Turns Out Seducing the Movie Queen Can Break the Plot - Chapter 15
Unfortunately, in those bright and clear eyes, she couldn’t detect even a hint of deception.
Only overwhelming sincerity and longing.
“Alright.” Wen Wen agreed to Jiang Chi’s request that didn’t quite sound like a request, then added, “Hand me the spicy sticks, and I’ll choose the double room on the second floor near the back too.”
The last part was addressed to Director Xu.
In that brief moment, Wen Wen had made a decision.
After spending half a day together, she wasn’t oblivious to Jiang Chi’s wavering emotions. Though she didn’t know what exactly had happened between Su Jing and Jiang Chi to lead to this situation.
But now, she no longer wanted to just play along with Jiang Chi.
Jiang Chi being willing to coax her wasn’t nearly enough.
She would use every means possible to completely win Jiang Chi over, to make Jiang Chi wholly and completely hers alone.
This time, she didn’t want to just yield meekly, she wanted to pull Jiang Chi into losing control together with her.
Even if all this turned out to be nothing more than an elaborate prank carefully orchestrated by Jiang Chi.
Hearing her words, Jiang Chi’s eyes instantly lit up. She quickly returned to Wen Wen’s side with the spicy sticks, her face brimming with excitement and joy. Since Director Xu had clearly stated earlier that no one could reveal their assigned items before the official announcement after everyone made their choices, Jiang Chi wanted to say something but couldn’t.
Infected by her smile, a hint of amusement appeared in Wen Wen’s eyes too: “So happy?”
Jiang Chi nodded vigorously: “Because you chose me, I’m happy no, I’m overjoyed!”
Wen Wen looked at her seriously: “Mm, I’m overjoyed too that you chose me.”
Those peach-blossom eyes, adorned with glimmers of light, stared at her intently so captivating and full of affection that Jiang Chi felt as if she might be drawn into them. She unconsciously swallowed and averted her gaze.
The increasingly unusual atmosphere between the two was obvious to everyone. Apart from Jin Jinyi, Su Jing, Bai Yuetong, and Ji Mei all wore distinctly troubled expressions.
Su Jing and Bai Yuetong knew the spicy sticks were Jiang Chi’s assigned item, while Ji Mei, for some reason, felt Wen Wen must have known they belonged to Jiang Chi that’s why she chose them without hesitation.
In Ji Mei’s view, if Wen Wen knew the spicy sticks were Jiang Chi’s, she shouldn’t have chosen them at all.
Watching their equally radiant faces, Ji Mei clenched her fists tightly.
She absolutely wouldn’t let someone who looked down on her steal her target.
Following the competition results, the guests took turns selecting items and then rooms. After everyone finished choosing, the staff distributed a phone to each person.
Director Xu: “These are for everyone to contact each other later. For now, you can return to your rooms to unpack and rest. The program team will make announcements over the broadcast system when needed.”
Just as Jiang Chi was about to call Wen Wen to leave together, a beautiful face suddenly leaned in close. Wen Wen smiled with bewitching charm, her perpetually affectionate eyes curving as she whispered: “Let’s go, to our little cabin that belongs only to us.”
Her heartbeat faltered for an instant, then quickly revived and raced wildly.
Catching Su Jing’s obvious gaze in her peripheral vision, Wen Wen took Jiang Chi’s wrist and stood up before she could react, leading her toward where the luggage was piled.
Jiang Chi felt like her brain had melted into cotton candy, leaving her to simply follow Wen Wen’s lead.
Strangely, she was enjoying this feeling.
But soon, someone stole her cotton candy, Su Jing squeezed up beside her, his expression tender and affectionate as he said, “Jiang Jiang, let me help you with your luggage.”
A flicker of irritation flashed in her eyes. Jiang Chi took a deep breath and forced an impeccable smile. “Thank you for your kindness, Teacher Su. You’re such a good person. But I have hands and feet, I can manage on my own. No need to trouble yourself.”
With that, she briskly walked over to the pile of luggage, pulled out hers and Wen Wen’s, hefted both for a moment, then pushed hers toward Wen Wen with a smile. “Sister, take mine. It’s lighter.”
Wen Wen glanced up at Su Jing but didn’t refuse.
Bai Yuetong watched the two of them walk upstairs together, her gaze darkening. She shot Su Jing a meaningful look.
In a secluded corner, hidden from the cameras, Bai Yuetong wore an expression of delicate concern. “Brother Su Jing, what’s going on? It feels like Jiang Chi doesn’t like you anymore.”
“If that’s really the case, then her family’s company might stop giving you resources, right? If that happens, then.”
Su Jing cut her off impatiently, though he kept his tone steady. “There’s no way she doesn’t like me. Even if she’s been clinging to Wen Wen, didn’t she still choose my item?”
“All these meaningless actions are just to get my attention.”
“Don’t worry.” Su Jing narrowed his eyes slightly, studying the seemingly fragile woman before him. “Though, now that I think about it, why do you seem more anxious about this than I am? Shouldn’t you be happy? That way, we could be together openly.”
Even as he said this, he had no intention of doing so. His company was currently preparing for a major director’s film project. If he could land the male lead, it would be a game-changer for his career.
No matter what, he had to keep Jiang Chi close, she was still a useful pawn, one he couldn’t afford to discard yet.
His words now were just to test Bai Yuetong’s sincerity. He genuinely liked her and didn’t want her to be with him just for personal gain.
Bai Yuetong gazed at him earnestly, her doe eyes brimming with tenderness. “I’m just worried about you. If Jiang Chi betrays you, it’ll definitely hurt your career. I know how much your work means to you, Brother Su Jing. I don’t want to see you upset.”
Su Jing ruffled her hair before gently pushing her away. “I get it. But don’t overthink it. Focus on the show, make sure you stand out, okay?”
Bai Yuetong nodded obediently.
Su Jing: “I’ll go first. Wait a bit before coming out.”
She nodded again, watching as he walked away. The moment his back disappeared, her gentle expression vanished, her soft gaze turning icy.
Of course she was worried. If Jiang Chi stopped liking Su Jing, then he would be nothing to her.
A sudden burst of static crackled through the speakers in the Love House, followed by Director Xu’s voice:
[“Unfortunately, none of the six of you successfully matched by choosing each other’s items.”]
[“So now we’re moving into the phone confession and date invitation segment. Guests who successfully express mutual feelings will automatically become dating partners, while those who don’t match will have their partners decided by lottery tomorrow.”]
[“The production team will send relevant notifications to everyone’s phones shortly. Please check your messages.”]
[“May everyone find mutual understanding with the person they’re interested in.”]
Jiang Chi was lying on the bed when she heard the announcement and immediately sprang up. She picked up the fountain pen on the nightstand and asked incredulously, “Sister, isn’t this yours?”
Wen Wen slightly raised an eyebrow. “Why would you think it’s mine?”
Jiang Chi answered earnestly, “Because after careful analysis, I thought it best matched your temperament.”
That was indeed what she had thought when she first pointed to the fountain pen to confirm with Wen Wen.
Wen Wen sat in the office, slightly bowing her head as she flipped through documents. Golden sunlight streamed through the window onto the spacious desk, scattering sparse reflections onto Wen Wen’s beautiful profile, the long hair cascading in front of her, and the fountain pen she occasionally twirled in her hand.
The scene was simply breathtaking to imagine.
Wen Wen pondered for a moment. “So, actually, you wanted to choose my item from the start?”
Jiang Chi nodded. “Didn’t I say that at the very beginning? I was afraid someone would take you away. Why do you think I tried so hard to win the game!”
Thinking of how Wen Wen had competed with Su Jing earlier, her voice unconsciously carried a hint of grievance.
Wen Wen’s eyes darkened slightly as she leaned in and lifted Jiang Chi’s chin. “You did so well. Does my little sister need a reward?”
Jiang Chi stiffened slightly, her eyes widening as she stammered, “W-what kind of reward?”
It was too close way too close! Wen Wen’s breath practically brushed against her face. Her mouth felt unbearably dry, and her heart was pounding at an unprecedented rate.
“What reward would you like?” Wen Wen gazed into her eyes and whispered back.
As if bewitched, Jiang Chi’s eyes were drawn to those alluring red lips parting slightly. Her throat felt scratchy, making it hard to speak.
Just then, a phone ringtone abruptly shattered the moment.
Wen Wen let her eyes linger on Jiang Chi’s face for a second before turning to find her phone.
Jiang Chi exhaled silently, finally relaxing her tense body. For a moment there, she thought she might suffocate.
Watching Wen Wen’s back as she answered the call, she inexplicably felt annoyed at whoever was calling.
Jiang Chi couldn’t hear what was being said on the other end, only Wen Wen’s occasional “Mm-hmm” responses before finally saying, “Thank you.”
Before she could even put the phone down, it rang again, forcing Wen Wen to pick up once more.
No sooner had she hung up than another call came in.
As Wen Wen finally set her phone aside, Jiang Chi propped herself up on the bed, her fair, slender legs swinging in the air. She shook her head and sighed dramatically, “Wow, turns out the heartthrob is my roommate! Sister, don’t you think if I wrote a novel based on this premise, it’d be a huge hit?”
Wen Wen smirked. “So is the heartthrob’s roommate feeling jealous or envious right now?”
Was it jealousy? Jiang Chi wasn’t sure herself.
Envy? Definitely not.
So she denied both. “Neither. Just making an observation.”
Wen Wen nodded thoughtfully. “There were quite a few calls, but none from the person I most wanted to hear from.”
Jiang Chi looked at her: “Oh, really?”
Wen Wen: “Aren’t you going to ask whose call I wanted to take?”
As if he needed to ask, it must have been Su Jing’s.
Before Jiang Chi could respond, another phone rang.
But this time, it wasn’t Wen Wen’s, it was Jiang Chi’s.
Jiang Chi picked up the phone and answered politely yet distantly: “Hello.”
“Jiang Jiang.”
Su Jing’s voice came through the other end, and Jiang Chi nearly threw her phone away in disgust. But she restrained herself, maintaining her polite tone: “Do you always call people so intimately?”
Ugh, stop making her sick! She didn’t want any part of her name coming out of Su Jing’s mouth!
Ignoring her sarcasm, Su Jing went straight to the point: “Jiang Jiang, go on a date with me tomorrow. I want to get to know you better.”
How touching. How sweet.
Each call was limited to thirty seconds. When Jiang Chi didn’t respond, Su Jing pressed further: “Jiang Jiang, you’ll call me back later, right?”
Jiang Chi deflected with a laugh: “You know, I think what you said to me earlier was spot-on. I shouldn’t be so absolute, it might hurt others who want to ask me out. So I can’t give you a definite answer right now.”
Silence lingered for a moment before Su Jing broke it: “Jiang Jiang, I know your favorite snack is spicy strips. I know that pack was yours. It’s a shame. I’ll wait for your call.”
The call automatically ended when the time ran out. Jiang Chi glanced at Wen Wen, inexplicably guilty. Though Wen Wen’s expression remained unchanged, she could feel the displeasure radiating from her.
Of course, she’d be upset the person she most wanted to hear from had called her rival instead.
“Jiejie!”
Before she could finish, Jiang Chi’s phone dinged with a notification.
A reminder that it was her turn to make an invitation call.
“Jiejie, um!” Jiang Chi pointed at the door. “I’ll go make a call outside.”
With that, she quickly got up and left.
Wen Wen watched her retreating figure, her slender fingers digging sharply into the bedsheets.
