- Chapter 110 Extra - Extra Little Snake Your Dao Partner’s Home Xishan Spirit Pool
Qingwu rested against a nearby tree trunk, holding some grass in her mouth, eyes fixed on the slowly gathering spiritual mist.
Ever since Yue Tingxi and Qin Suliu both dispersed their spirits, whenever the mountain’s spiritual energy gathered, she would arrive early, always ready to bring Yue Tingxi home.
The mountain beasts did not understand her reasons, yet unconsciously got used to her habit. Whenever the spiritual energy gathered, they would enthusiastically inform her.
But Qingwu waited and waited—time and again, year after year—without ever seeing a single Black-Tip Snake egg.
Still, she had patience and time in abundance.
“Baiyu sent word. She divined the situation and says we should be able to wait for Yue Tingxi.”
Xie Zhi came over and handed her a fruit basket damp with water. “Want some? Just picked these peaches from Baichuan Alliance.”
Chuiyin had long since stopped counting how many times she asked whether the two girls had returned when Qingwu came to pick fruits.
The fruit trees in their courtyard had blossomed and fruited countless times. At first, she kept some aside, thinking that if the two girls returned suddenly, they could taste the freshest fruit. Later, she stopped keeping any, calling everyone in the know to pick them so she wouldn’t be alone in her grief.
“I won’t eat it, leave it.” Qingwu shook her head, letting go of the grass in her mouth and sitting cross-legged by the Spirit Pool.
Knowing her anxiety, Xie Zhi smiled and sat beside her, putting the fruit basket aside, accompanying her in silent waiting.
After another two hours, the spiritual mist had fully condensed into the size of a snake egg, gently quivering.
Soon, the soft glow surrounding the eggshell faded, revealing the Black-Tip Snake egg’s markings.
Qingwu’s eyes brightened. She released a burst of water spiritual energy toward it. The egg obediently floated toward her, absorbing all the water energy she released.
She tried to touch it with her water-imbued hands.
Whether accepting her or simply attracted by the dense water energy, the egg obediently adhered to her palm. She lifted it from the pool.
Suppressing a smile, Qingwu held the egg, took the fruit basket with her, and instantly teleported back to her small cabin.
Xie Zhi, unsurprised but helpless, followed. By the time she arrived, Qingwu had already placed the egg safely.
“Perhaps some warmth will help her recall Suoliu,” Qingwu murmured. “Before, they were nearly a hundred years apart in age. I wonder how long it will take Suoliu to return this time.”
“Let it be fate. A hundred years is a hundred years,” Xie Zhi replied calmly. “Just consider it all returning to normal.”
Qingwu began feeding the egg five times a day, while Xie Zhi nourished Yue Tingxi with her own rule energy.
According to her memory, Yue Tingxi’s talent was not extraordinary, but above average. The so-called “low aptitude” was simply due to never having been exposed to techniques at the level of rules—so she would start her training from a young age.
Half a year later, early spring arrived, and the egg finally hatched.
A tiny snake, no larger than a pinky nail, poked out its head. Its body was black with dark gold patterns, not yet fully developed into the nearly entirely black form it would grow into.
Qingwu gently tapped its head with her finger, sending her spiritual consciousness into its mind.
As she expected, a bubble representing past memories was blocked by a mist; once the little one reached a certain cultivation level, it would be able to access them on its own.
When the little snake grew enough to have a body two fingers thick and could eat live prey, Qingwu took it to Baichuan Alliance.
The little snake was eagerly fed a peach by Chuiyin. Eyes wide, it was about to swallow it when Qingwu quickly removed the pit, crushed it, and fed the flesh instead.
“Do snakes really need to be this pampered?” Chuiyin chuckled.
“Mountain snakes aren’t like your northern pythons,” Qingwu replied calmly. “By the way, how’s Qingning City been?”
Since taking Yue Tingxi back, she had devoted herself to the egg, and after hatching, she continued raising the little snake, reducing her “causal probe” observations to nearby towns, no longer focusing on the distant northern territories.
“It’s doing fine. The city lord I chose is more responsible than I am!” Chuiyin snorted lightly, tossing a few more peach pieces into her mouth. “What about you? You’re not here just to see me, right?”
“Of course not. I plan to thank Zhaixing Pavilion and then visit Kongming Mountain Villa,” Qingwu answered, subtly storing the peach pieces in her storage ring for feeding the little snake on the way.
However, before leaving Baichuan Alliance, she first made a detour to the “Ghost Market” in the Chenzi Layer of Qingxiao City.
It was said to be a slum for humans, full of all sorts of people, including the helpless and unfortunate.
She expanded her divine sense, with Xie Zhi assisting via rule energy, and quickly located a pregnant woman.
—Luo Yansha was roughly the same age as Yue Tingxi.
Qingwu occasionally checked the Chenzi Layer for luck. If she could save Luo Yansha, she could bring the mother and daughter to Xishan or Kongming Mountain Villa, and when the child grew up, perhaps send her to a sect to become a cultivator—something Yue Tingxi had wished for.
The woman was poor, surviving on tailoring and selling stir-fried noodles from a cart, yet she didn’t look lonely. When Qingwu approached, her eyes showed caution.
“I am a senior from the immortal mountain. I divined that your child will have great fortune and is suitable to inherit my teachings, so I personally came to see you. Ideally, I can bring you both to the immortal mountain for protection, making childbirth easier.” Qingwu said, improvising.
At that moment, the little snake poked its head out of her sleeve, curiously hissing at the woman.
The woman’s face changed, instinctively stepping back as if startled.
“This is a recently hatched mountain spirit beast, also my daughter,” Qingwu said, patting the snake’s head. Seeing the woman still tense, she didn’t force it. “If you distrust me, I’ll at least leave medicinal herbs, spirit stones, and silver for your safe delivery. When the child is old enough to understand, please bring her to Xishan to meet me.”
After leaving the supplies, Qingwu waited a while outside before departing, setting up three layers of soundproofing, protective, and surveillance spells on the house. Whether Luo Yansha accepted it or not was another matter.
Youhuang Mountain, Kongming Mountain Villa.
Qingwu and Xie Zhi were already frequent visitors. When the mountain guards saw them, they excitedly informed the villa owner.
“So this is Master Tingxi?”
Qin Chuhan couldn’t help but get close to the little snake. Qingwu, protective of her child, had to negotiate before being allowed to take the little snake.
“We’re here to announce Yue Tingxi’s return and to retrieve her memories,” Qingwu told Lan Kongming, who had already heard about it. “Before leaving, they had sealed some memories in the villa’s restricted area. Now I want to recover my portion.”
Lan Kongming wasn’t surprised and guided Qingwu into the restricted area. About half a quarter-hour later, she emerged.
“All retrieved?” Lan Kongming asked.
Qingwu nodded. “Thanks for the trouble. I want to review them before leaving.”
Once she reclaimed the little snake from Qin Chuhan, Qingwu and Xie Zhi stayed at the villa.
“You don’t look nervous at all?” Qingwu asked before reviewing the memories.
“No need to be nervous. The past is past. I’ve reformed,” Xie Zhi said. “If you really can’t accept the old me, our relationship just returns to the starting point.”
Qingwu didn’t know if recovering the memories was a good thing, but she wanted to see what had happened in their previous life and how she and Xie Zhi had fared. Hearing Xie Zhi’s words, she calmed herself and sank her spiritual consciousness into the memory bubbles.
During this time, Xie Zhi took Yue Tingxi to explore every corner of Kongming Mountain Villa.
“This is your dao partner’s home. Remember to visit often.” She said it as if the little snake could understand.
After all, bonds and red threads aren’t made by mere words. Cause and effect would determine themselves. She had no hesitation telling the young spirit of Yue Tingxi about these things.
The little snake was curious about everything and liked being near Qin Chuhan.
Thinking the snake might still retain memories of Qin Suliu, Qin Chuhan would create flower petals infused with a little fire spiritual energy to play with the little snake. As expected, it joyfully circled the petals.
While the “mother-daughter” played, Xie Zhi lay at a low table, snacking on seeds and drinking fruit wine, quietly counting the days, peacefully awaiting her “judgment day.”
Half a month later, as expected, Qingwu called her to the Kongzi Ice Wheel Arena at Kongming Mountain Villa.
“Are we fighting, or…?” Xie Zhi had already prepared herself.
“Hard to say,” Qingwu frowned. “Your memories were erased, so it makes sense you’re calm knowing I want to recover them.”
She had always observed Xie Zhi’s soul, otherwise she wouldn’t have allowed her to stay at Xishan or agreed to be her dao partner.
“If you feel uncomfortable staying with me, it’s fine if you leave,” Xie Zhi said calmly. “Now we have Baichuan Alliance; if anything happens, you can gather there immediately…”
“I did hate you once, but it was because you colluded with the World Consciousness, deceiving Bashu and Tingxi, keeping me in the dark!” Qingwu interrupted. “Even so, despite my hatred, I left you a chance.”
The companionship, chatting, and heart-to-heart talks were never fake. At least, they once had nearly “close friend” relations.
“If you still want a chance, don’t leave lightly!” Qingwu said firmly. “Even if I don’t forgive you, I would never leave you alone in this world!”
“After all, we each hold a directive and a silver sword. If you leave my sight with this power, what if you do something reckless? That would betray Tingxi’s trust!”
Since the farewell back then, Qingwu had sensed something new in her soul.
When Qin Chuhan and Lan Kongming left, Qingwu asked Xie Zhi, realizing it was her daughter’s entrustment.
Xie Zhi paused, then couldn’t help but laugh. “Fine, whatever you say~” She didn’t bother to expose Qingwu’s stubbornness and reached out, receiving only symbolic resistance.
