Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 17
Jiang Chi hadn’t changed her outfit, she was still wearing that simple white shirt with loose jeans. After spending less than half an hour applying the makeup provided by the production team, the result was a look that seemed both transformed and unchanged.
She had dotted three moles in a triangular pattern on her left cheekbone, just above the arch. Her eyes, now hidden behind brown-colored contact lenses, were accentuated with an upward flick at the outer corners, further obscured by a pair of black-framed glasses completely concealing her striking, recognizable gaze.
With her hair tied into a high ponytail and wispy bangs swept to either side, she instantly shifted from the image of a composed, innocent college student to that of a bright and lively high schooler.
A crew member in the front seat turned to inform her that the flower market was just ahead, but upon seeing her, froze for a moment. Had the car not been moving the entire time, she would have sworn they had switched passengers.
Even before filming began, she had been intensely curious about Jiang Chi this so-called “she-devil” who supposedly bulldozed her way through the entertainment industry, the unprecedented, obsessive hanger-on to Su Jing. What kind of person could she really be?
Honestly, so far, it wasn’t what she had expected. She had imagined Jiang Chi as the type of haughty, spoiled young mistress, oozing princess syndrome in every gesture.
But reality proved otherwise. Yesterday, when Jiang Chi sat alone in the living room waiting for Wen Wen, she had been quiet and steady not the kind who couldn’t sit still for a second. Yet there was also an undeniable distance about her, not as approachable as her appearance might suggest. This became glaringly obvious when Ji Mei provoked her Jiang Chi had radiated an icy, intimidating aura that was downright terrifying.
Most importantly, she noticed how effortlessly Jiang Chi could switch personas. Around Wen Wen, she became an entirely different person.
Jiang Chi tilted her head and smiled playfully at the crew member who was staring at her, looking utterly charming. Just then, the car came to a stop.
The crew member snapped out of it. “We’ve arrived at the flower market.”
Jiang Chi grinned. “Got it. Thanks for your hard work.”
The car had parked some distance from the market, as the road ahead was too congested for vehicles. Even further in, near the heart of the market, the crowd was so dense it would be difficult to push through.
As soon as Jiang Chi stepped out of the car, a breeze swept past, carrying with it the mingled fragrances of countless flowers, fresh and soothing.
She had never been to such a massive flower market before. From her vantage point, it stretched endlessly, a sea of vibrant blossoms and bustling visitors weaving through the floral expanse.
She scanned the crowd but didn’t spot the familiar figure she was hoping to see.
Of course. It wouldn’t be that easy for them to run into each other.
Besides, with a market this size, there had to be multiple entrances.
Her gaze drifted across the dazzling array of flowers. In a place like this, surely it wouldn’t be too hard to collect 52 blooms without spending a single cent?
She strode into the flow of people, but the moment she entered, she became acutely aware of the curious glances directed her way.
Lowering her head slightly, she adjusted her glasses. Had she been recognized?
That couldn’t be. She had full confidence in her makeup skills.
Suddenly, a curious, sweet voice interrupted her thoughts: “Pretty sister, are you a celebrity filming a show here?”
The young girl standing before Jiang Chi looked to be around middle school age, accompanied by a few friends. She pointed meaningfully at the cameraman following behind Jiang Chi.
So it was the cameraman drawing attention, though she couldn’t just send him away.
A spark of inspiration struck, and Jiang Chi smiled: “No, he’s just a cameraman I hired today to document something special, I’m going to confess to someone I like.”
The girl’s eyes lit up: “So you’re here to buy flowers?”
Jiang Chi nodded with a smile.
The girl grew visibly excited: “Can I give you a flower then? I want to offer my blessing!” She rummaged through the flowers in her hand and picked out one with pure white petals and a golden center, handing it to Jiang Chi. “Pretty sister, do you know what this flower is?”
Jiang Chi had no expertise in flowers and asked humbly: “What is it?”
“This is Murraya paniculata,” the girl explained. “Its flower language means ‘captive of love’ and ‘brave heart,’ symbolizing persistent pursuit of love. I think it suits you perfectly and matches your confession theme today. I hope you succeed in your confession, sister brave enough to become love’s captive!”
Her voice brimmed with sincerity.
“Thank you,” Jiang Chi accepted the flower. “I’ll take your kind words to heart.”
The girl sweetly replied, “You’re welcome,” and added an encouraging “Good luck!” before leaving.
Jiang Chi inhaled the fragrance of the flower filled with blessings, its scent refreshing. She winked at the cameraman, her smug expression clearly saying: Easy come, easy go.
Amidst the dazzling array of flowers, Jiang Chi struggled through the crowd, not only searching for flowers she liked but also keeping an eye out for Wen Wen’s figure.
Wen Wen loved blue, so Jiang Chi gathered every beautiful blue flower she found in the market. After nearly touring the entire place, she had collected 51 flowers just one short of 52 but still hadn’t spotted Wen Wen.
The flower market encircled a lake, where wooden boats drifted among lotus leaves and blossoms of various colors. Finally reaching the arched bridge at the lake’s center for a better vantage point, Jiang Chi scanned the surroundings but saw no familiar face only a familiar color.
Through the hazy reflections on the water, she spotted an ice-blue lotus standing gracefully at the heart of the green lake.
She asked a passerby about the lotus lake’s ownership and learned that boarding a boat to pick a flower cost 200 yuan per trip, with only one chance per person to disembark and pluck a single lotus.
Rushing down the bridge to the lake’s owner, Jiang Chi deployed her tried-and-true plea: “Grandma, today I’m confessing to someone I like. She said if I give her 52 different flowers without spending a single penny, she’ll definitely say yes. Grandma, could you gift me one lotus, please~”
Jiang Chi blinked, gazing at the elderly woman with hopeful, pleading eyes.
Just then, a boat docked. The grandmother kindly took her hand and led her to the shore: “Go on, dear.”
Jiang Chi happily hugged her. “Thank you, Grandma!”
The grandmother chuckled. “Be careful.”
Once aboard, Jiang Chi whispered to the boatman: “Uncle, I need to pick that ice-blue lotus. Can you take me there quickly?”
She didn’t dare speak too loudly, afraid the flower might be plucked away the next second.
The boatman assured her there was no problem, and indeed, their boat was faster than the others. Swift and steady, it maneuvered past several boats blocking the way, finally bringing them near the ice-blue lotus.
Just then, another boat suddenly darted out from the side clearly aiming for the same flower.
At this distance, the other boat would undoubtedly reach it first!
In desperation, Jiang Chi called out, “Miss!”
Her voice was loud and exceptionally pleasant, drawing the attention of several young women on nearby boats.
Jiang Chi waved at them dismissively before addressing her target: “Miss, could you let me have this flower? Whether the person I like will be with me depends on whether this flower becomes mine.”
“Please?”
She put on an utterly pitiful expression.
Under the direct gaze of such a beauty, the young woman seemed slightly flustered. She withdrew her hand, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear, and smiled gently. “Of course. Good luck with your confession.”
“Thank you~”
As their boat finally drew close to the ice-blue lotus, Jiang Chi reached out and plucked it. She took a light sniff before raising her eyes just in time to spot a familiar figure by the lakeshore.
Delight flashed across Jiang Chi’s face as she waved the flower excitedly. “Sister!”
Wen Wen stood quietly by the shore, holding an empty flower basket. She wore a knee-length blue floral dress, her hair styled in two small braids adorned with tiny blossoms. The makeup she wore transformed her entirely from her usual self.
A soft breeze lifted the strands of hair framing her face as she smiled, her beauty outshining even the vibrant flowers around her.
Jiang Chi, eager to hand the flower to Wen Wen, forgot she was still on the boat and nearly stepped right into the lake. Luckily, the young woman who had yielded the flower caught her just in time.
Laughing, the woman teased, “In such a hurry is she the one you like?”
Without hesitation, Jiang Chi nodded. “I really do like her.”
With that, she turned to urge the boatman to take her back to shore.
Once on land, Jiang Chi collected the remaining 51 flowers from the staff. She eagerly pushed through the crowd to reach Wen Wen, slightly breathless as she offered the bouquet. “Sister, these are for you.”
Someone in the crowd shouted, “Say yes!” Soon, the entire flower market echoed with the unified chant: “Say yes!”
Wen Wen looked at Jiang Chi in confusion.
Jiang Chi raised a finger to her lips, signaling for silence. Before anyone could react, she grabbed Wen Wen’s hand and dashed away, calling out, “Thanks for the flowers, everyone~ We’re off to enjoy some alone time now~”
The crowd instinctively parted to let them through, the setting sun stretching their shadows long behind them.
They ran all the way to the car prepared by the production team. Jiang Chi let Wen Wen get in first, then turned to wave at the onlookers before driving off.
In the car, Wen Wen examined the flowers in her hands. “What’s all this about?”
Jiang Chi recounted every detail of how she had obtained all 52 flowers.
Wen Wen nodded in understanding. Holding up the blue flower, she asked nonchalantly, “So, is this your way of confessing?”
Before asking this question, Wen Wen had already waged an internal battle of “to ask or not to ask” three hundred times in her mind. Even so, when the words finally left her lips, she felt her heart might leap right out of her chest.
She knew that even if Jiang Chi gave an affirmative answer, its meaning wouldn’t be what she secretly hoped for.
Yet she desperately wanted to hear it.
True or false, she just wanted to hear Jiang Chi’s confession.
“No.”
The truth was, Jiang Chi couldn’t even be bothered to lie to her.
Jiang Chi explained, “I just thought saying it that way would help complete the mission faster. I wanted to see you sooner.”
When the negative answer came, Wen Wen barely registered the following words. She stared blankly at the blue flowers in her hand.
Noticing her distraction, Jiang Chi tilted his head toward her. “What’s wrong? Tired from the mission?”
Meeting those suddenly close, beautiful features, Wen Wen snapped back to reality with a slight shake of her head. “No.”
“Really? It’s so hot today maybe heatstroke?” Jiang Chi reached to check her forehead temperature, but she leaned back with a soft laugh. “I’m fine.”
Jiang Chi looked at his empty hand. “Don’t you like the flowers? I noticed you have lots of blue things, so I thought you liked blue and picked all blue flowers.”
“Oh, and the jasmine in the middle was given by a little girl. Do you know its meaning?”
Wen Wen played along with a headshake.
Jiang Chi relayed the girl’s words: “She said congratulations on me becoming your captive.”
If anything, I’m the captive, Wen Wen thought, gazing at the pure white petals amidst the blue.
“Don’t you like them?” Jiang Chi found himself inexplicably fixated on this question.
Though unspoken, the reason eluded even him.
The sting of not hearing what she longed for was inevitable, but under these circumstances, Wen Wen could only test the waters and gently guide Jiang Chi toward realization.
Suppressing the ache, Wen Wen leaned close to Jiang Chi’s ear, her breath light. “Because you gave them to me, I love them.”
She lingered on “love,” slow and deliberate, as if casting a spell.
Jiang Chi felt his ears burn inexplicably. The body that had been edging closer now shifted away as he stammered, “G-glad you like them.”
A secret smile played on Wen Wen’s lips as she closed the distance again, her voice soft and amused. “Aren’t you going to ask about my mission today?”
“What was it?” Jiang Chi turned only to freeze at the suddenly near, exquisite face before him, breath catching as he instinctively retreated.
Rather than withdrawing, Wen Wen advanced with each step he gave. “The producers made me sell flowers, 99 of them before I could get clues to your location.”
“S-so, did you finish?”
Despite the car’s cool, pleasant AC, Jiang Chi burned from head to toe, inside and out.
“Guess.”
“I think you did.” Backed against the door, Jiang Chi finally burst out, “Okay, let’s not sit so close. I, I’m kind of hot.”
His pleading tone was unmistakable.
Though she had no idea why she was begging for mercy or what she needed mercy for.
Wen Wen obediently stopped moving, tilting her head to gently rest on Jiang Chi’s shoulder. “I’ve been out in the sun all day and feel a bit dizzy. Can I lean on you for a while?”
Jiang Chi felt her heart might leap out of her chest. She stiffened, not daring to move an inch.
Sensing her tension, Wen Wen wasn’t about to let her off. She turned her head, propping her chin on Jiang Chi’s slender shoulder while gazing up at her face. “Aren’t you going to ask how I sold all my flowers?” she murmured.
The warm breath against her cheek and neck made Jiang Chi feel like her whole body was burning. It was strange, but in her mind, this distance between friends was completely normal! She couldn’t let Wen Wen make things awkward! So she didn’t pull away, just slightly turned her face to look at the girl resting on her shoulder.
Her lips accidentally brushed against Wen Wen’s nose.
Jiang Chi recoiled in panic, her head hitting the car window with a loud “thud.” Before her awakening, she would have either whined or thrown a tantrum, but now she only felt a sudden weight against her chest, Wen Wen had fallen into her arms.
Wen Wen deliberately parted her lips slightly, pressing her chin down before suddenly seeming to realize something. Blinking innocently, she pushed herself up and reached to touch Jiang Chi’s head. “Does it hurt?” she asked with concern.
That peculiar sensation on her chest had barely registered before this tender attention made Jiang Chi hesitate. Then, her ingrained dramatics suddenly surfaced her eyes instantly reddened at the corners. “Sister, it hurts.” she whimpered.
Wen Wen secretly sighed in relief. Thankfully, Jiang Chi was easily distracted. If she’d started dwelling on what happened and pressed further, Wen Wen wasn’t sure she could restrain herself.
Gently massaging Jiang Chi’s head, she soothed, “There, it doesn’t hurt now.”
Jiang Chi wrapped her arms around Wen Wen’s waist, nestling her soft cheek against her chest with a little nuzzle. “Keep rubbing a bit longer, it still hurts~”
Wen Wen raised an eyebrow, tilting Jiang Chi’s chin up with her fingers before leaning close to whisper directly into her ear, “You can act spoiled all you want, but no taking liberties.”
After that, Jiang Chi sat ramrod straight the entire ride home, quiet as a quail.
Back at the shared house, with other guests still out, Jiang Chi retreated to her room and face-planted onto the bed, pulling the covers completely over herself.
She touched her cheek where it had brushed against that softness earlier the sensation had been so nice, so comforting. Realizing what she was reminiscing about, Jiang Chi slapped her own cheeks sharply.
She was insane! Absolutely insane!
Not only had she inexplicably taken liberties without control, but now she was actually reliving it!
Yet this feeling was strangely wonderful. She wanted more.
As these thoughts swirled, Jiang Chi suddenly felt a restless heat coursing through her body. Unconsciously, her hand drifted to that softness at her chest, just as the door suddenly opened. Startled, her grip tightened involuntarily, drawing a helpless sound from her lips.
Jiang Chi instantly clapped a hand over her mouth, frozen under the covers, not daring to even breathe.
Fortunately, Wen Wen didn’t approach, only moving quietly about before soon leaving the room.
Without mercy, Jiang Chi pinched her own arm hard, then slapped her cheeks twice more, desperate to regain her senses.
But the restless heat in her body hadn’t subsided, and her slender fingers were itching to move upward. Just then, the blanket covering her was suddenly thrown off, flooding the dim space with bright light. Wen Wen had unexpectedly returned and was now standing by the bed, giving her a meaningful look.
Jiang Chi froze in place.
Wen Wen’s gaze swept over her before raising an eyebrow slightly. “What exactly are you doing?”
