When The Harem Novel’s Heroine Meets The Tragic Heroine - Chapter 24
Bei Miaomiao was speaking with great pride when she noticed the anxious look on Bei Qiuqiu’s face across from her was gradually replaced by one of realization. She couldn’t help but feel a sudden sense of foreboding.
Bei Qiuqiu crossed her arms and asked with an amused smile, “Is there anything else?”
She had thought Bei Miaomiao had spread some elaborate rumor about her; as it turned out, it was just about Feng Yuanhua.
Bei Miaomiao gritted her teeth secretly, putting on a hesitant, stuttering act. “Qiuqiu, tell me… did you already… ‘do it’ with that middle-aged man? Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone else.”
Bei Qiuqiu sneered. “Bei Miaomiao, not everyone is like you. Please don’t judge others by your own standards, okay?”
Yu Qingling didn’t quite understand what “that” referred to, but she could sense it wasn’t anything good. Her cold, heavy gaze fell upon Bei Miaomiao as she voiced the doubt in her heart: “Are you talking about what happened the night before last?”
Bei Miaomiao nodded quickly, thinking things had taken a turn for the better and that she had successfully ruined Bei Qiuqiu’s reputation in front of her friend.
The next moment, Yu Qingling looked deeply puzzled. “You said someone took photos. Did they somehow manage not to photograph me?”
Bei Miaomiao froze. “W-what do you mean?”
“The night before last, Qiuqiu and I entered Feng Yuanhua’s mansion together, and we didn’t leave until a day later. Did they really only catch Qiuqiu and not me?”
“This… I’m not sure.”
Yu Qingling leaned forward, her expression solemn. “Qiuqiu didn’t cling to any powerful figures. She looks down on someone like Feng Yuanhua.”
Her deadpan, serious explanation made Bei Qiuqiu burst out laughing.
Bei Miaomiao’s expression turned ugly.
Yu Qingling glanced at the girl who was still laughing despite being slandered. She felt that Bei Qiuqiu’s temper was simply too good—she didn’t even know how to fight back when being bullied and just stood there laughing like a fool. She really didn’t know how to protect herself.
Yu Qingling’s expression grew even more stern, her voice harsh as she rebuked Bei Miaomiao: “As Qiuqiu’s family, instead of helping her clear the facts, you join outsiders in throwing dirty water on her without even clarifying the truth. Aren’t you being a bit too cold-blooded and malicious?”
Bei Miaomiao’s face twitched. Things were developing in a way that was completely outside her expectations. She had the sinking feeling that she had shot herself in the foot.
Bei Qiuqiu’s laughter gradually subsided. She felt a surge of emotion—what was she supposed to do if she found herself liking this person even more?
Yu Qingling continued her warning, an intimidating aura pressing down on Bei Miaomiao. “That night on Feng Yuanhua’s property, I gave him a beating. Nothing else happened. I hope you won’t make any more wild speculations.”
Living in a peaceful era, this was the first time Bei Miaomiao had faced such bloodthirsty killing intent. Her face turned deathly pale instantly, and cold sweat broke out. She felt a sudden, desperate urge to flee the room.
Yu Qingling thought for a moment and then tilted her head to ask the “silly girl” staring blankly at her, “Can you contact Feng Yuanhua? Have him come out and clarify these false rumors.”
Bei Miaomiao’s eyes widened. If Feng Yuanhua came out to clarify, wouldn’t the whole world know that nothing happened between him and Bei Qiuqiu that night?
If that happened, would Qin Anjue still readily agree to break off the engagement with Bei Qiuqiu?
She had already won over Mrs. Qin, but she hadn’t completely secured Qin Anjue yet.
At this thought, she became tongue-tied with anxiety. “N-no need! I’ll clarify it for Qiuqiu!”
Yu Qingling looked skeptical. Bei Miaomiao looked ready to swear to the heavens. “Don’t worry, I will definitely resolve this for Qiuqiu. I won’t let the students at school gossip about this anymore.”
Bei Qiuqiu snapped out of her daze. She understood perfectly what was going on in Bei Miaomiao’s head.
Looking at the trembling, stuttering Bei Miaomiao, she gave a half-smile. “Is that so? Then I’ll trouble you with it.”
Seeing that Bei Qiuqiu had agreed, Yu Qingling said, “Fine. If it’s not handled well, we’ll go find Feng Yuanhua ourselves.”
With that, she picked up her chopsticks and went back to eating her noodles.
Auntie Li brought breakfast to the table: sandwiches and hot milk.
Looking at the breakfast on her plate, Bei Miaomiao had lost all appetite. Her mind was filled with worries about whether Bei Qiuqiu would secretly go see Qin Anjue.
She stomped her foot in frustration as she watched the two of them leave the Bei family courtyard together after finishing their meal.
She had to find a way to tie Bei Qiuqiu and Feng Yuanhua together.
Liang Meiyue had just come downstairs when she saw her daughter’s distorted, furious face. She hurried over and asked in a low voice, “Miaomiao, what’s wrong? Who bullied you?”
Bei Miaomiao leaned into Liang Meiyue’s arms, shaking her mother’s arm in a panic. “Mom, nothing happened between Bei Qiuqiu and President Feng that night. What should I do? If Young Master Qin finds out, what if he doesn’t want to cancel the engagement anymore?”
Liang Meiyue’s eyes turned cold. “What happened?”
Bei Miaomiao recounted everything that had just occurred in the dining room in great detail.
Liang Meiyue glared coldly at the doorway where the two girls had disappeared, then scolded Bei Miaomiao with a look of disappointed frustration. “You’re already so old, why can’t you learn to stay calm when things happen?”
“Remember, Bei Qiuqiu is just a timid, pathetic girl who can’t hold her own. She is no match for you. Mrs. Qin is a shrewd woman; she won’t like someone like Bei Qiuqiu.”
“But…”
There are no ‘buts. Didn’t you promise to clarify the rumors for Bei Qiuqiu? Just do it. However, how you clarify it is up to you.”
She tapped Bei Miaomiao’s forehead sharply. “It doesn’t matter what others think or how they misunderstand Bei Qiuqiu. What matters is that Young Master Qin continues to misunderstand her.”
It was a revelation for Bei Miaomiao. “Mom, thank goodness I have you.”
Liang Meiyue leaned in and whispered, “As for Young Master Qin, as long as the two of you seal the deal, he will definitely take responsibility for you.”
Bei Miaomiao acted coy. “Mom, Young Master Qin has very strong self-control.”
“I’ll help you get some medicine. Imported stuff. I guarantee it works.”
Bei Miaomiao’s face instantly turned bright red.
Auntie Li chose that moment to emerge from the kitchen. “Madam, good morning. Breakfast is ready.”
Their private conversation interrupted, the mother and daughter ate their breakfast in silence, tacitly agreeing not to mention the previous topic again.
Outside the martial arts hall, the sports car slowed to a stop. Yu Qingling opened the door, hopped out, closed it, and turned back to wave goodbye.
This scene happened to be caught by Xiao Li, who was rushing to work while wolfing down a jianbing guozi. She couldn’t see the person in the driver’s seat clearly, but that didn’t stop her gossip-loving heart from fluttering.
She caught up to Yu Qingling in three quick steps, swallowing the mouthful of food like a glutton. Her tone was highly exaggerated. “Coach Yu, not bad!”
Yu Qingling: “?”
Xiao Li leaned in, full of gossip. “A total ‘Tall, Rich, and Handsome’! This one is way better than that… uh, whoever it was yesterday! By the way, how old is your ‘special someone’?”
Yu Qingling was utterly confused. “Which one?”
“Stop pretending! The one who dropped you off for work.”
Yu Qingling realized what she meant. “She is younger than me.”
Xiao Li gasped, freezing in her tracks. “It’s a younger one! I love shipping ‘older woman/younger man’ couples!
Yu Qingling was once again filled with question marks. She didn’t understand a word of it and turned to walk away.
Xiao Li hurried after her, bumping her shoulder playfully. “Coach Yu, don’t hide it from us. Remember to bring him along to the next company gathering.”
Yu Qingling used a flat “Oh” to hide her complete ignorance of what the other woman was talking about, quickening her pace.
Unfortunately, Xiao Li couldn’t sense her desire to escape and stayed hot on her heels. “Is he handsome? Can you tell me about him, Coach Yu?”
Yu Qingling stopped and glanced back with a look of confusion. “Pretty. She is very pretty.”
Then she entered the changing room and locked the door.
Xiao Li stood there deep in thought, muttering to herself, “A pretty younger brother? Then he must be the ‘tsundere’ type? Or maybe the ‘yandere’ type?”
She wanted to ask more, but it was time to start work. Seeing her supervisor walking over, she scurried back to her workstation.
