Wagging My Tail in the Ice Queen CEO’s Embrace - Chapter 10
Watching Fu Anyu approach with a strange-looking object in her hand, Ming Ying curiously lifted her head, about to ask what it was. In the next moment, however, Fu Anyu grabbed her head and flipped out her folded ears.
A sudden chill probed into her ear canal, startling her into a soft “Eep!” as all her fox fur bristled. Instinctively, she tried to kick Fu Anyu’s hand, but a “beep” sounded, and then she was released.
After checking the temperature reading, Fu Anyu felt the fox’s forehead again, then went to the bathroom to fetch a small damp towel. She condensed her spiritual energy into a chilling mist, and once she felt the temperature had dropped enough, she placed it on Ming Ying’s belly.
Ming Ying’s stomach was particularly sensitive. The touch of the cold towel made her shriek and bump against the wall of the dog bed, crying out, “It’s so cold! Don’t freeze me!”
“Endure it for a moment,” Fu Anyu said, grabbing the scruff of her neck and placing her back in position, softening her voice as much as possible. “This is to reduce your fever. Don’t be afraid.”
At the mention of “fever,” Ming Ying remembered the reason her cheeks had been burning and, embarrassed, buried her face in her tail again.
“I don’t have a fever…” she said weakly. “I just… had a strange dream…”
Of course, she didn’t dare say it was because she had seen Fu Anyu’s shameless attire. In her panic, she could only use the dream as an excuse.
“A dream?” Fu Anyu paused, her gaze toward the fox suddenly turning complex.
“Y-yes,” Ming Ying stammered nervously. “I dreamed… I dreamed I transformed into a human, but… but my spiritual energy wasn’t enough, and I… I couldn’t conjure any clothes…”
She truly wasn’t good at lying and couldn’t continue after that, her cheeks heating up again.
Ming Ying held her breath, waiting for Fu Anyu’s reaction. But after a moment, the other woman asked, “You can transform into a human?”
“When I have enough spiritual energy, I can transform!” Ming Ying quickly replied, then added in a small voice, “I can also conjure clothes…”
“Are you gathering spiritual energy to transform?” Fu Anyu pressed.
Ming Ying knew she couldn’t play dumb this time. After all, when Fu Anyu had entered, she had been in the middle of gathering spiritual energy and hadn’t woken up. Someone as powerful as Fu Anyu would have definitely sensed the changes in the ambient spiritual energy in the room.
So, she nodded.
“Were you also gathering spiritual energy during your ‘nap’ this morning?” Fu Anyu rubbed the fox’s head, feeling that her forehead was indeed no longer hot. After Ming Ying nodded again, she moved the dog bed and the fox aside, condensed spiritual energy at her fingertips, and began drawing an array on the floor.
Ming Ying cautiously peeked out and could roughly recognize it as a spirit-gathering array, but this one was different from the ones she was familiar with, simpler and easier to draw.
Once the array was complete, Fu Anyu placed the dog bed back in the center and said to Ming Ying, “If you want to transform into a human sooner, gathering spiritual energy here will be the fastest.”
Ming Ying knew she had no choice in the matter. The “bad woman” wouldn’t let her leave; she had to eat, drink, relieve herself, and bathe all within this small bedroom. But since Fu Anyu had proactively provided her with a spirit-gathering array, she wasn’t in such a hurry to go out anymore.
As long as she had enough spiritual energy, transforming into a human or breaking the barrier sealing the door would be trivial matters for her.
After a moment’s thought, she obediently said, “Thank you,” to Fu Anyu and closed her eyes, intending to continue gathering spiritual energy. But Fu Anyu gently shook her a couple of times and asked, “Aren’t you going to eat dinner?”
It was indeed mealtime, and dinner was soon brought in.
Ming Ying stared at the young woman who tried to leave right after setting down the meal tray and said to Fu Anyu, “When you weren’t here, I wanted to talk to her.”
She had always been someone who couldn’t stay quiet since childhood. Having no one to talk to all day and facing this cold, unpleasant woman during meals was truly suffocating.
The young woman still pursed her lips and frowned, but as soon as Fu Anyu nodded, she seemed to relax. Holding her phone, she half-crouched in front of Ming Ying and typed her name for her to see: “Du Yunxin. You can call me Xiao Du.”
“My name is Ming Ying,” Ming Ying said amiably, wagging her big tail and emphasizing, “The ‘Ying’ from ‘Yingluo’.”
“I’ll send you the detailed guidelines for interaction later,” Fu Anyu said.
Du Yunxin nodded. “Understood, President Fu.”
After the introductions, Du Yunxin left the bedroom.
Ming Ying’s meat dish for the evening was a golden, crispy fried chicken cutlet. To make it easier for her to eat, the cutlet had been cut into strips, with ketchup evenly drizzled over each piece.
Ming Ying had never seen this way of eating before and didn’t even recognize what kind of meat it was. But she quickly devoured it, getting breadcrumbs and ketchup all over her mouth. Paired with specially prepared shredded cabbage, she enjoyed it so much she didn’t want to stop.
After finishing, she noticed many crumbs had fallen on the floor. Startled, she worried that Fu Anyu might force-feed her again if she found out. Quickly, she used her spiritual energy to gather the crumbs into a ball and tossed them into the empty bowl.
While cleaning up, she stole a glance at Fu Anyu and saw that she was focused on her meal, not observing her every move, which put her at ease.
Until her hind leg injury fully healed, Ming Ying had to wait for Fu Anyu to help her clean up. Before Fu Anyu finished eating, she obediently flipped through the comparison chart.
To be honest, simplified characters were easier to write. Since she could remember, she had never enjoyed practicing calligraphy, but both her parents wrote beautifully. So, as soon as she could hold a brush, she began practicing with copybooks. Though she could write well, she never thought it was particularly important.
Ming Ying idly flipped through the pages to pass the time until Fu Anyu rang the bell for someone to clean up. She then tossed the chart aside, scurried out of her little bed, and crouched beside Fu Anyu, turning her face away as she waited quietly.
Seeing this, Fu Anyu waited until the housekeeper left before carrying her to the bathroom to wash her body and paws. Afterward, checking the time, she picked up the water bowl to give Ming Ying her anti-inflammatory medicine.
By now, Ming Ying knew how to take the medicine. Without needing Fu Anyu to pry her mouth open, she held her breath, stuck out her tongue, rolled the pill into her mouth, and quickly buried her face in the water bowl to drink.
Ming Ying no longer hoped her leg would heal quickly, she just wished she could stop taking the medicine sooner. Human medicine was truly strange: it dissolved instantly in water, tasted unbearably bitter, and yet without water, it was impossible to swallow, sticking in her throat and making it even more uncomfortable.
“You don’t have to take it tomorrow,” Fu Anyu suddenly said, noticing her discomfort.
Ming Ying, bitter and miserable, curled up on the dog bed and responded weakly.
After gathering spiritual energy all day, she felt utterly exhausted, both physically and mentally. She had only intended to rest for a moment before studying the comparison chart again, but as soon as she closed her eyes, she fell into a deep sleep and didn’t wake until daylight.
The new curtains had been replaced at some point and were now drawn to both sides, but the bedroom was empty.
Ming Ying sniffed her injured leg, the scent of medicine and bandages was fresh, meaning Fu Anyu had already changed her dressing.
She couldn’t help but think of her busy father again.
After relieving herself, she pressed the bell, planning to gather spiritual energy after breakfast and also start planning her escape.
Now, in her memory, there were only three attendants frequently ordered around by Fu Anyu: Du Yunxin, an elderly woman, and the short-haired woman “Xiao Chen” who sat in front of the iron box that night.
Among them, Du Yunxin and the elderly woman were the only attendants besides Fu Anyu who could freely enter and leave her room.
As for “Xiao Chen,” aside from the night Fu Anyu brought her over, Ming Ying hadn’t seen her since. She assumed this person was either an attendant who followed Fu Anyu on outings or simply a driver.
Ming Ying knew that old foxes were the hardest to deceive, so the elderly human woman likely wouldn’t be easy to fool either. If she wanted to leave this place, she could only find a breakthrough through Du Yunxin when Fu Anyu wasn’t around.
Du Yunxin soon came in carrying breakfast. Just as she finished setting it out, she heard Ming Ying call her by her full name.
She brought over a cushion, sat down, and asked seriously, “What can I do for you, Miss Ming?”
“I’ve just arrived in the human realm and am unfamiliar with everything here. Could you tell me about this place?” Ming Ying said, taking a big bite of a bacon roll. Chewing, she looked at Du Yunxin with expectant eyes.
Du Yunxin calmly followed her phrasing and asked, “The human realm is vast. What aspects would you like to know about, Miss Ming?”
“I want to hear…” Ming Ying thought for a moment, and for some reason, the scene from the television immediately came to mind, the one where Fu Anyu sat in the main seat, surrounded by a group of people holding large black cattail fans.
So, she said, “I want to hear about Fu Anyu. Anything about her will do.”
