Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 11
As the saying goes, “Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will never be defeated.”
Ming Ying felt that her fear of Fu Anyu stemmed not only from the disparity in their strength but also from her unfamiliarity with his temperament and preferences.
Moreover, Fu Anyu wore a perpetually cold expression, rarely speaking more than a few words, and his moods were unpredictable, making him difficult to read.
After hearing her request, Du Yunxin fell silent.
In the list of interaction guidelines Fu Anyu had sent her the previous night, the first rule was: “Do not disclose any information about your superior to Ming Ying.”
She thought for a moment and countered with a question: “Why are you so interested in Fu Anyu?”
“I…”
The question wasn’t difficult, but Ming Ying was stumped.
She wasn’t asking about Fu Anyu out of interest, it was purely to “know the enemy.”
Ming Ying stammered for a while, unable to come up with an answer, and instead asked Du Yunxin in return: “Aren’t you interested in her?”
“Not interested,” Du Yunxin shook her head decisively. “I’m just an employee. I handle trivial matters for Fu Anyu according to my contract and earn a salary to support myself.”
Though there were many terms she didn’t understand, Ming Ying grasped the general meaning and pressed further: “Then what do you think of her as a master? Is she difficult to get along with? Does she treat you harshly?”
“Fu Anyu is a very good person,” Du Yunxin replied, hoping to end the conversation by issuing a “good person card.”
Unexpectedly, Ming Ying happily took the bait: “Since she’s so good, why don’t you tell me more about her!”
Du Yunxin: “…”
For the sake of her salary, she couldn’t possibly comply. Following the contingency plan outlined in the interaction guidelines, she shifted the blame to Fu Anyu: “Fu Anyu doesn’t want me to share any information about her with you.”
Ming Ying: “…”
Why was it always Fu Anyu forbidding things!
Ming Ying instantly deflated and reluctantly asked about other matters. This time, Du Yunxin answered every question.
Though Du Yunxin was aloof, she lacked Fu Anyu’s icy, unapproachable aura and was generally amiable. Seeing that she was willing to talk, Ming Ying took the opportunity to ask about all the unfamiliar objects she had encountered over the past few days.
Du Yunxin patiently explained each one:
“A mobile phone isn’t a type of chicken. In terms you’d understand from the demon realm, it’s a communication device, but with more functions than a typical communication talisman.”
“The bag Fu Anyu carries around every day contains a laptop. The keyboard is part of it, and the crisp sound it makes when typing is normal.”
“The bottles and jars in the bathroom are toiletries, some for washing hair, some for the body, and some for laundry. It’s normal that you can’t read the labels; they’re all imported goods. So, you should wait until Fu Anyu is around before using them to avoid making a mess.”
After the explanations, Du Yunxin noticed the little fox staring blankly, having even forgotten to eat her breakfast, and couldn’t help but ask, “Did you not understand?”
Ming Ying awkwardly mumbled “Mm,” then asked quietly, “What are a laptop, a computer, and ‘imported goods’?”
Du Yunxin didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She glanced at her watch, placed the cushion back in its original spot, stood up, and said, “I’ll explain next time. I have to go to work now.”
Ming Ying obediently agreed but followed her to the door, attempting to slip out when it opened.
Unexpectedly, as Du Yunxin reached the door, she suddenly crouched down, swiftly grabbed Ming Ying’s tail, and gave it a playful rub.
Ming Ying felt her entire body go limp as if struck by lightning. A scream had just escaped her lips when Du Yunxin grabbed her by the scruff of her neck and tossed her onto the bed. Then, everything went dark as Fu Anyu’s blanket was thrown over her, the faint scent of pinewood drifting into her nose.
This was one of the contingency solutions Fu Anyu had written in the cohabitation guidelines. After wrapping up the fox, Du Yunxin went out and locked the door behind her.
Ming Ying wanted to throw off the blanket but didn’t dare use too much force, afraid her sharp claws might accidentally tear it. If Fu Anyu came back and found the blanket damaged, she would surely lock her back in the iron cage with a cold expression.
By the time she carefully pushed the blanket aside and saw the light again, Du Yunxin had long since left.
Dejected, Ming Ying returned to her little nest and finished the still-warm bacon rolls. She had intended to gather spiritual energy, but whenever she thought of Fu Anyu’s many restrictions and secrets, she couldn’t calm her mind.
Frustrated, she leaped out of her nest, fetched the remote control with her mouth, and turned on the TV, hoping to learn something about Fu Anyu’s situation.
Her efforts paid off, she actually found a program featuring Fu Anyu.
Fu Anyu sat across from a woman in blue, her expression cold as she conversed with her. Her voice was clear and stern, her gaze fixed firmly on the other woman’s eyes, making the blue-clad woman visibly nervous. Whether asking questions or responding, she was extremely polite and cautious.
Ming Ying had been angry earlier, but when she saw how weak and submissive the woman in blue appeared before Fu Anyu, her expression strained and unnatural as she spoke, her mood inexplicably improved.
So, it wasn’t just her who was afraid of the mean woman.
Ming Ying still couldn’t understand the content of their conversation, but she listened with great enjoyment.
When the scene changed, she contentedly turned off the TV and was finally able to settle her mind and gather spiritual energy.
With the help of the spirit-gathering array Fu Anyu had drawn, Ming Ying once again entered a selfless state of cultivation. The spiritual energy she refined over and over flowed toward her dantian, and after solidifying into spiritual power, it coalesced behind her.
It was a lengthy process. By the time Ming Ying finally condensed her second tail, exhaled a breath of turbid air in comfort, and opened her eyes, the curtains had been drawn, it was already night.
Fu Anyu sat upright at her desk, her fingers flying across the keyboard. Hearing the soft sound of the little fox exhaling, she stopped and looked over, immediately noticing the two tails spread out behind the little fox. A look of surprise crossed her face.
“What time is it now?” Ming Ying had just asked when her stomach let out a long, loud growl.
“1:20 a.m.,” Fu Anyu replied, leaving her seat. She picked up Ming Ying’s water bowl, poured in some fruit and oat-flavored yogurt chunks, and opened a carton of plain yogurt to mix in.
Ming Ying caught a faint whiff of fruit and milk. Unable to resist, she looked up and asked, “What is this?”
Fu Anyu stirred the yogurt and placed it in front of her. Instead of explaining, she simply said, “Try it.”
Ming Ying tentatively took a lick, and the sweet and sour flavors instantly danced on her tongue.
“Fruit cheese!” she exclaimed excitedly, lapping it up eagerly.
Cheese was difficult to make. Ming Ying remembered that the wolf tribe in the northern part of the demon realm was most skilled at making cheese. That rich, sweet, and tangy flavor was something she could never forget after just one taste. Unfortunately, her parents weren’t particularly fond of such snacks, so they rarely had merchant caravans purchase any.
Ming Ying also tasted a few fruit chunks she had never seen before. But these fruits were fresh and sweet, and when eaten with the cheese, they offered a unique and delightful flavor.
“The humans call it ‘yogurt’,” she heard Fu Anyu leisurely explain. “What you’re eating is a mixture of solidified yogurt with dried fruits and cereal.”
Ming Ying didn’t respond, focusing solely on eating. In no time, the full bowl of yogurt was emptied, and she even licked the bottom and sides of the bowl clean.
Having soothed her empty stomach, Ming Ying coiled her tails around the water bowl, licked her lips, and still felt unsatisfied.
Fu Anyu crouched in front of her, stared at her two fox tails for a few seconds, and reached out to touch the newly grown one.
Ming Ying was most afraid of having her tails rubbed and hastily backed away, immediately twisting her two tails together and dragging them behind her to prevent Fu Anyu from touching them.
“Let me check if the spiritual energy has stabilized,” Fu Anyu insisted, still trying to grab them.
“Don’t… don’t touch my tails…!” Ming Ying was so frightened that she folded her ears back. Though she said this, her body remained frozen in place, unable to move, as she watched Fu Anyu’s hand reach for her tails.
Slender fingers slipped into the gap between the two fox tails, gently parting them with a light sweep.
Ming Ying had been too scared to move earlier, but now she found herself unable to. Every time Fu Anyu’s hand rubbed her newly grown tail, she felt as if her heart were being squeezed. The tingling sensation wasn’t the issue, it was just that she felt extremely uncomfortable.
By the third rub, the fox could bear it no longer and burst into tears.
“Let go!” Ming Ying yelled at her with a sob. “If you don’t let go, I’m going to bite your hand!”
Fu Anyu stopped immediately upon hearing this and stroked the fur along her back as a form of comfort.
“With an extra tail, are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?” Fu Anyu asked.
“None of your business!” Ming Ying, still angry, instinctively retorted out of habit.
She regretted it immediately after saying it but continued to glare fiercely at Fu Anyu.
Fu Anyu, however, let out a soft laugh, suddenly scooped up the fox, and headed toward the bathroom.
“It’s late. Let’s take a bath and rest.”
Ming Ying remained silent, her gaze shifting to the pale, exposed section of Fu Anyu’s forearm peeking out from her sleeve. She was still angry enough to want to bite the “bad woman” but didn’t dare.
While soaking her paws in warm water during the bath, she suddenly remembered how Du Yunxin had dealt with her during the day, also by rubbing her tail, and the technique seemed quite similar to what the “bad woman” had just done.
“Fu Anyu!” she exclaimed angrily, using her full name. “You’re a bad example leading others astray!”
The hand wiping her body paused slightly, and Fu Anyu’s voice came from above her head. “What did you say?”
“I said you’re a bad example leading others astray!” Ming Ying raised her voice. “You taught Du Yunxin to bully me!”
“She bullied you?” Fu Anyu sounded surprised.
“She rubbed my tail!” Hearing only surprise in her voice, with no trace of guilt or any other emotion, Ming Ying grew even angrier. “You rubbed my tail too! Don’t you both know that you can’t just casually rub a demon’s tail?!”
If the “bad woman” had touched her tail accidentally or on purpose, that would be one thing, but the rubbing and pinching truly made her uncomfortable!
Fu Anyu fell silent for a moment. “I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.”
Not expecting her to apologize so quickly, Ming Ying was left speechless, the rest of her words stuck in her throat, and she even felt a bit dazed.
Was she still trapped in the dream she had during her spiritual gathering? How could the “bad woman” be so reasonable?
Taking advantage of her daze, Fu Anyu quickly dried the water from her fur. When it came to the two tails, she paused and asked Ming Ying, “Is it okay to rub the tails with a towel?”
Ming Ying snapped back to attention and answered seriously, “A towel is fine.”
While wiping her tail, Fu Anyu asked, “How many tails do you have in total?”
“I won’t tell you.” Ming Ying, afraid of revealing her identity as a nine-tailed fox, glanced at her warily and tried to change the subject. “Don’t even think about coveting my tail!”
