- Chapter 33 - Desperately Needing Alpha Pheromones for Comfort
“I heard… that thing is very pleasurable. It’s easy to get addicted.” A faint shade of pink uncontrollably rose up Zhou Yunqiu’s face, which was usually as thick as a city wall.
Jiang Huaiyan looked at him in surprise. “You actually know how to blush?”
Embarrassed by the comment, Zhou Yunqiu’s ears turned red as well. He glared at the man in sheepish annoyance. “Jiang Huaiyan!”
Jiang Huaiyan gave an awkward cough. “Who told you that?”
“Shaoqin told me! The internet says so, too. I’ve even seen movies where the protagonists looked very happy.”
“It’s fake,” Jiang Huaiyan said deliberately.
Zhou Yunqiu: “??? How do you know? Have you tried it?”
“No.”
“Then how can you say it’s fake? When I see you ‘having a reaction,’ you seem to be enjoying yourself quite a bit.” As he spoke, Zhou Yunqiu unceremoniously reached out and felt Jiang Huaiyan’s abdominal muscles through his clothes. “Besides, you have such a great body. It would be a waste if I didn’t ‘eat’ you.”
His breathing grew heavy as Jiang Huaiyan caught the boy’s wandering hands. “You’ve just been in a car accident and you still can’t behave!”
“If I’m too well-behaved, I’ll never get to sleep with you. Whether it’s pleasurable or painful, I have to try it for myself.” Zhou Yunqiu pointed at Jiang Huaiyan. “I’m using you as my test subject. You promised me.”
Jiang Huaiyan: “…”
“If you go back on your word, don’t blame me for losing my temper with you.”
“You need to rest. It’s not appropriate to think about these things when your health is poor.” Jiang Huaiyan dropped the subject and tucked the boy’s hands back under the thin quilt.
“Kiss me and then I’ll sleep.”
“Little Young Master, this is a hospital. Have some decorum,” Jiang Huaiyan said helplessly.
Zhou Yunqiu gave a dissatisfied hum, turned his head away, and closed his eyes to ignore him.
Looking at the angry little face, Jiang Huaiyan helplessly leaned over and placed a tender kiss on his forehead. “Be good. Recoup your health first. Only when you’re well can you think about the things you want.”
The corners of Zhou Yunqiu’s mouth curled up, and he happily drifted off to sleep.
For the next two days, Jiang Huaiyan remained in the ward to look after Zhou Yunqiu. After those initial couple of days, Zhou Yunqiu’s spirits and appetite recovered significantly.
Jiang Huaiyan went back to the villa to personally cook the boy’s favorite dishes. When he brought the food to the hospital, he found that Xiao Yi had arrived.
“Ji—Brother Jiang.” Upon seeing him, Xiao Yi quickly stood up and called out to him nervously.
Jiang Huaiyan ignored him, taking out the prepared food and placing it on the bedside cabinet. Seeing his cold indifference, Xiao Yi’s eyes began to sting.
“Xiao Yi, have you eaten yet?” Zhou Yunqiu asked, seeing that Xiao Yi looked a bit pitiful.
Xiao Yi shook his head, looking at Zhou Yunqiu with a glimmer of hope in his eyes. Zhou Yunqiu had mentioned earlier that Jiang Huaiyan went back to cook for him; Xiao Yi had deliberately lingered until now because he not only wanted to see Jiang Huaiyan but also wanted to taste his cooking. The man had never cooked for him before.
“In that case, how about…”
Before Zhou Yunqiu could finish, Jiang Huaiyan interrupted: “I only made enough for the Little Young Master.”
Zhou Yunqiu: “…” How sensible. As expected of the man I chose.
Xiao Yi gave a forced smile. “It’s fine. I’ll just head back and eat later.”
Jiang Huaiyan urged Zhou Yunqiu: “Sit up properly and eat.”
Zhou Yunqiu didn’t move. “I’m so tired. I don’t want to move.”
Jiang Huaiyan adjusted the bed, raising the back so the boy could lean against it.
Zhou Yunqiu gave a soft, whiny hum. “My hands hurt, too.”
Resigned to his fate, Jiang Huaiyan sat by his side and picked up the chopsticks to feed him. Zhou Yunqiu opened his mouth obediently, basking in Jiang Huaiyan’s service.
“This meat is so delicious. I want more.” Zhou Yunqiu pointed to the braised pork.
Jiang Huaiyan picked up a piece of green vegetable and brought it to his lips.
“No, I want meat.” Zhou Yunqiu refused the vegetable.
“You need a balanced diet of meat and vegetables right now.”
“They don’t taste good. Meat tastes good.”
“Don’t be a picky eater. Be good and eat it.”
Zhou Yunqiu pouted.
“I worked hard to stir-fry these vegetables. Are you going to make me throw them in the trash?” Jiang Huaiyan acted out a look of disappointment.
Reluctantly, Zhou Yunqiu opened his mouth and ate the vegetable. “But I can’t finish all of this by myself.”
“I’ll eat the rest.”
“Then I’ll just eat a few vegetables, and you eat the rest.”
“Alright.”
Jiang Huaiyan’s doting tone and gentle actions made Xiao Yi feel like he was going mad with jealousy. They were both young masters of noble families, both Omegas—why could Zhou Yunqiu receive Jiang Huaiyan’s devotion while he couldn’t even get a single glance? Where exactly was he inferior to Zhou Yunqiu?
Suppressing his resentment, he told Zhou Yunqiu he was leaving and hurried out of the ward before he lost control and went insane right then and there.
He ran toward the restrooms and dialed Fang Yanting’s number. “What are you doing? It’s been so long and you haven’t taken action! Zhou Yunqiu and Jiang Huaiyan are constantly hugging and clinging to each other. If you don’t act soon, Zhou Yunqiu will be pregnant with his child.”
“What’s the rush? If you have a better idea, do it yourself!” Fang Yanting barked back.
“Fine, I’ll do it myself. But then Zhou Yunqiu will end up with some other Alpha,” Xiao Yi said, a cruel smile touching his lips.
“Don’t do anything reckless. I already have a plan.”
“What plan?”
“I’ll tell you when the time is right. Don’t ruin things for me.”
“I’ll be waiting, then.”
In the Ward.
Jiang Huaiyan asked Zhou Yunqiu, “What was he doing here?”
Zhou Yunqiu knew he was referring to Xiao Yi. “To visit me! They all know about my car accident now.”
“Did he say anything else?”
“He did. He asked where you went and if you’ve been treating me well lately.”
Jiang Huaiyan’s expression remained unchanged. “That’s all?”
“You seem very concerned about what he says.” Zhou Yunqiu narrowed his eyes slightly, studying Jiang Huaiyan.
Jiang Huaiyan looked back at him candidly. “He has leverage over me, so of course I have to be on guard. But I have no interest in anything else regarding him.”
“You’d better not.” Zhou Yunqiu made a face as if he were going to bite him. “Otherwise, I won’t let you off the hook.”
Jiang Huaiyan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry and continued feeding him.
“I’m full. You eat the rest.” Zhou Yunqiu rubbed his small belly and leaned comfortably against the bed, humming a song.
Listening to the boy’s completely tone-deaf tune, Jiang Huaiyan almost burst out laughing. Zhou Yunqiu glared at him in annoyance. “You’re making fun of me!”
“I’m not.”
“You were just laughing!” Every time he sang, people laughed. He had thought Jiang Huaiyan was different, but he was laughing too.
“I was laughing because you’re cute.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“If I really looked down on you, I wouldn’t be eating your leftovers, much less letting you kiss me.”
Hearing those words, Zhou Yunqiu’s heart began to throb with a wild, rapid beat. Why did he feel so happy? Jiang Huaiyan was getting better and better at saying the right things.
Zhou Yunqiu basked in his happiness all evening, right until late into the night.
Suddenly, his leg became unbearably painful. Jiang Huaiyan called for a doctor and pushed him through various examinations. The tests showed that the issue wasn’t the wound itself, but rather his glands.
The only solution was Alpha pheromones.
As an Omega, Zhou Yunqiu’s glands desperately needed Alpha pheromones for comfort. But he didn’t have a dedicated Alpha. The hospital’s synthetic Alpha pheromones weren’t working on him, and even the painkillers had lost their effectiveness.
Jiang Huaiyan watched the Omega sobbing in pain on the bed, feeling the Alpha pheromones within his own body beginning to stir restlessly.
