What to Do If the White Moonlight Omega Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 11
The night deepened. Inside the room, Yan Qingran’s eyelashes fluttered.
The light from her phone screen gradually dimmed. She turned over, turning her back to the device. She was too exhausted; it would not be too late to check it in the morning.
Ding-dong.
The WeChat messages seemed persistent, clinging to her like a shadow. Yan Qingran knew that if she did not check them, she would most likely be unable to fall asleep. Resigned to her fate, she turned back over and picked up the phone.
Cha Yuxuan: [Voice Message] [Voice Message] [Goodnight emoji]
Voice messages? Yan Qingran habitually selected the voice-to-text option. The pale, cold light of the screen hit her face, radiating along her features and casting an enlarged silhouette onto the wall.
I am glad you made it home, Senior. If you got caught in the rain, go take a hot shower quickly so you do not catch a cold.
Man, I am so sleepy. I accidentally fell asleep just now, but I suddenly woke up and finally saw your message. You should go to sleep early too.
The dry text made Yan Qingran suddenly interested in the actual audio. She decided she would listen to them and then go straight to sleep. She shifted from lying on her side to sitting cross-legged, tucking her hair behind her ear. She wanted to hear it all in one go so she could go to bed.
Her fingertip lightly touched the screen to play the audio, and she immediately held the receiver to her ear.
“I am glad you made it home, Senior.”
The voice was slightly raspy, like aged, intoxicating whiskey, with a hint of relief hidden in the tone. Yan Qingran pursed her lips, holding her breath to listen closely. The message continued. There was the sound of fabric rustling in the background, and then she said, “If you got caught in the rain.”
There was a half-second pause here, as if she were thinking through a drowsy haze. “Go take a hot shower quickly so you do not catch a cold.”
I took one. My health is excellent; I will not catch a cold, Yan Qingran answered her in her mind.
The next voice message played. “Man, I am so sleepy.”
Yan Qingran clearly heard an exhaled yawn, followed by the sound of the person smacking their lips. “I accidentally fell asleep just now.”
I can tell, Yan Qingran thought, her lips curving into a smile.
“I suddenly woke up and finally saw your message.”
Gosh, she was a bit cute.
There was more rustling of fabric, and her voice sounded closer as she spoke. “You should go to sleep early too.”
Goodnight.
Yan Qingran held the phone microphone to her lips. She opened her mouth, but her throat felt a bit dry. After a moment of thought, she put the phone down and simply typed those two words to send back.
She let out a sigh of relief, put the phone down, and lay back on the bed. She closed her eyes and fell asleep quickly. It was a rare, peaceful rest, as if a hollow space deep in her heart had been filled.
The next morning after the rain, the air was as refreshing as a cat you want to pet, cool and intoxicating.
Cha Yuxuan, of course, did not forget the opening ceremony this morning. Upon waking up, she suddenly found over ten new friend requests. She dazed for a moment before checking the verification messages one by one.
Most were from her own college. They came from the college group chat, included their names, and mentioned wanting to be friends. Cha Yuxuan accepted them all. Others were from different colleges, calling themselves seniors and giving their names. They also said they wanted to be friends, but she had no idea where they had gotten her contact information. Suspecting they might be for sales or promotions, she ignored them.
“Should we get going? We can grab breakfast and then head to the Student Hall.” Cha Yuxuan packed her small backpack, straightened her clothes, and stood by her chair, holding her bag with one hand.
“Mhm, it is about time to leave.” Bai Hang had packed her things the night before and was now sitting leisurely, scrolling through her tablet.
“Ah, what time is it?” Yan Na quickly put down her phone and started organizing her bag.
Cha Yuxuan checked her watch. “It is seven-thirty.”
“I will be as fast as I can.” Jiang Xiaoping was still applying lipstick in front of the mirror. Because her makeup skills were unpracticed, no matter how she pursed her lips, the lip glaze remained uneven. She truly could not handle it, so she tucked the glaze into her makeup bag and ran her fingers through her hair. Forget it; she would just go as she was.
Cha Yuxuan looked at the two of them and decided to sit down and play on her phone too. It did not matter much if they left a bit late; they could just pack some breakfast to eat on the way.
First, she wanted to maintain her presence with her new acquaintances. For instance, that beautiful senior, Yan Qingran. Cha Yuxuan had placed her at the top of her list as a friend worth knowing deeply. So, she sent Yan Qingran a message: [Good morning! (Sun emoji)]
Then she sent a greeting to an old friend of many years, her Alpha best friend Wu Han. Even though they were no longer at the same university, it did not affect their deep friendship at all. She picked a random emoji and sent it: [Good morning, or not, up to you.]
Just a second before she planned to exit WeChat, a message popped up.
Bai Hang: [Image]
Cha Yuxuan was confused for a split second. They were two people sitting back-to-back in the same dorm; was there something that could not be said in person? It must be something interesting, she thought as she tapped into the chat and opened the picture.
It was an edited image. The two protagonists were clearly Yan Qingran and Cha Yuxuan herself. On the left was Yan Qingran staring affectionately into the distance, and on the right was the candid full-body photo of Cha Yuxuan taken yesterday. Two red arrows pointed out a coincidence in the background: the place Yan Qingran was looking toward was exactly where Cha Yuxuan had been standing.
The caption at the bottom read: Yan “Super Possessive” Qingran, staring at her wife online.
Before Cha Yuxuan could even take a good look at the photo, the message was withdrawn. The whole process took less than three seconds.
Why withdraw it? It was such carefully crafted gossip; she wanted to keep looking. Thinking this, she put down her phone and turned around. Bai Hang happened to turn around at the same time, and the two were caught in an unexpected gaze. One was open and honest, while the other was guilty and evasive.
Bai Hang swallowed hard, frantically telling herself that as long as she stayed calm, the other girl would not suspect her of starting the rumor. She regretted her impulsive fingers; how could she have sent it to the wrong person?
Cha Yuxuan did not notice her nervousness and asked directly what was on her mind. “The thing you just sent me, where did you see it?”
Ah? That is it?
Bai Hang felt a wave of relief and immediately offered up the Q University Student Forum as a sacrifice. There were many anonymous accounts there anyway, and it was a chaotic mess, so her “mask” would not fall off so easily.
Cha Yuxuan used her student ID to log into the forum. It was divided into sections based on discussion topics. The most active was the “Lovers Section,” filled with gossip posts, strange matchmaking activities, and feedback posts from couples showing off their relationships. She browsed for a while and concluded that these people truly had too much free time.
By the time they finally left the dorm, it was seven-forty-five. They unanimously decided to buy breakfast and eat while walking.
Only when they actually started looking for the venue did they realize how large Q University was. The walk was genuinely exhausting. They rushed the entire way without stopping, barely arriving at the scene at eight-twenty-five.
The hall was semi-circular with a stage and screen in the center. The spectator area had two tiers of seating. Their college’s arrangement was on the second floor, accessible from the side. Finding their college’s section took another ten minutes. Fortunately, the opening ceremony had not yet started, so they hurried to the aisles of their respective departments to find empty seats.
The Architecture Department had always been the main force of the college. Of course, the Urban Planning Department was not happy about it, but because of the difference in numbers, they had to swallow their pride.
When Cha Yuxuan walked to the front of the Architecture section, she was stunned. Aside from the seats already claimed, there seemed to be no vacancies left. This did not make sense; how could there be a shortage of seats?
She frowned, unable to understand it. She stood there and looked again. Once confirmed there were no seats, she went to the counselor for help.
Yi Hui led her around to find a spot but could not find any. Having no choice, he took Cha Yuxuan to the photography area at the very front of the spectator seats. He spoke to a tall, sturdy male student. “Na Liangcai, this is a freshman from our college. There are no seats left in the back, so I will have her sit with you guys for a bit. Is that okay?”
Na Liangcai looked back at Cha Yuxuan and grinned. “Sure, Senior. We have three or four extra seats here. You can bring more girls over, preferably Omegas.”
Su Meng, who had been sitting nearby playing on her phone, could not help but interject. “Senior, do not listen to his nonsense. Do not bring any Omegas here; I am afraid they would be scared by an old pervert like Na Liangcai.”
“You are full of it! I am not an old pervert, you are!” Na Liangcai babbled on. “And besides, isn’t there already a little Alpha here? She is so handsome; does she not even catch your eye?”
Su Meng put down her phone and stood up. She was about to engage in a verbal battle with Na Liangcai, but Yi Hui quickly interrupted the growing tension.
“Enough, enough, stop arguing. Do you two even have a choice? You are juniors and still cannot find partners, yet you want to compete for resources with the freshmen? Are you not ashamed?”
“Humph.” Na Liangcai and Su Meng turned their heads away in sync. “None of your business.”
Yi Hui rolled his eyes. “Fine. With the way you two act in sync, you should just get together and make do.”
Cha Yuxuan, watching the scene, thought to herself: I feel the same way.
“Who wants to ‘make do’ with him?!” Su Meng sneered. “It will never happen in this lifetime.”
Na Liangcai curled his lip. “Tsk, who cares.”
Yi Hui raised his hands in a cross in front of him. “Stop. I do not want to get involved in your business. I am leaving her in your hands; watch your behavior.” After saying that, he returned to the college section.
Cha Yuxuan, finally able to speak, said, “Hi. Good morning, Senior.”
“Good morning, little junior. Come sit here with me.” Su Meng tidied up the things on the seat and cleared three spots. “What is your name?”
“Cha Yuxuan.”
Cha Yuxuan put her backpack down and held it in her lap as she sat next to Su Meng.
Su Meng smiled playfully. “Mhm. My name is Su Meng. Want to exchange contact info?”
Na Liangcai could not help but clear his throat. “What? Are you giving up on chasing Yan Qingran?”
Although he spoke in a teasing tone, a sour smell seemed to spread through the air, like a large amount of fermented cabbage that had been sitting for years.
