- When the Possessive Omega Fell for Me
- Chapter 30.1 - I love you so much, what should I do with you?
Yi Jing followed the butler towards Jinghe Garden, feeling very puzzled the whole way.
According to the map she had memorized, there was no such place within the Yi family estate. Logically, this Jinghe Garden should be outside of the Yi family property.
But the butler was leading her towards the northern part of the estate, where there wasn’t even an aircraft landing pad, so it was impossible that they were leaving the Yi family grounds which meant this Jinghe Garden was actually inside the Yi family estate.
This was rather troubling.
If a garden like this could be hidden away, couldn’t the old master Yi also conceal a weapons depot within the estate if he wanted to?
Thinking carefully, it really wasn’t impossible.
Given the Yi family’s excessive ambition in the original story, Yi Jing wouldn’t be too surprised by anything they did.
But why did old master Yi summon her to Jinghe Garden? Hadn’t she just injured Zhao Qin? Shouldn’t he be criticizing her actions right now and deciding how to deal with her? What was the point of calling her to such a deeply hidden place?
Old master Yi surely wouldn’t want to kill her, so what could it be for?
Yi Jing followed the butler with great confusion to this mysterious location hidden within the Yi family estate, while at that very moment, old master Yi was being scolded in Jinghe Garden.
“I’m asking you! Why didn’t you bring Jingjing to see me when she came back?!”
The old lady sitting on the hospital bed, looking to be at least in her 80s but still full of spirit, was furious. As she spoke, the row of medical equipment by the bedside flashed red alarms, making the attending physician anxious and fearful. He couldn’t help but step forward to gently try to calm her.
Old master Yi fell silent for a moment, not speaking.
“You know she’s the only bloodline left from your sister!” The old lady said sadly, as if remembering something painful. “That was your sister, your own sister. My most excellent, most obedient child. If it wasn’t for you back then, how could your sister have left so early?”
Old master Yi frowned slightly, closing his eyes briefly and taking a deep breath, but didn’t respond.
Those hidden competitions had long since dissipated with the departure of the competitors. If his mother hadn’t brought it up now, old master Yi might have already forgotten about what happened back then.
Death is enough to erase all differences, whether in ability, talent, or enviable family and relationships.
Once upon a time, old master Yi felt his sister was his biggest competitor and the person most worth guarding against, yet he could never surpass her. That woman far exceeded him in ability, talent and even breadth of mind. Even her lover was so well-matched, making him pale in comparison in every aspect.
Amidst the hidden jealousy and hatred mixed with a bit of complicated familial affection, old master Yi had countless times thought about driving his sister out of the Yi family, but he never imagined letting her die. Yet that couple still ended up dying accidentally while trying to save one of his youthful strategic missteps, leaving behind only an omega girl as fragile as a kitten that seemed like she could be easily snuffed out.
His sister was just gone like that.
His elder brother was gone, and his sister was gone too.
The old lady had clearly thought of the same incident, hunching her aged back sadly and making a gesture of holding a small child: “Your sister, when your sister left, Xiaoqing was only this big, just this tiny, not even able to call out ‘mama’ yet. My poor granddaughter, born premature and weak, couldn’t even be raised at home. She finally made it to her twenties and then my poor child, why is her fate so bitter?”
Talking about Yi Jing’s mother’s departure, old master Yi also couldn’t take it anymore. He took a deep breath and said: “Mom, please don’t be sad anymore. Jingjing is very outstanding now, she’s already become a security officer in the judicial system with a bright future ahead. She will have smooth sailing.”
“Judicial system?” But the old lady seemed even angrier, slapping the blanket hard and saying, “Isn’t that even more dangerous? What good is there in chasing after criminals with those inspectors every day? Who cares about prospects! I just want her to live safely to old age! Is the Yi family unable to support one child like Jing jing? Why must she go to the judicial system?!”
Old master Yi: ” Mom, you have to consider the family.”
“What do I need to consider! Are all those people in the Yi family just freeloaders? After so many years, we’re still relying on the protection of my daughter who died early?”
The old lady’s heart rate spiked in anger: “It was like this with your sister, and the same when Xiaoqing had her accident.
Which one of them didn’t consider the family? And what was the result? Your sister is gone, Xiaoqing also left early, causing Jingjing to lose both parents shortly after birth just like her mother!”
“…” Old master Yi frowned, truly feeling annoyed now.
He knew this would be the situation once he let his mother know about Yi Jing’s return to the Yi family. He had already tried his best to avoid it, but unexpectedly that brat Zhao Qin still let it slip, Damn it.
He had controlled the Yi family for nearly half a century, long forgetting what it felt like to be under someone else’s control, and couldn’t accept anyone defying his will at all.
The current situation made him very unhappy.
Old master Yi, who had been very quiet during the conversation, suddenly spoke up: “Mom, you’re right. But this time, the one competing with Jing jing for a lover is young Qin. That gunshot was just an accident, but how should we handle this matter with Jing jing?”
Old master Yi raised his eyes to look at his own mother.
The reason the Zhao family has been so fearless all these years is because the old lady’s surname is Zhao. The mother of the Yi family head is surnamed Zhao, so no matter what, the Zhao family won’t be abandoned by the Yi family.
“You don’t need to use this to anger me,” the old lady took a sip of the ginseng tea handed over by the doctor, calming down a bit before saying, “I naturally have a decision on how to deal with the Zhao family, but no one can take away what belongs to Jingjing. Whoever she wants should be hers!”
Old master Yi lowered his eyes and said no more.
In that case, it seemed he had a plan to deal with the Zhao family. Even if he couldn’t uproot them completely to get rid of this eyesore, he could still teach them a lesson. As for that little brat Zhao Qin, she really shouldn’t appear in the Yi family estate anymore.
Capable of nothing but causing trouble.
Just then, the servant waiting in the outer room suddenly knocked on the door of the sickroom and said softly: “Old madam, Miss Jing is here.”
“What?” The old Mrs. Zhao sitting on the bed was visibly excited, “Quick, let her come in.”
Yi Jing, with an indifferent and somewhat wary expression, walked into the bedroom at that moment.
This so-called Jinghe Garden was a very traditional and even somewhat ancient Chinese courtyard, occupying the back half of the Yi family estate. Half a small mountain was included within Jinghe Garden’s area, with lush vegetation and a tranquil environment.
Originally Yi Jing thought the horse ranch that the younger Yi family members liked was already spacious enough, but unexpectedly there was an even larger facility on the back mountain.
At first Yi Jing wasn’t sure what the Yi family built such a garden here for, thinking it might be used as a private museum by those bigwigs to store their antiques.
However, after actually entering the courtyard, Yi Jing immediately realized this should be a sanatorium.
The people coming and going in the courtyard, apart from servants, were medical teams acting very professionally. The further in one went, the easier it was to see some medicinal herbs and flowers for nourishing the spirit planted in the courtyards. Even further in, large precision medical equipment appeared.
Someone in very poor physical condition must be living here, Yi Jing thought.
So who exactly did old master Yi want her to meet?
Yi Jing entered the central courtyard of the garden with some wariness, waiting for an older-looking auntie to go in and announce her before walking into that spacious room.
The main room was very large, with a full set of huanghuali wood furniture and various exquisite antiques visible at a glance. It was quite a long walk before reaching the bedroom area. Yi Jing entered the master bedroom under the servant’s guidance, and as soon as she entered, she saw old master Yi standing to one side and the old lady sitting in the center of the large bed.
She looked very old, but her aura was still domineering. Her silver hair was neatly combed, her silk clothes and fine bedding were very tidy, and simple yet elegant jade ornaments adorned her wrists, earlobes and hair, neither cumbersome nor ostentatious. She didn’t have any of the frail air of an elderly person in her twilight years.
The old lady’s spirit was clearly still good, her gaze clear and focused as she looked at Yi Jing. But after just a glance at Yi Jing, the old lady’s eyes inexplicably reddened.
Yi Jing: “?”
She felt a bit strange herself.
The old lady in front of her gave her a very different feeling. Although she could sense that the other’s personality and methods were not simple and interacting with her would probably be a bit dangerous, Yi Jing just felt this old lady was somewhat affectionate. The mixed feeling of familial affection and wariness was truly bizarre.
The old and young just stared at each other for a long while. Yi Jing had a bewildered and somewhat shocked expression, not understanding the situation at all. The old lady seemed more like she was choked up and unable to speak, just staring at Yi Jing until tears finally fell and she had to turn away to gently wipe them.
Yi Jing: “!??”
She was about to panic to death – what was going on, making an old lady cry without doing anything? Yi Jing couldn’t help but cast a pleading look towards old master Yi standing to the side.
Old master Yi, with a complicated expression, turned his face away and sighed slightly, saying: “Go talk properly with your great-grandmother.”
Yi Jing was stunned, looking at the old lady sitting on the bed in surprise.
Great-grandmother??
She had a great-grandmother??
Before this, Yi Jing had always called old master Yi “grandfather” as her aunt taught her, but she actually knew old master Yi wasn’t her biological grandfather.
Old master Yi only had three children – two aunts and one younger uncle who all had their own families. None of them were her direct blood relatives. As for old master Yi himself, he was neither warm nor cold towards her, not like a biological descendant.
Then what about this great-grandmother in front of her?
Yi Jing vaguely felt she had touched on a bit of the secret of her own background.
In the past, she had only heard some fragmented hearsay from others, without any real chance to investigate.
So would this person be her direct blood relative?
Yi Jing opened and closed her mouth, hesitating for a moment before calling out: “Great-grandmother…”
Old Mrs. Zhao sadly turned her head to wipe the corner of her eye, barely controlling her emotions. She gently beckoned to Yi Jing: “Come, Jingjing, come to your great-grandmother.”
The old lady’s expression was somewhat mournful, making Yi Jing feel at a loss. She hesitated for a moment before walking up to the old lady and softly calling out: “Great-grandmother.”
“Good!” , the old lady looked at Yi Jing for a few seconds, seemingly touching on some sad memory. The elegant and dignified old lady suddenly hugged Yi Jing and said sadly, “My child, my little treasure.”
Yi Jing looked bewildered and even a bit terrified, having no idea what was happening. On the contrary, old master Yi closed his eyes wearily and turned his head away again.
His sister’s childhood nickname was “little treasure”.
Back then his sister thought the name was silly and never let others call her that. Even when they were all still young, only their mother would call her that.
So many years had passed. Since his sister’s death, old master Yi had never heard that childhood name again.
“Child, child, you really look like your mother.” The old lady temporarily released Yi Jing, her gaze carefully scanning Yi Jing’s features, as if seeing someone from the past through Yi Jing. “You look like your mother, and also like my daughter.”
Yi Jing was stunned, opening and closing her mouth, not knowing what to say.
She knew about her mother, but who was the old lady’s daughter?
The old lady’s gaze was loving yet sorrowful as she carefully scanned Yi Jing’s face. Her hand, weathered by the years but still warm and delicate, gently caressed Yi Jing’s cheek as she said with some emotion:
“How did you suddenly grow so big? That tiny little child suddenly grew up to be this big. Your mother is gone, your grandmother is also gone, who is there to protect you? My poor little treasure, how have you been living all on your own?”
