- Chapter 6 - "Do We Want to Be Friends? The Little Skirt Has Arrived"
A night of dreamless sleep passed. Lin Qing’an groggily turned off his working alarm clock, taking a long while just to pry his eyes open.
So sleepy.
Struggling to get out of bed, Lin Qing’an trudged lifelessly toward the bathroom, tidied himself up, and headed toward the school.
Early morning classes, oh early morning classes what kind of deep grudge or hatred is this!
Who was the one who promised that if you work hard for three years in high school, college would be relaxing?
Whoever said that phrase, come out and take a beating!
Passing by a breakfast shop, Lin Qing’an bought two steamed buns and a cup of soy milk, strolling leisurely along the campus path.
Ding-dong.
His phone rang it was a message from Xie Tingchuan.
Xie Tingchuan: “Baby, good morning. Have you eaten breakfast yet?”
Lin Qing’an looked at the remaining single meat bun and half cup of soy milk in his hand, casually snapped a photo, and sent it back to Xie Tingchuan.
Xiao Qinggan: “Eating right now, bought it at the school gate. The taste isn’t bad. Ah-Chuan, remember to eat too.”
Xie Tingchuan: “I’ve eaten. I’m currently on my way to the large lecture hall.”
Head bowed as he typed, Xie Tingchuan wore an unconscious smile on his face. Anyone who saw him would immediately guess he was head over heels in love.
“Hey, my bun!” Walking leisurely, Lin Qing’an was suddenly bumped from the rear side. His hand jerked, and that half-eaten meat bun tumbled right onto the ground.
Looking regretfully at the bun, Lin Qing’an glared irritably at the person who had bumped into him. “Don’t you look where you’re going when you walk?”
The moment the words left his mouth, Lin Qing’an realized that the frowning person standing in front of him looked somewhat familiar, and his aggressive momentum instantly fizzled out.
“It’s you? We met at the police station yesterday and made statements together.”
“I remember. Sorry about just now.” Still frowning, Xie Tingchuan spoke words of apology, yet his deadpan expression failed to convey an ounce of remorse.
“Forget it, I’m pretty much full anyway.”
Bending down to pick up the bun, Lin Qing’an tossed it casually into a roadside trash can before speaking to Xie Tingchuan.
“Right, what’s your name? Let’s be friends, buddy.”
“I’ll pay you back for the bun.” Pulling out his phone, Xie Tingchuan prepared to scan and transfer the money.
Lin Qing’an hurriedly waved his hand in refusal. “No need, it’s not worth much.”
“Okay.” With that, Xie Tingchuan turned and walked straight ahead, preparing to leave.
“This guy…” Lin Qing’an stood frozen for a second, staring at his cold, eccentric retreating back. He rejected him just like that?
“This guy is too cool and too interesting!”
They had met three times in two days. The bar they drank at last night happened to be his shop; out of all the bars in the city, he hadn’t gone to any others, only to his shop; and out of all the people he could have bumped into, he had bumped into him!
Gosh, what an incredible coincidence!
Chasing after Xie Tingchuan in two or three strides, Lin Qing’an said, “Buddy, don’t walk so fast. I actually quite like you. Let’s be friends. Look how fated we are this is already our third time meeting in just two days.”
Chabbering endlessly by his ear, an impatient Xie Tingchuan halted in his tracks and shot him a sideways glance.
“Classmate, please stay away from me.”
Xie Tingchuan held a rather poor impression of Lin Qing’an, still lingering on the idea that he was greedy for money. Lin Qing’an, however, was completely oblivious to this.
“You really don’t want to make friends?” Lin Qing’an scratched his head awkwardly. The newly trimmed buzz cut felt quite comfortable to stroke; it was a sudden impulse he’d had this morning, shaving it himself to save a trip to the salon and avoid paying several hundred bucks just for a minor trim.
It was just a bit too short at a quick glance, people might mistake him for a Buddhist monk.
And that was precisely what Xie Tingchuan had assumed. The moment he laid eyes on him, Xie Tingchuan had muttered a silent critique of the guy’s aesthetics, thinking it was absurd for someone with such delicate facial features to brutalize his own hairstyle like that.
Looking Lin Qing’an up and down a few times, Xie Tingchuan frowned and asked, “You want to be friends with me? Why?”
Xie Tingchuan had encountered far too many people wanting to befriend him purely for financial gain, and judging by how this fellow had tried to extort compensation right in front of the police yesterday, he figured this was more of the same.
“Do you need a reason to make friends?” Lin Qing’an didn’t quite understand. “If you want to, you make them.”
“You’ve got an incoming call, you’ve got an incoming call…” At that moment, Xie Tingchuan’s phone rang. Dropping a hasty “Whatever,” he strode away in a large stride.
Left standing in place, Lin Qing’an confusedly sipped his soy milk.
“What is that ‘whatever’ supposed to mean?”
With the day’s classes concluded, Lin Qing’an turned down his two friends’ dinner invitations, took a taxi to a Cainiao Post Station on the other side of town, collected his express delivery package, and hailed another taxi back home.
This round trip consumed an hour and a half and cost two hundred yuan in fares.
Lin Qing’an felt like he was baking like a pug dog, wishing he could keep his tongue hanging out just to vent the heat.
Standing directly in the path of the air conditioner’s blower, the chilly draft made him shiver involuntarily.
Emerging from the bathroom, Lin Qing’an sat cross-legged on the carpet, staring at the delivery box in front of him. He picked up the scissors, put them back down, and remained thoroughly torn.
He really didn’t want to look at the skirt he was about to put on his own body!
Ding-dong. His phone suddenly chimed.
Lin Qing’an merely glanced at it before putting the phone back down—it was that bastard Xie Tingchuan, who must have seen the package marked as signed and started messaging him.
Chances were he wanted to urge him to open the package so they could video chat while wearing the skirt.
Who doesn’t like a little skirt? But it depends entirely on who is wearing it!
Lin Qing’an liked looking at pretty girls in skirts, but Lin Qing’an certainly didn’t like wearing them himself. What kind of nonsense was a grown man wearing a skirt?!
Even if no one else was going to know.
Clearly, Xie Tingchuan wasn’t someone who gave up easily.
Ding-dong.
Xie Tingchuan: “Baby, did you get the package?”
Ding-dong.
Xie Tingchuan: “Are you busy?”
A few minutes later, the chime rang out once more.
Ding-dong.
Xie Tingchuan: “Baby, answer me if you see this.”
Ding-dong.
Xie Tingchuan: “Don’t pretend you didn’t see it.”
Ding-dong.
Ding-dong.
Gazing at his constantly pinging phone, Lin Qing’an muttered a silent complaint, “Why is Xie Tingchuan so persistent? I’ve been pretending not to see, yet he keeps spamming messages…”
Complaints aside, the messages still demanded to be read and answered.
Looking at the texts sent by the other party, the first half was normal enough just nagging him to reply—but as for the latter part… wasn’t this a bit too, too explicit?
One message was more vulgar than the last; the guy even dropped curse words!
Were book protagonists really like this? Lin Qing’an once again doubted his own memories. Even if most of the plot details eluded him, hadn’t the male protagonist Xie Tingchuan always occupied the moral high ground?
How did he turn into such a crude, lewd, and aggressive person the moment he dealt with him?
Lin Qing’an curled his lips in resignation, pecking out a reply one keystroke at a time.
Xiao Qinggan: “Brother, I was taking a shower just now and only just saw the message. Sorry to keep you waiting.”
Xiao Qinggan: “The package has arrived, but I haven’t opened it yet. Do you want me to record a video for you, Brother?”
The moment the message went out, Xie Tingchuan sent a reply—or more accurately, a video call invitation.
By the time Lin Qing’an fumbled frantically to put on his wig and lace choker, the video call had already auto-disconnected.
Taking a deep breath, Lin Qing’an proactively initiated a call back to Xie Tingchuan.
The moment the ringtone sounded, it was answered on the first ring.
A chuckle rumbled through the speaker. Lin Qing’an stared at the bare-chested torso displayed in the video feed for a few seconds. Those pectoral muscles, those abdominal muscles, from the rolling Adam’s apple down to the waist and abdomen every single inch radiated raw male hormones.
That body looked fantastic! Lin Qing’an instinctively reached down to touch his own flat stomach, which only possessed a thin layer of muscle. No matter how he trained, it remained just a thin layer, so he had given up on it long ago.
So envious, he would love to test out how it felt.
“This is the first time baby has initiated a video call with me.”
Xie Tingchuan’s voice pulled Lin Qing’an back from his ab-touching fantasy. He touched his nose awkwardly, gazing at that unmasked display of muscle.
“Let’s open the package now. Hopefully the size Ah-Chuan bought is one I can wear.”
Lin Qing’an smiled outwardly while internally offering frantic prayers: I hope it’s too small, I hope it’s too small!
The package was unsealed to reveal the skirt, exquisitely packaged alongside a greeting card from the boutique.
A beautiful skirt for a beautiful you, wishing you happiness every day.
“Baby, I want to see you wear it. Your skin is fair, you’ll definitely look gorgeous in it. Put it on for me to see.”
Xie Tingchuan’s deep voice rasped with hoarseness, sending a sudden flush of heat straight to Lin Qing’an’s earlobes. By the time he snapped back to his senses, the little skirt was already clutched firmly in his hands.
