Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 90
Faced with Ming Ying’s small complaint, Fu Anyu simply smiled.
Then she asked the little fox whether she wanted to stroll along the streets or go to a large shopping mall.
Ming Ying thought for a moment but didn’t see much difference between the two options. However, in the novels she had read, CEOs always took their lovers to big malls and swiped VIP cards, so she chose the shopping mall as well.
“Can I buy whatever I see?” she asked Fu Anyu.
“Yes,” Fu Anyu replied.
“I remember when I first arrived, I told you I wanted to buy some decorations,” Ming Ying reminisced as they walked. “But you said those things were expensive and wouldn’t let me buy them.”
“Our relationship wasn’t as close back then,” Fu Anyu explained. “I only pay for those I’m close to.”
Ming Ying deliberately let out a light hum, but her heart was filled with joy.
As the princess of the Nine-Tailed Great Demon clan, she had a very discerning eye when it came to selecting items. After picking out her choices and heading to the checkout, she realized everything she had chosen was quite pricey.
Yet, when Fu Anyu swiped her card, she didn’t even furrow her brow, remaining as calm as if she had just bought Ming Ying a bag of bread.
Ming Ying took the freshly packaged gift box and looked at Fu Anyu with some concern.
Even though she knew CEOs were usually wealthy, she was still worried that a single shopping trip might drain Fu Anyu’s finances or leave her with the impression of a “reckless, spendthrift little princess.”
Maybe it would be better to leave the shopping mall and just walk along the streets?
The mall was filled with luxury brands and high-end goods, but the commercial streets for ordinary people were surely different. She remembered seeing a plainly dressed elderly woman and a child who only reached her knees lingering in front of a shop earlier.
“Fu Anyu, is it almost our turn?” she asked. “Shall we wait on the street? We can slowly make our way to the hot pot restaurant.”
Fu Anyu had no experience with dating; her only guideline was to follow her lover’s wishes.
She nodded, took Ming Ying’s hand, and led her to the elevator, pressing the button.
“Let’s put these things in Xiao Chen’s car first, then we can go for a walk,” she said.
Ming Ying agreed and waited with her for the elevator.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, two young women walked out, chatting and laughing while holding hands. The moment one of them made eye contact with Fu Anyu, she exclaimed, “President Fu!”
The other woman was startled and instinctively hid behind her.
Ming Ying immediately recognized the one who had called out to Fu Anyu, she was a staff member from the Management Bureau, the same young person who had taken photos of her and Fu Anyu.
However, the one following behind this woman wasn’t human but a demon.
A dog demon of a breed Ming Ying couldn’t identify.
Fu Anyu probably noticed it too but simply nodded to the woman, said “Hello,” and led Ming Ying into the elevator.
From behind them came the young woman’s voice: “President Fu, is this the little fox from last time?”
The question startled Ming Ying so much she nearly revealed her demon form and, like the dog demon, instinctively hid behind her lover.
“It’s her,” Fu Anyu didn’t hide the truth. “We’re considering marriage, so she didn’t register immediately after taking human form.”
“No problem, no problem! I understand!” The young woman hurriedly waved her hands, rummaged through her bag, and smilingly handed over her business card. “President Fu, if you decide on a wedding date, you can contact me directly. It’ll be more efficient that way.”
Fu Anyu nodded and took the business card. Only after the elevator doors closed did she press the button for the basement level.
Ming Ying leaned in to look at the card and saw that the young woman was named “Ni Leya”, truly a name that suited her. In her memory, this girl was indeed cheerful and proactive while working.
“What breed was that little dog earlier?” she asked Fu Anyu.
“A Golden Retriever,” Fu Anyu replied. “Naturally gentle and very friendly toward people.”
“Her true form is quite beautiful,” Ming Ying recalled. “But even for such a common canine demon, they can’t reveal their true form in public places?”
“No,” Fu Anyu shook her head. “It’s a rule in the ‘Code.'”
“The ‘Code’ imposes far too many restrictions on demons,” Ming Ying complained softly. When the electronic voice announced the elevator’s arrival, she followed Fu Anyu out and, as they walked through the quiet underground parking lot, gently scratched Fu Anyu’s palm. “When do you want to get married?”
“That depends on you,” Fu Anyu said, gently holding the finger that had scratched her. “I don’t have any particular preferences.”
Ming Ying thought for a moment. “Are there any memorable holidays among humans?”
“Yes, the Qixi Festival is next Saturday,” Fu Anyu answered.
“Is Qixi considered a kind of Valentine’s Day?” Ming Ying asked. She seemed to recall seeing scenes in novels and TV dramas where the main characters celebrated the Qixi Festival.
“It’s considered the local Valentine’s Day,” Fu Anyu nodded. “Why? Do you want to get married on Qixi?”
“I have that idea,” Ming Ying calculated the days. “By then, Third Sister should have recovered enough, right? She could even come to our wedding banquet.”
“Aren’t you going to discuss it with your Third Sister?” Fu Anyu asked.
“I still need to,” Ming Ying slipped her fingers between Fu Anyu’s, clasping the back of her hand. “But I want to discuss it with you first.”
Having a wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day sounded incredibly romantic.
The next moment, Ming Ying felt her fingers being gently spread apart as Fu Anyu’s fingers interlaced with hers.
Their hands were tightly clasped, and neither spoke another word.
After loading all the newly purchased items into the car, the two returned to ground level.
Although there were large trees along the city roads, the overall shade wasn’t as effective as in the mountains. So, when Fu Anyu got out, she casually took a parasol, opened it, and held it in her hand.
“Let me hold the umbrella,” Ming Ying quickly offered, raising her hand. “I want to do something for you too.”
Without hesitation, Fu Anyu handed her the umbrella, not bothering to mention that when two people walk together, the shorter one might find it more strenuous to hold the umbrella.
As long as it was within acceptable limits, Fu Anyu would let the little fox try whatever she wanted.
The little princess who had traveled from the ancient demon realm was still unfamiliar with everything in the human world. Only by providing her with diverse experiences could the somewhat bewildered little fox grow up a bit faster.
Ming Ying held the umbrella for a while and felt her hand growing sore. She couldn’t help but think how nice it would be if she could manifest a tail to hold the umbrella for her.
But she couldn’t reveal her tail, so she had to do as the ordinary people around her, firmly grip the umbrella handle with her hand and raise it to a height where the umbrella could cover both her and Fu Anyu without the ribs touching Fu Anyu’s hair.
She suddenly realized that human love could be so arduous. Yet there were so many people in this world, without spiritual power or long lifespans, who still chose to run toward love with mutual devotion.
If she were still in the fox clan, she would simply follow the elders’ arrangements, marrying a demon she might never have met when she came of age.
Arranged marriage followed by love was indeed one way to form a relationship, but it would inevitably lack many essential elements of romance.
She couldn’t quite articulate what exactly was missing, but as she walked with Fu Anyu through the human-filled streets, she vaguely felt that many things she had experienced or heard of in the demon realm were absurd, perhaps even things that shouldn’t exist at all.
Ming Ying was startled by her own thoughts and quickly pushed them aside, refusing to dwell on them further.
How could she deny a way of life that had been followed for generations?
Holding an umbrella, she followed Fu Anyu for a while, watching as she bought various trinkets along the way, charms and handicrafts, all stored in a small antique-style pouch. Each item was something Ming Ying herself would have loved.
They gradually made their way to the food street. Fu Anyu took the umbrella and gently massaged Ming Ying’s wrist. Whenever Ming Ying glanced at a stall for more than a moment, Fu Anyu would ask if she wanted to buy something.
Ming Ying felt too embarrassed to tell her that this behavior reminded her of the maids who used to accompany her on outings, always asking, “Does Your Highness want this?” or “How many would you like? I’ll ask the price.”
But she knew saying so would be disrespectful to Fu Anyu, so each time she was asked, she simply answered obediently.
And so, Fu Anyu ended up feeding her all along the way.
There was everything: takoyaki, grilled sausages, sushi, oden, fried rice cakes…
Ming Ying felt her stomach starting to fill up, but they hadn’t even had hotpot yet. She quickly averted her gaze and focused only on Fu Anyu.
She thought, Fu Anyu wouldn’t actually try to feed herself to me, right?
Unexpectedly, Fu Anyu looked at her and smiled, leaning close to whisper softly in her ear, “Want to eat me?”
Ming Ying: “…”
“Could you please forget about that joke?” she asked pitifully, even using a polite form of address.
“No,” the person beside her refused swiftly and decisively.
Just as Ming Ying began considering whether to keep her eyes fixed on the road, a faint vibration came from Fu Anyu’s pocket.
Fu Anyu took out her phone, glanced at it, and said, “Our table is ready. Let’s go.”
Ming Ying breathed a sigh of relief. As soon as Fu Anyu put her phone away, she took her hand and asked, “Which way?”
Fu Anyu had already checked the map and led her through streets and alleys. Soon, they arrived at the hotpot restaurant.
A long line still waited outside, but Fu Anyu scanned the reservation QR code and took Ming Ying inside, where they were seated in a private booth for two.
“What would you two like to order?” the waitress asked cheerfully, placing the menu on the table.
The menu was right beside Ming Ying, but she didn’t pick it up. Instead, she looked at the waitress in surprise.
“Excuse me, are you from the Red Fox clan?” she asked.
The waitress’s smile stiffened briefly before returning to her professional demeanor. “I’m not sure what you’re talking about.”
Ming Ying was puzzled by her denial and was about to press further when Fu Anyu spoke up: “Is your signature dish the fish hotpot? Is it spicy?”
The server’s expression softened, and she smiled as she began introducing the dishes to Fu Anyu.
Fu Anyu ordered a sour fish fillet hotpot and had Ming Ying pick some meat dishes and drinks. After the server took the menu and left, she reminded Ming Ying, “Even if you notice someone is a yao, there’s no need to say it out loud. As long as a yao can maintain a stable, fully human form, they are allowed to work.”
Ming Ying suddenly understood and nodded with a hint of guilt.
Noticing her low spirits, Fu Anyu rummaged through her storage pouch filled with trinkets and pulled out an ahoge.
When Ming Ying looked up, she saw that Fu Anyu had already tucked the ahoge into her hair and was gently pressing it down with her finger.
“Apparently, the ahoge is a special mechanism,” Fu Anyu said seriously. “When it’s present, a person’s mood improves.”
With that, she flicked the ahoge.
