- Chapter 30.2 - I love you so much, what should I do with you?
Actually, Yi Jing never felt she had grown up alone, but somehow, hearing the old lady’s loving tone, Yi Jing suddenly couldn’t hold back anymore. She buried her head by the old lady’s bedside and sadly complained: “Great-grandmother, they all bully me.”
“?”
Old master Yi, who had been struggling with mixed emotions of heartache and rejection, suddenly froze. Snapping out of his complicated feelings, he looked at Yi Jing in great shock, thinking to himself:
Who’s bullying who? That little brat Zhao Qin was almost shot to death by you, even Xie Zhonghui couldn’t escape. If this counts as being bullied, what would not being bullied look like? Killing them all?
But the old lady didn’t care about any of that.
In her eyes, Yi Jing growing up all alone to this age, without even a true blood relative in this family, was already pitiful enough.
Even if her great-granddaughter had raised her hand against others, they deserved it for harboring designs on someone they shouldn’t covet. The old lady immediately hugged Yi Jing and comforted her lovingly:
“Don’t cry, great-grandmother has heard all about it. Great-grandmother will stand up for you! My little treasure can be with whoever she wants! No one is allowed to interfere!”
The last sentence was clearly directed at old master Yi. Feeling like he had been called out, old master Yi couldn’t help but say in a low voice: “I will go inform the family about this matter in a moment.”
Yi Jing was stunned for a moment.
Did this mean, old master Yi would announce her relationship with Yu Miao to the entire Yi family? How could this difficult old man agree?!
He actually wasn’t going to make things difficult for her??
Yi Jing couldn’t figure it out for a moment, and couldn’t help but glance at old master Yi with some pleasant surprise. But he didn’t seem to want to pay her any attention at this time, so Yi Jing turned back to her great-grandmother. Unexpectedly, the old lady suddenly grabbed her hand and said:
“My good child, listen to your great-grandmother. We can do anything, everything is fine, you can like whichever omega you want. Just remember one thing – don’t consider having children too early. Promise great-grandmother, don’t rush into having kids, alright?”
“??” Yi Jing froze for two seconds. After realizing what the old lady was saying, her face suddenly turned red and she stammered: “N-no, great-grandmother, I haven’t thought about that yet.”
As Yi Jing answered, she felt her vision go dark. She seemed to still be alive, but was actually so absurd she didn’t know where she was anymore.
What on earth were they talking about?! She and Yu Miao hadn’t gotten anywhere close to that step yet! How had it progressed to the point of talking about children. Oh right, same-sex couples could have children in this world, Wow.
The old lady was quite satisfied with this answer, clearly happier. She held Yi Jing’s hand and talked for quite a while longer, carefully instructing her on some matters within the Yi family, telling her which people not to provoke. Finally, she handed over to Yi Jing some properties and collections left behind by Yi Jing’s grandmother.
Holding those weighty property certificates, Yi Jing walked out of the old Mrs. Zhao’s main room together with old master Yi. By this time, more than three hours had passed since Yi Jing first entered Jinghe Garden.
Adding the time spent getting here, the whole affair had taken over six hours to resolve. The sky outside had already darkened.
The servant beside them stepped forward first to close the door for old master Yi. Old master Yi looked at that wooden door which always seemed somewhat lonely and quiet, as if feeling nostalgic. He suddenly said to Yi Jing: “Come visit your great-grandmother more often when you have time.”
Yi Jing, who had long since composed herself, lowered her eyes to conceal her emotions, secretly glancing at the main door of the house and saying: “Yes.”
“Let’s go,” old master Yi sighed lightly, “We should head back too.”
“Alright.” Yi Jing fell a few steps behind, following old master Yi out of the main courtyard.
As they walked, old master Yi gazed at the scenery in Jinghe Garden. As he looked, it was as if he recalled some old memories, and he spoke softly with a hint of nostalgia: “Your great-grandmother didn’t tell you some things, probably because she gets very sad when she remembers them.”
“?”
Yi Jing looked up, instinctively feeling that old master Yi might be about to tell her some truths out of affection for her mother or her grandmother.
But she was still a bit surprised.
Could someone like old master Yi actually have moments of cherishing family ties?
Old master Yi clearly sensed this difference himself. He paused before speaking, his tone noticeably more detached: “You probably learned about history in your judicial system courses, right? You should know that before the current political structure was formed, the division of world regions wasn’t like it is now.
Before that, our Yi family was already a centuries-old aristocratic family. But we got caught up in that upheaval, and even aristocratic families couldn’t stay uninvolved.
At that time our Yi family was in chaos. I, your biological grandmother, and our shared elder brother were the youngest generation of the Yi family then. The situation was truly chaotic. Even the safest places could suddenly have deaths.
My elder brother, your grand-uncle, and your biological grandmother all left during that time. When she left, your mother was just a tiny thing.”
Old master Yi gestured to indicate a small size, his eyes softening slightly, though that bit of familial affection quickly dissipated.
“Your grandmother was our little sister, the youngest one. She left too early, so young, leaving behind only your mother. Your mother’s health was also poor. The Yi family wasn’t peaceful then, so there was no way to raise your mother by our side. We had to send her to a safe place.
Later you came along but your mother’s health was really too poor. She left not long after having you. You were quite a crybaby, but for some reasons, I still decided to send you to be raised by distant relatives of the Yi family – your aunt.”
Yi Jing opened her mouth, not understanding why things suddenly became so abbreviated when it came to her, with no explanation given for why she was sent away to be raised. There was also no mention of how her original mother met her lover, or who she had the original Yi Jing with.
“I…” Yi Jing thought about her identity, but no matter how she tried, she couldn’t find a character in the original story that matched up. She could only ask old master Yi directly, “Then what about my mother?”
“Don’t know,” old master Yi answered lightly.
“Huh?” Yi Jing was stunned.
“Don’t know, couldn’t find out,” old master Yi’s voice was flat. “Your mother loved that person very much and wouldn’t say who it was. We investigated but couldn’t find out.
Your intelligence probably inherited some from your mother. She was quiet and unassuming, but didn’t fall behind on anything she was supposed to learn.”
Yi Jing’s heart sank, and she instinctively jolted when she heard old master Yi’s words. Her hands and feet went cold.
This old man was indeed not easy to deal with. He didn’t say much, but each sentence was more cutting than the last.
The original Yi Jing’s mother “wouldn’t say who it was”, and the fact that they had to “investigate” the identity of that person indicated that the original mother’s marriage was not blessed at all, or perhaps there was no marriage. The conclusion that they “couldn’t find out” was also questionable – with the Yi family being so powerful, how could they fail to investigate a person?
The truth was likely that this old man had reached some agreement with the original Yi Jing’s mother, or old master Yi had confirmed that the person posed no threat before lightly glossing over this topic. Otherwise, there was no reason to be so dismissive about it. In any case, that person probably wouldn’t appear in her life.
As for that last seemingly complimentary remark, he might as well not have praised her at all.
“Seems quiet but hasn’t missed learning anything important” – isn’t this implying that she’s been up to a lot of sneaky business and private scheming behind the scenes?
Old Ding really isn’t so easily fooled after all.
But then again, the original body’s mother was quite despicable too.
What a scumbag, already having a child yet still leaving her sickly lover from a wealthy family to face such a large clan alone?
Is facing it together really such a difficult thing? They even had to investigate her identity.
Yi Jing was speechless, silently criticizing for a moment before continuing Old Master Yi’s words: “I’m probably not as smart as mom, I’m not very clever, I can only investigate cases.”
Old Master Yi, walking a bit ahead, seemed to smile and turned to look at Yi Jing, saying: “Your aunt really did raise you well.”
This time Yi Jing was unwilling to speak.
Old Master Yi didn’t say anything to her either, instead looking at the sky outside: “It’s getting late, go back and rest early. Your identity is already sensitive, you shouldn’t appear at any more banquets after this.”
“Okay.” This time Yi Jing nodded readily.
Her aunt had already instructed her to keep a low profile as much as possible. Now that she had accidentally caused trouble, it was appropriate to be more restrained. However, there was still one thing she couldn’t let go of.
“Grandfather!” Just as Old Master Yi was about to leave, Yi Jing couldn’t help but call out to him.
“What is it?” Old Master Yi turned back.
Yi Jing hesitated for a moment, feeling that asking now might seem a bit nosy, but she really couldn’t ignore it: “It’s about, my engagement.”
Old Master Yi smiled and turned around, saying: “How could there be any changes to something your great-grandmother has agreed to? As it happens, the Yi family’s closest business partners are all at this banquet. Get ready, I’ll announce your relationship publicly the day after tomorrow.”
Yi Jing’s eyes immediately lit up – this way, Yu Miao would have an official status in the Yi family!
But there was still one thing to consider.
“Grandfather!” Yi Jing caught up to Old Master Yi again, anxiously blocking his path, “Wait a moment, grandfather.”
“What else is it?” Old Master Yi frowned slightly.
“I…” Yi Jing hesitated for a moment before saying, “I do want to be with Yu Miao, but I don’t really want this news to be spread around right now. Could we just explain it to family members and those few familiar elders first?”
Old Master Yi was taken aback, not sure what he was thinking, and looked at Yi Jing with a completely unexpected expression: “You mean you don’t want to announce it publicly yet?”
“Yes.” Yi Jing nodded stubbornly.
Given the current state of her relationship with Yu Miao, it didn’t seem very appropriate to make a big announcement now. They weren’t at that level yet.
Yi Jing only wanted Yu Miao to be safe, not to feel constrained because of this.
Yu Miao didn’t have a good impression of the Yi family either. If one day Yu Miao wanted to leave the Yi family, Yi Jing hoped she could leave smoothly. She was willing to pursue Yu Miao simply as Yi Jing – just as an individual, not as some wealthy family’s descendant. But she didn’t want Yu Miao to be trapped in the Yi family for life because of her status as the fiancée of a Yi family junior.
Simply put, she hoped that the ones in a relationship would be her and Yu Miao, not the Yi family and Yu Miao.
But Old Master Yi didn’t seem to see it that way. He appeared to have misunderstood something, chuckling lightly as he replied: “That’s fine too. I also feel it’s a bit hasty to settle things between you two children just like this. Since you don’t want to announce it so rashly, let’s decide on that then.”
As he spoke, Old Master Yi lightly patted Yi Jing’s shoulder, saying approvingly: “Alright, go back and rest early, you’re tired today too. Don’t think too much about the things I discussed with your great-grandmother. Whether those things exist or not won’t have much impact on your life. Living your current life well should be the top priority.”
“Yes.” Yi Jing nodded, not bringing up anything else.
Old Master Yi then returned to the main residence’s conference room accompanied by the butler, assistant and other attendants. Yi Jing stood in place for a while before turning and walking in the completely opposite direction from Old Master Yi.
She still wanted to go see Yu Miao.
She had to personally tell Yu Miao that she was fine too.
Yi Jing walked towards the guest room where Yu Miao was staying, but unexpectedly ran into a group of people she didn’t particularly want to encounter halfway there.
“Good evening, Jing Jing.” Yi Mingyu’s gentle voice sounded. Yi Jing looked at the people standing in front of her, feeling quite helpless inside.
How did she run into them again?
The people in front of her were clearly the ones she had seen in the central garden earlier. Standing at the front was Yi Mingyu, who had pressed down her gun and claimed to be her sister. Well, now it seemed this person really was her sister.
The two people a bit further back were more unfamiliar, one male and one female. The male looked to be the youngest and seemed to have the most volatile temperament, with hostility almost bursting from his face.
Yi Jing couldn’t be bothered with her and turned to look at the girl instead. Then Yi Jing realized this girl was actually one of the people who had come with Xie Zhonghui in the afternoon.
She was among those who had stood with folded arms mocking Zhao Qin earlier, and later watched her confrontation with Xie Zhonghui as if nothing had happened.
“You are? ” Yi Jing frowned slightly.
Yi Mingyu paused for a moment, observing Yi Jing’s reaction, and shifted her body slightly to reveal her cousin behind her.
The young woman standing behind Yi Mingyu, with one hand in her pocket and an absent-minded expression, glanced at Yi Jing and said carelessly with a smile: “I’m Yi Xuan, your sister.”
Yi Xuan?
Yi Jing’s gaze subtly changed, turning cold and sharp as she looked at the other person.
So it was her.
The one responsible for doing the “dirty work” among the Yi family’s younger generation, with the most people under her command. The central figure among idle rich kids like Zhao Qin and Xie Zhongming.
“Was Xie Zhonghui with you too?” Yi Jing frowned as she spoke.
“Ah, you mean her?” Yi Xuan laughed lightly, her high heels crushing a small clump of dirt on the gravel path as she said carelessly, “That was just an accident, little sister, don’t take it so seriously. You already shot her once, she might end up with a scar. She didn’t hold it against you either.”
Yi Jing frowned, pretending not to have heard.
She wasn’t like those Yi family members who would provoke others even if they weren’t provoked first. If Xie Zhonghui hadn’t challenged her first, how would she have reacted?
Yi Mingyu’s gentle gaze swept over Yi Jing, then looked at Yi Xuan. She sighed lightly, seeming a bit helpless, and took a couple steps closer to Yi Jing to console her softly:
“Jing Jing, don’t be angry anymore. Xie Zhonghui and your second sister can be a bit showy in their actions sometimes, but they do know how to improve. Don’t be upset, okay? Did you come to see great-grandmother today?”
Yi Jing only remembered this matter when Yi Mingyu suddenly changed the subject. Running into them here meant, Yi Jing turned to look at Yi Mingyu: “Are you here to see great-grandmother too?”
“Yes,” Yi Mingyu smiled, speaking gently but pointedly, “You see, we’re truly family. Family should stand together.”
Yi Jing didn’t say anything more, just stepped to the side, staring at Yi Mingyu’s eyes with a bland expression as she made way for the path to Jinghe Garden.
“…”
Yi Mingyu likewise gazed at Yi Jing, though this time she didn’t try to speak again.
The two looked at each other meaningfully for a moment. Yi Mingyu glanced lightly at Yi Jing, finally lowering her eyes and slowly walking past Yi Jing.
Behind Yi Mingyu followed Yi Xuan and that brother she didn’t know well, along with the two servants accompanying them.
The two groups brushed past each other, both feeling the other was not on the same path as them.
Yi Jing stood in place for a while, somewhat displeased, but ultimately didn’t dwell on the matter of Yi Xuan and Yi Mingyu. In any case, if anyone tried to target Yu Miao in the future, they would be sanctioned by both the Yi family and herself. Yu Miao was truly safe now!
Thinking of Old Master Yi’s promise to announce her relationship with Yu Miao within the Yi family and those few wealthy families, Yi Jing’s mood quickly improved again.
Yi Jing happily returned to Yu Miao’s residence.
When she knocked and went back, Yu Miao had already finished her conversation and returned to her own room. She looked like she was working, with frameless glasses perched on her nose bridge, making the already alluring Yu Miao appear even more gentle and intellectual.
Yi Jing was happy just seeing Yu Miao. Now seeing Yu Miao looking somewhat different from usual, she couldn’t help but run over and hug her directly.
“?”
Even though Yi Jing liked her a lot, she had never suddenly rushed over for a hug before. Yu Miao, enveloped in Yi Jing’s faint cool fragrance, was surprised for a couple seconds and couldn’t help but raise her hand to pat the other’s head.
“What’s wrong?” Yu Miao asked.
“The old master agreed to our relationship! The whole Yi family will know that I’m dating you, dating openly and aboveboard!”
Yi Jing straightened up, holding Yu Miao’s arms as she spoke excitedly. In her excitement, even her usually cold phoenix eyes seemed to be filled with sparkling stars. The excited puppy babbled enthusiastically:
“No one will come harass you anymore, unless they deliberately want to cross me and the Yi family. From now on, they’ll all know about our relationship. What happened today won’t happen again!”
Yi Jing finished speaking and happily hugged Yu Miao again.
In her eyes, everything else could wait, only matters concerning Yu Miao had to be put first.
Yu Miao, hugged again by the silly puppy, was stunned for a moment and raised her hands to embrace Yi Jing’s waist, somewhat bewildered.
Harassing her meant crossing the Yi family?
The Yi family had become her protector too?
Unfortunately, wasn’t the Yi family the one she most wanted to bring down, expose, and take revenge on?
Yu Miao’s hand gripping Yi Jing’s shirt slowly tightened.
She realized she loved Yi Jing very much, to a degree that surprised even herself.
Originally she thought the puppy was just a puppy, a diversion in her life, an omega partner to soothe the fears brought by the various risks in her dangerous life. So even if she was a little addicted and greedy, it was normal, after all the puppy did make her feel warm.
But she didn’t expect that separating from this dependence would be far more difficult than she imagined.
The love Yi Jing gave her was like a poisonous seed. At first it was inconspicuous, seeming harmless and joyful, as if indulging a little wouldn’t matter. But after brief contact, that love silently took root, easily penetrating her heart and entangling itself in every blood vessel, making her feel agonizing pain with the slightest movement.
But she and Yi Jing seemed destined to be in opposing positions.
She had so many choices, so many things she had to do, but it seemed none of them could truly extract Yi Jing, leaving Yi Jing without any risk.
So, what should she do?
As Yu Miao pondered, she buried her face in Yi Jing’s shoulder, temporarily abandoning thoughts of hatred and revenge as if escaping, her mind filled with only Yi Jing.
What to do.
I love you so much, what should I do with you?
