken up by the cold. Instinctively, he reached out for Jiang Huaiyan, who had been sleeping with him for many days now, but the space beside him was empty. There was only the soft quilt, devoid of Jiang Huaiyan’s warmth.
He snapped awake. What time was it? Why hadn’t Jiang Huaiyan come to bed yet?
He squinted, rubbing his neck which was sore from sleeping in an awkward position, and checked the time on his phone. 2:00 AM. Still not sleeping.
Zhou Yunqiu got up to find him in the study. Pushing the door open, he overheard Jiang Huaiyan on a call, mentioning his father’s name, Zhou Yushen.
Hearing the movement, Jiang Huaiyan immediately said, “We’ll talk at dawn. Hanging up now.” He ended the call and looked at Zhou Yunqiu. “Why are you awake?”
“Who were you just talking to? Does it have to do with my dad?” Zhou Yunqiu asked tonelessly, his eyes fixed seriously on Jiang Huaiyan.
Jiang Huaiyan pulled him into an embrace. “No. His name just came up in passing. Why are your hands so cold?”
Zhou Yunqiu ignored the question and asked his own: “Was it really just in passing?” This wasn’t the first time he had heard his father’s name from Jiang Huaiyan’s lips.
“Mm. Don’t overthink it.” Jiang Huaiyan led him back to the bedroom.
Zhou Yunqiu followed behind him, watching his back with a heart full of doubt. But he couldn’t make sense of it, and he didn’t want to dwell on it.
Lying in bed, he leaned into Jiang Huaiyan’s arms and asked, “Will you hurt my brother or my dad? I want the truth.”
“No.” Given Zhou Yushen’s current state, he didn’t have much longer to live; there was no need for Jiang Huaiyan to do anything. As for Zhou Yunqing, he had no intention of acting against him either.
The grudges of the older generation had nothing to do with the children. If Zhou Yushen really did hurt his mother, the most Jiang Huaiyan would do is cut ties with the two brothers forever.
“I believe you.” Zhou Yunqiu leaned against him and closed his eyes to sleep. No matter what purpose Jiang Huaiyan had for coming to his side, he would always remember the kindness the man had shown him. As long as his family wasn’t harmed, he could endure anything else.
For the next few days, Zhou Yunqiu was exceptionally well-behaved. He stayed home to study every day and didn’t pester Jiang Huaiyan, aside from demanding a daily kiss.
As the exam date approached, Zhou Yunqiu grew increasingly excited. His Heat was scheduled for the day after the exam. Once he finished the test, he could welcome the most important day of his life!
On the morning of the exam, Zhou Yunqiu got up early. Jiang Huaiyan prepared breakfast for him to eat on the way. As they were leaving, Zhou Yunqiu’s shoelace suddenly came undone.
“Don’t move, I’ve got it.” Jiang Huaiyan knelt down to tie the lace.
Looking at the man’s tall silhouette, Zhou Yunqiu suddenly asked, “Jiang Huaiyan, do you like babies?”
Jiang Huaiyan looked up with a frown. “What are you thinking about?”
“I’m an Omega.”
“You want a baby?” Jiang Huaiyan finished the knot and stood up to look at him.
The boy thought about it, then shook his head. “Not yet. I’m still a baby myself.”
“Then that’s that.” Jiang Huaiyan ruffled his hair and ushered him out. “Today is important. Don’t think about random things.”
“You have to remember to pick me up. I’ll come out as soon as the exam is over.”
“Don’t worry.”
“Will you… have things prepared?” Zhou Yunqiu asked, his face flushing.
Jiang Huaiyan didn’t catch on immediately. “What things?”
Zhou Yunqiu: “…No babies.”
Jiang Huaiyan understood instantly, and a hint of bashfulness appeared in his deep eyes as well. “I’ll have them prepared. You don’t need to worry about any of that.”
“Then I’m leaving it all to you.”
“Mm. Trust me, my Little Young Master.”
“And you have to prepare lots of delicious food. Three days will consume a lot of energy.”
Jiang Huaiyan looked at Zhou Yunqiu as he sat in the car and suddenly braced his hand against the door. “You’re suddenly being so talkative—are you nervous?”
“I am not!” Zhou Yunqiu retorted, though in truth, he was panic-stricken. Despite all his previous teasing, now that it was actually about to happen, he was a little scared.
“Don’t be nervous. Leave everything to me.” Jiang Huaiyan kissed him on the temple, helped him fasten his seatbelt, and closed the door.
The car soon reached the school. Zhou Yunqiu got out and waved with a smile. “Remember to come pick me up!”
“I promise.” Jiang Huaiyan watched his smiling face, his heart fluttering. He realized he was truly fallen—fallen for this Omega, Zhou Yunqiu.
If Zhou Yushen really was involved in his mother’s death, what should he do? How could he bear to let go of Zhou Yunqiu? He was so wonderful.
While Zhou Yunqiu was taking his exam, Jiang Huaiyan went to the supermarket. For the next three days, they wouldn’t be leaving the house; he had to prepare enough ingredients for two people for three days, especially meat. Zhou Yunqiu loved meat—all kinds of it. But he had said the “meat” he wanted to eat most was Jiang Huaiyan himself.
Jiang Huaiyan couldn’t help but chuckle as he selected the groceries. Along with the ingredients, he picked up plenty of fruit and snacks that Zhou Yunqiu liked. Finally, he went to the adult products section and picked up several boxes of protection. Zhou Yunqiu didn’t want a baby, so he had to be careful.
After buying everything, Jiang Huaiyan received a call from Zhou Yunqing.
“Tomorrow is Qiuqiu’s Heat. How do you plan to help him?” Zhou Yunqing asked bluntly.
Jiang Huaiyan didn’t dare tell the truth. “…High-potency suppressants.”
“Are you sure?”
“Mm.”
“Jiang Huaiyan, I’m entrusting my brother to you. I hope you can take good care of him and not let any ‘accidents’ happen.” Jiang Huaiyan wasn’t entirely sure what he meant by “accidents.”
“If you can’t handle him, send him to my place.”
“Understood.”
“Make sure to bring him straight back to the villa after the exam today. Once you’re back, don’t come out, and don’t let anyone in no matter who calls.” Zhou Yunqing gave the instructions seriously, sounding like an old father constantly worrying about his son.
“Rest assured, Eldest Young Master.”
11:00 AM.
Jiang Huaiyan waited at the school gate thirty minutes early. As soon as the bell rang, he got out of the car and watched the gate, desperate to see Zhou Yunqiu’s figure. However, batch after batch of students came out, and still, there was no sign of him.
Jiang Huaiyan’s heart instantly grew tense. He dialed Zhou Yunqiu’s number. It went unanswered.
What was going on? The exam was over, yet he hadn’t come out. Had he been delayed by something? He warily checked the GPS location on his phone. The tracker showed that Zhou Yunqiu’s phone was still on campus.
Jiang Huaiyan waited a while longer. As the crowd at the gate thinned out, he suddenly realized something was wrong. Zhou Yunqiu had been looking forward to this day so much; he wouldn’t stay delayed at school for this long.
The GPS… if the phone was left at school, the location would remain there.
Jiang Huaiyan sprinted into the school and found the classroom where Zhou Yunqiu had taken his exam. There was no one inside.
An unprecedented wave of panic rose in Jiang Huaiyan’s heart. Zhou Yunqiu was missing—right under his nose. And it was right as he was about to enter his Heat. If he wasn’t found today, the consequences would be unthinkable.
