Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 65
Returning to her room, Ming Ying opened her tablet and pulled up the book The Ice-Queen CEO’s Fierce Love.
To be honest, the romantic development in this book wasn’t as sweet as in other novels, it even felt somewhat stiff. Comments below suggested that the author was a stickler for realism, which was why they preferred writing more “true-to-life” content.
But Ming Ying found the book’s portrayal very realistic. After all, a real “ice-queen CEO” didn’t have a 500-square-meter bed at home, nor were their closets filled with haute couture gowns. The CEO themselves certainly weren’t idle enough to frequent parties and bars, most of their time was spent working.
In fact, everything described in the book aligned perfectly with the CEO’s daily life as she had witnessed it.
Therefore, Ming Ying believed that the romantic progression in the book was also more grounded in reality, and by “grounded,” she meant that she could emulate it.
In the story, the ice-queen CEO and the delicate wife were bound by a prearranged marriage, falling in love only after tying the knot. After getting married, the delicate wife moved into the CEO’s home, spending her days reading, sketching, and binge-watching dramas, a lifestyle quite similar to Ming Ying’s own.
Ming Ying had followed the story from the first chapter to the last, witnessing the couple’s feelings evolve from obligation and indifference to mutual devotion. She knew they held each other in their hearts and remembered the delicate wife once saying, “Love must be spoken aloud.”
The delicate wife was a bold and resilient girl. Through repeatedly expressing her love, she gradually melted the “iceberg,” making the CEO aware of her desires and his own true feelings. In the end, she received the response she had always longed for.
As Ming Ying revisited the book to “study the art of love,” she pondered how to imitate the delicate wife’s actions.
But after some analysis, she realized that the wife’s success might have hinged on the marriage contract between her and the CEO, an external condition that was both rare and unattainable, something that could never exist between her and Fu Anyu.
She doubted she could even muster the courage to voice her desires to Fu Anyu.
The main reason, as she had just told Du Yunxin, was that she would eventually have to return home. If she couldn’t offer Fu Anyu lasting happiness, it was better to let the feelings remain one-sided. That way, Fu Anyu wouldn’t be held back or distracted by romance, ensuring her work and life remained unaffected.
Yet, after Du Yunxin’s persuasion, Ming Ying’s resolve had already begun to waver.
For one, this was the human world, where same-sex relationships were accepted. Neither she nor Fu Anyu faced external constraints, they were free to love as they pleased.
For another, when she imagined returning home, she doubted she could go back to living as carefreely as before.
Now, Fu Anyu had already claimed a place in her heart. Leaving her would bring nothing but the pain of longing, not to mention the regret of leaving her feelings unspoken.
Since going home meant a permanent farewell, why not give it her all before parting? Even if she were sternly rejected, at least she would have no regrets.
Half an hour later, Ming Ying convinced herself and left her room to find Du Yunxin.
“You change your mind faster than flipping a page!” Du Yunxin exclaimed in astonishment after hearing her request. “But it’s good to recognize your feelings early. Your resolve is quite admirable!”
“But I don’t know what to do.” Ming Ying lowered her fox ears. “First, I need to figure out why my sister avoids the topic of romance.”
“Actually, it’s her way of protecting herself.” Du Yunxin patted her back. “Reality is different from novels. It’s hard for a female CEO to maintain her position, and many people covet certain roles around the CEO, like, the CEO’s wife.”
Ming Ying immediately perked up her ears.
“You’re a princess, so this shouldn’t be hard to understand, right?” Du Yunxin continued. “It’s like how some demons might want to become your husband or wife. Whether you love them or not doesn’t matter to them, having that status is enough.”
Ming Ying thought of the marriage arrangements her parents had made for her and nodded in agreement.
“So, President Fu can’t open that door.” Du Yunxin nodded as well. “Xiao Chen and President Fu used to be classmates and have known each other for a while. She told me that President Fu is very particular about relationships. She despises anything impure in love, especially those who approach her for fame or fortune.”
Ming Ying instinctively began to reflect on whether her feelings for Fu Anyu were pure. After thinking for a while, she realized she still relied heavily on Fu Anyu to help her find her way home and fell silent.
“If you have any concerns, you can tell me directly.” Du Yunxin looked at her. “We can figure it out together, and besides, I have experience with same-sex relationships.”
“I might, not meet Fu Anyu’s standards for love.” Ming Ying whispered, sharing her thoughts with Du Yunxin.
“Hey, that’s not a problem at all!” Du Yunxin laughed. “Besides, finding your home was something President Fu brought up herself. Before that, weren’t you always thinking about sneaking out to search on your own? Isn’t that right?”
Ming Ying was taken aback and, upon reflection, realized it was true. When she first arrived at Fu Anyu’s home, she had spent a long time planning her escape.
“Moreover, whether you meet the standards is for President Fu to decide. I can only give you a rough reference.” Du Yunxin said. “I feel like President Fu might actually have some interest in you, but she’s good at hiding it. Unlike you, who’s so straightforward, she wouldn’t tell me or Xiao Chen, and she might not even let you notice.”
After saying all this, she felt a bit thirsty and went out to get two bottles of orange soda. She handed one to Ming Ying, opened hers, took a sip, and continued, “Just take the initiative. Feelings are hard to hide. Pay attention to President Fu’s reactions and the little details. If you’re unsure about something, tell me, and I’ll help you analyze it.”
Ming Ying thought her advice made sense and, after a moment’s thought, recounted her half-day experience at Fu Anyu’s company.
Even though she had already heard the general story from the employee slacking-off group chat, hearing it up close still left Du Yunxin deeply shocked.
She felt it was necessary to enlighten the naive and slow-witted little fox, so she opened her laptop, pulled up a chair, and had Ming Ying sit beside her to watch.
“Come, let’s analyze this point by point, starting with the key details.” Du Yunxin typed as she spoke. “First, the seating issue. That large black swivel chair you described was custom-made for President Fu. Normally, no one but her is allowed to use it, even cleaning it is something she does herself. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it President Fu’s ‘throne’.”
She highlighted the words “swivel chair” in bold red and looked at Ming Ying. “Yet, when you asked where President Fu would sit, she patted the ‘throne’ without hesitation and offered it to you?”
Ming Ying nodded, already understanding her implication.
“This shows that you hold a very important place in President Fu’s heart.” Du Yunxin nodded as well and continued typing. “Next, she gave you Journey to the West to read. You might not know this, but President Fu’s bookshelf is also off-limits. Most of those books are collector’s editions of world classics, meant for display. Once, a publishing executive visited and couldn’t take his eyes off them, she even had to wear a mask and gloves just to open the cabinet and browse.”
Ming Ying’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Really? But today, Fu Anyu just pulled the cabinet open and handed the book right to me!”
Du Yunxin didn’t elaborate, letting her reflect on it herself. After highlighting the keywords in bold red, she moved on to analyzing what happened in the cafeteria.
“There are so many subtle details! And you didn’t even notice them!” Du Yunxin sighed, feeling that the little fox was far too inexperienced. “The sweet and sour cabbage to cut the greasiness, that was actually something President Fu specifically ordered for you. As for deboning the fish, if you’d read a few more novels, you’d know that’s a classic feeding play! Your hands are healed now; you could’ve held the fish and eaten slowly yourself. Even among close friends, no one would debone it for you just because you’re eating slowly or messily, a normal friend would just wait for you to finish.”
“Think about it, isn’t this the kind of thing only parents or siblings, the closest of family, would do for you?”
Ming Ying stared blankly at the bolded text in the document and nodded at Du Yunxin. “That’s true. But I thought she was treating me like a little sister, so…”
At this point, she suddenly remembered how President Fu’s heartbeat had quickened after she hugged her before leaving the office.
“Don’t jump to conclusions about it being familial affection!” Du Yunxin shook her head repeatedly. “Besides, isn’t your goal to get closer to President Fu? Wouldn’t it be even better to consider it a budding romance right from the start?”
Ming Ying had never considered this angle. After hearing it, she froze for a few seconds before giving Du Yunxin a thumbs-up.
Once Du Yunxin finished analyzing the main points, she went into detail about Fu Anyu’s other behaviors, leaving Ming Ying almost in awe. The flickering flame of her confidence was rekindled.
“Alright, we’ve basically covered everything that happened after arriving at the company.” Du Yunxin saved the document and picked up her soda. “This morning, you also went to the hospital and the Taoist temple with President Fu, right? If anything happened along the way, you can tell me about that too.”
This reminder made Ming Ying instantly recall her bathing arrangement with Fu Anyu, and her face flushed red.
“Why the sudden blush?” Du Yunxin had been watching her expression closely and sensed there was more to the story. She set her soda aside and placed her hands back on the keyboard. “Come on, tell me what else happened.”
“Fu Anyu… on the way, she said it was very hot today and asked if I wanted to take a bath with her…” Ming Ying folded her fox ears, lowering her head and stammering as she spoke, her voice so soft Du Yunxin could barely hear. “I… I agreed at the time… but I didn’t quite understand… which way she meant…”
“You really know how to surprise me!” Du Yunxin was glad she hadn’t been drinking soda while listening to the little fox’s description. “Let me tell you, don’t worry about which way President Fu meant. Just go with the way you want the most when it’s time tonight.”
“But if I misunderstand, will Fu Anyu hate me?” Ming Ying asked cautiously.
“What are you afraid of? If President Fu asks, just act innocent…” Du Yunxin paused, then reconsidered. “No, you’re naturally clueless, no need to act. Just say you misunderstood and blame it on the novels and animations you’ve been reading lately. Even if there’s no such plot in the novels, just make it up. President Fu doesn’t have time to verify, and there’s no need to verify such things anyway.”
“What if she doesn’t ask?” Ming Ying suddenly thought of this.
Du Yunxin resisted the urge to ruffle her head and call her a little fool. She sighed, resting her forehead in her hand, and said, “Then that means she’s interested in you too!”
