Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 26.4
Wen Wen had appeared in the living room at some point.
For some reason, Jiang Chi felt a pang of grievance. She stretched out her arms, signaling for a hug, her tone dripping with jealousy. “Sister, so many people have been asking for your contact info. You didn’t take a liking to any of them, right?”
Wen Wen sat beside her, allowing herself to be pulled into an embrace, and countered, “Oh? Are you questioning my standards? Do you think I should’ve given it to them?”
“No! Not at all! Every single one of them looks shady! You didn’t secretly give it to anyone off-camera, did you?”
“Hmm…” Wen Wen deliberately drew out her words. “Did I… or didn’t I?”
“Sister…”
Jiang Chi instantly transformed into a pitiful puppy, tilting her head up to gaze at Wen Wen with pleading eyes.
Wen Wen chuckled, deciding not to tease her any further. She lightly tapped Jiang Chi’s forehead. “Of course not. What’s going on in that little head of yours?”
The gloom on Jiang Chi’s face vanished instantly. She nuzzled her cheek against Wen Wen’s shoulder. “You promised you’d pass my scrutiny. You can’t go back on your word.”
For now, she’d take this as Jiang Chi’s possessiveness.
At the very least, she enjoyed the feeling.
Wen Wen ruffled her hair. “Fine, I’ll listen to you. Go wash up and rest, it’s getting late.”
The show had ended, and it was already ten o’clock.
Jiang Chi stayed in place, only lifting her eyes to stare at Wen Wen, her gaze sparkling. “Sister, can we sleep together again tonight?”
The memory of last night’s stolen kiss flashed through Wen Wen’s mind, and she immediately refused. “No.”
“Sister! But I really have nightmares when I sleep alone. I’m scared.”
Having clung to Wen Wen for so long, Jiang Chi might not always understand her, but she knew exactly which tactics worked best and they never failed.
Sure enough, Wen Wen quickly relented. “Fine. But you’ll sleep properly, just like last night.”
She stood up and headed back to her room.
Jiang Chi, completely oblivious to the implication in her words, excitedly called after her, “Okay!”
Just as she was about to get up and head to her own room to freshen up, her phone rang.
Seeing it was Da Yu calling, she answered.
“Hey, Jiang Jiang, Sister Lu just asked me to remind you, don’t be late for tomorrow’s ad shoot with Su Jing.”
Jiang Chi: “…”
She had completely forgotten about that.
But this was the perfect opportunity for the male and female leads to interact openly and spark more chemistry!
“I’m not going. Tell Sister Lu that for this project no, for all future projects involving Su Jing and me, Bai Yuetong will take my place. I’ll handle the arrangements with the organizers and Bai Yuetong’s team.”
Da Yu panicked. “Sweetheart, are you okay? Are you feeling unwell? Wait, were you the one pushing the company to promote Bai Yuetong too?”
Jiang Chi didn’t deny it.
Da Yu gasped. “Babe, are you sick? That’s Bai Yuetong we’re talking about your least favorite person, not just some random nobody.”
If she had known it would come to this, she should’ve been more restrained in front of others at least not made her dislike so obvious.
Jiang Chi cleared her throat. “That’s all in the past. Just do as I say.”
With that, she hung up.
Jiang Chi turned off the TV and called the person in charge of tomorrow’s advertisement shoot. Given the more favorable terms she offered, the other party readily agreed to her request.
Next, she needed to explain the situation to Bai Yuetong.
Her phone lay on the desk as Jiang Chi paced back and forth in front of it.
For some reason, she felt a little guilty.
After all, given what happened last night, Bai Yuetong must have faced consequences once she and Su Jing left.
And then there was what Su Jing had told her afterward about Bai Yuetong’s tragic background.
Just call her.
And sincerely apologize while she was at it.
Whether in the past or last night, she had been in the wrong.
The first call didn’t go through. The second rang for a long time before being answered.
“Hello, Sister Jiang Chi.”
Bai Yuetong’s gentle voice came through, and Jiang Chi unconsciously held her breath. She really had been too awful before, how could she have bullied such a sweet girl?
“Hello? Sister Jiang Chi? Is that you?”
Jiang Chi took a silent deep breath. “It’s me.”
Bai Yuetong: “Did you need something, Sister Jiang Chi?”
Jiang Chi explained the advertisement shoot to her and added at the end, “Yuetong, I’m sorry. Whether it was the past or last night, I was completely out of line. I didn’t mean to. I hope you can forgive me.”
Bai Yuetong froze, her fingers pausing mid-motion as she toyed with a cotton swab. She had been applying medicine to the bruises Bai Liang had inflicted on her the night before when Jiang Chi called. Lowering her gaze to the antiseptic in front of her, her already cold eyes darkened further. The veins on the back of her hand gripping the phone bulged, yet her voice remained soft, dripping with sweetness:
“It wasn’t all your fault, Sister Jiang Chi. I was wrong too. I shouldn’t have gone to Brother Su for help knowing he had a girlfriend.”
Jiang Chi exhaled silently. She spoke honestly, “Yuetong, I’ll be straight with you. I know Su Jing doesn’t like me. I regret it now, I shouldn’t have clung to him endlessly all these years. We’ve broken up, so from now on, don’t hold back on my account!”
“If you like him, you should tell him bravely! Don’t leave regrets in your life!”
Only belatedly did Jiang Chi realize she had turned into some kind of life coach encouraging her former romantic rival to pursue her ex-boyfriend.
Bai Yuetong’s expression stiffened. After a long pause, she finally spoke. “You broke up?”
“Yeah.” Jiang Chi suddenly realized something. “Don’t worry, it wasn’t because of you. I just don’t want to waste any more time on someone who doesn’t like me! It’s entirely between us!”
“Alright, I’ve said what I needed to. Remember to be on time for the shoot tomorrow. Good luck!”
Listening to the dial tone, Bai Yuetong’s expression instantly twisted. She flung her phone onto the bed and swept the medicine bottles off the desk. Leaning on the table with her arms, she let out a cold laugh. “Crocodile tears!”
“One ‘sorry’ and everything’s fine? Throwing some scraps my way and acting like a saint?”
“I’ll make sure you pay for everything you’ve done!”
Just as she finished speaking, the phone on the bed buzzed again. She took a deep breath, steadying herself, then went to pick it up.
The screen clearly displayed two words: “Pawn.”
Bai Yuetong stared at the screen, her gaze intense. A useless person who couldn’t even protect the one she loved. She tossed the phone back onto the bed.
Since they had already broken up, the pawn naturally became useless.
