Chapter 13: The Delivery Livestream
Wu Xiao hadn’t expected the purchasing process to be so rigorous. First, he had to register, providing his address, phone number, and name.
When the car finally reached the payment screen, the original 100,000-yuan price tag dropped to 80,000 yuan through the automatic discount. It also prompted him that he was eligible for ten random lucky draws. However, the draws weren’t his priority; the nerve-wracking part was binding his bank card to the “Jing-Pay” mini-program.
The process was complex, every step challenging his nerves. He felt like he was mere seconds away from being scammed out of 80,000 yuan. Finally, after ten minutes of intense focus, he gritted his teeth and clicked [Confirm Purchase].
Payment Successful.
A lucky draw screen popped up. He pressed the button, and icons of various goods flashed rapidly. The prizes were so abundant he felt as though—besides fresh meat and vegetables—he wouldn’t need to buy a single thing until next year. Daily necessities, kitchenware, rice, oil, and even two outfits for every season were included.
Just as he finished his draw, he heard the two men who had been chatting nearby let out a loud, “Holy crap!”
“Someone posted on the forum! That car was actually bought! Who has the guts to spend 80,000 yuan on a car through a random app?!”
The other man paused, his tone suddenly laced with envy. “Actually, I’ve wanted a car for a long time. I just didn’t have the courage to buy it on an app. I’m actually kind of jealous of that guy.”
Hearing that envy, Wu Xiao’s lingering anxiety was suddenly replaced by a surge of satisfaction. While he was still worried about a potential scam, he was now filled with anticipation—the hope that he really had just saved 40,000 yuan on his dream car.
…
The Phone Call
Back at the Jing-Selection office, a cheer erupted. “It’s gone! President Sang, someone actually bought the car!”
It had sold much faster than the staff expected. They assumed that since 80,000 yuan was a huge sum for an average family, people would hesitate until the next day.
Sang Jing stood up. “Zuo Wei, extract the customer’s phone number from the backend immediately. It’s time to get to work.”
While Zuo Wei fetched the data, Sang Jing turned to the PR Manager. “Have you finalized the agreements with the livestreaming platforms and the media outlets?”
“Everything is ready,” the manager replied.
Initially, when Sang Jing suggested subsidizing one car per day, the staff thought she was crazy. But Sang Jing had explained her logic: spending 50,000 yuan a day on a car subsidy was a pittance compared to the cost of a nationwide advertising blitz. By livestreaming the customer taking delivery of the car every day for seven days, they would build a level of consumer trust that money couldn’t buy.
Sang Jing dialed Wu Xiao’s number.
“Mr. Wu, hello. I am Sang Jing, Vice President of Jing-Selection. I see you’ve just purchased a car for 80,000 yuan. We’d like to schedule a time for you to pick it up.”
Hearing the calm, professional voice, Wu Xiao’s heart finally settled. “That’s wonderful! I was just wondering how the delivery worked. Is tomorrow okay? I can make time tomorrow!”
“Perfect,” Sang Jing said. “However, we will be inviting the media to livestream the delivery process. I hope you don’t mind.”
Wu Xiao didn’t mind at all. After being called a “greedy fool” on the forums, he wanted the whole world to see that he wasn’t a victim—he was a genius.
…
The Party Crasher
After the call, Sang Jing left the office with her assistant and driver.
“President Sang, should we bring a gift?” Zuo Wei asked as they headed toward the Wu family banquet. “It is Miss Wu’s birthday, after all.”
“No need,” Sang Jing said, scrolling through her phone. “I’m just there to pick up Wen Qin and let those second-generation socialites see our app in action.”
She noticed Zuo Wei’s curious look and took a moment to mentor her. “Zuo Wei, we aren’t going to celebrate a birthday or even push our app to users. We are going there to make sure the heads of these wealthy families see us. I need to represent the company so that one day, their businesses will become our partners. Most of our current partners are companies in crisis; to get high-quality partners, I need to stay on their radar.”
Zuo Wei stared at Sang Jing with stars in her eyes. From this day forward, Sang Jing was her idol.
At the banquet, the conversation had shifted from the birthday girl to the “ridiculous” new app.
Wu Ling-shan, the birthday girl, was lecturing Wen Qin. “You actually signed a contract with Sang Jing? You’ve been scammed! Your brand’s value is going to tank, and that perfume is definitely a fake. Fifty bottles of a global limit of a hundred? Impossible.”
An Siyuan sighed. “The worst part is if she takes the money and doesn’t ship the goods. That would be illegal fundraising and fraud.”
Gasps rippled through the room. Suddenly, the doors opened.
Sang Jing walked in. In a room full of women in elaborate gowns and heavy makeup, Sang Jing’s light makeup and simple confidence made her the most radiant person there. She walked with a refined, executive air. While the other socialites waited for the world to be given to them, Sang Jing looked like the person who would conquer it.
She walked straight to Wen Qin. “Didn’t you buy our perfume? I was passing by after work, so I brought it to you personally to save you the wait for the courier.”
She produced the perfume. Every eye in the room locked onto it.
“It must be a fake!” a girl with a grudge against Sang Jing blurted out. “Even if it’s real, does a bottle of perfume make up for how you’ve ruined Wen Qin’s company?”
Sang Jing looked at her with feigned confusion. “Ruined? As of the time I walked into this building, we’ve already hit 1 million yuan in sales for Wen Qin’s brand. By the end of tomorrow’s event, I expect it to hit 5 million. Is that what you call ruining her?”
She then paused, realization dawning on her face. “Ah, I see. To all of you, 5 million yuan probably isn’t a big order. But remember, this is just the warm-up week. The real shopping festival is in seven days. For tonight, we only listed 5 million worth of inventory for her brand anyway.”
