When The Harem Novel’s Heroine Meets The Tragic Heroine - Chapter 23
Bei Qiuqiu caught sight of Yu Qingling from the corner of her eye and hurried over, carrying a bowl of freshly made noodles with soybean paste. “Sister, I made this. Why don’t you try it and see how it tastes?”
Auntie Li gave the girl—whom she had never seen before—a surprised look, then helped Bei Qiuqiu serve another bowl of the noodles.
The two of them sat side-by-side at the dining table in the living room to eat breakfast.
After two hours of morning exercise, Yu Qingling was already starving and began to eat in large bites. She ate quickly, yet she didn’t look like she was wolfing it down; instead, there was a crisp, efficient elegance to her movements.
Though it was a very simple, home-cooked meal, Yu Qingling felt it was the best thing she had eaten since arriving in this world. The bowl of noodles was gone in no time. She set down her chopsticks and asked politely, “Is there any more?”
Bei Qiuqiu hadn’t taken a single bite yet; she had been too busy admiring the beautiful woman eating. Feeling immensely satisfied, she took the bowl. “There is! I’ll go get you another one.”
With a face full of smiles, she ran back into the kitchen, clutching the bowl.
Yu Qingling’s reaction was undoubtedly an affirmation of her culinary skills. Immersed in joy, Bei Qiuqiu didn’t notice Bei Miaomiao coming down the stairs; her eyes and heart were full only of her beloved wanting to eat the noodles she had made.
Seeing Bei Qiuqiu run into the kitchen, Bei Miaomiao let out a contemptuous snort: “Born to be a servant.”
She walked down slowly, rounded the corner, and was suddenly caught off guard as she locked eyes with Yu Qingling’s dark, cold gaze.
This was a beautiful woman whose looks and aura completely overwhelmed her own. Bei Miaomiao instantly became wary, and her pace slowed significantly.
Bei Qiuqiu finished serving another bowl of noodles and came dashing out, shouting excitedly, “Sister, the noodles are here!”
Bei Miaomiao turned around. Seeing Bei Qiuqiu’s beaming face and flattering demeanor as she carefully approached with the bowl, Miaomiao reluctantly reached out her hand to take it.
In the next moment, Bei Qiuqiu completely ignored her outstretched hand, walked right past her, and placed the fragrant breakfast in front of the stranger.
Bei Miaomiao’s face flushed between green and red. She withdrew her hand and clenched it into a fist, finally realizing that the “sister” Bei Qiuqiu was calling out to wasn’t her.
Yu Qingling offered a polite thanks and went back to eating.
The aroma of the food wafted into Bei Miaomiao’s nose. A wave of hunger hit her, and her stomach let out two loud, rumbling growls. The sound was so prominent that Bei Qiuqiu finally noticed her presence.
Since becoming the eldest daughter of the Bei family, it had been many years since Bei Miaomiao had faced such an embarrassing situation due to hunger.
She glared at Auntie Li and spoke in an arrogant tone, “Auntie Li, hurry up and serve me a bowl of noodles.”
Auntie Li looked troubled. “Eldest Miss, Madam instructed yesterday that breakfast this morning would be sandwiches and milk. Please wait a moment, the sandwiches will be ready shortly.”
Bei Miaomiao’s anger flared. “Then why are they eating noodles?”
Auntie Li replied awkwardly, “The Second Miss made these noodles herself.”
Bei Qiuqiu raised an eyebrow. “There’s none left. If you want some, go make it yourself.”
Worried that the conflict between the sisters would escalate, Auntie Li quickly intervened, “Eldest Miss, please wait a moment. I’ll make breakfast right now.”
In a fit of pique, Bei Miaomiao sat down on the other side of the dining table.
Bei Qiuqiu deliberately ignored her and turned to speak to Yu Qingling. “Sister, what time do you go to work?”
“Nine o’clock.”
“I don’t have class until ten-thirty. I’ll drop you off at work first, then head to school myself.”
“Alright.”
“Sister… will that Xiao Qingtian come looking for you again today?”
“I am his private coach. We have private lessons every evening.”
“How much longer do you have to teach him?”
“One month.”
Bei Qiuqiu lowered her head to eat while pondering how to drive Xiao Qingtian away from Yu Qingling’s side.
A silence fell over the dining room, but even in the silence, the atmosphere between the two of them was harmonious.
Sitting at the table waiting for breakfast, Bei Miaomiao had a strange illusion—as if they were sisters, while she was nothing more than visible air.
Realizing this, Bei Miaomiao became frustrated again. Whenever she was unhappy, she sought to make Bei Qiuqiu miserable. Her eyes darted back and forth between Bei Qiuqiu and Yu Qingling.
Recalling how Bei Qiuqiu seemed like a completely different person in front of this beautiful woman, she vaguely guessed how important this person was to her.
If she let the other party know about Bei Qiuqiu’s “untold side,” things would surely become very interesting.
With that thought, Bei Miaomiao immediately adopted a look of feigned embarrassment. “Qiuqiu, you probably don’t know yet, but the campus forums are all saying that you’ve been actively seducing balding, middle-aged men just to cling to power and marry into a real wealthy family.”
It was a low-handed tactic, but it successfully provoked Bei Qiuqiu.
Bei Qiuqiu stole a glance at Yu Qingling and saw her set down her chopsticks. Her heart instantly jumped into her throat.
Bei Miaomiao continued her performance. “Qiuqiu, I really wanted to testify for you and say you aren’t that kind of person, but you really didn’t come home that whole night. I can’t lie…”
Seeing Bei Qiuqiu grow anxious, Bei Miaomiao felt triumphant. She pressed on, “Furthermore, you were caught on camera entering a middle-aged man’s luxury mansion late at night, and you didn’t come out until the following evening.”
