Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 77
“Of course it’s not suitable for President Fu,” Chen Yanxue said, “but she has no other choice.”
Ming Ying was taken aback for a moment before lowering her gaze.
This answer made her feel somewhat uncomfortable, and she couldn’t help but wonder how Fu Anyu had managed all these years without anyone to rely on.
Chen Yanxue had never been much of a talker, and since Ming Ying didn’t respond, they remained silent for the rest of the ride.
The car soon arrived at the Shengwei Group building. The entire structure was quiet, with only the floor where Fu Anyu’s office was located still illuminated.
Carrying two lunch boxes, Ming Ying followed Chen Yanxue into the executive elevator.
“If you have any thoughts, you can speak directly with President Fu. There’s no need to seek our opinions,” Chen Yanxue suddenly said in the elevator. “After all, we aren’t her.”
Ming Ying nodded.
They went straight to Fu Anyu’s office, knocked, and entered after receiving permission.
Fu Anyu was typing at her computer, the black swivel chair as steady as its occupant, unmoving.
“President Fu, I’ll take my leave now.” After delivering the fox, Chen Yanxue dropped this remark and left without waiting for a response.
Noticing the ordinary swivel chair was still in the office, Ming Ying took her lunch box and sat down, sliding over to face Fu Anyu. Seeing space on the desk, she set the lunch box down, opened it, and began taking out the dishes served in small bowls.
“Xiao Du made your favorite spicy chicken tonight,” Ming Ying said as she unpacked the food. “There’s also mushroom soup, dry-pot cauliflower, and tomato zucchini.”
Fu Anyu gave a noncommittal “Mm,” her eyes still fixed on the computer screen. “You eat first. I’ll be done soon.”
Ming Ying unceremoniously picked up her chopsticks and started eating her portion. After a bite, she cradled her lunch box and slid her chair next to Fu Anyu, scooping a piece of spicy chicken with her unused spoon and holding it to Fu Anyu’s lips.
Smelling the aroma of food from below, Fu Anyu felt slightly awkward. Though she muttered, “You’re distracting me from work,” she still ate the piece of chicken.
Ming Ying pretended not to hear, shamelessly continuing to eat a few bites herself before feeding Fu Anyu a spoonful of mushrooms. This time, Fu Anyu didn’t say a word and simply ate it.
After observing Fu Anyu’s reaction for a while, Ming Ying mentally checked off the “feeding” interaction as a success.
It was highly feasible, Fu Anyu was so well-behaved when being fed.
However, the feeding didn’t last long before Fu Anyu paused her work and picked up her lunch box to eat on her own.
With nothing else to do during the meal, the two of them started chatting.
“I want to be your bodyguard so I can stay by your side during the day too,” Ming Ying proposed.
“I don’t need a bodyguard,” Fu Anyu refused outright. “If you want to stay with me during the day, just come to the company with me in the morning.”
“But I feel uncomfortable not being able to help you,” Ming Ying said.
“Why do you think that way?” Fu Anyu asked.
Ming Ying fell silent for a moment. “There’s so much I need to learn. I can’t take care of your home, cook, or do laundry like Xiao Du, and I can’t be your driver like Xiao Chen…”
She paused before adding, “Last night, I dreamed of my parents. They told me to stay in the human world with my third sister. But if I’m really going to stay here, I need to find some kind of work. My third sister is a physician, hospitals here need her too. But what about me? I don’t know how to do anything.”
“The job market in the human realm is like this,” Fu Anyu explained. “They’ve spent nearly twenty years in school and accumulated plenty of experience in society before they’re even qualified to compete for their current positions.”
“Then I should go to school first too.” Ming Ying’s eyes lit up. “Since there are demons living in the human realm, there must be schools for demons to attend, right?”
She had expected Fu Anyu to refuse outright again, but instead, Fu Anyu nodded. “That’s a good idea. So, what do you think you’d like to study?”
“I…” Ming Ying was stumped. Recalling her experiences back home, she suddenly realized she had no idea what she wanted to learn.
“Let me rephrase the question,” Fu Anyu said. “What do you enjoy doing the most?”
“I like…” Ming Ying thought for a moment, and this time she had an answer. “I like drawing and singing. I also enjoy playing the qin, but I’m not very good at it.”
Fu Anyu set down her bowl, went to the cabinet, and brought back some drawing paper and a 6B pencil, placing them on the pile of documents beside Ming Ying. “After you finish eating, use these to draw something you’re good at.”
The 6B pencil was very soft. After finishing her meal, Ming Ying tried sketching a few lines and found it quite comfortable to use. She drew a jasmine flower on the paper, then sketched the swing in Fu Anyu’s backyard on the other half of the page.
Fu Anyu sat beside her, watching as Ming Ying, though somewhat unskilled, drew the outlines of the flower and the swing almost identical to the real things. After a moment of thought, Fu Anyu picked up her phone, searched for an anime character wallpaper, and showed it to Ming Ying. “Can you copy this?”
Ming Ying studied it for a moment and nodded. “Yes, but it’ll take me a while.”
“No rush, take your time.” Fu Anyu nodded, then cleaned up the meal containers while Ming Ying worked on the drawing. She tossed the leftovers into a trash bag and took it outside to throw away.
When she returned, she instinctively glanced at the drawing and saw that Ming Ying had already sketched the basic outline and was now refining the details.
Fu Anyu opened the cabinet again and took out all the drawing pencils she had used in the past. She sharpened the dull ones with a small knife, placed them in a pencil holder, and set them beside Ming Ying. “These are all drawing pencils. Feel free to use them.”
“Do you have any bamboo brushes with bristles?” Ming Ying asked. “I’m not used to such hard pens.”
Fu Anyu thought for a moment. “We have them at home, but there are only pencils here.”
“Then I’ll draw something else for you when we get home.” Ming Ying nodded and continued with her copying.
Lately, she had been watching a lot of animations and had unintentionally observed many of the popular art styles and characters in the human realm. By the time Fu Anyu finished her work and called her to go home, Ming Ying had almost finished shading the drawing.
“If you’re interested in making drawing your career, I can find you a one-on-one tutor,” Fu Anyu said.
Ming Ying excitedly replied, “Okay!” then asked, “If I learn to draw well, can I stay by your side?”
“If you also study design, you could handle the promotional posters in the future,” Fu Anyu said, putting away the pencils and the drawing. “Let’s call it a day. It’s time to go home.”
Feeling that she could finally be of some use, Ming Ying was in a much better mood on the way back.
When they arrived home, Ming Ying went inside first, while Fu Anyu stayed in the car under the pretext of discussing something with Chen Yanxue.
“Before coming to the company, did Ming Ying say anything in the car?” Fu Anyu asked.
“Little Fox asked me,” Chen Yanxue replied. “She wanted to know if she could be your bodyguard. I said it wasn’t suitable, the environment you’re in is too dirty.”
Fu Anyu knew she always spoke bluntly and truthfully, so she nodded. “What did she say?”
“She asked me in return, ‘Is that environment suitable for Sister, then?'” Chen Yanxue looked at her. “I said, it’s not suitable for you, but you have no other choice.”
Fu Anyu smiled and glanced out the window toward the small figure changing shoes at the villa’s entrance.
“She’s a lot like how you used to be,” Chen Yanxue said. “I couldn’t pull you out of that dye vat, but at least I can try to pull her out.”
“No need to think that way. I’ll take care of her,” Fu Anyu shook her head, opened the car door, and walked toward the house.
Tonight, Ming Ying also planned to sleep early. Tomorrow was Friday, and she would follow Fu Anyu to Linlan Villa for the team-building event.
Not wanting Fu Anyu to worry, after washing up, Ming Ying voluntarily went to her bedroom and sat on her bed.
When Fu Anyu returned from the attic, she was carrying a light cyan suitcase.
“Pack your luggage,” she said, opening the suitcase and placing it on the floor. “Toiletries and the clothes you want to wear.”
Ming Ying’s clothes had all been delivered. Du Yunxin had washed and dried them earlier, and by evening, they were neatly stored in Ming Ying’s room.
Ming Ying hurried to her room, gathered all the freshly laundered clothes in her arms, returned to the bedroom, and tossed them into the suitcase.
“Fold them, or they’ll take up too much space,” Fu Anyu said, picking up a piece of clothing to demonstrate. “Follow my lead.”
Ming Ying obediently learned how to fold clothes. At first, her folds were crumpled, and Fu Anyu had to redo them while explaining how to fold them neatly.
Back home, such tasks were handled by maids. But in Fu Anyu’s home, there were no maids, only a life assistant. Aside from cleaning, cooking, and laundry, all other chores had to be done by themselves.
Ming Ying remembered Xiao Du saying that after the incident in Fu Anyu’s youth, she had become wary of everyone. Living alone might be lonely, but as long as she set up more protective barriers, she wouldn’t have to be on guard, which made her feel more at ease.
So, even though Ming Ying was reluctant to fold her own clothes, she knew she needed to learn quickly. This way, she could understand Fu Anyu a little better.
After teaching her how to fold clothes, Fu Anyu showed her how to arrange them to maximize space. Then, she found a clean bag to pack the dried towels, followed by underwear, explaining that this way, they could be carried in the suitcase without getting dirty outside.
Ming Ying felt she had learned a lot of “life skills.”
By the time they finished packing and placed the suitcases against the table, it was already past eleven.
Lying beside Fu Anyu, Ming Ying stared at the dark ceiling for a while before mustering the courage to ask, “Fu Anyu, can I start pursuing you tomorrow and be in a relationship with you?”
This thought had long been stirring in her heart, but she had been too restrained and lacked the courage to voice it. After seeing her parents last night and learning that she had to stay in the human world with no way home, she felt as if a shackle in her heart had broken.
Just like in the dream she had not long ago, amid the ruins of the royal city, she held Fu Anyu tightly, crying and saying, “You’re all I have left, Sister.”
And now, she truly only had two family members left.
One was her third sister, who had come searching for her, and the other was her nominal sister, Fu Anyu.
Third sister was still third sister, but Ming Ying no longer wished for Fu Anyu to remain just her sister.
Between them, there could clearly be a deeper relationship.
