Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 40.2
If Su Jing weren’t the scum, she knew him to be, would she actually want Wen Wen to be with him?
After all, she had initially approached Wen Wen only because being near her allowed her to break free from the story’s control. Wanting Wen Wen to see Su Jing’s true nature was merely because Wen Wen being with him would complicate things for her.
But now?
Given how the distance required to break free was shrinking, there might come a time without her even realizing it, when staying by Wen Wen’s side would no longer shield her from the plot’s influence.
So why should she care who Wen Wen loved?
And that earnest desire for Wen Wen to give up on Su Jing.
Strictly speaking, it had nothing to do with her. Her priority now was finding a way to completely escape the story’s control.
Snap!
The sound of fingers snapping brought Jiang Chi back to reality. Wen Wen was leaning in close, her peach-blossom eyes slightly narrowed. “What are you spacing out for?”
Jiang Chi blinked, fully regaining her focus. “Done shopping?”
“Done.” Wen Wen moved closer to whisper in her ear, “The shop owner was super nice and even gave me a discount. With the leftover money, I can buy you a milk tea.”
Her voice lifted playfully at the end.
Adorable.
The moment Jiang Chi realized what she was thinking, her heartbeat inexplicably stuttered.
Wen Wen’s tone was no different from usual, so why?
Before Jiang Chi could process it, Wen Wen was already pulling her toward a nearby milk tea shop.
At the counter, Wen Wen confidently ordered the type of milk tea she wanted, along with the preferred sweetness and ice level.
Listening to her, Jiang Chi felt a sharp pain pierce her head.
“Sis, go buy me a milk tea.”
“Why do I have to buy it for you?”
“Oh ho, did you forget my favorite milk tea flavor and now you’re too scared to get it for me?”
The other person in the scene immediately pulled her to the milk tea shop and effortlessly recited her favorite type and flavor right in front of the cashier, then turned to look at her: “You order mine.”
The muffled conversation abruptly ended there. Jiang Chi suddenly felt dizzy, accompanied by an inexplicable panic, as if her body was no longer under her control.
She barely managed to steady herself by holding onto a nearby table, but her hands abruptly lost strength. Just then, a hand reached out to support her, steadying her body. The voice was comfortingly familiar: “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
The sharp pain vanished as quickly as it came, and her blurred vision gradually cleared. Her voice was hoarse: “Sister!”
“I’m here.” Wen Wen stared at her worriedly. “Where does it hurt? Never mind, let’s just go to the hospital for a check-up.”
As she spoke, she reached for the walkie-talkie from the filming assistant. Jiang Chi stopped her with a smile. “Sis, I’m fine. Maybe I stood under the sun for too long just a sudden dizzy spell.”
Wen Wen clearly didn’t believe her. “Don’t push yourself. Your health comes first.”
Jiang Chi pressed her hand down. “Sis, I’m really okay.” To prove it, she even jumped back a few steps and bounced up and down. “Arms and legs intact, full of energy!”
“If you’re really worried about me,” Jiang Chi walked over and looped her arm around Wen Wen’s, nuzzling her head against her shoulder in a coaxing manner, “how about you take me for a check-up after this shoot?”
Wen Wen didn’t hesitate. “I’ll arrange a full-body examination for you then.”
“Great! Sis, you’re the best.” Suddenly remembering something, Jiang Chi quickly lifted her head, her expression serious. “No, no your assistants can’t be the ones arranging it. You have to personally take me.”
“Last time, you broke your promise and left me all alone, miserable, pitiful, and terrified.”
“Stop.” Wen Wen cut off her rambling. “I’ll have my assistants arrange it, but I’ll personally go with you, okay?”
Jiang Chi stuck out her pinky. “Pinky promise.”
Wen Wen pretended to hesitate, glancing around. “This is too childish.” She then walked toward the pickup counter.
Jiang Chi chased after her. “I knew it! You’re trying to weasel out again, aren’t you? I don’t care, if you stand me up this time, all your assets go to me. Come on, pinky promise!”
Without waiting for a response, she grabbed Wen Wen’s hand and hooked their pinkies together.
Wen Wen watched her with amusement, letting her fuss.
After reciting the playful vow, Jiang Chi pressed their thumbs together before finally releasing her, satisfied.
Wen Wen: “Happy now?”
Jiang Chi wagged her index finger. “Only when you actually take me to the hospital and we finish the check-up will I be truly happy.”
“Here’s your order.”
Wen Wen took the milk tea from the cashier, inserted the straw, and handed it to Jiang Chi. “Drink.”
Jiang Chi took a big sip from her hand, her eyes lighting up instantly. She pushed the cup toward Wen Wen. “Sis, it’s so good! Try it!”
Then, as if realizing something, she hastily pulled the drink back. “Wait, this is the straw I used. Let me get a new one from the cashier.”
Wen Wen stopped her, slightly rising on her tiptoes to whisper in her ear: “Didn’t I already say it? I don’t mind. I’ve said it twice this morning.”
“Or perhaps you’re the one who minds?”
The warm breath against her ear, combined with the sweltering weather and the heated atmosphere around them, made Jiang Chi feel a wave of heat spreading from within her body. It was as if she had been placed on a grill, her skin burning with warmth. Instinctively, she denied it first: “How could I?”
“Excuse me.”
Before she could finish, a deep, magnetic voice interrupted her. Both of them turned to see a college-aged boy scratching his head sheepishly as he held out his phone, its screen lit up, toward Wen Wen.
“Hi there, miss. I’ve been watching you for a while now. I was wondering, could I get your contact info?”
