What Bad Intentions Could the Heroine Have? [GL] - Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Mu Xingyu dialed Feng Chichun’s number. Before the call connected, she thought about how she should explain this situation to her.
In a short while, Feng Chichun picked up the phone. Mu Xingyu spoke first: “Chichun, I ran into Mr. Murong today. He said some things to me.”
Feng Chichun said, “As I expected, he really did come looking for you.”
Mu Xingyu blinked and asked, “Aren’t you going to ask what he said to me?”
“I can guess with my eyes closed. Did he try to persuade you to break up with me and then be with him?”
Mu Xingyu was completely shocked. She asked, “How did you know?”
“It’s hard to explain clearly over the phone. I just finished up with the matters on my end, so I’ll come to pick you up personally. We’ll talk when we meet.”
Mu Xingyu replied, “I’m across from the Oriental Building.”
“Alright, I’ve got it. I’ll be there in twenty minutes.” After saying that, Feng Chichun hung up.
Mu Xingyu put away her phone and decided to go downstairs to find a prominent spot to wait for Feng Chichun. To her surprise, after she had been standing there for a bit, Murong Huai actually came down as well.
“Mr. Murong, I hope you can stay a bit further away from me. I’m scared.”
Hearing this, Murong Huai raised his hands. “Don’t be afraid. I am a civilized man; I won’t do anything to force people.”
Mu Xingyu took two steps back. “Civilized men don’t act like the ‘other man’.”
Actually, she wasn’t afraid of Murong Huai doing anything to her; she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to resist hitting him. This guy was just too punchable.
Murong Huai said, “Acting like the ‘other man’? Miss Mu, you’ve truly misunderstood. If you break up with Feng Chichun first, then wouldn’t it not count as me being the other man?”
Mu Xingyu: “Unfortunately, I currently have no plans to break up. Furthermore, can I assume you are trying to seduce me? If you are, then I need to clarify a few points.”
Mu Xingyu cleared her throat. “From an appearance standpoint, your face isn’t as beautiful as Chichun’s, and your figure isn’t as good as hers—you’re as stiff as a steel plate. Setting aside appearance, your personality isn’t as good as Chichun’s; she is gentle and considerate. Most importantly, you lose based on gender alone. Therefore, I advise you to give up.”
Mu Xingyu found that she had nothing in common with men, and most men simply couldn’t understand a woman’s thoughts. Women were different—fragrant, soft, and they understood what you were thinking. Especially Feng Chichun; she was exceptionally empathetic, and spending time with her was very comfortable.
Murong Huai: “It seems I’ve lost miserably once again.”
Mu Xingyu caught the key information in Murong Huai’s words: Once again?
After his lament, Murong Huai said, “Since Chichun is coming in a bit, it wouldn’t be right for me to leave first. I should meet her. I wonder if you would mind, Miss Mu?”
Mu Xingyu said directly, “I mind very much.”
Murong Huai gave a helpless smile. “Even if you mind, there’s nothing to be done about it.”
Mu Xingyu resisted the urge to roll her eyes. If it was the same whether she minded or not, then why even ask?
Ten-odd minutes later, Feng Chichun arrived as promised. The moment Mu Xingyu saw Feng Chichun, a smile blossomed on her face, and she called out, “Chichun!”
Feng Chichun smiled at Mu Xingyu, but that smile vanished instantly when her gaze swept over Murong Huai. “Murong Huai, I advise you to know when to stop. If you want to compete with me for superiority in other matters, I don’t care. But trying to steal someone else’s girlfriend—isn’t that a bit too dishonorable?”
Murong Huai’s skin was as thick as a mountain: “I simply admire Miss Mu, but unfortunately, she rejected me.”
Feng Chichun said, “With me here, do you think she would choose you?”
“I lost this time, but next time—”
Before Murong Huai could finish, Feng Chichun interrupted him directly.
“There won’t be a next time.”
The smile on Murong Huai’s face finally receded somewhat. “I just wanted to win once.”
“Do you know why you lose? It’s because you want to win too much.” Immediately, Feng Chichun turned to Mu Xingyu and said, “Let’s go. It’s time for dinner.”
“Mm-hmm.”
“What do you want to eat tonight?”
Mu Xingyu thought for a moment and said, “I want to go to Chunfeng Pavilion to try the new dishes.”
Feng Chichun said, “Alright.”
Feng Chichun drove Mu Xingyu to Chunfeng Pavilion. Half an hour later, they were sitting in a private room as the waiters brought out dish after dish.
Once most of the food was served, Mu Xingyu could no longer suppress the question in her heart. She asked, “Chichun, how did you know what Murong Huai said to me?”
Feng Chichun said, “It’s simple. Given his personality, there is only one reason for him to approach you: to steal you away from me. He doesn’t actually like you; he just purely wants to compete with me to prove he is better than I am.”
Mu Xingyu couldn’t help but click her tongue. It seemed Murong Huai’s “Green Tea” attribute was truly soaked into his bones—he didn’t care about what he possessed, he just loved stealing from others.
“No wonder you told me to ignore him last time. But if we really run into each other, it’s impossible to truly ignore him.”
Feng Chichun gave an “un” sound. “That was indeed a lack of consideration on my part. I will find a way to make sure he’s too busy to come looking for you.”
Mu Xingyu thought of President Wang, who was on the verge of bankruptcy, and whispered, “It couldn’t be ‘the sky is growing cold, let the Murong family go bankrupt,’ could it?”
Feng Chichun let out a snort and a laugh. She said, “If it were really like that, I would be ‘toppling a kingdom for a beauty’ in a fit of rage.”
Mu Xingyu felt a bit embarrassed. Asking that just now made her feel a bit too self-important; there was no need for Feng Chichun to offend the Murong family for her sake.
Mu Xingyu quickly changed the subject. “It’s almost July. Didn’t you say you were going to take me to meet your parents? Should I prepare a gift in advance?”
Feng Chichun: “Are you in such a hurry? But you don’t need to worry; I’ve already prepared the gift in advance.”
Mu Xingyu hadn’t expected Feng Chichun to be so thoughtful, but a new problem arose. She had zero experience with meeting a partner’s parents; aside from bringing a gift, she knew nothing else.
Mu Xingyu was a bit worried she wouldn’t be liked, so she asked, “If I don’t perform well and your parents don’t like me, will you terminate the contract with me?”
“Whether they like you or not isn’t important. What’s important is—” Feng Chichun suddenly paused, then said, “You will definitely be liked by them. Both of my parents are quite focused on looks. You are very beautiful, so there’s absolutely no need to worry.”
Mu Xingyu felt like Feng Chichun hadn’t finished her sentence, but the second half caught her attention.
“Is it really that simple? No requirement for me to be gentle, virtuous, frugal, kind to others, and a child-lover?”
Mu Xingyu remembered that in the original novel, Feng Chichun’s mother had strongly opposed Feng Chichun being with Murong Huai and was nitpicky about him in every way—she was the standard “evil rich mother-in-law.”
Feng Chichun couldn’t help but laugh at Mu Xingyu’s words. “What are you thinking? Just be yourself when the time comes. My parents are very easy to talk to; they’re just a bit anxious about the major events in my life.”
Mu Xingyu felt that Feng Chichun wouldn’t lie to her about such a thing, so she breathed a sigh of relief.
“Let’s eat. The food will get cold if we wait any longer.”
Reminded by Feng Chichun, Mu Xingyu realized all the dishes had been served, yet she hadn’t moved her chopsticks once.
After dinner, Feng Chichun drove Mu Xingyu home. Upon arrival, Feng Chichun took a gift box from the back seat.
“I saw this today and thought you might like it, so I bought it.” Feng Chichun handed the gift box to Mu Xingyu.
Mu Xingyu took the box and asked, “Why another gift? Really, there’s no need.”
Feng Chichun said, “What if my parents ask about our dating history? How will you make it up? By saying I’ve rarely given you gifts? Do you think that’s possible? They wouldn’t believe that.”
Mu Xingyu felt that Feng Chichun’s words made a lot of sense, yet she vaguely felt something was off.
At that moment, Feng Chichun suddenly unbuckled her seatbelt and leaned toward her.
Mu Xingyu didn’t understand what Feng Chichun was doing and froze instantly.
As Feng Chichun drew closer, Mu Xingyu felt the air in the car grow thin, and her heart began to thrum like a war drum.
“Not unbuckling your seatbelt to get out? Or do you want to invite me up for a cup of tea? I wouldn’t mind.” Feng Chichun’s finger hooked the side of the seatbelt, and then she sat back in her seat.
Mu Xingyu froze for a moment before coming to her senses. It turned out Feng Chichun just wanted to help her unbuckle the seatbelt.
Invite Feng Chichun upstairs for tea… she actually wanted to, but she was afraid Feng Chichun was joking. If that were the case and she said yes, only for Feng Chichun not to want to go up, wouldn’t she be very embarrassed?
“Never mind, you’re so busy.”
Feng Chichun said, “Actually, I haven’t been very busy lately.”
“Then… it seems you won’t have to work overtime tonight.” After saying that, Mu Xingyu wanted to slap her own mouth. That wasn’t what she wanted to say!
Feng Chichun said, “Mm.”
The atmosphere in the car seemed to fall into a mysterious awkwardness. Mu Xingyu had to change the subject: “Then I’ll go upstairs first. See you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow.”
Mu Xingyu hurried upstairs with the gift. Once home, she sat on the sofa to rest for a while before remembering to open the gift.
After opening it, Mu Xingyu saw a chibi figurine inside. Most importantly, this figurine actually looked seventy to eighty percent like her.
She immediately took it out to look closely, liking it more the more she looked. She didn’t know where Feng Chichun had found a chibi figurine that looked so much like her.
Mu Xingyu placed the chibi figurine on her nightstand and poked it with a smile.
Even though this gift wasn’t expensive, she could see that Feng Chichun had picked it out carefully. Mu Xingyu felt she should also return a gift to Feng Chichun—preferably something creative and not too perfunctory.
In the blink of an eye, July arrived. In fact, only two days had passed since the day she met Murong Huai.
The noisy chirping of cicadas and the distorted heatwaves outdoors marked the arrival of midsummer. Today was the day Mu Xingyu was to meet Feng Chichun’s parents. She rummaged through her wardrobe and picked a dress that looked relatively gentle and graceful.
This style generally wouldn’t go wrong, even though the words “gentle and graceful” didn’t seem to have much to do with her.
After changing, Mu Xingyu applied light makeup according to the style of the dress. She looked at herself in the mirror and found there really was a hint of a gentle aura.
Mu Xingyu went downstairs and got into Feng Chichun’s car, noticing that Feng Chichun was dressed quite casually today.
“Chichun, good morning.”
Feng Chichun said, “Mm, good morning. Let’s go. If we leave now, we should be there before nine.”
“Mm. But how should I address your parents later? Should I call them ‘Uncle’ and ‘Auntie’ or ‘Bo Fu’ and ‘Bo Mu’?”
Feng Chichun gave a light laugh. “Don’t be so nervous. Just call them ‘Bo Fu’ and ‘Bo Mu’.”
“Mm.” Mu Xingyu took several deep breaths to adjust her mood.
But it wasn’t that easy to stop being nervous. This could be considered the evaluation of her work performance over the past month. If she failed too badly, she might be fired.
All along the way, Mu Xingyu rehearsed possible scenarios in her head, and her spirit remained in a state of constant tension.
When Feng Chichun parked, she almost wanted to stay in the car and not get out. but since she was already here, she couldn’t actually refuse to leave the car.
Mu Xingyu unbuckled her seatbelt slowly and opened the car door to get out. When she was in the car, she had been overthinking so much that she hadn’t noticed that Feng Chichun’s home was actually this big.
This was no longer just a villa with a garden; it was a small manor. Mu Xingyu could even see gardeners working in the flower beds. As expected of a wealthy family.
Feng Chichun noticed Mu Xingyu’s gaze and said, “If you want to tour the garden, I’ll take you around later. For now, it’s better to go meet my parents first. After all, they’ve been wanting to see you for a month.”
Once Feng Chichun said that, Mu Xingyu’s pressure grew even greater. She followed Feng Chichun into the main hall, where a well-maintained, beautiful woman came to meet them.
“Chichun, is this my future daughter-in-law? She’s even prettier in person than in the photos. You’re called Xingyu, right? Come over here and let me take a good look at you.” The woman smiled and beckoned to Mu Xingyu.
“Hello, Bo Mu.” Mu Xingyu felt that Feng Chichun’s mother was completely different from the original novel, and she seemed to be the type who acted familiar from the start. Calling her “future daughter-in-law” right away was quite embarrassing.
