When A Commoner Carries The Child Of A Stranger Alpha - Chapter 13
When the roses began to sprout buds, the matter of the District 7 identification bracelets was finally implemented.
Ji Weishi, of course, was well aware of this. It was nothing more than Qin Miao acting out of desperation, unable to drag things out any longer.
He had heard that this S-class Omega was capable of sensing the rut periods of their few S-class Alphas. Presumably, Qin Miao had initially wanted to use his own rut as an opportunity to kill him quickly, but had failed to pull it off.
Then, Qin Miao wanted to hunt him down in District 7 without causing a massive uproar, but unfortunately, he failed at that too. Instead, he stirred up a whole hornets’ nest of trouble, leaving even his own son deeply dissatisfied.
Ji Weishi had already instructed Qi Qiushui to prepare a bracelet for him in advance. If they wanted to check, they could check whenever they pleased.
He seriously doubted that Qin Miao and his cronies would descend to look for him personally. Otherwise, given that his information was classified within the Alliance and his photographs couldn’t be leaked, any other Arbitrator wouldn’t recognize him even if they stared right at him.
To his surprise, when Shen Buqi returned, he was holding a bracelet in his hand.
It was precisely the identification bracelet for District 7.
With a perfectly calm expression, Shen Buqi laid out the packed meal, walked lightly behind Ji Weishi, and called out to him softly, “A-Shi, time to eat.”
Ji Weishi also kept his composure. A brilliant, radiant smile blossomed on his face as he replied, “Alright.” Yet, as he washed his hands, his gaze turned sharp and piercing.
He was actually quite eager to see how this person would handle the situation.
Just as Ji Weishi pulled out his chair, Shen Buqi naturally brought the bracelet over. “A-Shi, try this bracelet on and see if it fits.”
Qin Miao had spared no expense; the bracelet was crafted from excellent materials. Not only did it adjust its size automatically, but it was also form fitting and comfortable against the skin. Under the sunlight, it shimmered with a faint metallic glow, and the few embedded diamonds gleamed with a soft, watery blue light.
It truly reflected an Omega’s aesthetic, exquisitely beautiful.
However, Ji Weishi raised an eyebrow. This was obviously not meant for him; it should belong to the person standing right in front of him.
Since these bracelets were meant to verify identity, everyone surely only received one. If there was only one, and Shen Buqi just handed it over to him like this…
Yet, Shen Buqi was entirely oblivious to the stormy waves of shock crashing through the mind of the man before him. He was completely focused on adjusting the direction and position of the bracelet.
He wanted to make sure Ji Weishi wore it as comfortably as possible. Once secured, the cool white wrist paired with the watery blue silver diamonds exuded a sort of indescribable, innate nobility.
So beautiful.
When A-Shi puts on his actual gift, he will definitely look just as beautiful.
Filled with satisfaction, Shen Buqi found that even his lunch tasted better.
Because Ji Weishi had claimed he couldn’t swallow his food if he ate alone, the meals Shen Buqi fetched every day had doubled to two portions.
Even though Shen Buqi ate it, he couldn’t taste anything particularly delicious about it.
Ji Weishi picked up some food with his chopsticks and asked with feigned casualness, “Xiao Yi, what is this?”
Shen Buqi answered honestly, “It’s the District 7 identification bracelet.”
Ji Weishi pretended to be innocent, “But I’m not from District 7. Why do I have a bracelet?”
Shen Buqi: “It’s mine.”
Ji Weishi immediately put on a display of refusal, his eyes welling up with a hint of redness. “Xiao Yi, you can’t do this. If I wear it, what will you wear? It’s very dangerous.”
Shen Buqi froze for a moment, not understanding why the person in front of him was feeling distressed.
Dangerous? Why would it be dangerous?
He knit his brows, only later realizing that not wearing this might cause someone to be targeted by operatives sent from other districts.
He breathed a sigh of relief inwardly. Fortunately, before collecting it, he had overheard them saying that this could be worn by others, otherwise, wouldn’t A-Shi be in danger?
He quickly reassured him, “It’s fine. I’m not an Alpha, and everyone in District 7 knows me. Nothing will happen.”
And besides, I’m very good at fighting.
He chose to leave that last point unsaid, thinking it sounded too brutal and that A-Shi wouldn’t like it.
Ji Weishi had never truly intended to give it back anyway. Half-yielding and half-accepting, he put on another performance of being deeply moved. Full and content after the meal, he wrapped his arm around Shen Buqi, wanting to go play on the swing.
Shen Buqi agreed. Ever since they returned from District 2 last time, Ji Weishi had pestered Shen Buqi to build a swing here as well. However, once it was built, he never sat on it himself, insisting only that Shen Buqi use it.
The body soaring high up, the thrill of controlling everything, the fluttering hem of clothes sweeping through the air.
Ji Weishi was deeply infatuated with this sensation. It felt as though he held a butterfly in his hands, its fluttering wings reduced to begging him for mercy.
And he would only need to gently rub his fingertips together, and the butterfly would tremble, its wings would fracture, falling helplessly into his palm.
How could Shen Buqi possibly know that he had become the butterfly to this rose?
As he swung higher and higher, his mind actually grew sharper. He clearly spotted a group of men dressed in black investigating something several streets away. His pupils contracted sharply, and he hurriedly called out for it to stop.
The swing settled steadily into the palms of the man behind him, and the butterfly flew straight into his embrace.
Ji Weishi curled his lips into a smile. Just as he was about to step around to the front to lead his butterfly down, Shen Buqi had already grabbed him and started walking toward the house.
“A-Shi, I saw some people in black clothes over there. They look a lot like the ones from that night, the Arbitrators. It looks like they’re searching for someone.”
He was so anxious that his words were nearly jumbled, but Ji Weishi remained completely relaxed. He uttered a casual “Mm,” his gaze locked tightly onto the prominent spinal process on the back of Shen Buqi’s neck beneath his black hair.
Connecting his mental power to his optical computer, it was exactly as expected, this was another mess stirred up by Qin Miao and his people. However, upon closer inspection of the bracelet tracking, it turned out this wasn’t Qin Miao’s doing, but rather Qin Che’s.
Ji Weishi’s mind spun as he figured out what was happening. Qin Che was definitely trying to muscle his way into District 7’s affairs, and he was actively working against Qin Miao.
This bracelet initiative was likely a preemptive strike to prevent Qin Miao from gaining the upper hand.
But because of his interference, all identity information for District 7 had been uploaded into District 1’s database. Qin Miao could no longer investigate people out in the open, which meant Ji Weishi had blundered into temporary safety.
That explained why Qin Miao was genuinely backed into a corner now.
He had actually gone so far as to deploy Arbitrators here.
Ji Weishi naturally felt no fear. Unless they went on an absolute killing spree, they wouldn’t be able to find anything through a routine check.
Shen Buqi, however, knew nothing about the rules governing the circles of these high-ranking rulers. He was so anxious that sweat was practically breaking out on his forehead.
Where could they hide to be safe?
One moment he felt the house windows were too large and people could see inside clearly, the next moment he said the place was too empty and someone would spot them the second they walked in. After weighing the options over and over, the basement seemed like the best place.
But he couldn’t bear to do it.
He couldn’t bear to let his rose stay in such a cold, damp place, not even for a single second.
Amidst his hesitation, the doorbell rang.
Ji Weishi wasn’t panicked in the slightest. He leaned down and nuzzled Shen Buqi’s shoulder, “Xiao Yi, go open the door. I’ll just stay right behind you.”
Shen Buqi had no choice but to grit his teeth and open the door, once again preparing himself for a fight. When he pulled the door open, the situation was entirely different from what he had envisioned. Only a single Arbitrator in a black uniform stood outside.
He produced his identification badge: “Hello, I am Arbitrator No. 4 from District 2. Please forgive the intrusion for this cross district mission.”
With that, he offered a polite smile: “We are conducting a gender screening. May I ask the genders of you and your partner?”
Shen Buqi stood frozen in place, his lips trembling, unsure of how to respond. Instead, Ji Weishi took a step forward from behind him and answered smoothly, “I am an Alpha. My partner,”
He glanced at Shen Buqi, the corners of his lips tilting upward:
“Is a Beta.”
Over on his side, the Arbitrator logged the information and said, “Alright. Additionally, I notice only one of you is wearing an identification bracelet. Please make sure to both have them on as soon as possible. The primary purpose of the bracelets is to ensure the safety of every citizen in the Alliance, there is absolutely no discriminatory intent. We hope you understand.”
He presented his badge once more. “The investigation is complete. Thank you for your cooperation. The Arbitrator Group is pleased to be of service to you.”
Watching him walk away, Shen Buqi quickly shut the door, finally feeling his heartbeat return to a normal warmth after a long moment of panic.
Did it really just end that easily?
Shen Buqi tightly hugged Ji Weishi beside him, only truly feeling at ease once he confirmed the man was still safely by his side.
Ji Weishi returned the embrace, but his mind was calculating: A very standard Arbitrator procedure. But what exactly is Qin Miao trying to pull with this move?
The moment he saw the badge, he knew nothing would come of it. A D-class Arbitrator probably didn’t even possess the authority to forcibly check a citizen’s gender secondary dynamics.
However, a simple gender screening hardly seemed like something Qin Miao would orchestrate.
Shen Buqi was completely unaware of the specific ranks and privileges of the Arbitrators. He held Ji Weishi tightly for a short while before letting go, then carefully inspected the bracelet once more to ensure everything was secure.
When it was time to go to work, he wanted to tell Ji Weishi not to wander outside, but then he remembered that Mimi loved playing outdoors. He hadn’t forgotten to feed the cat over the past couple of days; every time it ate its fill, it would head right back out.
Come to think of it, whether it was a human or an animal, everyone probably cherished freedom.
And so, swallowing his anxiety, he checked Ji Weishi’s bracelet one more time before saying reluctantly, “A-Shi, if you want to go out, you must wear the bracelet properly, otherwise it’s very dangerous.”
He locked the door carefully and went to work with a cautious heart.
The moment he stepped through the entrance, Chen Zixuan ran over, her face brimming with joy.
“Brother Shen, did you see Arbitrator No. 4? The one who was checking genders at noon today! He is seriously so handsome, and he’s an Alpha too! The second he arrived, he asked me if I had a gender secondary dynamic… Oh my, do you think he’s interested in me?”
Not far away, Gao Haoyang looked utterly speechless and helpless:
“Come on, Zixuan, stop talking nonsense. He asked literally everyone the exact same thing, that was just his job.”
Chen Zixuan’s excitement didn’t wane: “Oh, brother-in-law, I’m just joking! But that Arbitrator really is incredibly handsome, and so polite. I like him so much, ahhh!”
Gao Haoyang sighed, unable to manage his wife’s younger sister.
He turned to ask Shen Buqi. “Oh right, Xiao Shen, how did you answer? When I ran into them, they said that as long as you’re dating, it counts as a partner relationship, even without being married. How did you and Xiao Ji answer?”
Shen Buqi knit his brows slightly: “He didn’t ask me that question. He directly asked what genders my partner and I were.”
“Oh, is that so? Then they’re quite sharp and perceptive.”
Shen Buqi thought about it for a moment, then asked, “What does ‘dating’ mean?”
Gao Haoyang, who was currently drinking water, almost choked to death. “Cough, cough, cough… what did you say?”
Just as Shen Buqi was about to ask again, the boss walked over: “Alright, Old Gao, go get back to your work first.”
Gao Haoyang gave an affirmative nod and walked toward his workstation in a complete daze.
Seeing him walk away, Shen Buqi had no choice but to look at the boss, hoping he could answer his question.
The boss had a cigarette clamped between his teeth and took a drag. The smoke was harsh and stinging; Shen Buqi felt like he could barely see his boss’s face clearly before he heard him speak.
“If you don’t know what dating is, you at least know what marriage is, right?”
He patted Shen Buqi on the shoulder:
“If you want to get married, you have to date first. If you date well, you won’t be separated for a lifetime once you’re married.”
