Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 92
Ming Ying could tell Fu Anyu was drunk, but she couldn’t understand why.
Fu Anyu had clearly said her alcohol tolerance wasn’t bad, and water spiritual power could naturally counteract the effects of alcohol. No matter what, Fu Anyu shouldn’t have gotten drunk.
She had also tried that beer, it really wasn’t strong, much milder than the wine her father brewed. Even two bottles shouldn’t have been enough to get her drunk.
But regardless, they were at a bus stop, with so many people watching. She couldn’t let Fu Anyu do anything irrational. If a passing journalist happened to capture it, Fu Anyu might end up in the social news section as a scandal.
After Ming Ying covered her mouth, Fu Anyu didn’t lean in closer. Instead, her hand, which had been propped against the advertisement board, shifted to gently stroke Ming Ying’s hair. It looked no different from an affectionate gesture between lovers, at least in Ming Ying’s eyes, it was ordinary and perfectly safe.
“No need,” Fu Anyu said. “I can walk.”
Ming Ying was half-doubtful, still shaken by Fu Anyu’s earlier reaction. But she chose to trust her and nodded, turning to lead the way while holding her hand.
Clouds began to gather in the afternoon sky, casting a gloomy haze over the city. It looked like rain was imminent, and the wind had turned noticeably cooler.
Ming Ying still carried a long-handled parasol on her arm. She glanced up at the sky, then down at the umbrella, thinking that if it poured, holding the umbrella might become troublesome. She quickened her pace, hoping to reach the underground parking lot of the large shopping mall as soon as possible.
This time, it was Fu Anyu who obediently followed her. Wherever Ming Ying went, and at whatever speed, Fu Anyu matched her step for step. Aside from the earlier “wall-pinning” at the bus stop, she hadn’t done anything out of line.
Unfortunately, they were only halfway there when the rain began to fall.
Summer rain came without warning, often in heavy downpours that came and went in waves. Even though Fu Anyu snatched the umbrella and opened it immediately, they still got a little wet.
“Let’s take shelter over there.” Fu Anyu pointed with the umbrella toward a shop with an awning on the left.
Ming Ying instinctively followed her as they hurried over.
It was clearly a slanting rain, the kind that easily drenched people, but by the time they reached the shelter of the awning, Ming Ying didn’t feel wet at all, only her shoes had gotten soaked, which was uncomfortable.
Ming Ying didn’t need to guess, Fu Anyu must have used a simple spell to manipulate water spiritual power, shielding them from the rain.
The shop under the awning happened to be a cat café. As Ming Ying approached, she saw numerous cats playing inside, some even walking up to customers’ feet and rolling over to expose their bellies, begging to be petted.
Ming Ying thought back to the shop’s name and realized she hadn’t come across any books or shows related to cat cafés. She asked Fu Anyu, “What is a cat café?”
“It’s a coffee shop where customers can interact with lots of cats,” Fu Anyu explained, then asked, “Do you want to go in?”
Ming Ying hesitated. “Could there be any demons among these cats?”
“Yes,” Fu Anyu nodded. “Some high-appeal cat demons choose to work in cat cafés.”
Ming Ying instantly thought of a less-than-respectable establishment of ill repute. She coughed lightly and shook her head. “Then I’d rather not go.”
They were only there to take shelter from the rain, and besides, Fu Anyu was still drunk. If a cat demon took the opportunity to take advantage, that would be bad.
Fu Anyu hummed in acknowledgment and lowered her gaze to stare at her.
Ming Ying felt a shiver run down her spine under her gaze, almost as if she were about to be kissed at any moment. Gathering her courage, she whispered, “Didn’t you say you wouldn’t get drunk? Why do you look so, so intoxicated now?”
“Do you think I’m drunk?” Fu Anyu retorted.
“Yes,” Ming Ying nodded. “You might not realize it yourself, but the way you’re looking at me now feels like… like you’re staring at prey.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she felt Fu Anyu lean in closer, causing her to shut her eyes in alarm.
But Fu Anyu seemed to pause briefly, her breath not fully descending, and then Ming Ying heard her let out a soft chuckle.
“Hotpot-scented prey?” Fu Anyu teased with a laugh.
Ming Ying: “…”
She thought Fu Anyu wasn’t just drunk, she seemed to have lost her wits, too.
The next moment, she felt a weight on her head as Fu Anyu rested her chin there, gently nuzzling her hair.
“I think…” Ming Ying’s fox ears, hidden in her hair, tingled from the contact, making her squirm uncomfortably. “We should take a bath when we get back, wash off the hotpot smell, and then do other things.”
“Alright,” Fu Anyu replied softly. “Then we’ll brush our teeth and clear the stuffed animals off the bed.”
Ming Ying had a vague sense that her words were taking a strange turn, but before she could respond, Fu Anyu’s arm wrapped around her from behind.
“What… what are you planning to do in this drunken state?” she asked warily. “You just said that even if you were drunk, you wouldn’t do anything to me!”
Yet, despite her caution, she couldn’t suppress the flicker of anticipation rising within her.
It was a conflicting emotion.
She was both afraid of what might happen with Fu Anyu and yet secretly hoped Fu Anyu would claim her sooner rather than later.
Fu Anyu didn’t answer, simply holding her without any further actions, even humming a song softly.
“I miss the summers with you, melting my dormant winter nights.”
Perhaps due to her tipsiness, her voice was unusually tender, and the melody of the song was soothing. Ming Ying found her heart gradually calming as she listened.
She began to reflect on why she was so timid. Fu Anyu was, after all, a gentle human girl, not much older than her, just with more life experience. What was she so afraid of?
Just then, her phone emitted a soft “ying”, the fox-sound notification she’d set for WeChat messages. She quickly pulled out her phone to check.
[Xiao Du: ??? Come back quickly! President Fu has a terrible alcohol tolerance! With you around, she won’t use her water spiritual power to sober up!]
[Xiao Du: I was doing laundry and didn’t see your message earlier. Are you okay? Did anything happen? Is Yanxue with you? If you’re fine, reply ASAP!]
As Ming Ying listened to Fu Anyu’s calm humming, she opened the message box to type “I’m fine,” but suddenly felt the weight on her head lift. The singing voice shifted from above to beside her ear, warm breath tickling her. She instinctively hunched her shoulders, only to feel her earlobe suddenly enveloped in a warm, damp sensation.
She gasped sharply, nearly dropping her phone.
But Fu Anyu didn’t stop despite her fluster. The next moment, Ming Ying felt something soft brush against her ear before pulling away, the faint sound of moisture making her scalp tingle.
Her phone let out two consecutive “ying” sounds, as if echoing her silent scream.
She knew it must be because she hadn’t replied instantly, Xiao Du had sent another message. In her panic, her fingers flew across the keyboard, typing who-knows-what before she hit send, hoping Xiao Du would see it and contact Xiao Chen to come quickly and help her out of this predicament.
Her phone chimed again soon after, then fell silent.
Fortunately, it was raining, and the only people nearby were those hurrying through the downpour, paying them no mind. The customers in the cat café knew they were just sheltering from the rain, so they didn’t stare either.
But Ming Ying was reaching her limit. She had researched it, demons, especially fox spirits skilled in enchantment, were inherently prone to having their desires stirred.
She feared that if Fu Anyu kept teasing her a little longer, by the time Xiao Chen arrived with the car, she might witness Ming Ying pinning Fu Anyu against the café’s glass wall, fox ears and tail exposed, kissing her fiercely.
Perhaps Xiao Du’s distress call had been timely. Within two minutes, Ming Ying spotted a familiar car emerging from the rain. Soon after, she saw Chen Yanxue step out of the driver’s seat, a protective aura of sword energy shielding her from the raindrops.
To Ming Ying, Chen Yanxue’s rain-soaked dash made her look no less than a war goddess.
After shoving both the human and the fox into the back seat, Chen Yanxue swiftly closed the door, released the handbrake, and drove straight to Fu Anyu’s home without hesitation.
Ming Ying was still being held by Fu Anyu, but she finally had the presence of mind to check her WeChat messages.
[Xiao Du: Okay, I got it.]
[Xiao Du: Stay where you are. Yanxue is on her way.]
[Ying Luo: Ah had too much to drink, I’m out.]
[Xiao Du: Is this you face-rolling the keyboard now? [contemplating.jpg]]
Ming Ying typed back: “I think it’s about time. You have no idea how terrifying a drunk Fu Anyu can be.” She added a crying emoji for good measure.
Just as she sent the message, she felt a gaze on her. Turning, she found Fu Ayu staring at her phone.
Fu Anyu read exceptionally fast. Ming Ying knew it was too late to recall the message, so she decided to throw caution to the wind. She turned off her phone, stuffed it into her pocket, and suddenly released four fox tails, wrapping Fu Ayu up tightly.
Because of the rain, Chen Yanxue had rolled up all the windows, so no one outside could see inside. Ming Ying took full advantage of the privacy to get her revenge.
Meeting Fu Anyu’s slightly dazed gaze, Ming Ying felt an inexplicable sense of accomplishment.
Then she pressed the not-quite-sober Fu Anyu into the seat, using two tails each to firmly bind her arms.
“Don’t play with fire,” she said, pinching Fu Anyu’s cheeks and reciting the classic domineering CEO line with a smile.
Fu Anyu struggled briefly but couldn’t break free.
She glanced at the fox tails, then back at Ming Ying, asking with interest, “What do you want to do to me?”
“What I do to you depends on your reaction,” Ming Ying continued the script.
“Satisfied with what you see?” Fu Anyu followed along.
Chen Yanxue, who was driving, thought: “Both of them are such children.”
By the time they arrived home, the rain had nearly stopped.
When Du Yunxin hurried out to greet them and opened the car door, she saw the little fox pinning her boss to the seat.
Du Yunxin: “…”
“They’ve been rehearsing domineering CEO lines the whole way,” Chen Yanxue said as she got out of the car, looking utterly resigned.
Du Yunxin took out her phone, opened the chat page with Ming Ying, and recited expressionlessly inside the car, “You have no idea how terrifying a drunk Fu Anyu can be.”
Ming Ying awkwardly released Fu Anyu, got out of the car first, her four tails hanging obediently behind her as if nothing had happened.
Fu Anyu also slowly sat up and leisurely stepped out of the car.
Ming Ying naturally reached out to support her, but after just a few steps, she suddenly felt her tail being ruffled, causing her to freeze in place.
