Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 39.1
“I’ll go.”
Jiang Chi raised her hand, particularly eager to see what Wen Wen’s video would be like.
She took the tablet and saw that the person on the screen wasn’t Wen Wen. She wanted to swipe away immediately, but a prompt forced her to watch it through.
She had no choice but to let the video play.
As she watched the earlier videos, Jiang Chi’s heartbeat fluctuated along with the footage, but it remained relatively stable overall, no dramatic spikes or drops. In fact, her facial expressions changed more dramatically than the waveform of her heartbeat.
This outfit is nice.
Wow, that gaze has attitude.
Damn, that move is kinda cool.
Next was the fourth video.
The tablet contained six video folders, each labeled with a guest’s name. When a guest chose to watch, the staff would open the corresponding folder and hand the tablet over.
These video materials had been compiled by Glasses Girl, who knew best. The fourth video in Jiang Chi’s folder was about someone specific.
Glasses Girl knew, and so did Bangs Girl. At this moment, Bangs Girl clutched Glasses Girl’s arm tightly, holding her breath as she stared nervously at the display.
The previously fluctuating waveform plummeted to its lowest heart rate the moment the video started playing, remaining completely flat from beginning to end like stagnant water.
“Even stagnant water can ripple!” Bangs Girl exclaimed happily at the readings, shaking Glasses Girl’s arm. “From now on, if anyone dares to say Jiang Chi is Su Jing’s lapdog, I’ll fight them!”
“The last one is Wen Wen’s video, right?” she asked Glasses Girl.
“Right.”
“Honestly, Wen Wen’s video is a breath of fresh air in the Heartbeat Challenge. Who in the world uses a financial magazine interview as a heart-fluttering video?!”
“Isn’t it good?” Glasses Girl asked sincerely. “Weren’t you jumping around excitedly when you watched it?”
“Don’t make me sound like a monkey!” Bangs Girl grumbled. “I was excited because of Wen Wen’s breathtaking beauty, it had nothing to do with whether my heart raced or not. Normal people would feel nothing watching a financial interview. Sigh, it’s just that Wen Wen has so little usable footage.”
Her gaze remained fixed on the heart rate monitor’s display.
As the video played, the numbers on the screen steadily climbed, surpassing the previous peaks and continuing to rise. Suddenly, the reading jumped to an unprecedented height, 193 beats per minute.
Jiang Chi wasn’t entirely sure what kind of video she had expected from Wen Wen, but truth be told, she was a little disappointed when she saw Wen Wen in a white dress shirt, legs crossed, sitting on a black leather sofa.
The person was undeniably elegant, her demeanor serious and proper.
But inexplicably, the more she watched, the more she liked it.
Those dry, technical terms, when spoken by Wen Wen, seemed to transform into beautiful musical notes, leaping one by one into her heart, plucking at her heartstrings with each ripple.
In the video, Wen Wen remained poised, the top button of her white shirt fastened, no different from the Wen Wen she had just seen except colder, more severe, exuding an even stronger aura of restraint.
Yet it only made Jiang Chi want to peel off that layer of clothing even more.
This thought suddenly flashed through Jiang Chi’s mind, startling her. She abruptly realized that she’d had the same idea just moments ago inside the tent.
On the screen, Wen Wen appeared slightly uncomfortable as she moved her neck, her delicate brows furrowing slightly. After shifting restlessly a few more times, perhaps growing impatient, her slender, well-proportioned fingers moved to the top button. While continuing to answer questions, she leisurely undid the first button.
Jiang Chi unconsciously held her breath, her throat bobbing.
The first button came undone easily, followed by the second.
One undone button should have been enough, why was she continuing?!
The second button was quickly unfastened too. Watching that beautiful hand move downward to rest on the third button, Jiang Chi wished desperately that she could climb into the screen and stop those moving fingers.
No no no, not the third one! If she undid the third button, the view of her neckline would be unimaginable just like this morning.
The sudden memory of this morning’s scene made her heartbeat accelerate wildly, the numbers skyrocketing!
Jiang Chi glanced sideways at Wen Wen sitting beside her, and intimate moments from the past came flooding back like waves, making her pulse race even faster.
The bangs girl and glasses girl exchanged a knowing look, both wearing equally incredulous expressions.
Bangs girl: “What just happened?”
Glasses girl even forgot to push up her slipping frames: “No idea.”
Jiang Chi averted her gaze, took a deep breath, and refocused on the video. To her dismay, the Wen Wen on screen happened to glance at the camera just then, lazily lifting her eyelids to reveal those mesmerizing, alluring eyes both seductive and nonchalant.
Her throat bobbed again.
As if realizing something, the person in the video stopped moving, leaving the third button untouched as if it had all been a feint. She adjusted the collar of her shirt instead, the loosened neckline offering glimpses of what lay beneath.
After this adjustment, the woman on screen looked at the camera once more.
The frame froze.
Her throat dry and itching, Jiang Chi swallowed hard, only to find her mouth parched.
Setting down the tablet, she grabbed a water bottle and gulped down several mouthfuls.
After watching the entire video, she completely understood why fans had voted for this seemingly “proper” clip as the most heart-fluttering moment.
This was anything but proper, the woman on screen was a bona fide soul-stealing enchantress!
But the thought that others might have imagined the same things while watching made her inexplicably irritated.
She took two more gulps of water.
Finally calming down somewhat.
As she put down the water, removed her earphones, and handed the tablet back to the staff, she noticed all the other guests staring at her strangely.
“What’s wrong?”
Instinctively checking her heart rate display, her eyes widened , the entire screen was flashing red, displaying an impossible number: 200 bpm!
Could her heart really be beating this fast? Maybe there really was something wrong with it, she should get checked after this.
Turning back, she realized the other guests weren’t looking at the monitor. They were simply watching her in silence.
“What’s wrong?” she asked again. Could something major have happened while she was engrossed in watching the video?
Bai Yuetong gave her a meaningful glance with her eyes.
Following the gaze, she noticed two water bottles placed by her feet and instantly realized something. Looking toward Wen Wen’s side sure enough, there was none!
The water she had just drunk was Wen Wen’s.
Recalling carefully, when she opened the cap earlier, there hadn’t been that distinctive “pop” sound of an unopened bottle. So, Wen Wen had already drunk from it!
Another indirect kiss! Unconsciously, she licked her lips.
“Who are you putting on that horrified expression for?” Ji Mei said coldly. “Mistakenly taking it from so far away, you’re not going to tell us it wasn’t on purpose, are you?”
Coincidentally, it really wasn’t.
Could she help it if her arms were long?
She had intended to explain, but as the “victim,” Wen Wen hadn’t even spoken yet. What right did Ji Mei have to jump in and accuse her?
“Ji Mei, you’re so fierce. It’s not like I drank your water,” Jiang Chi said, picking up the bottle with only a quarter left and putting it back. Then she grabbed her own unopened bottle and handed it to Wen Wen. “I’m sorry, Sister. I didn’t mean to. Here, take my new one. I really didn’t do it on purpose.”
Her tone was full of grievance.
“You really should break the habit of casually picking up bottles to drink,” Wen Wen said, pausing slightly. Seeing the other’s expression grow even more aggrieved, she couldn’t help but curve her lips slightly. She took the bottle and, with a sidelong glance at Ji Mei, added, “Drinking mine is fine, I don’t mind. But others might. Be more careful next time.”
With that, she placed the unopened bottle back by Jiang Chi’s chair and retrieved her own, unscrewing the cap and taking a sip directly from it.
Noticing Ji Mei’s visibly darkened expression, Jiang Chi raised an eyebrow triumphantly.
