What Bad Intentions Could the Heroine Have? [GL] - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
“Avoid suspicion? Indeed, we should. I suggest you take two more steps back and maintain a distance of at least three meters from me.” Feng Chichun truly didn’t give him any face at all.
Murong Huai, however, was thick-skinned. He didn’t seem angry in the slightest, instead saying with a smile, “I’ll do as you say. Would you like to have dinner together tonight? There’s a private kitchen nearby that tastes very good.”
Feng Chichun said directly, “Unwarranted kindness usually hides a sinister motive.”
Murong Huai replied, “Don’t put it so harshly. I just feel like the two of us haven’t eaten together in a long time. Besides, I should take this opportunity to catch up with you.”
Mu Xingyu’s “Green Tea Radar” stood at attention. This was one of the standard Green Tea routines: pretending to be very close when you aren’t actually close, using a strong sense of exclusivity to make the other person feel like an insignificant outsider.
Mu Xingyu felt that, as one of the female leads, she shouldn’t be so passive and wait for the plot to arrange everything. Therefore, she grabbed Feng Chichun’s arm and asked, “Chichun, are you and Mr. Murong on very good terms? I don’t think I’ve ever heard you mention him.”
Feng Chichun turned to look at Mu Xingyu, her expression softening slightly. “We just happened to know each other early on; our relationship is quite ordinary.”
Murong Huai sighed with a look of feigned heartbreak. “Chichun, it hurts my heart for you to say that. We could be considered childhood sweethearts, after all. We almost got engaged back then. If… that incident hadn’t happened, perhaps the ones together now would be us.”
Standard Green Tea routine number two: making impossible “what if” assumptions. The damage isn’t great, but it’s enough to disgust people.
Mu Xingyu saw a clear look of disdain appear on Feng Chichun’s face. She heard Feng Chichun say, “How are you still taking a joke between elders seriously?”
Murong Huai immediately retreated to advance: “I was only joking.”
Following that, he said to Mu Xingyu, “Miss Mu, you aren’t angry, are you?”
Standard Green Tea routine number three: deliberately saying things to make people angry, then turning around to ask if they are angry. If you say you aren’t, you just have to swallow your frustration; if you say you are, then you’re accused of being unable to take a joke and being narrow-minded.
Good heavens, it was a real loss that the green tea brands hadn’t invited Murong Huai to be their spokesperson.
Mu Xingyu had no intention of suffering in silence. She said, “Mr. Murong, I’m not angry. What is there to be angry about? It’s impossible anyway, isn’t it? By the way, Chichun, we walked so much today and my feet really hurt. Will you give me a massage tonight?”
Feng Chichun was very happy to cooperate with Mu Xingyu in a display of affection. “I’ll massage them slowly for you tonight. I see a pavilion on the other side of the bridge; do you want to go over there and rest?”
“Sure,” Mu Xingyu said with a smile.
If it were anyone else, they would likely have been driven away by the cloying sweetness between Feng Chichun and Mu Xingyu, but Murong Huai was no ordinary person.
“I happen to want to rest as well. Shall we go over together?” Murong Huai completely acted as if he weren’t an outsider.
The architecture on Nanshan was quite primitive and grand. This pavilion happened to be situated near the mountain peak. Sitting inside, one could see the mountain mists churning and rolling.
The scorching sun overhead was blocked by the pavilion, and the mountain breeze blew gently through the layers of treetops onto the skin, dispelling the heat from their bodies.
The fresh breeze, the birdsong, the high mountains, and the sea of clouds—at this moment, Mu Xingyu’s heart felt a tranquility like never before.
Provided Murong Huai wasn’t there.
Murong Huai stood by the guardrail, looking at the mountain scenery with his back to Feng Chichun. “Actually, my invitation to dinner wasn’t just to catch up. The Nanshan Resort project—what do you think of it?”
Feng Chichun’s tone was slightly cold as she said, “I’m on vacation today; I don’t talk about work.”
Murong Huai turned around, his expression full of regret. “I really didn’t expect there would come a day when you were willing to rest. For a girlfriend? This doesn’t seem like the you I know.”
Feng Chichun: “Don’t speak as if you know me very well.”
Before Mu Xingyu could even begin to complain in her heart, Feng Chichun had already shut Murong Huai down. It seemed Feng Chichun was also a first-class “Green Tea Detection Master” and didn’t need her to worry at all.
Murong Huai said with some disappointment, “It seems I’m not very welcome by you two. In that case, I’ll be going. As for the resort matter, I’ll contact you after your vacation ends.”
Feng Chichun didn’t even bother to stand up. She said, “Take care, I won’t see you out.”
Standard Green Tea routine number four: knowing you aren’t liked but insisting on making yourself sound pitiful, creating an illusion that you are the vulnerable party and everyone is bullying you.
Mu Xingyu couldn’t help but click her tongue; Murong Huai’s level was quite impressive.
After Murong Huai left, Mu Xingyu couldn’t resist asking, “Chichun, what was that engagement between you and Murong Huai about? I’m just a bit curious.”
She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but Mu Xingyu felt like Feng Chichun’s eyes were smiling.
Then, Feng Chichun answered, “A joke made between elders when we were young; it shouldn’t be taken as truth.”
“Oh, I see. But he seemed to act like he’s on quite good terms with you.”
Mentioning this, Feng Chichun let out a cold laugh. “Don’t let him deceive you. He is just like his name—not a good person. If you run into him next time, don’t pay him any mind; just act as if you don’t know him.”
Mu Xingyu knit her brows. “But wouldn’t that be inappropriate? It feels a bit impolite.”
Of course, Mu Xingyu was just being polite; she was more than happy for Feng Chichun to say that.
“With him, there is no need for politeness.”
Actually, Mu Xingyu was a bit curious about what exactly Murong Huai had done to make Feng Chichun have this kind of attitude. But she felt that her relationship with Feng Chichun wasn’t yet close enough to ask such things, so she didn’t pursue it.
Nanshan was quite large, and after the two wandered around, the afternoon was gone.
After dinner that evening, Feng Chichun dropped her off at the bottom of her apartment building. Just as Mu Xingyu was about to get out of the car, Feng Chichun suddenly asked, “Didn’t you say you wanted me to help massage your feet? Aren’t you going to invite me up?”
Mu Xingyu had thought Feng Chichun knew she was just talking nonsense; she hadn’t expected Feng Chichun to actually take it seriously. A back massage felt okay to Mu Xingyu, but a foot massage felt rather embarrassing.
“No need, actually my feet don’t hurt that much anymore.”
Hearing this, Feng Chichun nodded. She said, “Alright then. Remember to soak your feet when you get home to promote blood circulation.”
Mu Xingyu said, “Mm-hmm, then I’m going upstairs. See you tomorrow.”
Feng Chichun: “Go on, see you tomorrow.”
After Mu Xingyu said goodbye to Feng Chichun and went upstairs, Feng Chichun didn’t drive away immediately.
She took out her phone and sent a message to someone.
“I went hiking on Nanshan with Xingyu today and bought a concentric lock; she seemed very happy. However, when her feet hurt, she initially acted spoiled and asked me to massage them, but when I actually offered, she got shy.”
Feng Xiashen replied: That shows she has a good impression of you, but it hasn’t reached the point where she can confess. Cultivate your feelings a bit more. When she clearly shows her liking for you, then you can consider the matter of confessing.
Feng Chichun: Brother, I understand.
On the night of the Fengshang Banquet, Feng Chichun had spotted Mu Xingyu in the crowd at a single glance.
Mu Xingyu was like a confident little swan; she knew her own beauty but was not arrogant because of it.
Feng Chichun was a person who followed her feelings. Since she felt she had feelings for Mu Xingyu, she approached her without hesitation.
To avoid the possibility of lowering Mu Xingyu’s favorability by failing to consider her feelings, Feng Chichun had sought advice from her brother, who had some research in psychology.
So far, progress seemed very smooth.
